Just as Jerome K Jerome wrote one of my favourite books ‘Three Men in a Boat’, he also wrote another, in my view, equally humorous, but seemingly not now, remembered so well – ‘Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow’. Well just for laughs (possibly) I will give you this one of mine.
It’s not ‘Fake News’ always, it is often ‘inconvenient’ news for those who are affected by, and seek to hide or deny its content.

But in the context, as a contributor to Independence Daily, I have a confession (of sorts) to make – I am a secret reader of the Daily Telegraph – not that I actually ‘take it’ every day, but have often bought it at news-stands, even ever since the days of my callow youth, spent at sea in the Merchant Navy, visiting West Africa and other countries both sides of the Atlantic.

I have purchased special ‘flimsy’ overseas air mail editions in the 1950s from the Kingsway in Lagos, Nigeria. I say ‘secret’ because I am aware of comments on here that suggest I have and perhaps still am, consorting with the devil.

So to business – I have been aware and applaud Viv`s excellent recent analyses of Allister Heath’s article in the DT and that today of David Frost (I hope the Truss connection is something like Trilby and Svengali! – he pulls her strings), in fact I have already purchased my edition which contains the Frost article.

My ‘idle thought’ for the day – I get to read the full edition of the paper (not the digital digest or should I say indigest?), I read from cover to cover (including the Business Section – often a valuable source of information) and I find there are other bits that signify criticism of the Government and the accepted consensus of the ancien regime status quo, as David Frost terms it. I believe it deserves a mention here on Independence Daily.

Here`s one example – A headline from an article written by Allison Pearson (bad start, she can`t even spell her own name right – my daughter Alison has only one ‘L’ – never mind, only joking, unless that is now counted as ‘cancellation speech’).

The headline then – “Our leaders broke Britain, but we are getting the blame”.  Allison is ‘fuming’ at the use of the word ‘handouts’.

“It’s as if Liz Truss & R S were Victorian benefactors who, out of the goodness of the flinty mill-owners’ hearts were minded to drop a few coppers into the outstretched cloth cap of the millions who can no longer afford their gas bills.”

She writes – “It’s hardly a charitable ‘handout’ when people have paid their taxes in the reasonable expectation that the government will make sure they have affordable energy.

“Is it the fault of the British people that their leaders have been seduced by the siren call of the Renewables Blob who keep claiming that green energy is incredibly cheap and storage will come along any day now?”

The TPTB say, she writes, – “Of course, it is our (The Public/Peasants/Grassroots – this is me!) fault. The public is now to blame, or so it would seem for every deluded policy or corporate failure and we must meekly take our punishment like obedient boys and girls that we are.”  (Or as I maintain, not just as we are, but how they have made us by nudge campaigns, outright lies and techniques learned in the Korean war).

“The coming recession?  All down to Peter and Jane in Sutton Coldfield for going over the top with terracotta pots that Saturday in Homebase.

“Nothing to do with Andrew Bailey, the Governor of the Bank of England? Did you seriously think it was his job to keep inflation at 2%?

“Hosepipe ban? Look!, obviously we are very sorry, but consumers really shouldn’t have been using water in the first place.  Taking SHOWERS – see, that is precisely the kind of cavalier approach to hygiene that got us in this mess. Hot tip – instead of taking a shower why not apply a damp flannel to your perspiring parts?” commonly called FFF or stripwash!”

She concludes – “This is Britain in 2022, a populace taxed beyond endurance, punished like naughty children for the costly failure of the gilded, frictionless, ‘nothing to do with us’ class.  How much longer will we allow them to re-assign the blame they so richly deserve?”

Oh, and next time some patronising politician vows to give ‘handouts’ for their horrible energy bills which their Net Zero fanaticism and economic mismanagement helped to inflate – don`t scream and shout, simply say: “Thank you so much, but it is not a ‘handout’, its our money which you spent and we would like it back.”

Finally, there is another article from the Daily Telegraph, in fact, the day before Allister Heath’s one, “Conspiracy of silence about the impact of mass immigration has cost Britain dear.” Philip Johnston, sub heading – “Failure to plan for the extra millions of people coming to Britain is behind many of our current woes”.

(Please note I have commented and included this neglect in some of my articles on ID over a number of years – how is it the MSM are only getting hold of it now, when it has been plain as a pike staff that FULL UP must have dire social and economic consequences. I believe our density of population is three times that of France.)  However, I`m afraid, comment on that will have to await another dawn, but it is profoundly relevant to the crisis the country is in.

I know I said ‘finally’, but there is one other matter which is perhaps the most important.  Defence should be first priority for any government. Easy question – do we have any ‘effective’ defence?  As far as I can make out, it is a bigger shambles than the economy.
