Allow me to apologise twice. Firstly for being late: there was connectivity trouble at t’mill. Secondly for having made a false prediction yesterday: the MSM weren’t swamped this morning by St Valentine’s mawkishness. Well – not on their dead-tree front pages, that is (link).
My morning was brightened again by the Daily Star’s front page, bless them! They tell us that “We can’t rule out aliens, a military commander says”. Well, according to the broadsheets’ online editions the White House does rule out aliens, so we have to make do with Sunak telling us that the RAf is prepared to shoot any UFO down.
Moreover, according to the DT, “Police use of Chinese drones ‘risks UK security”, so the HoC Security Committee is going to look into this and Ms Braverman is ‘concerned’:
“The use of Chinese-made drones by British police forces has sparked security fears in the Government amid increasing concerns about attempts by Beijing to gather intelligence on the West. More than two-thirds of drones operated by police forces in the UK are made by a Chinese firm that is blacklisted in the US as a national security risk, […]” (paywalled link)
We read that the drone manufacturer ‘DJI is one of the biggest drone firms in the world’ and ‘was designated a national security concern by the US in 2020, then added to a blacklist of firms with alleged ties to the Chinese military last October.’ (paywalled link). Now isn’t that date interesting: I seem to remember that something happened in 2020, something involving China …
And still, our Police Forces don’t seem to have dropped their Chinese drones at the drop of that US hat – not that we’ re told if the USA makes drones and if the drones used in that country have been replaced so that tainted Chinese ones don’t pollute their skies. At least we learn how many drones our Police are using (my emphasis):
“UK police data obtained under Freedom of Information laws show that at least 230 of the 337 drones operated by 37 police forces are models supplied by DJI. Eleven forces refused to reveal the companies providing their drones, suggesting the numbers could be much higher.” (paywalled link)
But it’s not just the drones, the hardware, spying for the Chinese spies! It’s worse! Those drone apps might download:
“[…] confidential data from operators’ phones or other devices. Industry experts have also claimed that drones flown with cameras have independently taken pictures without being authorised by the operator, with the images only discovered after they accessed their database. These could have been uploaded to the Chinese company’s servers.” (paywalled link)
Blimey! So drone apps secretly link to smartphone apps? Shouldn’t our government now demand that we peasants ditch all our smartphones because the Chinese could download all our info onto their servers? Perhaps only US-made phones and apps are going to be permitted because friends don’t spy on friends, correct? Oh dear – what a spy mess!
As for those ‘UFOs’ which are not aliens, there have been lots of articles in the DM. Only one of them is quote-worthy:
“The ‘small, metallic balloon’ that was floating near Michigan reportedly cost the U.S. government nearly a million dollars’ worth of missiles to shoot down. A U.S. Air Force F-16 missed on its first attempt to shoot down the balloon floating over Lake Huron. It then fired a second Sidewinder AIM-9X missile that hit the target, Fox News reports. Each Sidewinder costs around $400,000.” (link)
Oh dear. That’s nearly one million bucks ‘spent’ on that ‘object’. No, I have no idea how a balloon can be ‘metallic’ and still float, but whatevah! And so to our precious Royal Navy which also saw action:
“A midnight raid by Royal Marines in the Gulf of Oman has unearthed strong evidence that Iran is breaking a UN arms embargo by supplying rebels in Yemen with cruise missiles and drones. Marines were dispatched from HMS Montrose, a Type 23 frigate, on two occasions early last year to intercept unflagged speedboats suspected of smuggling weapons into the war-torn country.” (link, paywalled)
Blimey! And the ‘defence correspondent’ then gives details which surely must gladden the heart of the Defence Minister! Next, see this:
“The interceptions on January 28 and February 22 involved a Wildcat helicopter sent to investigate the vessels after they were picked up by radar moving at a suspicious pace, according to the Ministry of Defence. On both occasions, the helicopters used the downwash from their rotor blades to drive the smugglers below deck and away from the boats’ controls, bringing the vessels to a stop. Marines then arrived in inflatable boats and seized a haul of weapons that included land-attack cruise missiles and reconnaissance drones, which had been disassembled and wrapped up in polystyrene and plastic.” (link, paywalled)
This is proper derring-do by the Royal Marines, gladdening our hearts, yes? However, these actions happened one year ago so it’s not really ‘news’, but useful to polish up the escutcheon of the RN. Perhaps the MoD gave permission to publish it because the Royal Marines also found drones, or because Mr Wallace is keen on getting more money out of the Treasury? I do love it when we get proof of how Whitehall and the Westminster MSM are manipulating us!
And finally, because it’s St Valentine’s Day, there’s a vomit-inducing ‘feature’ in the DT, under the headline “A Big Mac dinner and an electric car: Can men ever get Valentine’s Day right?” (paywalled link), seven mostly old white men tell us about their Valentine’s “effort”.
May I humbly suggest to the DT’s subeditor (probably female) who concocted that headline: these men actually did something, so why sneer at them? Wouldn’t it have been so much better to ‘celebrate’ wimmin with stories about how they ‘got St Valentine’s day right’? After all, in this feminist age, wimmin can do everything and surely don’t have to wait for a swain to ‘show love’? Whatevah …
That’s all I have for today. If you go outside and notice some flying objects, remember: it might be aliens unless they’re Chinese spy drones. Of course, our own government would never spy on us even though they are pushing Chinese-made smartphones into our hands. Speaking of ‘smart’: where are all those smartmeters made, and what about their apps? Hm. Have a good St Valentine’s Day!
So now it is out in the open and its not just Ursula von De Luyen boasting as she was about it two weeks ago, that British negotiators in the Northern Ireland protocol have relented on their red line to allow the judges of the European Court of Justice to have the final say on disputes. As per usual we cave in to European Commission demands and give them what they want even though we are supposedly no longer in the European Union. It just confirms that Sunak’s government lacks political conviction, is devoid of backbone, and does not put the interests of the citizens of this country first. The sooner this utter shower are out of power the better it will be for all concerned. They will I think, be in for a proper shafting at the forthcoming local elections in May and will be lucky to hold any seats at all such is the level of discontent. And, what will Sunak do about Michael Gove’s attendance at that meeting about Brexit at Ditchley Park I wonder. Will he swallow the line that Gove has been promoting that he went in the capacity of being a Ditchley Park trustee. Sunak appears so gullible I am pretty sure will swallow anything. So far there has been bugger all in the way of a comment from him about that. Anything for a quiet life……….

