Julia Hartley-Brewer, the broadcaster and columnist, has made a robust case for renegotiating our position in the EU, if not coming out entirely. During the Press Preview on Sky News, she said to Labour MP Tessa Jowell “The public have been telling you for twenty years: we don’t like this! … We are on a freight train heading towards political unity and no one wants it. Whenever there’s been a referendum, people don’t want it”

Tessa Jowell’s response? She dismissed Hartley-Brewers’s views as “a rant”. She also dismissed Hartley-Brewers’s suggestion that a referendum should be held as “ridiculous”.

Jowell’s response is typical of a Labour Party that puts ideology before the wishes of the people of Britain.
