One more day and it’ll all be over, done and dusted: the 2nd covid year 2021, that is. The end of a year is always an opportunity for the MSM to splash out on ‘year-end-reviews’, ‘iconic photos’ and ‘significant events’. They never look back a bit further into the past though and they never compare the ‘then’ with the ‘now’ if such comparison throws an unfavourable light onto the present.
So let me help them out. Casting my mind back to the pre-covid winters five, four and even just three years ago I recall the annual reports of NHS hospitals full of people with flu and pneumonia, adorned with photos of unfortunate people lying on trolleys in corridors. The PM didn’t exhort people in daily PR stunts to cut down their contacts and stay at home.
The NHS, ‘overwhelmed’ punctually at that time of year, only wailed about needing ‘moar money’, with added Labour screeches about ‘Toreee cuts’. Nobody, from top doctors down to politicians, demanded lockdowns, tests, self- isolation to ‘save the NHS’. Nobody blamed people who caught the flu for not having had a flu jab – such jabs were only given to the elderly and ‘vulnerable’. The rest of the people were supposed to just get on with it.
Remember the annual sniffles and colds! Exasperated GPs – yes, they actually did see sniffling and coughing patients in those days! – told people not to bother asking for antibiotics because it’s a virus, not a bacterium, that a couple of days at home with Lemsip or a hot toddy would do the trick. Remember equally exasperated pharmacists telling their customers that one could indeed catch ‘a cold’ several times a winter because there were over 200 corona viruses producing those colds.
There were no ‘health nudgers’ demanding venues be closed because people could catch an infection on the football terraces, in cinemas, in nightclubs and pubs. Catching a cold was a fact of winter life, so one just got on with it and went to ‘winter wonderland’ theme parks. Cancelling New Year’s Eve? That was simply unimaginable! If you were ill you didn’t go, tough!
Those were the days … and look at us now! The fringe dictators’ diktat forbidding New Year’s Eve displays and parties means that hordes of border-dwelling Celts will invade English pubs. And while Johnson pushed his booster campaign even further, claiming that 90% of covid patients in ICU didn’t have yon booster (paywalled link) he told people that they ought to take a test before going out (link, paywalled).
The snag is – there are no tests to be had (link)! Javid said there was no ‘quick fix’ for this, even as “officials [were] warning that the system will be overwhelmed within days” (paywalled link). Which ‘system’ are they talking about? Furthermore, we’re informed that “on Wednesday, Mr Javid, the Health Secretary, privately admitted that there was a worldwide shortage of tests.” – oh dear! So ‘officials’ must have known that such test kit shortage was developing even as Johnson blithely peddled testing as the ‘pass to freedom’. Never mind – it gets worse:
“The Government’s new policy of allowing people who test positive to stop self-isolating after seven days if they have two negative tests has created a surge in demand for tests – but capacity has not significantly increased.” (paywalled link)
Who could possibly have foreseen that telling people to test might lead to a rise in demand of said tests! But that’s not all. On the one hand, “business leaders have warned of an effective New Year lockdown as workers unable to get tested are forced to stay at home.” (paywalled link) while on the other hand the Test & Trace tsars at UKHSA had to do a shameful climb-down:
“The Telegraph revealed on Tuesday that people testing positive for Covid were being told to self-isolate for 10 days, in apparent contravention of a change in the guidance by Sajid Javid, the Health Secretary, last week.” (link, paywalled).
What shambles! Are the covid tsars not even able to sing from the same hymn sheet any longer? Are some perhaps secretly preparing the way for the lockdown next year they clearly crave? We’re told that this was ‘only’ an error on the official website, see – now corrected. Phew.
However, even a seven-day instead of a ten-day spell of self-isolation after a positive test means that our precious Sacred Cow will be overwhelmed because so many NHS staff – nearly 19,000 in England – are in quarantine. The covid propagandists write that Johnson is ‘standing firm’ against a sudden anti-quarantine coalition. He is
“[..] resisting calls from scientists, health professionals and Tory MPs to stave off an NHS staffing crisis by cutting the coronavirus self-isolation period to five days.” (link, paywalled).
Now there’s a turn-up for the books: ten-seven- five days – who offers three days? What about no test – no quarantine? Moreover, we read that suddenly:
“Health service chiefs warned that staff absences caused by the requirement to isolate for seven days after a positive test risked causing a bigger problem than the number of Covid-19 patients being admitted to hospitals.” (link, paywalled)
Oh really! These are the same ‘chiefs’ who fell over themselves, crying for blanket tests and quarantines so as not to ‘overwhelm’ you-know-what. The call by this latest anti-quarantine coalition, to cut quarantine to five days hasn’t changed Johnson’s mind. But here’s the conundrum – read this carefully:
“But if nearly a million self-isolating people cannot get swabs, they can’t leave house arrest after seven days. Shops, hospitals, schools, supply chains and trains are already at risk of grinding to a juddering halt in so-called Pingdemic Mk II. The lack of tests will turn a crisis into a disaster. […] Confining the healthy to their homes needlessly will hamper the economy and society – and our attempts to rebuild this Covid-battered country.” (link)
If the lack of tests is damaging to NHS and businesses then why would a shortening of that period from seven to five days matter? Tests would still be demanded, correct? If five days are now acceptable, to save NHS and businesses, is covid becoming less terrible within two piddling days?