It is reported that Chinese spy ballons have been shot down in the USA too although, I think, no real evidence of this has been seen. Suppose the British balloon episode witll take attention away from the fact that it is our own agencies that are obsessive about spying on their own people. Did I read somewhere that there are more surveillance cameras spying on the British people than any other in the world?

We need to reduce our dependence on China for all products and restore our own manufacturing industry. As well as ongoing quality and spying issues what would happen if they refused to supply us?

I agree Jack Thomas, 9.02am. We need to reduce imports from anywhere by restoring our own manufacturing industries. To do that, we need secure energy supplies. Which means use our own fossil fuels, (including fracking), while we develope more nuclear energy. It shouldn’t be beyond the nation that was first in ‘the industrial revolution’, should it.
To achieve those aims (highly commendable) It would take a popular uprising like you nor I have ever seen in our lifetimes Pauline. No establishment party will even attempt to restore manufacturing industries.
Re “Spy balloons” When a balloon is released, it goes where the wind takes it. Hardly useful for spying I’d have thought. How would any info. gathered be sent back to China?

All seems pretty pointless.
Harry F Arbitrage (Form 2)- info is sent via transmitter hanging under the balloon along with other items – a myriad of sensors and maybe a camera or two. These are generally solar panel powered. There was a lot of talk re an inspection of the dangly bits. The balloon was so big solar panels would be in the shadow of it hence not much battery charging, hence much limited working duration.

First, China’s friend Biden et al are doing their best NOT to find evidence, blasting the suspended packages to pieces and preferably over water. Surely simply puncturing the balloon would not be beyond them.
Second, the suspended machinery in some photos appears to have large flat arrays reminiscent of the solar battery arms on many space projects.
Third, you can hardly call it drifting when they (at least the first one we heard of) make a bee-line for a succession of military installations and then hang about for a while over each. Perhaps, again like space modules, the equipment packs contain small thrusters.
Still it provides a diversion from all the ‘mysterious fires’ at major food processing plants in the US., including the two into which light aircraft ‘mysteriously’ crashed as they do, the ‘mysterious’ sudden widespread dearth of eggs at chicken farms, the ‘mysterious spate’ of chemical trains being derailed and spewing severely toxic clouds over local wide areas (look up the current Ohio one.) All so normal that there is apparently nothing to see here folks.
