it’s autumn, officially, so listen to the helpful Met Office 

 

We’re British, so we talk about the weather before we talk about anything else. Today is the start of the meteorological autumn which lasts until the 30th November. The Autumn Equinox on the 22nd of this month is the astronomical watershed between summer and autumn. Why are calendar dates rather than astronomical ones used to mark the seasons? The reason is interesting:

“Traditionally, astronomical seasons last between 89 and 93 days due to the elliptical shape of the Earth’s orbit around the sun, according to the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). This variability can make it difficult for experts to compare statistics from one year to another.” (link)

Some of us remember the times when we only had paper ‘papers’ which all printed weather charts, with isobars and little flags for wind speed and direction. Some of us remember that even the mighty BBC presented such charts for their weather forecasts. How much we’ve been dumbed down is nicely documented by the use of symbols rather than charts, leading to the current system of ‘amber weather warnings’ and Met Office ‘guidance’ to take a brolly or to stay in the shade and drink lots of water.

What is the reason for the ever more prevalent use of meteorological rather than astronomical dates to mark the changing seasons? See this:

“By following the civil calendar and having less variation in season length and season start, it becomes much easier to calculate seasonal statistics from the monthly statistics, both of which are very useful for agriculture, commerce and a variety of other purposes,” NCEI said.” (link)

Indeed – and this usage became extremely useful when ‘climate change’ needed to be hammered home into the brains of us peasants, when every weather event was and is labelled as ‘proof’ for yon ‘climate extreme crisis’. To prepare us for all those ‘weather events’, yesterday the Met Office:

“[…] shared its choice of 21 names for the tempests to come with a selection compiled from public submissions.The Met Office has run the Name Our Storms campaign annually since 2015 to raise awareness of severe weather before it hits.” (link)

Yes, dear readers – there will be ‘severe weather’, there will be storms. That sort of weather has never happened before, so be grateful to the Met Office to raise our awareness now so that we can be prepared. Do invest in brollies, wellies and macs before they become too expensive! Do not ask why “we” should be concerned when most people will WFH and not set foot outside. 

As for ‘other’ news – gah. The compilation in the usual place (link) is dispiriting. Not even the headline in the Star made me chuckle. I had to delve into the morass of ‘news items’ presented in the online editions and picked out items which are sad, unnoticed by our valiant MSM.

Here’s the first one. The DM, as always, does good service by summarising their whole report in their headline:

“REVEALED – the scale of family breakdown in modern Britain laid bare: Half of children live across more than one household and a quarter of families are headed by a lone parent (and 90 PER CENT are women), shocking new figures show” (link)

But isn’t this exactly what lefty campaigners have been trying to achieve for decades – the demise of the terrible ‘nuclear family’? Didn’t feminists decalre that being a ‘traditional mom’ was heinous, and that moreover it was perfectly fine to have and raise kids without a father? The Times has more, rather shocking details, firstly writing that

“Forty-four per cent of those born in 2000 will have spent some of their childhood up to age 17 outside a traditional “nuclear” family, compared with 21 per cent of people born in 1970.” (link, paywalled)

They also provide their readers with a collection of nice graph, showing the percentages of ‘lone’ v ‘traditional’ families according to ethnicity. Unsurprisingly, ‘Asian or Asian-British’ families top the chart, with over 80% living in ‘traditional families’. ‘Black Carribeans’ with 26% and ‘mixed White and Black Carribeans’ with 23% are at the bottom. Well, that should make us all proud, for being so non-traditional and non-racist, shouldn’t it. 

Being uber-cynical, I suggest the next sad news item ought to make all those lone white wimmin of child-bearing age happy – those who despise white males and who despise the ‘patriarchy’ and traditional families but want to ‘fulfil’ their ‘role as woman’ by having a child anyway:

“More migrants crossed the Channel this August than during the whole of 2020, according to Ministry of Defence figures. A total of 8,613 migrants reached the UK in small boats this month, almost 200 more than the annual tally two years ago when the number crossing plummeted during the pandemic. That brought the total for this year to more than 25,000, which is more than double 2021’s tally and a figure that last year was not reached until November.” (link, paywalled)

I’m not even going to ask why it’s the MoD and not the Home Office providing these data. I’m not going to speculate how much the internal war of Home Office mandarins against Ms Patel has contributed to this scandal. The mandarins must look forward so much to being given a nice, easily domesticated new minister once La Truss has got her feet under the table in No 10.

Perhaps she might ponder why people will become angry when they realise that they’re paying for heating and eating, without government doing eff all about it while those invaders are nicely housed, kept warm, and fed, all paid for by us peasants. 

I leave you with one more sad news item, a report in the DT. All  we need to know is in the headline:

“PM’s new German-made car means end of the road for ‘buy British’ tradition – No homemade alternative to current fleet of Jaguars means the UK’s leader will be driven around in an Audi A8” (paywalled link)

I wonder if Putin is responsible for this decline. After all, everything is his fault and if it weren’t for that war, surely the Royal Navy would have been able to stop the dinghy-invaders! The Met Office is already on track, having used the label ‘Beast from the East’ for certain winter weather conditions (link). I’m sure they’ll be capable of declaring that such events are due to Putin ‘weaponising’ the weather, just as he has ‘weaponised’ everything else which our benighted government can’t cope with.

As for me: I blame everything on the Westminster cabal, on this incestuous construct of vested interests, the MSM, politicians and mandarins. And that includes the weather …
