Conservative Party
There’s a coup planned in the government reports the Mail.
Boris Johnson is being urged to anoint David Davis as ‘interim’ Prime Minister as part of a Brexiteer putsch to oust Theresa May as early as October, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.
The burka row which has engulfed the party in the wake of Mr Johnson’s incendiary remarks about Islamic dress, has emboldened anti-May plotters, who think it could help trigger a leadership contest when MPs return to the Commons next month.
Senior allies of Mr Davis have told this newspaper a contest would be a ‘disaster’ for the country, so the party should agree to make the former Brexit secretary a caretaker leader until after the UK leaves the EU.
They have privately urged Mr Johnson to agree to the plan and postpone his bid for the leadership until Mr Davis steps down. The latest bout of Tory leadership plotting came as
Ukip’s former bankroller Arron Banks announced plans to flood the Tory Party with supporters of Mr Johnson as part of a Donald Trump-style campaign to make him Prime Minister;Mr Johnson’s allies turned their fire on party chairman Brandon Lewis over the probe into the burka comments, accusing him of covering up ‘more serious’ allegations against a pro-Remain MP;
Plans were drawn up for a series of rallies to be held across the country for leading Brexiteer Tories to set out the case for a hard Brexit;
And former UKIP donor Banks is involved, reports the Mail.
A dramatic attempt to ‘fix’ the next Tory leadership contest for Boris Johnson is to be launched by Arron Banks, the Ukip donor who campaigned for Brexit during the 2016 EU referendum.
Mr Banks is planning to use an advertising blitz to urge Brexiteers, including 90,000 Leave.eu supporters still on his email list, to join the Tory Party and vote for Mr Johnson in the next leadership election.
The move is similar to the Momentum campaign which flooded the Labour Party with Jeremy Corbyn supporters to secure his election.
But it is Mr Banks’s links to Donald Trump’s advisers which will most alarm No 10.
Mr Banks travelled with former Ukip leader Nigel Farage to meet Trump shortly after he won the US election.
Mr Banks, whose business interests and links to Russia have come under close scrutiny, has admitted handing the Russian ambassador to the UK a telephone number for Trump’s team.
EU
But Europeans are not happy either, reports the Express.
FRANCE is on collision course with the European Commission after it excluded French ports as part of its plans for a new shipping route linking Ireland with the bloc post-Brexit.
French Transport Minister Elisabeth Borne blasted the move, which could prevent France from accessing billions of euros in an EU grant, as “not acceptable”.
In a strongly-worded letter to European Commission transport bosses, she said France and Ireland’s “important trade channels” had not been taken “into account”.
Ms Borne wrote a letter to the EU’s transport commissioner, dated August 10, saying: “France and Ireland maintain important trade channels, both overland via Britain and via direct maritime routes.
“The geographical proximity between Ireland and France creates an obvious connection to the single market.
Breitbart says there’s agreement on immigration.
The leaders of Germany and Spain on Saturday promoted a shared approach to immigration into the European Union amid growing populist opposition in other EU nations to taking in more asylum-seekers.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, meeting at a country estate in the southern region of Andalusia, advocated a “fair distribution” of migrants for EU nations. They said they will share their common vision at an EU summit next month in Austria.
“No country can be exempt from this challenge,” Merkel said at a press conference after the meeting. “The racist tendencies we are seeing, regrettably, in all member countries is something we have to fight against.”
Spain has become the primary destination for migrants attempting to reach Europe by sea in recent months. While largely welcoming, Sanchez’s Socialist government is trying to stem the flow of migrants across the Mediterranean by holding talks with Morocco, one of the main departure points now used by traffickers to cross the sea.
As part of that effort, Sanchez asked Merkel for greater financial cooperation from the EU to assist Morocco and Tunisia with migrant control programs.
Fox News also has the story.

Burka row
The former foreign secretary is still making the headlines, The Telegraph says:
Theresa May is facing a furious backlash from grassroots Conservative members and donors over the party’s “malevolent” and “discourteous” decision to investigate Boris Johnson over his burka comments.
