A similar picture on the by-election results this afternoon to that seen this morning, with UKIP showing strong gains whilst the mainstream parties continue to lose votes.

The results from the Scottish Borders haven’t been seen yet, but it’s understood to be a Conservative hold.

Meanwhile the stellar result is that UKIP have won a seat on Haverhill Town Council with an outstanding 43.4% of the vote, a full 14 points ahead of the Conservatives. Congratuations to Councillor Barry Robbins who picked up 374 votes. Special kudos for beating Independent Candidate Frankie Boyle into fourth place – although presumably not that Frankie Boyle as he only polled 20 votes.

UPDATE – The results are now in from the Scottish Borders UA Council – and show an 18% rise for the Conservatives. This is way out of line with anything seen elsewhere, so presumably local factors are at play. However, we again see UKIP trailing in an area where the SNP is at work, which is certainly a trend that needs understanding and addressing by the party.
