Souls freeze and people die but ‘rules’ must be followed

Firstly – it’s hot, a.k.a. ‘Summer’. Secondly, as inevitable as sunrise, ‘water rationing’ has been ‘introduced’ in parts of the country (link). In ye olden days we used to call this ‘a hosepipe ban’. I confess though that I cannot recall ever having seen this:

“UK weather: Schools forced to close due to water shortage – As three schools shut, the water company says the prolonged spell of dry weather during the past two months has put pressure on supplies” (link, paywalled)

It is inexplicable why, after a very wet spring, the water companies still can’t cope with prolonged summer weather. I wonder if all those bureaucrats, be they in Whitehall, be they in these big companies, are simply not preparing for ‘weather’ but rely on telling us that ‘rationing’ is inevitable.

They were lucky this winter and got away without “energy rationing”. Now it’s “water rationing”. Better not ask about our woeful lack of infrastructure when we accommodate ever more “migrants” and plan to build ever more houses on formerly green land. Do they not need to wash and drink, never mind sprinkling water over ‘a garden’?

But I digress. There are two reports which chilled me to the core. Firstly, the horrible news of the knife crime in Nottingham which is splashed across the MSM front pages: “Newspaper headlines: ‘Nottingham rampage’ and ‘Mortgage misery looming’” (link). Only the FT – no surprise there – and iNews have gone with ‘mortgage misery’ because the BoE is thinking out loud about another rise in interest rates.

One point made in the reports on the horrendous murder of those poor people in Nottingham ought to be emphasised and not forgotten. It throws a glaring light on our society (all emphases are mine):

“Sources said the suspect was a West African migrant who had settled in the UK legally and was known to police. It is not yet known what sparked the rampage and sources said that while the suspect did not have a criminal record, he was known to police and also had a history of mental health problems. (paywalled link)

How often do we hear that a suspect ‘was known to the police’, and how often are we told about such suspect having a history of mental health problems? How many professionals have been pointing out the dire circumstances of our mental health ‘system’? Compare and contrast with the money splurged on genderitis and on the medical and surgical transformation of kids into ‘trans’ people!

How inhumane has our society become: a society where people with mental health problems, known to the police, are left on their own in the name of ‘freedom’! I would like to know if this murderer had a home and who paid for it. I would like to know if this murderer was registered at some GP surgery, if he had medication, if he was supervised taking them. Is this what we’re told is being ‘caring’?

The other, chilling report which upset me on first reading and which upsets me even now as I write, is about a RAF soldier who went to the Iraq war and came back, suffering from PTDS. He became an alcoholic and, after his parents, who had looked after him, could no longer cope with his alcoholism, he became homeless and was left to die:

“Despite a government-backed scheme that should have provided beds to all homeless people during the pandemic, the veteran’s plea went unanswered in November 2021. He was found dead in the grounds of a church next to a shelter that he had approached for a bed on two occasions in an attempt not to sleep outside in winter. A series of errors meant that a room was not found for [him] and he was instead given a sleeping bag and blanket. There was no evidence of alcohol or drugs in his blood on the day that he died, according to a toxicology report.” (link, paywalled)

Only The Times has reported this case. I wonder why the ever zealous lefties in the grauniad or the BBC haven’t copied that report, published on Monday. Usually, they are eager to do so. Is it because this unfortunate man was a veteran suffering with PTSD, an alcoholic – and white?

Or is it because they’d have to mention that the administrators of these homeless charities were following rules but not their hearts? Would it have been so terrible to let that man sleep on the floor inside the home – they did have a sleeping bag and blankets for him after all!

What sort of society have we become where ‘following rules’ is more important than the lives of others? Where people with real mental health problems are left to their own devices, where soldiers with PTSD are left to cope on their own? Where our ‘native’ homeless can’t get help despite all those wonderful schemes which only show that bureaucracy has created more jobs for more box tickers who have now of course ‘learned the lesson’?  Meanwhile illegal migrants are presented with hotel accommodation …

That’s all I have for today. It’s warm outside – but inside, in  my heart and soul, I am shivering because of the cold with which our society treats those in real need – a need disregarded by the hordes of lefties in the MSM and government. Have a good day.