One local association president said Mrs May was “at best an embarrassment, and at worst a humiliation for our great party and country”, while major donors said it was an “argument over relatively nothing”.
Number 10 was forced to deny reports of a rift with party chairman Brandon Lewis, after he said on Tuesday Mr Johnson should apologise for saying women wearing burkas looked like robbers and letter boxes.
The Prime Minister was given no notice ahead of Mr Lewis’s criticism of Mr Johnson.
The Sun reports backing by the populace.
VOTERS have backed Boris Johnson over his burka jibe – as Tory MPs told the Prime Minister to expect “World War Three” if he’s suspended from the party.
Furious MPs and grassroots Tories turned on Theresa May and demanded she call off an inquiry into the former foreign secretary after he likened women wearing the burka to ‘bank robbers’ and ‘letterboxes’.
A ComRes poll for the Sunday Express found the majority of Britons don’t think Mr Johnson should be punished for the remarks made in a newspaper column.
It found 60 per cent of people believe free speech is “under threat.”
Mr Johnson is yet to respond to the furore sparked by the article, where he branded the face-covering veils “ridiculous” and “oppressive”.
And Sky News speaks of ‘open warfare’.
There will be “open warfare” in the Conservative Party if Boris Johnson is severely disciplined over his burka comments, an MP has said.
Tory MP Andrew Bridgen, a supporter of Mr Johnson, issued the warning in the event the former foreign secretary is suspended in such a way that he cannot not take part in a future leadership contest.
But Mr Bridgen told the Sunday Express: “If Boris is suspended it will be open warfare in the Conservative Party.
“If Theresa May dares engineer a leadership contest while Boris is suspended it will be World War Three.”
His comments came as the Tories risked remaining engulfed in a row that is refusing to go away, despite the public appearing to reject any attempt to censure the Uxbridge MP.
A ComRes survey for the Sunday Express found 53% opposed to punishing Mr Johnson, against 40% who said he should be disciplined.
The poll also found that 60% of those who responded believed rights to free speech were being weakened, compared to just 5% who said they were stronger.
The Times brings in Trump’s adviser.
The cabinet is at war over Boris Johnson’s burqa furore as President Donald Trump’s former strategist, Steve Bannon, warns the former foreign secretary not to “bow at the altar of political correctness” by apologising.
The Sunday Times has spoken to four cabinet ministers who back Johnson and who criticised their own party leadership for its “cack-handed” investigation into his comments.
The prime minister put her own reputation on the line by demanding Johnson defuse the row by apologising for claiming women wearing the burqa looked like “letter boxes” or “bank robbers”.
Last night the row escalated as Johnson flew back home from a holiday in Italy amid claims that more backbenchers were preparing to submit letters to the Commons 1922 committee.
The Guardian reports support for the former foreign secretary.
Conservative MPs’ support for Boris Johnson over his comments comparing Muslim women in burqas to bank robbers has “shone a light on the underbelly of Islamophobia” within the party, the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) has said.
Harun Rashid Khan, MCB’s secretary general, said the former foreign secretary’s comments, which have attracted criticism and divided opinion since appearing in the Daily Telegraph on Monday, had had a “real and worrying” impact on the Muslim community.
He also said the MCB received Islamophobic hate mail off the back of the furore, some describing Muslims as “barbarians”.
Khan’s comments came as fellow Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg said the party’s investigation into Johnson had been set up as a “show trial” in an attempt to derail any long-held ambitions the former cabinet minister may have for Tory party leadership.
In a statement, Khan said: “The impact of Boris Johnson’s comments are real and worrying and indicate the importance of a full, transparent and independent investigation into his conduct, in particular given the lack of action in previous cases of Islamophobia in the party.
Jacob Rees-Mogg has added his support in the Express.
JACOB REES-MOGG has defended Boris Johnson over his burka comments saying he was not “mocking” women but clearly using “colourful” language.
