The government ‘dream’ … but we’re not sheep and neither Whitehall nor the MSM are remotely like collies!
Top ‘news’ this morning is a poll result – a YouGov poll, natch, which shows Labour 33 points ahead of the Tories: Starmer 54%, Truss 21%. You can see the front pages with those headlines in the usual place (link). It’s amazing, isn’t it, what a week of concerted MSM outcry can achieve, especially when supported by ‘nice pictures’ and ‘good news’ from the Labour Conference, although I don’t know what’s ‘good’ about announcing that taxes must rise, that tax cuts are ‘immoral’. I’m sure this will get worse because Truss is planning to go ahead with welfare cuts. I can already hear the cries of ‘toree cuts’!
Here’s a puzzle: why is it that all those expert correspondents in our MSM are incapable of explaining economic facts of life to their readers? After all, they managed perfectly well during covid, didn’t they! On the other hand, might it be possible that all those ‘senior sources’ in Whitehall are now overtly pushing an agenda of ‘regime change’?
Can it have been purely coincidental that the Johnson regime was plagued from the beginning with Whitehall obstruction? There’s the case of Ms Patel whose initiatives regarding illegal migrants always fizzled out because ‘nothing could be done’. In contrast, there are the coin years, with SAGE and lockdowns and the whole misery, with government grants provided to the MSM to push ‘the narrative’.
Could it be that this poll result documents the fruits of years of propaganda, driving the people into the direction wanted by well-connected figures in the Whitehall and Westminster swamp, by those who are more concerned of keeping their wealth, often accrued thanks to taxpayers’ largesse?
It is rather extraordinary to note how, ever since Johnson, MSM articles are mentioning ‘warnings’ which some anonymous, high-placed ‘sources’ gave to their ministers. There were for example those ‘warnings’ which accompanied the whole miserable period of the Brexit ‘negotiations’. How then did it happen that in the EU Parliament elections in May 2019 this new party, then called the ‘Brexit Party’, swept the board, leading to the resignation of Remain Theresa? Worse was to come: yon BoJo actually became Tory leader and won the following snap election, ousting Labour from their ‘red wall’ places.
Whitehall learn the lesson that we peasants cannot be trusted. Clearly the puppet masters had to do something, especially since one of their arch enemies, a certain Mr Cummings, was now in No 10 and dared to start working on reforming the cosy Whitehall set-up. How glad they must all have been that covid appeared!
How glad they must have been that the crop of Johnson ministers was too scientifically illiterate to question any of the covid measures! Brexit couldn’t be prevented, but it could be watered down. And the unwashed hordes of plebs could be frightened into obedience with daily doses of fear porn. Those pointing out that the SAGE approach might not have been the best way to deal with covid were silenced, shut out, de-platformed, chased out of the country.
From the first months Johnson was PM the hunt was on to get rid of Cummings. That was a lovely exercise in dripping poison into the pens of willing MSM scribes. Then there was ‘Partygate’, the scandal which even those in Whitehall who’d have preferred BJ to continue, couldn’t prevent from toppling him.
Was it perhaps a case of sections of the MSM happily pushing their lefty agenda, regardless? After all, he did trounce Labour, unforgivable on the Islington dinner circuit, unforgivable in the circle of those Sir Humphreys who believe it surely must now be their turn to reach the top and push whatever could be available to keep Remain in sight.
Here’s another puzzle: isn’t it strange that there hasn’t been the slightest uproar, demanding that Net Zero be scrapped, together with all those other ‘green’ policies so beloved by the Left, and thus so beloved by the Westminster MSM? Isn’t it odd that none of the ‘tax cut’ and ‘energy crisis’ legislative packages are addressing the items which would leave more money in our pockets, such as abolishing VAT on all energy products or abolishing the ‘green surcharge’? Perhaps the whole of the Westminster cabal believes that would be ‘immoral’ …
So let’s ask how a Labour regime would address inflation, exorbitant energy prices, illegal migrants and the coming ‘welfare cuts’. All I can see is: more taxation and more debts. Those taxes are sorely needed to keep civil serpents in clover. Employment in the public sector mustn’t be cut. ‘Diversity’ managers must definitely keep their well-paying jobs. Funny though: the going rate for those jobs seems to be well above the £50,000 mark – so why would they be happy with a Starmer regime telling them they’ll have to forget paying only 40% income tax because that’s immoral? Something doesn’t add up, given yon Yougov Poll.
There’s a phenomenon which is gripping Germany: people on middle-income jobs are giving up. Given the exorbitant tax levels and the over-generous ‘bennies’, with fewer strings now thanks to the Red&Green government, they found that they are worse off working than those on bennies. So they quit. Would Labour be any better than the German government? Why would people here in the UK keep working, generating income and taxes, when a Labour government would promise to pay for their welfare, housing and heating? Why work when, thanks to the increasing tax burden, they’d be worse off?
And finally: isn’t it extraordinary how the current crop on both benches in the HoC is so totally bereft of any understanding of economic and scientific issues that they are relying on the minister-whisperers of Whitehall? Sadly, these are equally illiterate and rely on lobby groups to tell them what is required, for example to push through yon vaccine, or to push through green crap. Is ‘cancel culture’ perhaps not just aimed at pushing transgender and BLM issues but at silently burying any scientific opposition to policies such as Net Zero?
I leave you with one last thought. Looking at the current turmoil regarding the economy, with acres printed of ‘warnings’ given to Truss and Kwarteng by all those anonymous mandarins and by entities such as the IMF, I wonder if the Whitehall mandarins are now overtly taking revenge for Brexit, feeding their ‘warnings’ into the willing ears of the MSM, hell-bent on ‘regime change.
I also wonder if the sacking of the Treasury’s chief mandarin at the start of the Truss government was the final straw, the signal for the mandarins to withdraw their ‘protection’ from all ministers. Far be it from me to insinuate that yon Treasury mandarin is talking to MSM ‘chief editors’, in an effort to finally topple the unloved but elected government, as revenge for Brexit!
There is however this: thanks to covid, more and more of us stupid plebs are informing ourselves elsewhere. Whitehall and the MSM might think they can herd us into the direction they want – right now into the arms of a Starmer regime. Those polled by YouGov might simply have regurgitated what they were fed by their customary diet of propaganda.
Most of us however are not so stupid. We know that something ain’t true just because it’s in the meejah. Won longer believe a word they say until we’ve checked our own sources. Moreover, we’ll not tell them so when ‘polled’. Enjoy the weekend – there’ll be ‘moar turmoil’, at home and abroad.
A Tory should be a capitalist and not use socialism to bail themselves out when things go wrong. Labour socialists should never have bailed the capitalists out when things went wrong. That’s what they meant when they said we are all in it together.

