It’s him again – ‘aving a larf
There are mornings when I have to check the date on my trusty PC to make sure it is indeed another day, that I’m not stuck in some nightmare where yesterday and the day before yesterday seem to have merged into one and are going on – and on – and on because the ‘news’ aren’t ‘new’. They’re the same old covid topics, only the headlines have changed slightly. So it’s again about the EU’s vaccine war, about jabs, tests and vaccine passports.
Regarding those ‘vaccine passports’: our covid PM has found a way of washing his hands like Pontius Pilate: he now believes that pub landlords should be permitted to demand such passports or not, just as they like. You will be deeply reassured to learn that BJ ‘has been thinking very deeply’ about this! I wasn’t aware that he’s been thinking ‘very deeply’ about anything covid-related – that just goes to show how much I’ve underestimated him! He even told MPs at a session of the Commons Liaison Committee that “he had been thinking “very deeply” about such issues during the pandemic.” (paywalled link).
This ‘deep thinking’ is very disturbing as this next quote demonstrates. It’ provides us with a glimpse into BJ’s self-image as ‘saviour of the nation’, while proving that the year-long fear & hysteria campaign in the MSM has born the fruits the SAGE Behavioral unit so desperately wanted: the sheepification of our nation:
“[Johnson] said he believed the public were on his side, saying that “my impression is that there is a huge wisdom in the public’s feeling about this. […] I’ve found myself in this long national conversation thinking very, very deeply about it and I think the public have been thinking very, very deeply about it. Human beings instinctively recognise when something is dangerous and nasty to them. They can see that Covid is collectively a threat, and they want us as their Government and me as the Prime Minister to take all the actions I can to protect them. And that’s what I’ve been doing for the last year or more.” (paywalled link)
Oh yes – we plebs have been thinking very deeply about this indeed, and have been talking about it, only to come to hugely different conclusions. But there we have it: practically all the lockdowns, the restrictions, the removal of our basic civil liberties were deeply benevolent because “we” recognised the covid danger thanks to the incessant drumbeat of the MSM – but let that pass. Our beloved covid leader did eevrything only to protect us scared rabbits. As piece of self-justification it’s in a class of its own!
Back to BJ’s ‘yes – no – maybe’ attitude to pub passports. This, we’re told, is a ‘marked departure’ from his previous stance a couple of months ago where he ruled this out. Tory backbenchers are criticising this change of attitude. Their reason is rather interesting:
“The prospect of “papers for the pub” has already prompted strong criticism from some Tory backbenchers, who warned that it could lead to landlords disproportionately turning away people from ethnic minorities whose vaccine uptake has been lower. Officials insist this will not happen and that people will be able to show a recent negative test as an alternative to proof of vaccination.” (link, paywalled)
Oooh – ‘racism’! How dreadful! And did you notice the sleight-of-hand in that last sentence? If one’s not had ‘the jab’, one would need a negative test … translated: we’ll all need covid papers in one form or another to be permitted a return to ‘normal’ life. Take those tests for example. It’s unclear why the covid tsars insist on mass testing when the latest, the Lateral Flow Test being used in schools at present, is producing far more false +ve results. The DT has a paywalled report on the latest study – you can read excerpts in LockdownSceptics here.
Why “we” need to test ourselves for a disease which is so dangerous that people don’t even notice they have it – well, I can come up with two reasons. One is that all those false +ve tests mean “we” can be kept longer under the covid government’s restrictions, the other is that this whole testing regime is a lovely little earner for some. At least the manufacture of test kits and the administration of them surely must give our ailing economy a much-needed boost?
And so to “Our Friends in the EU” … you couldn’t make this up: in the run-up to today’s EU summit where the leaders of the EU member states will decide on a blockade of vaccine ‘exports’, Italian ‘elite security forces’ raided a plant in Italy – on the say-so of an EU Commissioner who alleged that they’d find a massive stash of AZ vaccine doses destined for dastardly Britain. Lo and behold, they did find 29 million doses! Gasp! See this:
“During a surprise raid over the weekend, an elite unit of Italian military police acting on EU orders discovered 29 million jab doses hoarded at a factory near Rome. The discovery appeared to confirm the EU’s long-held suspicion that AstraZeneca was giving the UK special treatment, secretly exporting doses to its home country while failing to deliver on contracts agreed with Brussels.” (paywalled link)
Unfortunately, after righteous anger over perfidious Albion – just in time to support Ms vdLeyen’s initiative to block the export of every vaccine manufactured in EU member states – it turned out that this raid was, well, let’s be generous and say: it was unjustified. EU ‘officials’ who had told EU MSM about this shocking finding had to eat humble pie yesterday and admit publicly that, well, there was ‘a mistake’ because:
“In fact, most of the doses discovered in the Italian factory were destined for the EU itself, with the remainder headed for poorer countries across the world. One former Europe minister called it possibly the “most embarrassing day in the EU’s history”. (paywalled link)
So: lots of egg all over a lot of EU faces – but it doesn’t seem to’ve occurred to our Brussels Remain correspondents to ask how come the EU Commissioner is apparently empowered to demand member states check factories and send in the heavy squad on his say-so, just like that. It’s even more worrying that none of those EU ‘officials’, be they in Brussels, be they in Italy, seem to have thought it might have been a good idea to talk first to the AZ director of that Italian plant.