The prominent Tory backbencher leapt to the defence of former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson as he returned from his holiday in Italy this afternoon.
Mr Johnson, who has so far refused to apologise, could face disciplinary action over his controversial comments where he compared Muslim women in burkas to bank robbers.
But Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg said his colleague was “pointing out that the burka is not an elegant form of dress”.
He told Sky News: “He was advocating for the liberal and relatively unpopular view there shouldn’t be any ban on any clothing.
And Westmonster also reports the Mogg.
Jacob Rees-Mogg has defended Boris Johnson’s criticism of the burka again, insisting that he agrees with his stance that it shouldn’t be banned whilst disliking it.
Writing in The Telegraph, Mogg points out that: “It is hard to see why the offence today is so deep when the purpose of a burka, according to some understandings of the Koran, is to prevent a woman being seen by men outside her immediate family. She is not to ‘display her beauty’ beyond her close relations.
“This makes the howls of outrage suspect and the motivations dubious. Why would senior Conservatives want to attack so popular a figure for saying something that had been said before, and which they had not objected to?”
And touching on future leadership prospects directly, Mogg asks: “Could it be that there is a nervousness that a once and probably future leadership contender is becoming too popular and needs to be stopped?”
Mogg is right of course: the attempted hatchet job on Boris by the Tory Remain establishment is out of a nervousness to try and stop him.
Britain needs a Brexiteer PM – and the current regime know that Boris could be the man.
Labour Party
The party’s problems have not gone away. The Mail says:
Jeremy Corbyn was embroiled in a fresh anti-Semitism row last night after it was revealed that he gave a wedding speech for an alleged Holocaust ‘denier’.
The Labour leader, who has been battling to contain the furore which has been raging in his party for weeks, paid tribute to Husam Zomlot, who was at the centre of a furious row when he appeared to suggest that Israel had ‘fabricated’ the Holocaust.
Mr Zomlot, 44, told the BBC in 2014: ‘They [Israel] are fabricating all these stories about beheading journalists in Iraq… as if they are fabricating also the story of the Holocaust, that it happened in Europe.’
It triggered an outcry among Jewish groups, although Mr Zomlot strongly denied that he meant that details of the Holocaust had been fabricated. He said his words were meant to convey that Israel was using both the Holocaust and the murder of Western journalists by Islamic Stateto ‘justify its murder of Palestine’.
The Telegraph reports;
Jeremy Corbyn faces being bounced into accepting the international definition of anti-Semitism by Labour party’s biggest union backers, The Telegraph can reveal.
Unite, Unison and the GMB – which donate millions of pounds to the party every year – are understood to have been paying for lawyers to examine the legal definition of anti-Semitism and reassure the party over adopting it.
A stumbling block has been the requirement that Labour party members will in future not be allowed to describe Israel as a “racist endeavour”, if its policies discriminate against Palestinians.
Labour has been dogged by fury over its failure to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition including all 11 examples of anti-Semitism.
Project Fear
Another scare story is in the Times.
Supermarket giants have warned the Treasury that a no-deal Brexit would force up the price of the average weekly food basket by as much as 12%.
Senior executives from some of the big four supermarkets made the alarming prediction in briefings to the Treasury on the impact on food prices of a no-deal Brexit.
The biggest tariffs on imports from the EU could include cheese, up by 44%, beef, up by 40%, and chicken, up 22%.
The warnings, which the Treasury is taking seriously, come as it is revealed that Britain’s monetary chiefs have ploughed the country’s foreign currency reserves into euros since the Brexit referendum, in what some are claiming is a vote of confidence in the stability of the single currency.
NHS
The Mail has a survey of GP practices.
NHS England has released the details of the best and worst GP surgeries in the country according to a patient survey.
The findings come from the GP Patient Survey, an ongoing poll that involves more than a million people a year.
Participants are asked questions about the ease of getting an appointment, how easy it was to get hold of a healthcare professional on the phone, awareness of online services, attitude of reception staff and ratings of care.
