Don’t look at Labour – look at these beautiful shiny objects!

Christmas is coming, so our wonderful MSM have produced a collection of shiny baubles for us plebs to go ‘aaahhh’ and point our fingers at while horrific news are sidelined. After all, who wants to see yon former PM on the front pages when they can give us ‘The H & M Show’! It is noteworthy though that the broadsheets are again showing restraint, as if to underline that Middle England doesn’t need the ‘Royal Circus’ like we peasants do. You can check it out at the usual place (link).

The actual news the MSM are trying to play down is the ‘Report’ which Gordon Brown has been working on. Of course, “we” were all celebrating footie yesterday, or so the MSM chief editors enticed us to do. Thus, not much was reported of Brown’s plan, except that he wants to abolish the HoL. Katy Balls writes in the Speccie:

“The report – A New Britain – is written by Gordon Brown and has been over two years in the making, with the former prime minister set to present it alongside the Labour leader in Leeds later this morning. Given the party currently enjoys a 20-point lead over the Tories, it’s safe to say the plans will receive plenty of attention and scrutiny.” (paywalled link)

This ‘reform’ and the abolishment of the HoL has been something Labour has wanted to do ‘like forever’. The cartoon in The Times this morning says it all. Apparently though (my emphasis):

Starmer has suggested he may not be able to abolish the House of Lords until Labour wins a second term in government, as he prioritises spreading power and economic growth across Britain. While he remains committed to the overhaul and replacing peers with an elected chamber, the Labour leader yesterday acknowledged that questions over timing and implementation were still to be discussed.” (link, paywalled)

Well – you’ve now been warned: Starmer and his Labourites believe they will have ten years to finally implement Blair’s plan of destroying our country. From more devolution to dismantling our constitution it’s all there:

“Speaking to The Sunday Times, Starmer said the review would build on Tony Blair’s devolution reforms after 1997 and end Britain’s status as the “most centralised country in Europe”, which he argues has held the country back both economically and politically. He will seek to give meaning to the concept of “levelling up” by putting “resource and decision-making much, much closer to communities”.” (link, paywalled)

What such ‘devolution reform’ looks like in real life can be studied in Wales where Labour has been ‘governing’ ever since devolution and where ‘decision-making much closer to communities’ is exemplified by the state of Cardiff, with a Labour council ‘in power’ for decades. Not mentioned is the effect of Blair’s ‘rub Tory noses in’ of mass invasion by illegal and semi-legal migrants on the fabric of our society.

There’s more in Gord’s plan though, now coming out in dribs and drabs. For example, the Sacred Cow is one of the top items. It has been Labour’s main theme for decades, that the Tories want to or are destroying the NHS. Firstly, there’s the report in The Times under the headline “Millions of patients turned away from NHS GP appointments, Labour finds” which provides a suitable background for Gord’s ‘Reform plan’. It is a perfect example of how to re-write history (my emphasis):

“Five million patients were unable to book a GP appointment when they tried to make one in October, analysis has suggested. […] Another two million people faced a wait of more than a month to see their doctor, the highest number since the records began, in 2017, and 4.3 million waited for more than a fortnight. […] The Labour Party, which provided the analysis, is pushing to abolish tax breaks for non-doms and use the revenue to train a new generation of doctors and nurses.” (link, paywalled)

Clearly, Blair’s ‘reform’ of GP working practices and how they’re paid, leading to mostly female GPs now mostly working half time “because: work-life-balance!” has nothing to do with this. The covid lockdown policies which Labour supported to the hilt have nothing to do with this. But that’s not sufficient. This, remember, is a report on constitutional change which Labour wants to implement. So now see this (my emphasis)

“Free access to the NHS would be made a US-style constitutional right under proposals championed by Sir Keir Starmer. The Labour leader has unveiled a new plan to outlaw reform of the service towards a European-style health insurance model. The proposals are contained in a report drawn up by Gordon Brown, the former prime minister, which calls for radical constitutional change. It says the NHS needs to be permanently protected from the “hostile” Tories who have put access to free healthcare “under threat”. “ (paywalled link)

No, don’t ask how making ‘free access to the NHS a constitutional right’ would help lower waiting lists and GP access! Don’t even mention the impact of mass migration on the infrastructure, NHS included. I’m sure scrapping non-dom tax relief would help: moar money to train doctors and nurses, to become ‘available’ in three or seven years’ time! Meanwhile, there are always more taxes, better stealth taxes, and forget strangling the economy. There’s more (my emphasis)

“The blueprint says four “basic rights” should be given a special legal status meaning they cannot be repealed by future governments.” Doing so would create a new written constitution for the UK for the first time, modelled on those used in countries like the US and France. Free and universal access to the NHS, schools and the welfare state would be protected alongside a new right to “decent” housing.”(paywalled link)

This is what Starmer, what Labour mean when they say, according to the sub-headline gracing yon report, that “Current government has been seeking to legislate to restrict civil and political rights, […]” So forget about Free Speech then – that is clearly not a ‘civil and political right’ Labour wants anchored in their fabulous constitution!

As for that proposed scrapping of the HoL – allegedly borne of the desire to prevent both Johnson and Truss to ‘flood’ the august institution with more political cronies – well, it’s always the stance of Labour and lefties to accuse opponents of what they themselves do and did, under the motto ‘it’s alright when we do it’.

I’m sure we’ve not all forgotten yet how Blair and Gord swamped the HoL with their cronies after their disastrous attempt at ‘reform’ which gave us the reduction of hereditary lords to 100 while the rest of this bloated ‘day care centre for octogenarian politicians’ swelled to over 800 ‘lords and ladies’, mostly Lib and Lab cronies.

While the MSM want us peasants to gawp exclusively at the H & M show, behind our backs Labour is aiming to dismantle our nation, root and branch, making it into lots of little Labour fiefdoms. I’m stunned that the Westminster commentariat seems so extremely relaxed about this proposal. Then again – they believe they’re part of Labour’s modern-day nomenklatura, so why should they be concerned.

Perhaps looking at shiny baubles and going ‘aaaahhh’ is a valid attitude, given that we peasants have been deprived of having our say ever since that referendum vote in 2016. It’s certainly better for one’s health and for the survival of the remaining mugs in one’s cupboard.