Nothing could demonstrate more clearly that Brussels doesn’t trust British firms still manufacturing in the EU. This doesn’t bode well for today’s EU summit where Ms vdLeyen’s plan will be debated. There was no compromise ‘paper’ by yesterday evening, so:
“Brussels will push through the plans, which last for an initial six weeks and require manufacturers to ask for permission to export jabs, despite fears from some EU countries they risk a trade war. The new rules target countries that manufacture coronavirus jabs but do not export them to the EU. “Open roads should run in both directions,” warned Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission president.” (paywalled link)
Gawd – when will we be spared hearing these trite inanities from that woman! It’s not all about the AZ vaccine though. The DT dug a bit deeper and spoke to the EU’s Trade commissioner, Mr Dombrovskis, who told them that:
“the EU had exported about 10.9 million vaccines, mostly from the Belgian Pfizer plant, to the UK, but Britain had not sent any jabs to the bloc. […] When asked by The Telegraph which country could be hardest hit by the ban, Mr Dombrovskis gave the UK as an example. He also did not deny that Pfizer exports to Britain could be blocked.” (paywalled link)
Never mind that it’s not ‘the EU’ exporting Pfizer vaccines but Pfizer itself. Also, it’s apparently ‘our’ fault, as one EU diplomat said Britain had ‘taken a risk’ by leaving itself ‘extremely dependent’ on the EU for second doses of the Pfizer jab (link). Yes, that’s regrettable – but perhaps those EU diplomats and commissioners might reflect on the warning by Pfizer directors that their EU plants are dependent on ingredients made in the UK – “roads running in both directions”, innit, Ms vdL!
Far more disgusting is the fact that the sanctimonious EU will deprive poorer countries of vaccine doses because such export ban would affect Covax, the umbrella organisation for distributing those vaccines (link). BJ warned the EU yesterday that
“pharmaceutical giants would take their business to Britain after the European Commission set out plans to ban vaccine exports to countries with higher vaccination rates than the EU [and that] a vaccine trade war would result in “considerable” and “long-term” economic damage as Brussels made clear […] that the tougher regime was aimed at Britain.” (paywalled link)
Yes, it’s about punishing Brexit Britain, especially since our mass jabbings have far outstripped those in the EU. This clearly cannot be permitted! Bureaucratic incompetence from Brussels down to member states, smearing of the AZ vaccine making EU citizens reluctant to get that jab: that has nothing to do with it!
I leave you with news that the covid politburo is considering putting France on their ‘Red List’ of countries from and to which travel is banned – despite ‘very serious disruptions to food and medicine imports’ (link, paywalled). It’s to ‘save us’ from those mutants which are creating that 3rd wave from which Whitty wants to preserve us, pressurising BJ to ‘close the border’.
I can’t help but wonder yet again if the whole covid empire, from BJ and Whitty all the way down, is suffering from pronounced covid madness. Brussels certainly seems to suffer from it. But hey – what else is new! It’s another covid groundhog day after all, isn’t it!
KBO!
If only saving his skin offered any hope. Derek’s word resign, probably would not save BJ’s skin at the moment. Sacking Hancock, Sage etc. might. I think there are still a very few slightly useful people in that Party but they need someone or something to get them into gear.
I looked it up, (Googled, Wikipedia). Groundhogs are a kind of squirrel. I’m sure Viv knew that. They are larger than either the red or grey squirrel here in Britain.
I still think they are all rather endearing creatures.
UNLIKE OUR POWERS THAT BE !!
And their brains have evolved to predict the weather. Isn’t evolution amazing!
JF
… Berlin directed “” a crack unit from Italy’s military security police”” to raid a private AZ plant in Italy – an unspeakable, sinister litmus … my grandfather detects Axis … my grandmother refers to jackboot memories.
Wasn’t Mussolini already dead before he was hung from a lampost? And Hitler killed himself in his bunker.
As always Viv a very accurate appraisal of where we are with the EU. I suppose we have to just grin and bear it and accept their petulant behaviour for a bit longer.
Probably the most annoying and frustrating part in all this is due to our own government that seems unable to do anything of value other than continue to detain us in our own homes.
Since the public health emergency of last March ended in May we have been living with a political virus that has required a political vaccine to try and cover up all the lies and propaganda dished out by this hapless government.
If parliament today agrees to another six months of restrictions then we will know there is nothing left but civil disobedience.
Parliament in voting for the Coronavirus 2020 Act last March abdicated its responsibilities to hold the Executive to account. It now seems lightly that despite the protestations of the Chairman of the 1922 Committee a small rebellion will be simply a gesture and that’s all.
We can only watch as more businesses go bust and the national debt reaches new heights of madness.
Agree Geoffrey. Civil disobedience is the only answer.
