“After the War”: our soldiers will be trained by Ukrainians, or so sez Ben Wallace, Defence Secretary …

The polling stations for the local elections are open. Results will start coming in after midnight. Our MSM are reasonably reticent with political news so as not to influence us peasants. That’s why the usual compilation is a bit meagre, and that’s probably why the BBC has put The Sun at the top of today’s compilation (link).

That … paper is leading with the earth-shattering ‘news’ that England’s football anthem ‘Three Lions’ is facing the axe as the country’s official World Cup song because FA bosses fear it might offend other nations. Words fail me spectacularly!

If you’re not quite sure who all is going to vote today, here’s a useful overview. I can report from my little patch that I’ve had only two (!) election leaflets through the door. One was from an independent candidate of whom nothing is known, the other was from Plaid Cymru. The ‘big’ Westminster parties didn’t bother. Never mind – it’ll be another Labour win in Red Cardiff, regardless of their disastrous policies. I’d be surprised if turnout here will be over 30%.

Meanwhile Ben Wallace, Minister of Defence, has delivered another example of his outstanding foolishness. I am quoting his remarks at length not only because of the staggering idiocy on display but also because Wallace states clearly that yes, “we” have been training Ukrainian troops. Firstly, see this ‘praise’ for those Ukrainian troops as reported in the DT:

“Ukrainian troops could be asked to train British soldiers after the war with Russia, Ben Wallace said on Wednesday. Lessons learned from hunting Russian tanks and aircraft with Western-supplied weapons would be valuable to Britain’s forces, according to the Defence Secretary. Speaking as he visited British troops on a military exercise in Finland, Mr Wallace said that “Ukrainian troops have a lot to teach us. Every day is a learning day for us and the Ukrainians. I think you could definitely foresee Ukrainian experience being used to teach our forces. It’s mutual training. Their use of how to fight in built-up areas, their use of electronic warfare, how to deploy anti-air, how they exploited Russian weakness – all of that is important to learn for us.” (paywalled link)

Ahem. Is Mr Wallace simply ignorant about what is happening in the Ukraine? Do his civil serpents not tell him about the ongoing losses of men and material thanks to Russian troops ‘hunting’ Ukrainian tanks and aircraft? As for our soldiers ‘learning how to fight in built-up areas’: I thought “we” knew this already and were teaching this to interested military from other countries? Or was that simply propaganda from our Special Forces?

I hope that Mr Wallace does not mean our soldiers should learn from the Ukrainian lot how to use human shields, how to place artillery and rocket launchers in schools and hospitals! I do hope that it wasn’t our ‘trainers’ who taught the Ukrainians to do that. I hope that our lot didn’t ‘train’ the Ukrainians how to shell and attack civilian targets with cluster bombs which is actually a war crime!

Next, Mr Wallace’s admission that “we” were indeed involved in military training missions in that country:

“He said that Operation Orbital, the British training mission inside Ukraine, was only “paused” and could resume one day. The training task, in place since Russia’s 2014 invasion of Ukraine, has provided support to about 22,000 of Kyiv’s troops.” (paywalled link)

Interesting. I had no idea that our lot was training Ukrainian troops since 2014. Were they training those neonazi battalions in how to shell civilian areas even then? Now it makes sense that ‘British citizens’ were told to leave that country in January this year. Perhaps some of them remained in place? Who knows – after all, we plebs weren’t told until now, and of course we cannot possibly believe the Russian reports about foreign military being present in the Ukraine!

Next, Mr Wallace stepped onto Miz Truss’ territory. He displayed an astonishing capacity for analysing foreign countries (not!), explaining to the NATO press that

“China has been “embarrassed” by Russia’s conduct, Mr Wallace said, and has watched with alarm Moscow’s “road to international isolationism. China probably doesn’t see it in its interest to join the gangster next door.” (paywalled link)

Of course, “we” don’t read Chinese papers because they’re ‘only propaganda’. Instead we rely on the Mr Wallaces of this government to explain what China does and never mind that they thus display a shameful ignorance.

By labelling Mr Putin ‘a gangster’, Ben Wallace demonstrates the same attitude which Patrick Lawrence describes as ‘Imperial Infantilism’ in his article where he looks at the ‘diplomacy’ employed by the USA (link). I recommend reading it! Rounding up the ‘Wallace performance’ is a fine example of projection:

“The Defence Secretary sounded a note of caution that, unlike the Soviet Union, there was “no Politburo, no checks and balances” on Putin’s behaviour. “Clearly, there are people in the system who will eventually realise that, [but] he controls the media so he could tell everyone tomorrow he’s won a stupendous victory,” he said.” (paywalled link)

Of course ‘our media’ are perfectly free and report everything correctly. They are in no way propaganda instruments, not even when they splash ‘news’ straight from Ukrainian sources across their pages – ‘news’ which they know are not independently verified. Thus “we” are kept in the dark about what the Russian military is reporting every day, detailing Ukrainian losses of military hardware and manpower.

These reports do not provide a good ‘selling point’ for the training our ‘military missionaries’ have provided. Neither are they a good reason for Ukrainians ‘teaching’ our lot ‘after the war’. And this is the man who aims to supplant Johnson? God help us!

Meanwhile the PM blithely plays around with a cabinet ‘reshuffle’, but only ‘after the Partygate scandal’ with the pending fines has been resolved, perhaps in June or July, as ‘sources’ told the Times (link, paywalled). That’s alright then – we can go on as we were.

I leave you with the news that the Tory High Command is quite happy not to parachute Lord Frost into that by-election now created thanks to the resignation of the ‘Porn MP’ (paywalled link). The Tories seem to be preparing for a spell on the opposition benches. That means they won’t have to deal with inflation, food shortages, energy shortages and all those niggly things which only afflict us peasants. After all, even on the opposition benches they’d still be inside that charmed Westminster circle

Is it time to prepare for the kneeler, Sir ‘Beer’ Starmer, entering  No 10? How I loathe having to live in ‘interesting times’!