It also looks at opening times, trust in doctors, and overall experience among other factors.More than 7,000 surgeries across England were rated for the survey.
Education
Exams are to be dumbed down says the Times.
Exam results are to be downgraded as a measure of school quality as the chief inspector moves to stamp out a culture of cramming children for tests.
Days before 700,000 teenagers pick up their results in the new tougher GCSEs and A-levels, The Sunday Times has been leaked details of a new inspection framework to be brought in next year.
Exam results, or “outcomes”, by which schools have long been judged, will be replaced with a measure called “quality of education”.
Rail travel
There is still trouble on the rail network, says ITV News.
Cancellations to Northern Rail services for a third Sunday running have been described as “chaotic and unacceptable” in a letter to the rail operator from the deputy mayor of Greater Manchester.
Baroness Beverley Hughes has written to managing director of Northern David Brown after the company announced a third successive week of Sunday service cancellations.
On Friday, the operator said it expected 80 of the scheduled 1,500 train services on Sunday not to run.
It said ongoing engineering projects in Liverpool, Greater Manchester and Lancashire had caused “severe difficulties around the short-notice scheduling” of train crews.
In the letter, Baroness Hughes said: “As you are no doubt aware the Mayor has had to write to you, the Secretary of State for Transport and Transport for the North on a number of occasions over the past several months, and has also written to the Prime Minister, regarding what has been a chaotic and unacceptable situation.
Cocaine
The drugs problem is getting worse, says the Star.
COCAINE worth £150million was seized at UK borders in the first four months of this year.
From January to April, 1,366kg of the drug was found at ports and airports in 99 seizures – almost 200 kilos more than in the previous four months.
It included 500kg of Colombian coke found at Surrey’s Farnborough airport in January, inset.
Five men – two British, two Spanish and one Italian – are currently on trial.
The street value of the contraband once cut and mixed would be over £150m if sold at £60-a-gram. Kept as a purer product it could be worth even more.
Last week Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said drugs and gangs were linked to violence which has claimed 87 lives in the capital this year.
She said demand for cocaine was on the rise and there was a challenge tackling middle-class users who worry about the environment, but not about people affected by their drug habits.
The “backlash” engendered by Boris’s burka comment proves one thing and that is that most of the Muslim faith have failed to integrate with the natives of the country they inhabit. This incident proves that they do not appreciate the British sense of humour and should do so to achieve full integration. Do many Muslims even have a sense of humour? If so what do they laugh at? Maybe, “In Birmingham this weekend a letterbox fell victim to forced marriage. Police are looking into it”.
Roger, tragically this is IMO more true than untrue.
Contrast this with the Hindu and Sikh populations in Britain, who by any measure are more willing to fit in and integrate. I view as a healthy development the radio (1996-8), and then TV (1998-2001), comedy show “Goodness Gracious Me”.
GGM is an almost no-holds-barred (just a few sacred cows – it isn’t South Park) view of Indians settled in Britain laughing at/with, and poking fun at, almost everything, but ESPECIALLY AT THEMSELVES.
It’s self-critical and occasionally ruthless at exposing hypocrisy, absurdity and folly within the community. It was pretty successful, here and abroad. The Buddhist Pest Control operative (who wouldn’t kill anything at all) is a classic, as well as “Cheque Please”, “I can get it cheaper” and “Everything originally came from India”.
If I rate Fawlty Towers at 10/10 and Monty Python at 8/10, this is a 6/10.
GGM shows a community that is comfortable with itself and able to laugh at itself. It had four recurring actors (two Hindus, a Parsi and a Sikh).
But jokes about Muslims almost never occur in GGM, and Muslims are almost never portrayed, for fear of giving offence (as the scriptwriters admitted).
And 20 years later, a GGM equivalent of Muslims poking fun at Muslims hasn’t yet appeared AFAIK.
Why?
I do not trust Davis!
Today I read that Arron Banks is funding Leave EU supporters to join the Tory party recruitment campaign to put Boris in and topple the travesty of a PM we currently have.