Will self-isolating people be told to go back to work and ‘just be careful’, as the New Year’s Eve revellers were being told by Johnson? Then why have tests at all? To fill the coffers of the test manufacturers who need a slice of the covid pie, just as Big Pharma has? Or is this a devious attempt by the SAGEs and other assorted covid-pushers to ‘create’ the conditions for another lockdown, spitefully hoping that all those ‘cases’ might turn up in hospital in the New Year?
It couldn’t be, could it, that covid is no longer the deadly plague we must all fear! Perish the thought that it has evolved into something akin to the usual winter sniffles for which formerly nobody was tested and no vulnerable patients were left untreated at home, to be carted to hospitals and put on ventilators.
No vaccines were suddenly developed, the nation was not exhorted to get jabbed again and again. No tests were suddenly demanded as ‘proof of health’ and no GP would have given tests to people who were not ill. We were told that there was no cure for the common cold and that we should just get on with it.
Surely we’ve now learned, after two covid years, that following government covid advice has become detrimental to our well-being. Perhaps we’ve now also learned that actually, despite those covid smoke and mirrors, we can rely on our common sense and don’t need to wait for government to tell us which way to put on our shoes.
If we’re permitted to go out without daily tests because there aren’t any, provided we’re ‘careful’, then surely, after two covid years, the whole covid house-of-cards is now falling down before our eyes.
The Government doesn’t even get things right once every 12 hours, like the old clock in the picture. Well not right for us. But that’s not their intention.
The referendun surprised them, Covid started by pleasing them. then it confused them Then it angered them. Omicron has frightened them.. The wise course is to remain schtum, But they are trapped.. Look out for an error, confusion, anda new course of action. BUT we will not be allowed to settle nd relax.
Oh what a tangled web we weave/When first we practice to deceive. Ironic with the lunacy of Sturgeon that the quote actually comes from a Scottish poet Sir Walter Scott. Its a beautifully expressed aphorism that uses just a few words to describe one life experience so perfectly, and is so true, that it enters into the English language and becomes one of its most powerful idioms – one that will last forever.
Unfortunately, no-one reads Scott anymore. Some of his other lines should have made it into the everyday language but haven’t. Let’s hope such lines as ‘look back and smile on perils past, will actually become as famous after the last two years shenanigans.
I UNDERSTAND THAT, Sir was not a Granny. However his quote is up there with the best, so he has been promoted to ‘ grannies sayings ‘.
As you say no-one reads Scott any more, but I did in the past.
And it wasn’t just because I was evacuated to Ashby de la Zouche during the war and actually had my lessons in the Manor House in Ashby castle grounds.
I went on to marry a Scots girl and stayed 20 years in Scotland
I started reading Heart of Midlothian which centred on a period of history of the Royal Mile, where I used to rep my wife’s gift products. I thoroughly enjoyed it, although my wife (same Scottish girl) advised that if you find Scott a bit tough going, try starting at chapter 10 and go back and catch up the beginning on completion. (Funny there’s a few TV programs where the beginnings await catch up)
Anyway I knew nothing of Scott as a poet until just recently reading a book “How the Scots invented the Modern World” a text book written by an American author Arthur Herman in which he includes a long section on Scott’s contribution to the Enlightenment.
An absolutely fascinating read which for me,introduced me to the interweaving of Philosophy, the Law, economics, Religion, particularly Scottish Protestantism and the American Independence revolt and the writing of the constitution.
Oh my Mother used to reel off yards of “Marmion” – wish she hadn’t
Thank you Roger Turner at 3.58pm. Your comment about ‘Marmion’ led me into a brief look at 16th century Scottish history. So – James 6th of Scotland, (1st of England) was the illegitimate son of James 5th and was brought up as a protestant.
He became the first protestant king of Scotland, largely because Scotland was otherwise faced with being ruled by Catholic France, or Catholic England (under Henry’s elder daughter Mary)!
In Scotland’s case it was Politics caused the wars, not the Religions.
It’s also noticeable that technology of the time – printing, played a large part in getting the educated amongst the people to follow the State’s lead.
And what’s more the Scottish Nation rapidly caught up with it’s wealthier neighbour England.
James 1st was not happy though, with the idea that a king ruled by authority given him from below. He started the idea of the Divine Right of Kings which was part of the reason why our Charles 1st lost his crown, along with his head!