Pauline, the government are actually looking at how they can avoid restoring the triple lock because of (……..insert your own excuse). Dr Randall Bloch in the U.S. has published a paper that also reveals that Omicron did not evolve from Delta or any other strain. It is not linearly descended. You have to go back to early 2020 strains to find its most recent common ancestor. It has a huge number of mutations. Interestingly the NHS symptom list has been updated showing it can no longer be distinguished from the common cold. So Pandemic it is not; why do we still have states of emergency around the world (rhetorical question!)? Phil – you are absolutely right about Omicron’s strange lineage & in a mathematical analysis of the distribution of the mutations on the genome, the author postulated that the high ratio of binding site changes compared to elsewhere suggested man, not chance.
Not sure about the rest though – there have been phylogenetic trees published and the emergence of alpha, delta etc derives from them. Not so Omicron, which, as you say, shoots off from the progenitor or an early iteration in a branch all of its own.

In the 40’s and 50 and 60’s virtually all start ups and small companies, just did not recognise the hymn sheet of all the various officials. And then came Labours NHS and PAYE and NHI. And if a company got too big it attracted attention from unions and inspectors, And the benefits appeared too good. And after the war years the benefits appeared to be almost as good as freedom. AND THAT IS WHY THE ECONOMY RECOVERED SO QUICKLY AFTER THE WAR.( It was marginally better than the trenches )

But also a lot of good businesses started with very little capital required where you used (I won`t say employed) people working from home, think of all the knitters from the Shetlands say turning out jerseys etc for low pounds and now costing hundreds which put them out of the people who would really wear that stuff for warmth and long lasting.
Think of the factories chock full of immigrant sewers turning out goods for pennies, so we were able to compete with China and save on imports. Think of the hot bedding, house full of say 10/15 immigrants sleeping day and night shifts. Think of Coventry “Boom Town” we lost a Charge Hand Joiner who went off to Roots and cleaned toilets for more pay than he was getting on our sites..
Those were the days of what they now called the “black economy”, where many of us did what was euphemistically called “foreigners” for extra cash in hand jobs and women earned “pin money” looking after children etc while their mothers worked..

I`m not saying I`m looking forward to those days coming back, but I do believe a start could be made by getting rid of VAT (It mostly hits small firms, big ones know the ropes, can hire professionals to squeeze ever last penny out of the exchequer) and I would advocate “outworkers” being left alone.

I’m very concerned about the British economy although most of the world is not far behind. The media play down the Bank of England intervention earlier this week but most people don’t realise just how close to the precipice we really were; certainly there nearly were many thousands or even millions of retirees with no pension and that’s just for starters.
Your politicians can’t help you anymore, welfare cuts are just the beginning, soon the streets will be lined with homeless and hungry people just like the worst of third world countries, then just watch racial tensions explode. The latest intervention has probably only bought days, it isn’t just the people that won’t be able to service their debts and mortgages, a government saddled with more debt than at anytime in history won’t be able to service its debts either, a complete implosion is on the cards. An about turn is on the cards, interest rate rises may be reversed and money printing resumed but it’ll just create even more hyperinflation and even more misery, it’s all a bit like trying to choose your favourite terminal disease.
All you can expect from any politician now is for them smile reassuringly and spout platitudes and pure BS.
