The Trap

‘Brexit is done!’, ‘The Brexit Wars are over’, ‘The UK has finally won back its sovereignty’ are the words we have heard describing Johnson’s ‘deal’, or should I say, new EU treaty. The unquestioning flag-waving and bleating of victory for Boris has been deafening.. No-one dare renounce his deal; it really is a new version of the Emperor’s New Clothes story. Some have bravely called the deal out, here, here, and here.

Unfortunately, the war is not over, and Brexit is not done, far from it really. To assume things are done and dusted is both foolish, naive, and dare I say it simply untrue.

Some of you may have read a book by James Goldsmith called ‘The Trap’. Published in 1994, for those who have not read it, I recommend doing so, especially just for the chapter on the EU. The book is incredibly prophetic, the EU flag wavers should have read it back then. One wonders if Sir James was alive today, what would he have made of this new treaty?

In my opinion, this new treaty is the most dangerous position that we could have found ourselves in, and here’s why.

1. Now that the ‘Brexit is done’ lie has been swallowed hook, line and sinker, the establishment have taken the EU completely off the political menu. This means that the Brexit Party, UKIP and any other ‘leave the EU’ parties have been neutralised politically. A voter will now think, ‘What’s the point of voting for a leave the EU party if we have left?’
2. A level playing field is very much still here, defenders of the treaty will say, ‘yes, but we can both leave the deal and deviate’. This is true, however, you have to assume there is the political will to either leave or deviate. Having witnessed the abuse towards Britain from the EU for four and a half years we should have already walked. If Trump had been lead negotiator, he would have walked over four years ago. The fact we didn’t, says a lot, the fact we agreed to the terms of this deal says even more. Sure, we can technically deviate or leave, in reality we will keep to EU rules alignment. There is no political will to deviate, we still keep EU employment law, green policy and much else. We need to pay attention and track just how much we do deviate (if at all). The first test will be when the first litigation or arbitration begins against us and it will happen eventually. The political establishment may find it easier to keep quiet, stay aligned and kick the can down the road.
3. The EU have retained our fish, a resource that was not theirs to begin with. Sure we get a little back in 2026; but, just like 1973, the fishermen and fishing industry has been sold-out by the Conservatives once again. Johnson has repeated the same mistake of Heath. Other countries who signed trade deals with EU did not require them to give away their fish.
4. The EU have annexed both Northern Ireland and Gibraltar, both without a shot fired. Something that both the IRA and Spain failed to do in wartime. The UK, has essentially voluntarily seceded part of its national territory in peacetime, normally something that occurs from a defeated nation in war. It’s clear the UK is a defeated nation, and the establishment still do not believe in it. Some may argue that GB is better off without the Northern Irish. However, this is a warning to us all; if a government would betray it most loyal citizens so brazenly, these same villains will have no qualms about betraying anyone else. This was one of the most cold, calculated, acts of betrayal ever, the Tories, happy to virtue signal saving 3 million Hong Kong Chinese, but not actual British citizens!. Eventually, this particular crocodile may come for each one of us too, that friends, is reason enough to oppose it. Don’t for one second think it won’t happen to you too.
5. This deal will actually invigorate the remain/re-join camp, we are essentially a bespoke associate EU member in name only. Our position is akin to an aircraft on a holding pattern, kept circling until the time is right to re-join. I suspect this is deliberately planned. When people like Blair, Major, Brown and Heseltine like the deal that bodes rather badly. All remain/re-join now have to do is keep alignment as close as possible, wait till the demographics shift to pro-EU, then reapply to join in 5-10 years time. Selling the Euro would be no problem with so many young, brainwashed EU supporting fanatics waiting in the wings. The plans are already being considered.
6. UK services have no special provisions in the treaty, therefore this deal is no benefit to that lucrative sector. I suspect this was a ploy from the EU hoping that it will encourage British companies to relocate to Europe, and further damage the UK economy.
7. The EU will have full access to our market with zero tariffs, a market in which we run a £91 billion (figure varies) trade deficit. I suspect the recent Dover port truck fiasco was deliberately engineered by the EU with the help of the French to scare the Tories and force concessions. It worked. We will also give the EU a divorce payment, for nothing.

This is a bad treaty for the UK, a VERY bad treaty; based on what’s being offered, but excellent news for the EU. ‘No Deal’ is still the best option. This deal is even more devious and damaging than May’s WA. This treaty is more comparable to the Versailles Treaty than Brexit. The real damage will be seen later down the line, when Johnson is long gone. There will be much anger, and gnashing of teeth when the true extent of this betrayal is discovered. History shows bad treaties have dire consequences later, Versailles led to WW2, what will Johnson’s deal lead to?