Statistics works for statisticians Politics works for its practitioners. Medicine works on most, in fact medicine is based on ‘ if it works ‘. There are always dangers in claiming the high ground,. and lots of other grannies sayings. But, ..Absolutely … Trouble is, At the top of everything is rarely a suitable one. Trouble, also is, Boris appears to be a a pretty nearly perfect politician…
TG Spokes……..sorry did you have too much to drink this morning, thinking perhaps today is New Years Eve. You say ‘Boris Johnson appears to be a pretty nearly perfect politician’ I am utterly speechless, have you taken leave of your senses man. Boris Johnson who is obviously a saint in your eyes, is an utter utter clown, muppet and buffoon of the highest order. He literally couldn’t arrange p**s a up in a Scottish Distillery, and has absolutely no man management skills whatsoever. His only claim to fame was getting us out of the European Union, but even that was a total fudge. You only have to look at the Northern Ireland protocol where that part of Great Britain is treated differently to the rest of the country in respect of the single market and customs arrangements. What sort of a prime minister is it that allows a foreign entity which the EU is, to annexe or hive off part of the country to which HE supposedly rules over. Then you have to look at our very very porous borders where he does next to nothing in stemming the flow of illegal migrants across the English Channel, whilst offering a home to the 5 million residents of Hong Kong. Then you have to look at how he has completely stitched up our own fishermen and issued more licences to French fishing vessels in order to placate the French government. Weak, weak, weak, is my take on it all. And if that wasn’t bad enough, he has done his level best to trash our civil liberties and freedoms in the name of a virus that has still only affected a small proportion of the country’s total population. The best thing that can happen in the New Year is for Johnson to step down as prime minister of this great country, and allow someone with a bit of common sense, gumption and political backbone and conviction to take over forthwith. If he finally realises that he doesn’t cut the mustard in any way shape or form as the holder of high office, and resigns, he may just recover a smidgen of respect from the British people.
Colin you’ve left something out in your list of how Boris Johnson has trashed the country he is supposed to be leading.
I mean his idiotic carbon neutral crusade.
Having almost got us out of rule from Brussels, he is now hell bent on our being ruled from the United Nations.
Pauline, yes of course that as well. However, I didn’t want to make it look as if I was delivering a sermon. How anyone especially on this site can have the front to say that Johnson is a pretty nearly perfect politician is totally beyond me. Its laughable, a line that might have been said on Fawlty Towers, though Johnson wasn’t around in the 1970’s. Lucky them is all I can say..
I do not regard politics as a proper occupation for grown persons., and have repeatedly rejected it, whiles’t reserving the right to comment.
“If we’re permitted to go out without daily tests because there aren’t any, provided we’re ‘careful’, then surely, after two covid years, the whole covid house-of-cards is now falling down before our eyes.”
And there you have it. Unfortunately the brainwashed are now going to need psychological help without having to pay for it. Will the worms turn? We shall have to see.
If the covid house-of-cards is falling down before our eyes then we should at least see some real first class theatre as the cast of Covid players position themselves for Act 2 when intrigue intensifies, blood is spilled, careers whirl out of control, academics are thrown to the dogs and King Doris loses his crown.
Lisa. I think the Covid House of Cards is falling down. It was founded on very shaky ground from the start and the unavailability of tests could well be the push that knocks it down.
Hopefully the British still have enough sense of humour to say, well I couldn’t test, so I don’t know that I’m ill, so I’m going anyway.
I hate to say anything in B.J.’s favour but at last he is doing a bit better on covid than Scots, Welsh and mainland Europe.
Shame he is hell bent on the Climate Change scam instead.
He has got to go!
Another throw back. But as I have remarked before: the difference between a conspiracy theory (or malign hoax in this case) and the truth is just a matter of time.
If you remember, there was that smell-a-rat-sounding first Covid omicron death (conveniently) of an UNVACCINATED old person in a Northamptonshire Hosp (conveniently unspecified), that the MSM leapt upon. Except… Oh No There Wasn’t! Well it is panto season.
Northamptonshire NHS responded they had not recorded a single omicron-related death. But for some reason the MSM never verified the original claim and then managed to ‘miss’ the exposure of the falsehood.
Reminds one of the old USSR; In Pravda (Truth) there is no news and in News (Isvestia) there is no truth.
There is not much more here, but language warning again, if you want to watch it.

What a bummer – if we don’t listen/read the news we are told we are not informed; and if we do listen/read the news we are misinformed!
Brief throw back to a couple of days ago, for anyone who received the SPAM NHS/Government propaganda text.
If you would like to make a futile gesture but get it off your chest and feel better, there is an Ofcom service where you can report SPAM: simply dial 7726.
Select forward message. Add a heading ‘SPAM’ and a comment if you wish. Then send to 7726. You will receive a thank you txt and request for the source number. Of course that is hidden, so you could reply number inaccessible or NHSbooster.
Here’s the link from WeGotAProblem. The language is coarse, but that’s his style, and the number is above, so don’t need to watch it. https://www.bitchute.com/video/spy0MzQ9WP4/
I had that number on my phone but didn’t think of it Phil O. Will definitely do this if it happens again thanks for the reminder.
