These dogs are racists!

 

It’s the silly season. People are on holidays or going on holidays. Nobody is at home to save the kids from their follies. Sometimes I think the few remaining adults, pursuing their own agenda, are secretly cheering them on. Perhaps the truly dangerous combination of lefty ideologies and post-covid brain mush is now getting out of hand. There are two pieces of ‘silly season news’ which come firmly under ‘you couldn’t make it up’. They made me wonder if we’re witnessing the Left’s ‘Peak Lunacy’.

Firstly, let’s look at a report documenting that wokeism has infiltrated even some of the most innocent-looking campaign groups. The report also shows that the author and editor have already accepted as ‘natural’ the gender-language beloved by the trans~ etc ‘community’. First, look at the headline and relish it:

“Racism row at the Vegan Society: Five trustees quit over claim veganism is ‘cultural appropriation’ because it was founded by white British man but uses foods and traditions from Africa and Asia” (link)

Good grief! Clearly, no ‘climate extreme crisis catastrophe’ acolyte can now propose veganism as the best way to ‘save the planet’ – that’s now racist! Also, obviously, meat-eating has now got to be the latest virtue-signal for anti-racist credentials! There’s more to this though – it’s absolutely delicious:

“Five trustees quit the Vegan Society last month amid allegations of institutional racism and transphobia sparked by a bitter row over whether the word ‘veganism’ was ‘cultural appropriation’. Last summer the society, which was established nearly eight decades ago, commissioned Ijeoma Omambala QC to investigate claims that the then vice chair, Eshe Kiama Zuri, had posted racist comments online.” (link)

Crikey – just look at how they connect ‘institutional racism’ and ‘transphobia’! Unsurprisingly, the barrister didn’t find that the vice chair’s remarks were ‘racist’. After all, that vice chair is a POC, a ‘person of colour’, and we know they cannot possibly be racist. It’s however fine for that person to allege:

“That veganism was coined by a ‘white man’ but ‘hippy vegan food’ is based upon culinary traditions including dal from Pakistan, tofu and wheat from China and hummus from the Middle East.” (link)

Does this vice chair mean that white vegans ought to stick to eating grass and acorns? I won’t even ask since when wheat is ‘from China’ – did this vice chair mean rice? – but do wonder how far back into agricultural history virtue-signalling vegans ought to go, in order to de-colonise veganism. Carrots must definitely be out because like so many of our modern fruit and vegetables they were first cultivated in the Middle East. Next, see this:

“The barrister also noted how the ‘vast majority’ of complaints against 25-year-old Zuri were unfounded but appeared motivated by an anonymous person’s ‘profound personal animosity’ towards Zuri due to their ‘identity and protected characteristics’. Zuri describes themself on their personal website as ‘disabled and non-gendered’, meaning they do not identify as either male or female.” (link)

Did you have to read this twice in order to understand the meaning of it? Well, the DM reporter, metropolitan person that he/she/it is, clearly believes that we all understand that a) this vice chair regards “themselves” as a multiple personality and b) must under no circumstances be offended by using the pronoun normal people would use because that is now offensive and hateful. That’s why Zuri went to the Law:

“The barrister’s report to the society added how during its meetings, Zuri had been ‘misgendered’ – referred to by a sex they do not identify as – and the council ‘is not equipped to have mature and constructive conversations on diversity and inclusion matters; nor is it able to deal effectively with challenges to prevailing orthodoxies’,” (link)

In case you wonder: this ‘mature’ 25-year-old joined the Vegan Society in 2019 and was voted in as vice chair in 2020 – certainly proof for her accusations of ‘institutional racism’, ‘colonialism’, ‘ableism’ or ‘transphobia’! Here’s what Zuri wrote:

“Zuri’s resignation letter states they had been ‘naive’ joining the council in 2019 as a ‘multiply marginalised trustee, being black, queer, disabled and working class’ accusing the charity of being ‘institutionally racist’.” (link)

Good gawd! So the old joke about someone ticking the boxes of “black, queer, disabled and working class” being given preferential treatment is actually true? Our suspicions that certain groups are joining NGOs in order to turn them woke are true? Well I nevah! Here’s more from Zuri’s pen:

“I can confidently say that the Vegan Society is not a safe place for young people, for black people, for queer people or for any other marginalised people.’ They [that’s Zuri] claim to have ‘brought a perspective to council that challenged not just trustees as individuals, but also the systemic racism and oppression that exists in any organisation set up without any time taken to look at diversity or inclusivity … and with a white supremacist structure…’” (link)

Let’s note in passing that this vice chair was ably supported by those other trustees who resigned because they championed her in her aim to change the Vegan Society’s ‘systemic racism’ and ‘oppression’, all caused to its having been founded by a white male in the last century. 

And so to that other news item, that dogs are racist – or so some research paper has found. The headline in The Times – a nice piece of click-bait! – is not exactly  precise, stating that “Sniffer dogs inherit unconscious bias” (link, paywalled). Crikey! Does this mean that dogs have genes for ‘unconscious bias’? What they actually mean is that dogs  ‘inherit’ the ‘unconscious bias’ of their handlers:

“The ability of animals to recognise human feelings has become a concern for the prison service, which is worried that handlers of sniffer dogs may be communicating “unconscious bias” to their canine charges.” (link, paywalled)

‘Unconscious bias’ is of course the latest woke issue which the ‘authorities’, i.e. mid-level bureaucrats are happy to stamp out. So we shouldn’t be surprised when we read  next:

“New guidance from Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service cites an American study that found detection dogs could be influenced by a handler’s “beliefs and expectations”. If a handler appeared certain that an incriminating scent would be present at a search location — whether it was drugs, explosives, alcohol or any other substance or object a sniffer dog is trained to detect — the dog would recognise its handler’s confidence and could return a false positive alert.” (link, paywalled)

So that’s how dog handlers get their dogs to sniff out drug dealers in queues at airports! How can one have an unconscious bias when one doesn’t even know which person carries the to-be-sniffed-out traces of drugs or explosives? Never mind – another of our Whitehall ‘service’s is on the woke bias-watch and has issued guidance! All is well! 

Silly season or not – these reports give me hope that we’re witnessing the Left’s peak lunacy, a lunacy created and driven by wokeism.
