It’s the ‘Day After’ – and, who knows, it might become a ‘Day Before’. I’m talking, of course, about ‘Storm Eunice’ for which the Met Office had given a ’Red Alert’ for the first time because it was so deadly.  I’m also speaking of the ‘Russian Invasion’ which hasn’t happened yet. According to the MSM. Biden is now ‘convinced’ it will go ahead. Since he’s the President of the USA he surely must know things which we ignorant plebs wouldn’t know the first thing about. As for ‘Storm Eunice’: yesterday’s actions of government, especially local councils, and the behaviour of people as reported in the MSM sadly speak for themselves.

Let’s look at “Storm Eunice” first. There was a gust of 122mph measured at The Needles (Isle of Wight). Amazing – but please repeat after me: one gust is a gust is a gust. It’s not sustained wind speed. Still, one chimney at a power station in Kent collapsed, a million households were without power, four people died. There were the now customary photos of huge waves crashing over the seawall at the Porthcawl lighthouse in Wales, a veritable magnet for ‘storm chasers’ in search of stunning photos. They go there regardless of Coast Guard warnings.

The BBC has produced their usual collage of the MSM print editions’ title pages (link). Well, now we know: it was ‘carnage’! Meanwhile, the ever helpful Times is giving the posh plebs – those who can afford their subscription fees – a helping hand, publishing a ‘Q & A’ article with answers about such vital questions such as will people be able to drive today and will trains run and planes fly (link, paywalled). After all, even in the times of now nearly ubiquitous smartphones how are even posh plebs supposed to find out without ‘guidance’!

Depending on one’s point of view, it’s another sign either of the infantilisation of huge swathes of our population, now needing ‘guidance’ from ‘experts’ before they dare to leave their homes – or for the overreach of the governing class to which the MSM now belong. Since the first lockdown they have become addicted to the power of telling us what to do, especially when they can scream ‘deathly danger – don’t move!’. So it was unsurprising to read that police officers were chasing dog walkers out of public parks. who’d only taken their pets out, briefly, before the storm was going to hit. Police tapes were strung across park entrances, just as in the olden days of Lockdown.

From the Met Office all the way down to the local tinpot dictators, all have learned that “we” have become compliant and will follow the ‘guidance’ from whatever ‘experts’ they wheel out. One wonders how we have been able to survive the many strong storms which have swept our country since time immemorial. Those of us with a memory more capacious than that of amoeba remember earlier storms producing similar devastations without the whole country going into ‘voluntary lockdown’.

There’s one question for which I’d like an answer. TPTB are alway justifying their diktats with the ‘precautionary principle’. The most hair-raising example yesterday was that of a hospital in Cornwall which announced they’d close their A & E Department during yon storm because ‘they want to keep people safe’ … no, I dunno either how that was supposed to work, except: it’s a precaution!

Why then aren’t unsafe trees felled, especially along railway lines? Why are there still so many electricity lines, especially in rural areas, not buried in the ground? Why is there always sufficient money for green cr*p but not for infrastructure on which we rely and will have to rely when the ‘Net Zero’ policies start biting? Why will “we” have to spend millions of £££ on ‘the clear-up’ afterwards (link) instead of paying less for making things safe beforehand, as ‘a precaution’, according to the ‘one stitch in time …’ principle?

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Big Pond, Biden tweeted that he’s certain Putin will invade (link). Decisions on war and peace seem now to depend on a tweet – how safe is that! And what about the MSM who are now in full war propaganda mode, declaring everything that happens at the Ukrainian border with Russia as ‘staged’ or ‘fake’ (link, paywalled)?

With the help of intelligence services who drip their information anonymously into the newsrooms, everything that happens in that region will be labelled a ‘false flag event’, put in place by Putin. It’s of course unthinkable that Ukrainian warmongers might produce such ‘false flag’ events in order to push Putin to retaliate and to force NATO to intervene!

One wonders though why, if the situation is so clear and has been since last year, NATO hasn’t been beefing up their military presence long since, as a ‘precautionary’ move, warning Putin. Ah – but that would have ‘inflamed’ him! It’s of course irrelevant that the various demands from the US and Western nations are equally inflammatory. Apparently the US Foreign Secretary Mr Blinken believes that ordering Putin to remove all of his 200,000 troops, is in no way inflammatory.

Remember, these troops are in Russia and that Blinken is trying to dictate to a sovereign country, a nuclear power. Don’t’ ask how come there are now 200,000 troops and where they came from. After all, the US satellites surely must have seen them move. So why didn’t they tell the western MSM about such movements earlier? Unthinkable that they’ve been miscounting!

There’s one other, rather important, news item. Remember how the combined western powers and their MSM have been telling us incessantly that there never was any sort of agreement about not moving NATO eastwards? Well – now it looks as if in fact there was:

“It was February 1990 when Mikhail Gorbachev and the US secretary of state met for talks on Germany’s future. During hours of discussion in Moscow James Baker promised Gorbachev through his interpreter, Pavel Palazhchenko, that if US troops remained in Germany after reunification, Nato would not expand “an inch to the east”.” (link, paywalled)

The usual apologists are now declaring that this was then, that the situation has now changed. Of course it has! After all, this is politics and there’s no politician wanting to remember his talk of yesteryears. There’s more:

“In March 1991, John Major, the prime minister, told Moscow that he did not foresee “circumstances now or in the future where east European countries would become members of Nato”. Douglas Hurd, his foreign secretary, went even further, saying that there were “no plans in Nato to include the countries of eastern and central Europe in Nato in one form or another”. (link, paywalled)

According to an article published in Germany, the USA ‘changed their minds’ about NATO enlargement in the mid-1990s. A knave who thinks that the crumbling Russian economy under Jelzin in the mid 1990s had anything to do with that! Putin regarded NATO as benign when he succeeded Jelzin but, after the years of NATO expansion, he asked at a 2007 security conference “What happened to the assurances our western partners made after the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact?” (link, paywalled). Indeed: what did?

The world isn’t made up of clever western nations. there are many others, from India to South America, who observe this spectacle. Are the USA and our own politicians not concerned that they are shown up as untrustworthy, their words not to be relied on? There’s one other question: why is it that we don’t hear a peep about Chinese encroachments in the China Sea, why are there no demands Mr Xi stop his threats and military power play in regard to Taiwan? Is that ‘too far away’, does Taiwan not matter?

We can only wait and observe aghast how our leaders are talking up a ‘little local war’. Perhaps they hope that such threat is just the right instrument for nudging us into accepting more restrictions, more loss of our Freedom. After all, hasn’t Storm Eunice just now demonstrated that “we” are happy to comply with ‘guidance’ from experts? That “we” don’t mind giving up our own liberty, giving up our own judgement of what is and isn’t dangerous?

The sheepification of our country has progressed satisfactorily for our government nudgers. We’ve shown again that we are prepared to give up our liberty for temporary safety. The famous quote warns that those who do this will deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Alas, that quote is soo last week …
