That’s appalling …!

 

There were a handful of appalling news reports in the MSM this morning. There’s the mass shooting in Plymouth: how is that even possible given our strict gun laws? There are some reports relating to ‘education’ which are appalling because they demonstrate that lefty ideology rules, that nothing has changed or will change. More on that below.

And then there’s the report that the Paras are going back into Afghanistan, to rescue the remaining Brits and some Afghan helpers. The US Marines are also going back in, for the same reason. This rescue mission is due to the lightning-fast advance of the Taliban. That was of course totally unforeseeable to Biden when he announced that all foreign troops would be withdrawn by August 31st 2021!

It was seven years ago that our troops left, after years of bloody fighting where 454 of our soldiers lost their lives. We’re certainly entitled to ask for what they died and if their sacrifice was worth it! Ah well – ‘our politicians’ know best, don’t they! Their fluffy weasel words are the same, regardless of being Labour or Tory. Here’s the current Secretary of State for Defence, Mr Wallace:

“He said that all troops would be withdrawn by September, Biden’s original deadline. The operation was a “long-planned phase” of the withdrawal, but he admitted that the speed of the Taliban advance had forced his hand. “We recognise what is going on on the ground,” he said. “But we do have to put troops in, in order to enable the next step of leaving. It’s a perfectly normal thing to do.” (link, paywalled)

Words fail me – utterly! ‘Perfectly normal’, is it? Do we really believe that this is a long-planned phase, that the MoD had planned this ‘operation’ for a long time? How, when Biden announced the withdrawal only in April this year?

Do these mealy-mouthed phrases by Mr Wallace mean that they actually knew the Taliban would advance so rapidly, with practically no resistance offered by the Afghan government troops which our troops have been training for so many years? Perhaps the generals and the Defence Secretary hoped that we’d not really ask questions given that “we” are either on holidays or engaged in covid madness.

But there’s more. We are outraged over the failure of our authorities to stop the invasion of dinghy “refugees” across the Channel, but, having been properly trained by the left to accept ‘diversity’, we just grumble.  Meanwhile, as thousands of Afghans are entering Turkey illegally via Iran, Turkish people are attacking Syrian refugees in Ankara. According to the UNHCR there are over 3 million Syrian refugees in Turkey. No wonder that “anti-migrant sentiment in Turkey has been rising in recent years, with a number of politicians campaigning for harsher restrictions.” (link)!

This ‘sentiment’ is of course not worthy of criticism by our diversity and ‘immigration is good’ brigade. That would be … racist, and above all they cannot blame horrid old white men and ‘extreme far ultra right’ Brits for these riots.

There will clearly be more refugees from the Taliban which we’ll have to take in because the diversity-obsessed Left will cry that “we” started it by going into Afghanistan. It’s irrelevant that, twenty years ago, “we” started this under yon Labour PM whose name ought to live in infamy.

Closer to home there’s another result of yon Labor PM’s policy to force diversity down our throats. We read in The Times:

“Foreign-born mothers now account for about half of all births in England’s biggest cities, research has found. In 2019, 57 per cent of births in London, 50 per cent in Manchester and 42 per cent in Birmingham were to mothers born overseas, according to an analysis of official population statistics. The majority of births in towns across the east of England and East Midlands were also to foreign mothers.” (link, paywalled)

‘Foreign-born mothers’ – how weaselly is that! Of course, ‘foreign-born mothers’ having babies was also totally unforeseeable. We know that these ‘foreign-born mothers’ live in communities which are more akin to separatist enclaves than to ‘diversity celebrating’ communities – something only we native Brits must ‘enjoy’.

Furthermore, we’ve been told by lefty diversity tsars that these communities are all suffering deprivation – the one battle cry left for any red-blooded lefty. So it’s unsurprising that, regularly each year, the lefty education establishment howls about the exam results of ‘the underprivileged’ being so dismal:

“Pupils on free school meals have dropped further behind more affluent classmates at GCSE level, according to analysis of this year’s results. […] Ofqual said there was a slight widening of the “long-standing results gap” in England between students in receipt of free school meals and those who are not, […] The gap has been a persistent problem but had been gradually closing for ten years. In 2020 it stalled and this year has grown slightly.” (link, paywalled)

I’ll note in passing that this gap has been ‘gradually closing’ since the Tories replaced the Labour government. More intriguing is that this gap is apparently between classmates, but neither Ofqual nor the Labour diversity & education henchpeople are being asked if this gap relates to underprivileged white kids or to kids from ‘diverse’ backgrounds: that would be racist, innit.

Obviously, these results are now blamed on covid and the ‘uneven impact of the pandemic’. It was totally unforeseeable that online teaching would be hugely difficult in those ‘underprivileged’ areas: poor kids have no computers and that’s the fault of stone-hearted Torees. It’s not the fault of lefty teachers in those areas who didn’t really want to teach, and of course nobody dares to ask if the cultural background in those segregated, diverse communities might conceivably have something to do with these results. 

Meanwhile, the cultural ‘elite’ in Westminster has another issue to belly-ache about: students aren’t keen to learn modern languages, especially German which 10% fewer students took up for their GCSE studies. Aww – there’s terrible, innit! However there’s an interesting nugget in the report which shows again the detrimental effect the Labour governments have had on our educational system:

“The number of students choosing to learn a language has decreased steadily over the past two decades since the Labour government scrapped the requirement for pupils to learn a language after the age of 14.” (link, paywalled)

I suggest that the drive of Tory educational ministers to reverse this trend was doomed to fail: who would study to become a teacher of foreign languages when, during the Labour decades, schools have shown that foreign languages are neither needed nor wanted. One last astonishing result, clearly due to covid and lockdowns, is this:

“Other subjects that have shrunk substantially in the past year include design and technology, statistics and media studies. Geography had a significant increase, with 4.4 per cent more youngsters taking the subject, equivalent to 11,719 pupils.” (link, paywalled)

At least we’re given a number, not just a percentage, even though this number of geography students is just conjecture. This is the result of decades of Labour politicians dismantling our educational system, of lefty ideologues fulminating against Tory educational policies which the lefty infested Ministry of Education has been sabotaging for the last decade. Appalling, isn’t it!

Even more appalling is that the denizens of the Westminster Village, especially in the MSM, are not up in arms over this shocking outcome which we see year after year. Instead they ‘celebrate clever girls’. The boys – well, they can always become squaddies, can’t they, and die, in far-flung places, for those clever girls. ‘Tis good though that a few more pupils will now learn where those far-flung places can be found on the globe.