Further major Tory donors have the wind up and will increase their efforts to prevent that.
Our increase in recruitment must be concentrated in winnable seats as we are too spread out to make an impact in the next election.
Labour local candidates are out leafleting on their do gooder effect against local Tory council failures.
All parties are gearing up for an election. We need to have a spearhead campaign.
“Project Fear” – two key words to bear in mind here are “would” and “could”
-“Supermarket giants have warned the Treasury that a no-deal Brexit would force up the price of the average weekly food basket”
Would = ‘will happen’
-“The biggest tariffs on imports from the EU could include cheese, up by 44%, beef, up by 40%, and chicken, up 22%.”
Could = ‘could happen’
Presumably there would be no increase in price for cheese, beef and chicken products produced in the UK. And if those products are already slightly more expensive than their equivalents produced in or using produce imported from the EU, then it should create a fair level playing field, and be a boost to UK producers. That is, after all, the purpose of tariffs, for a level of protectionism.
Then again, under WTO rules/terms, we could of course decide to apply zero-tariffs on imported goods if we liked. Problem solved.
Personally I believe the big supermarkets are going to use this as an excuse to increase their prices anyway. The “race to the bottom” on pricing is denting their profits and margins, and we can’t be having that. 😉
I can remember Before Common Market (BCM). We traded with the Commonwealth – four or five times (?) bigger zone than the current trade with europe.
BCM New Zealand Lamb was about the cheapest meat one could buy. Now it is the dearest.
Getting out would reduce our weekly shopping bill.
These fancy percentages you/they throw at us do they take into account exchange rates?, surely they will be completely different after Brexit, whether we have a deal or no deal.
“FRANCE is on collision course with the European Commission after it excluded French ports as part of its plans for a new shipping route linking Ireland with the bloc post-Brexit”
Another Brexit bonus is that lorries carrying goods between Ireland and the EU mainland will not be driving across the UK.
Environmental Brexit wins again.
Debbie somehow overlooked:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6050867/Girlfriend-ex-Ukip-leader-Henry-Bolton-felt-like-Anne-Frank-racist-texts-scandal.html
wherein one learns of (alleged):
– pre-planned IMO gross and vile deception of UKIP members. And I believe it went further than the two most obviously involved, to at least one at the top of the *then* UKIP *administrative* hierarchy and who is this moment seeking to return to complete the job of finishing us off, prematurely abandoned. This is someone whose accomplices are still embedded within UKIP.
– covert transportation of a girl half one’s age zipped up in a suitcase, as per British Army (Territorial, mind you) regulations?
– fantasies involving Anne Frank and some confusion that underage Miss Frank was hiding from the Nazis trying to avoid being murdered, and not indulging in surreptitious nookie.
– a UKIP serving leader attending a key NEC meeting clad in ladies’ underwear, to wit leopard-print knickers. Photos, presumably, to follow, as happened with the socks?
etc.
The Readers’ Comments are a treat and I suspect will ripen further.
Freddy, why keep taking up old coals ?
Our job as members is to attack the opposition not regurgitate MSM propaganda against UKIP.
Ex LibDem Henry Bolton etc etc.
> old coals
Checked the calendar recently, Bryan?
Today’s Sunday August 12th.
The article is in today’s Mail on Sunday.
Today is not old.
BBC Radio already called me this morning for a reaction.
Others in UKIP need to be alerted, as they too will get calls.
With the greatest of respect, UKIPDaily is used to communicate with others besides yourself, Bryan… sigh…
Helko Freddy, I was offering my decades of experience to you.
Your reply has narked me a bit but as you’ve been such a stunning siccessy in London using your political insight turning 12%-20% of vote share down to 1.5% I know you can’t help it.
At a time of LabCon infighting and probable leadership elections and loss of support, why are Establishment propaganda outlets asking little old Freddy for an interview ?
This is how we learn the abilities of leaders.
