Killjoys …

 

I have sad news for you this morning. Checking out ‘Our MSM’ I’ve found items which show that the Westminster clique, the Westminster bubble dwellers, are so concerned with getting rid of Johnson, thus also discrediting all those who voted for him last December, that they clutch at anything, unquestioned. We common-sense Brits have yet another fight imposed on us by ‘them’!

Item #1: ‘Our MSM’ have decided it’s finally Open Season on Johnson. They choose photos showing him looking ‘defeated’, they write virtual reams of articles about how ‘confused’ and ‘confusing’ the guidance about lifting lockdown restrictions are – Johnson’s appeal to Brits to use common sense (link) is apparently unacceptable: we peasants outside the M25 cannot possibly have ‘common sense’.

What has happened to this country when, according to ‘Our MSM’ we Brits demand rulz and more rulz while the Germans – yes, them! – are ‘flouting rules’:

“Police intervened in several cities where thousands of people gathered to protest against the lockdown restrictions. In Cologne, protesters urged passers-by to take their facemasks off. In Stuttgart, more than 10,000 people gathered, waving banners such as “Stop The Corona Dictatorship” and “Merkel Must Go”.” (link, paywalled)

Here in the UK, in contrast, some busybodies deemed it totally unacceptable that people danced a conga in public, even though they were observing social distancing:

“NHS workers have issued a heartbreaking plea for Britons to follow lockdown rules, after criticising viral footage of a “socially-distanced conga line” dance on VE day. A grassroots NHS campaign group, NHS Million, tweeted that it was “heartbreaking to watch” the footage of the conga line when at least 200 NHS and care staff have lost their lives. The video of the conga line, captured by a BBC News reporter at a VE Day street party in Cheshire, sparked widespread condemnation online.” (link)

How dare anyone try and have fun when ‘at least 200 Heroes of Our NHS’ have died! Noticing the daily outbursts of vitriolic condemnation on social media I wonder if ‘Our MSM’ and ‘our great British Public’ are engaged in a dreadful campaign to enforce ‘good think’ on the rest of us. 

Item #2: ‘Our children’ have become a playball for Teachers’ Unions and disgruntled parents. We wrote about this yesterday, and, as might have been foreseen, today there are ‘articles’ of parents bewailing the fact that their kids don’t want to be taught and that ‘the poorest kids’ are becoming more disadvantaged (‘free tablet and smartphone for every kid’, yes?). This ‘fear’ is international, it seems. French teachers are as reluctant to go back to work as ours:

“Although 86 per cent of France’s primary schools will reopen this week, Mr Blanquer [education Minister] admitted that only about 1.5 million of their 6.7 million pupils would be present. This is partly because of new government safety guidelines, outlined in a 63-page booklet […] About half of teachers, who were meant to return yesterday to make preparations, had stayed at home because they or a member of their family had been deemed to be at risk of infection. At one Parisian primary school, for instance, only two out of 13 teachers reported for duty.” (link, paywalled)

Here, we’ll be lagging behind by two weeks – is government hoping for some indicators form France? – but the resistance is the same:

“Pupils returning to primary school in early June will be confined to classes of 15, compared with their usual 30, and prohibited from contact with other pupils and teachers. There will be no PPE for teachers or children. Health advisers say it is not necessary if they are with the same small group each day. They will, however, have access to immediate testing for Covid-19 if any show symptoms. Some parents have said they will not send their children back as it is not worth the risk. […] Unions have called for PPE to be provided as a first step and called a June 1 reopening reckless.” (link, paywalled)

Good grief! Have those Union bosses not considered that being taught by someone wearing PPE might mentally traumatise these kids? Has nobody told them that PPE is in short supply and needed for ‘Our NHS’? Surely they don’t want to kill off those heroic nurses and doctors!

One cannot help but suspect that being paid by taxpayers, here or in France, has a detrimental effect on willingness to work. One can also not help but suspect that in France, just as here in the UK, strict Lockdown rules have scared the people so much that they don’t dare to go out. It cannot be true that imposing hefty fines on ‘transgressors’ has had anything to do with that fear!

