Pay attention: un-woke science is harmful!

 

It looks as if the ‘sources’ in Whitehall had a day off yesterday, not providing ‘guidance’ to our MSM who were left to their own devices. Thus we’re served a nice buffet of headlines this morning, with something for everyone: murder, spies, war, pollution: take your pick (link).

The ever useful ‘project fear’ however has been served by both the lefty broadsheet ‘guardian’ and the righty Red Top DM. Both tell us that China could be spying on all of us through CCTV and police cameras – scroll down a bit here. Now if that’s not scary! Meanwhile, a few hours ago Auntie B reported:

“The White House has said there is no indication three flying objects blasted out of the sky over the weekend by the US military are linked to alleged Chinese spying. The objects may be “tied to commercial or research entities and therefore benign”, spokesman John Kirby said. US and Canadian officials have not yet located or recovered any wreckage from the three downed aircraft.” (link)

So that report junks all the lovely stories about ET and the hysteria about Chinese spy balloons – how sad! Do refrain from comparing the US government with cowboys who shoot first and ask questions later! That would be unwise because there’s still ‘that’ war. NATO is worried and so are the French. The DT reports that: 

“On Tuesday a leading French MP told the Telegraph that there were concerns in his country that Britain had given weapons to Ukraine from its own supplies, leaving its forces depleted.” (paywalled link)

Oh dear – are the Frogs now unhappy with the UK’s support for yon war? I thought they were all falling over themselves to supply everything the Ukraine’s president was and is asking for? And now this isn’t good enough? Is that why The Express’ printed front page screams that “We can stand up to Putin”? (link)?

Perhaps this odd accusation is a deflection from the whine by NATO’s chief, Stoltenberg, reported in The Times under the headline “West risks running out of ammunition, warns Nato chief Jens Stoltenberg” (link, paywalled). After all, if the UK’s forces have been ‘depleted’ and there’s now no money, what are the other NATO countries to do? Pay for their own stuff, themselves? The horror! Next:

“Jens Stoltenberg said western allies needed to ensure Kyiv received the weapons it needed “to win this war” and to stock up their own armouries. “We see no signs that President Putin is preparing for peace. What we see is the opposite, he is preparing for more war, for new offensives and new attacks,” he said. “This has become a grinding war of attrition and therefore it’s also a battle of logistics. This is a huge effort by allies to actually be able to get in the ammunition, the fuel, the spare parts, which are needed.” (link, paywalled). 

So are things perhaps not going that well on yon Eastern front? wasn’t the Ukraine winning, hasn’t Russia run out of ammunition since, well, March 2922? Who knows! What we do know is that we’re being prepared for more money to be spent on that war, regardless of the economic situation in NATO countries. 

It’s also a perfect reason for Ben Wallace to demand extra money for the MoD. After all, NATO demands and surely the Treasury doesn’t want to look like a ‘Putin lover’ by refusing to pay! And then there’s the ‘growing threat’ from China, spy balloons or not (paywalled link).

Meanwhile here at home the Dripford government shows the way forward to achieve Net Zero. I love the DM’s headline which demonstrates, perhaps tongue-in-cheek, the ‘thinking’ of Net Zero government officials:

“Welsh government axes ALL the country’s major road building projects – and say no more will be built unless they won’t cause more cars or higher emissions” (link).

It’s brilliant: more roads cause more cars and thus more CO2, so axe the lot! Perhaps Dripford should lead the way and ‘unbuild’ all Welsh roads, ready for rewilding. What brilliant way to keep the Saes out of the Principality, especially since the Dripford lot has imposed a blanket 20mph speed limit on all existing roads in Wales. Who needs tourists in cars! And the final indignity: Welsh International rugby players are ‘considering’ strike action over contracts (link). Perhaps there won’t be the 6N match against England? I’m sure that’ll save a ton of CO2!

I leave you with the latest example of woke insanity, with proposals for language change in biology. The headline for the DT’s report says it all: “Use ‘egg-producing’ not ‘female’, say scientists in call to phase out binary language”(paywalled link). No, it’s not April Fool’s Day – I double-checked the date – and yes, these ‘scientists’ are serious. See this:

“Researchers studying ecology and evolutionary biology should be encouraged to use terms such as “sperm-producing” or “egg producing” or “XY/XX individual” to avoid “emphasising hetero-normative views”, experts say. Other words and terms deemed problematic include man, woman, mother, father, primitive, advanced, alien, invasive, exotic, non-native and race. […] Even one of the most famous scientific concepts of all time, the “survival of the fittest”, should no longer be used because it discriminates against people with disabilities and is linked to eugenics, they advise.” (paywalled link)

Apparently, this is a newly constituted ‘group’ who met on Twitter, as one does. The ‘experts’ seem to be post-grad students. Here are some other expressions they deem to be ‘harmful’:

“For example, they have flagged up the term “citizen science” saying it could be “harmful to non-citizens” who may feel excluded. Instead, they suggest “participant science or community science”. The term “invasive” or “non-native species” is also deemed to be “xenophobic, anti-immigrant, and militaristic”, and could be replaced with “newly-arrived” or “nuisance species”, they suggest. Even the phrase “double-blind” – which is often used to describe trials in which neither the participants nor scientists know if they are on a drug or placebo – has been deemed potentially offensive to those with disabilities.” (paywalled link)

Yes, well, I’m offended by their ageist attitude, consigning me to the scrapheap because biology stopped me from being ‘egg-producing’! Also, hasn’t someone pointed out to them that sorting people into ‘xy/xx’ categories kicks the whole woke ‘trans’ and ‘genderfluid’ debate into the rubbish bin? Even though modern medicine can create a ‘(formerly) sperm-producing woman’,  it still is ‘xy’. Shouldn’t this description also be labelled ‘harmful’? Will our woke universities now ‘cancel’ science books as well as English Literature?

That’s all I have for today. Let’s hope that more and more people will start laughing at the insanity displayed by the Net Zero acolytes and woke ‘scientists’. When people start laughing the cause is lost. Have a good day!