When the BBC asked for your views on an ex-LibDem weirdo did you;
A) realise they are against us and offered “No comment” to the BBC and Daily Mail anti UKIP hit piece.
Or,
B) Was your ego flattered by the chance of 10 secs of fame and you joined in the self harm.?
Of course my reply to the BBC was “No Comment”.
Being narked isn’t an excuse for being crass and inaccurate…
If one’s talking numbers, then the proportionate reduction of UKIP votes in London at the 2017 GE was fractionally less than for UKIP in the rest of the UK, despite the demographic change in London being far more dramatic than elsewhere.
My decades of experience tells me never to argue with ____. Quite pointless. Hence, do carry on.
“If one’s talking numbers, then the proportionate reduction of UKIP votes in London at the 2017 GE was fractionally less than for UKIP in the rest of the UK, despite the demographic change in London being far more dramatic than elsewhere”.
As you’re talking numbers can you provide us with the number of UKIP voters in London when you became London Chairman compared to the recent Lewisham by-elections.
If those numbers don’t work for you can you furnish us with London UKIP members when you became London Chairman compared to now ?
Also, can you provide us with the number of voters you have attracted when you posted anti-UKIP msm cobblers.
“With the greatest of respect, UKIPDaily is used to communicate with others besides yourself”
I know, that’s why it’s wrong to help our oppo by raking over old coals.
He’s gone, she’s gone. Nothing to be gained by fighting old wars. In fact you may lose votes especially mine.
I always let the less politically astute and more egotistical have the last word so we await your reply.
Make that I hope Freddy will be as charitable.
Dear oh dear, you are treading on thin ice here.
Hillingdon again, so absolutely nothing to see, move along folks. 😉
Oh thanks for reminding us Freddy.

And watch out for the Thought Police. Jokes have never been so dangerous in Western Europe since the time of the Inquisition and especially Ferdinand’s one.
Henry who?…………………….and who cares. Trying to rebuild his political career, don’t make me laugh. The former UKIP members that went off with him, then split and went off in another direction and call themselves The Foundation Party. One thing they both have in common, neither have a website and are going nowhere fast. Good riddance, we don’t want them either.
I find the Anne Frank comparison in exceptionally bad taste. It’s the comment that’s all over the web when you Goggle recent UKIP news at the moment…
Yes indeed, Rob.
The Mirror has also been running with it, and saved themselves whatever it cost the Mail on Sunday (£2K is estimated by A.N.Other; I await more expert analysis).
Let’s be charitable and attribute this to a mixture of ignorance and shock value.
Anne Frank was a shy 13-14 year old, inexperienced, figuring out the world and maybe the first stirrings of love too (the movie is a bit forward here), but forced into hiding for years out of the certainty of being murdered, were she to be discovered, by a ruthless and remorseless adversary. The Franks were smart and had figured out that Hitler’s resettlement was to somewhere outside of planet earth. She just had to shut that out of her mind to stay sane, I think…
I read her diary when I was pretty tender myself, and together with Uncle Tom’s Cabin, it was a book that made me cry.
I must have missed the alt-universe version which has the poor mite in hiding instead for just a few weeks in order to shack up with some bloke nearly 30 years her senior.
I hope those responsible get to read this, and to hang their heads in shame at the damage they are wantonly doing to the only credible force in the UK to pressurise for a real Brexit. Disgraceful.
I thought I’d post this FYI as I agree with it, it is scary stuff.

Seriously it should give pause for thought as I seem to recall a chap was given a prosthetic hand that he could operate by mind processes.
On another matter while you are here.
I watched a video the other day featuring a chap called Allan Savory – he was demonstrating his plan to save the globe from becoming “all desert”, basically by mass occupation of herd animals – apparently he is already doing effective demonstrations in Africa, Mexico, Australia.
Thought you might be interested!

There are already fighter jets that can be controlled – including targeting and firing of weapons – using eye, and maybe also brain, sensors so as to shave a few hundred milliseconds off response time.