Item #3: there’s an intriguing split between tourist hotspot managers here in the UK and in France. Apparently, the quarantine rules for travellers won’t apply to those going to and coming back from France, which must be a relief for our Channel Border Force taxi service and those people traffickers:

“Downing Street has warned people against holidays abroad after ministers said that France was exempt from quarantine rules “at this stage”. […] On Sunday President Macron called the prime minister to discuss the measures. Britain and France subsequently released a joint statement saying that France would be exempt from quarantine for now and any measures would be “reciprocal”, with further discussions in coming weeks.” (link, paywalled)

Brits were immediately trying to secure their summer holidays in France – and why not when they read that tourism managers here don’t want them “because: CV-19”. The biscuit for xenophobia and racism however goes to a Scottish politician:

“Angus MacNeil, the Western Isles MP, called for police checks at the border to stop “people in England (who) think they can go everywhere” travelling to Scotland and spreading the coronavirus. He argued that ramped-up security would be “prudent” and noted that police already conduct checks among ferry passengers travelling to Scotland’s islands that their journeys are essential.” (link)

Perhaps someone could ask Mr Sunak why non-scottish taxpayers should support this type of racist xenophobia, shelling out for furloughs and business support in Scotland.

Item #4: “Teh Science”. I never thought I’d see an editorial with the title

“Boris Johnson is trying to blind us with science – The use of spurious equations can’t hide the fact that the No 10 message is increasingly muddled as consensus ebbs away” (link, paywalled)

The effrontery by this author – who, I’m sure, is not alone – to blame Johnson for following ‘Teh science’ is breath-taking. These are the same people who’ve thrown scientific concepts around like confetti, without any understanding whereof they spoke (“herd immunity bad!”), presenting themselves as instant epidemiologists and virologists, carefully never mentioning any actual scientific disagreement by doctors and scientists who were not toeing  the ‘CV-19 is killing us all’ party line and lambasting Johnson for not ‘following Teh Science’ sufficiently.

Now that author complains she didn’t, couldn’t, understand all those scientific terms – and that’s why the Lockdown consensus is ‘crumbling’. The extra cherry-picking by the rulers of the Celtic Fringe has obviously nothing to do with it:

“There are now different rules in England to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Andy Burnham, the Labour mayor of Greater Manchester, advised people not to “rush into” any significant changes, warning that they could create greater risk. Sir Keir Starmer, the Labour leader, told MPs yesterday that “what the country needs at this time is clarity and reassurance, and at the moment both are in short supply” (link, paywalled)

Isn’t it wonderful how ‘Our MSM’ are so graciously supporting Starmer rather than the government! Not that any of those authors has asked what Starmer would do instead. How well ‘Our MSM’ understand ‘Teh Science’ is demonstrated in another article, reporting that ‘our app’, developed by ‘Our NHS’, is actually so much better than the Google and Apple apps:

“Scientists from Oxford’s Big Data Institute (BDI), argued that the NHS approach meant it can send out alerts faster because its artificial intelligence system can diagnose symptoms people report in the app rather than waiting for a test.“ (link)

The app can ‘diagnose symptoms’? On the say-so of ‘people’? Without tests? Obviously, the time for ‘citizen diagnosticians’ has come! Anyone who has ever had the fortune to seek advice from a GP knows that, as a matter of course, they do not believe a word a patient tells them unless it’s proven by tests and more tests. How we survived medicine in the last century without tests and computers: it’s a mystery! And there’s now a new ‘snitches charter’, for ’citizen HSE specialists’:

“Workers should report their employers to the authorities if they fail to enforce social distancing guidelines, Boris Johnson said. […] The official guidance advises workers who are concerned about their employers’ safety practices to report them to the HSE or their local council.” (link, paywalled)

These guidelines and the snitching may well make some business owners think twice about the feasibility of opening up again under those conditions, with Trade Unions already puffing themselves up as ‘protectors of the workers’. Job losses? Ah – but ‘surviving CV-19’ is more important!

Finally – the trade talks between us and the EU have resumed, with predictable EU reactions.  “Germany is furious” because we’re not caving in (link) and dear Michel B has another tantrum (link), tsk tsk – the poor man!

The suspicion that Remainers of all colours are trying to get rid of Johnson “because: CV-19” while in reality they want to get rid of him “because: Brexit” is of course way off the mark! They never would, of course they wouldn’t – would they?

Have fun using your common sense and enjoy the icy sunshine but beware snitches and killjoys!