It depends on one’s circumstances and where they live what anyone is able and willing to do. I frequently break the 5 mile rule and have never even seen a covid snitch or copper. A friend is frequently monitored driving for food shopping.
The daily bad news parade! It’s a bit like that game ‘Whack a Mole’. You whack one and another pops up!
As for Boris ‘thinking very very deeply’….. for a supposedly ‘educated’ man he comes across as an extremely empty vessel. Which as we all know from our proverbs books means ‘they make the most noise’ to no great purpose!
There is a very good piece in The Conservative Woman today about PCR tests.
https://www.conservativewoman.co.uk/the-many-scandals-of-the-pcr-test-part-1/
Sorry it was yesterday! Part II still to come!
Whack a mole Frederica? I’m not what I call sloppy sentimental about animals, wildlife, etc. It’s just that I want to whack TPTB, In real life, rather than play games!
I think Boris is sinking fast into some kind of dementia. He seems to make more gaffes now than even Biden.
Johnson, Hancock et al should be thinking very deeply on the correct spelling of “RESIGN” and make sure the papers are submitted as soon as possible. We have had enough thinking by politicians and by unelected members of quangoes such as SAGE and NERVTAG. Let’s now have some common sense and realism applied by someone with a backbone.
According to John Redwood today, MP’s are being urged to seek their constituent’s views on Immigration Policy. I’m waiting with bated breath (not) for mine to consult me!
Meanwhile, I’ve received my poll card for May elections. Only Tory and Green, through door.
So I went to Ukip’s website. Hopeless! Well there is a 2020 Manifesto, it’s too ambitious and too detailed for general consumption, also rather dated.
I came away not knowing:- who is the leader, who is the chairman, who decides policy, do members contribute, is there a branch structure left now, will they be standing any candidates anywhere, ever again!
RESIGN is the right word for the present incumbents but what else is there?
Pauline. NOTA.
None of the above. Yes Viv did once tell us how to vote for that and it be counted rather than just ‘spoiled’.
Hi Pauline, Neil Hamilton is UKIP Leader and Pat Mountain is the Chairman. They are fielding as many candidates as possible, as well as paper candidates to garner as much attention as possible. It is hoped they will gain some seats around the country and the Welsh Assembly which definitely needs to be cleaned out. If you sign up for emails (you can always cancel any time) you will get the latest information for your area.
Lisa, I think you will find the chairman of UKIP is Ben Walker.
O.K. I’ll try again but as I remember it was not on offer.
Pauline…why are you still harking on about UKIP. The party is finished in more ways than one. It was finished off by a succession of woeful leaders. The party structure has fallen apart if my county is anything to go by. There were 17 branches 2 years ago and now there is perhaps only three left. Without a structure of activists, no party whether it be UKIP or anything other, doesn’t stand a hope in hell without a core of activists at its disposal. I know some people who have stuck with the UKIP locally, but they are the members who never stood on a branch committee, never stood as a candidate at an election, and never helped out. No political party worth its salt can exist with inactive party members alone. The party’s headquarters in Newton Abbot has closed and the party now operates from an address in Bristol somewhere and and as far as I am aware it no longer has any staff, and from what I have been told the current membership stands at a little over 1000 members. The leader is Neil Hamilton, who happens to be the best leader the party has had for a very long time, but the party isn’t going anywhere, and never will now. It needed to have rebranded a few years back to stand any chance at all, but chickened out of it and now its too late. Most Kippers moved to The Brexit Party which has rebranded to Reform UK, but since Nigel Farage stepped down as leader, even that party seems to have become irrelevant as well. The Heritage Party or Reclaim will probably be your best bet, but setting up and establishing a national political party takes time, a bloody long time to do from scratch. The best route forward is for several like minded individuals to set up a local Independent Party, and that is what some of us have done local to where I live, and so far we have received a good response at the doorstep in the local elections campaign. It is a lot of hard work, and one has to be dedicated to the cause. There is no room for passengers.
Colin. I thought I’d made it clear several times:-
Voting in the local election in May is the only way to give the Westminster Government a kick up the a*se.
I will not vote lib/lab/.green/con, on principle.
Only Con and Green have leafleted.
Therefor I’m searching for info, whether anyone else is standing!
I’ve also explained before why I am only a ‘passenger’. But you obviously do not look back for answers so I’m wasting my breath (time) again.
The passenger reference was not directed specifically at you, as one, I don’t know you, two, I don’t know what your previous relationship has been with any political party, and three, it wouldn’t be fair to comment. However there were always lots of passengers in UKIP who did little to help the cause over the years, and still are by the sounds of it, going by what’s happening local to where I live. The whole point to any political party is to gain representation on local councils, county councils, and in parliament. And if a party such as UKIP are not doing this, then they wasting their time. On the 5th April 2021 (I think it is), your local authority will make a public announcement as to who and what parties are standing in your neck of the woods, the day after the nomination period closes. Apart from that you’re right, the only way to give Johnson and his government a kick up the behind is at the local elections.
BoJo “thinking deeply”
Of course he is; how to save his own miserable skin.
