Finger-pointing: the politician’s survival skill

Well – it’s official: vaccinated or not, people will still have to self-quarantine when coming into contact with a covid ‘infectee’. We said from the start of the ‘unveiling’ of BJ’s roadmap that by hook or by crook the covid empire would never give us back our freedom. We were right.

The ‘new normal’ will consist of more tests, more muzzle wearing, more ‘precautions’, more fear. And more jabs, of course. The DT has the ‘exclusive’ on this news item (paywalled link), but the DM copied from the DT early this morning (link). This quote shows what this is really about:

“Government sources say it is crucial that the contract tracing system stay in place because it is still possible for vaccinated people to pass on coronavirus.” (link)

Strange, isn’t it, that these sources, in their zeal to keep their hands on controlling us, don’t realise that they are totally undermining the whole vaccination strategy according to which ‘the jab makes you free’. I wonder what all those who’ve clutched at getting the jabs so they can finally go on summer holidays will have to say when, holidays over, they’re back to the same old controls and quarantines.

And so to the unedifying spectacle of a whole host of vested interests in Whitehall and the MSM, aimed at discrediting anything Cummings is alleged to come up with at tomorrow’s hearing. I hope the ‘Parliament Live’ TV channel will keep up with the public interest. Perhaps this last-minute mud-slinging by ‘sources’ in Whitehall, lapped up by the MSM, is meant to make people less interested and thus ‘save’ that TV channel from going down. Of course, it’s entirely possible that there will be a regrettable disruption in transmission anyway so that we plebs won’t be able to watch and hear what is being said. Yes, I’m afraid my trust in our institutions has sunk that low.

The Times, at the forefront of the war against Cummings, is reasonably restrained in their reporting, for example restricting themselves to this:

“Dominic Cummings is attempting to “rewrite history” and is a “rank hypocrite”, a government source has said ahead of his appearance before MPs tomorrow. Boris Johnson’s former chief adviser will criticise the prime minister for repeatedly delaying lockdowns and accuse the government of initially pursuing a policy of herd immunity.” (link, paywalled)

The DM, usually eager to copy from the DT, has instead copied The Times (link). Far more interesting is the spin given to the Cummings saga. In their article the DT drags in Gove. We read that Gove, a former ‘boss’ of Cummings at the Ministry of Education in the halcyon early days of the Cameron premiership, will allegedly come up smelling of roses, according to some Tory MPs:

“The mutual respect between the two is so strong that some Tory MPs are convinced Mr Cummings is plotting a sensational political comeback as part of a future Gove premiership. However unlikely that prospect might seem, it is a measure of the deep distrust of the two men by sections of the Conservative Party that some MPs believe they are conspiring to oust Boris Johnson and stage an imminent Downing Street coup.” (paywalled link)

It doesn’t seem to occur to those Tory MPs that we aren’t interested in their spin but want to know who, why and what got us into this whole lockdown misery.  Instead, we’re presented with this alleged ‘plot’, with the attempts to discredit both Cummings and Gove by insinuating that they were ‘responsible’ for lockdowns:

“Mr Gove’s political enemies have also accused him of being a drag anchor on the easing of restrictions by constantly arguing for the toughest, longest lockdown measures.” (paywalled link)

Surprisingly, SAGE’s Vallance is also fingered for being a lockdown instigator because, oh dear, he’s said to be ‘close to Gove’. Ahhh! Smearing by association is such a sweet thing! To round up this extraordinary spectacle of Tory MPs utilising the Cummings hearing for their ‘war against Gove’ (not that it’s a bad idea to get rid of that snake in the grass, but there’s a time for everything!), see this:

“Traditional Tory MPs who cherish liberty are appalled at the very idea and are already discussing what must be done to end the influence of the alleged Gove/Cummings nexus. As one backbencher said: “I was discussing this with a very senior person the other day, and they said: ‘No matter what happens, my sole purpose in political life is to stop Michael Gove.'” (paywalled link)

If you are incensed that the whole lockdown misery, the restrictions, the robbing of our liberties is now turned into a tawdry court drama where courtiers, a.k.a. Tory MPs, are vying for their chance to get rid of Gove, then join the club! Let’s see if tomorrow’s performance will finally show us that the whole thing was indeed a play for power rather than driven by care for us.

Interestingly, The Times gives this production of ‘Cummings the traitor, out for revenge, tries to re-write history’ a spin which allows us a glimpse into what a covid inquiry, if there ever will be one, is meant to achieve: the whitewash of SAGE. Already, we’re informed that SAGE didn’t want a lockdown, and that:

“The assumption among scientific advisers was that the pandemic could not be stopped. Chinese-style lockdowns might delay it, but Sage was “unanimous” that it would roar back as soon as restrictions were lifted. From this point of view, it made no sense to go through the costs of lockdown to push a summer peak into the winter, when the NHS was busier. Instead the plan was to use social distancing to slow infections. Natural immunity would then cause it to subside. If this was a “herd immunity strategy” it was because herd immunity was seen as an inevitability.” (link, paywalled)

I suggest that all the current feverish talk about ‘herd immunity’ is nothing but a giant squirrel. It deflects from the question why lockdowns were imposed. In a side note let me recall that at that time our esteemed MSM were heaving with outcries from their science and chief editors that ‘herd immunity’ was horrific, and that it was disgraceful to treat us people as if we were sheep. Sadly, the acceptance of muzzle-wearing and the rush to get ‘that’ jab sadly but clearly shows that we’ve become so easily sheepified because we actually were sheep all along.

Here’s another item documenting the spin already being started, aimed to make the SAGEs look as pure as the driven snow:

“Britain’s scientific advisers were disdainful of nations which locked down. On one level they turned out to be right: throughout the second half of 2020, no way was found of lifting restrictions without seeing cases rebound, and the winter peak was worse than the first. But the plan underestimated the virus. The expert advisers were relying on a plan based on flu and officials, including Cummings, had not challenged it until mid-March.” (link, paywalled)

I’m stunned! Why didn’t they tell us about their ‘disdain’ for lockdown at that time? Can we now expect criticism of lockdowns from ‘government scientific advisers’ and MSM ‘science’ editors? Mind, that would make them into belated lockdown sceptics, something they’ve lambasted until now.

Perhaps they’ve been closet lockdown deniers all the time and are now trying to come out with ‘we knew all along but were too scared to say so’? Perhaps the reason for their belated, surreptitious lockdown criticism is that they can now try and hide behind Cummings ‘the all powerful’, behind ‘Cummings made us do it’? Is this what we’re being nudged into thinking?

It won’t have escaped your attention that no mention at all is being made of SPI-B, of the role played in all this by those ‘behaviourists’ who drove the ‘fear&hysteria’ campaign in the MSM from the start. Is it too far-fetched to assume that the nudgers in government and in SPI-B are having their delicate fingers in these mud pies now thrown around with abandon? After all, if SAGE is innocent, if it’s all Cummings’ fault, then surely nobody can blame SPI-B for anything?

Do they, do all those ‘sources’ not get it: we don’t give a damn about their shenanigans, we despise their attempts of finger-pointing while trying to whitewash themselves! We want our freedom back, we want to be rid of the nudgers, the ‘fear’ campaigners, the control freaks in government! We’ve had enough of their lies, their blackmail, their broken promises.

In the end, this isn’t about Cummings, Gove, SAGE, BJ or Matt-the-Han. It’s not about who will come up smelling of roses – not one of them, in my opinion. It’s about getting rid of the whole edifice of fear and coercion. Brits are patient, but our patience is wearing out. Four more weeks …

KBO!
