We are bombarded day after day with the carefully edited, government issued, ‘National statistics manipulation’, via the complicit MSM and the State Broadcaster BBC. The message conveyed has become predictably depressing in its frightfulness

The government picture is one of catastrophic death and destruction.  The message it carries is that we all should be afraid of ‘the pestilence’.  ‘They’ say the looming disaster is omnipresent.  ‘They’ are at pains to convince us all that ‘They’ are caring benevolence personified and that ‘They’ will take every precaution to keep us all ‘safe’. However, every day I read alternative and highly plausible independent interpretations of the ‘Statistics of Covid’ and its sister-in-doom ‘Climate Change’ that tell quite another story.

The course of our lives is being dictated by ‘statistics’. Not facts; not reason; not logic; not experience nor common sense.  Instead we are being hoodwinked into complicity by the carefully crafted ‘political slant of the day’ that has been decreed by those in Power and duly backed up by ‘statistical evidence’.  This evidence is compiled by the ever-willing ‘toadies’ who suck at the bounteous teat of Power. They are happy to provide whatever is needful to promote the required ‘message’. They pimp their dubious skills, manipulating ‘statistics’ to order.  They do this for financial reward and the chance to ‘sit above the salt, close to the top table’. They feel no press of conscience at the deleterious effect that their shameless manipulation of raw data has on the lives of so many.

When I was a child I used to be taken to the Circus whenever it came into town.  I was never asked whether I actually wanted to visit.  It was just assumed that all children liked the Circus. I hated the Circus and everything about it.  The clowns frightened me (and still do!),  the cruel manipulation of animals revolted me.  The garishness and razzmatazz offended my sensibilities. I felt complete revulsion.

I believe that we, the people, have now become humankind animals being manipulated in a real-life Circus of statistics-dominated political manoeuvring. We are the main event. The Ringmasters (and how many there seem to be!  A different one – sometimes several – every day!) crack their whips and the majority duly perform as required.  We jump through hoops; cower in our cages; fawn and purr for a titbit of hope or privilege without a thought for the fact that we were once free and independent human beings, not animals, that used to enjoy the right to roam our habitat and associate with others of our kind, without having to wait for the whip to crack and permission be issued.  The Ringmasters come and go but the Circus show goes on in all its tawdriness.

We are now, ‘de facto, ‘herd animals’.  Little separates our daily lives from those serfs who were the equivalent of ‘herd animals’ in bygone days.  Power always lay with the political ‘Ringmasters’.  Once that meant the Aristocracy who owned their serfs absolutely.  Now, global dominant billionaires who have  become twisted by their financial success and bored perhaps with the ‘trappings’ of wealth (one may only eat so much in any one day; or wear so many clothes; the many roofs may only be dwelt under one at a time) have turned their sybaritic lives towards the heady idea of ruling the World and returning ‘Hoi Polloi’ to serfdom.

Democracy (or the semblance thereof) was hard won and has been short lived.  For many years Parliament was the domain of the rich and powerful.  They nominated their preferred candidates for the ‘Commons’. They, of course, being aristocrats, could only sit in the ‘Lords’. They expected that their nominated ‘creatures’ would obey their commands in all things.  Thus they could continue to rule the ‘Commons’ and the common-herd.  Universal suffrage has not really changed any of that.  The ‘illusion’ of democracy has been flaunted but the reality has been and is now, more than ever, something completely different!

The people, currently, still have their vote but the effectiveness of that vote has been reduced to nothing more than a sham.  Manipulation of the voting system (this has been very effectively discussed elsewhere on this site very recently) has made ‘democracy’ a fake.  The Commons has morphed into a one-party system which precludes any effective ‘opposition’ or holding to account the ruling party of the day.  The ‘fixed-term’ Parliament; the absolute selection of candidates by ‘central party officials’ rather than by local ballot; the postal vote.  And -.dare I raise the spectre of ‘voting fraud’?

Now the recent covid emergence has enabled those whose hearts and minds are once again set upon the re-implementation of suppression and tyranny, to seize almost absolute power. This has been achieved (without making it obvious during the procedure) by using the surreptitious coup against the people that most certainly has been enacted. The covert imposition of a totalitarian State has been brought about. It has been done without people realising until it was too late that their freedoms to live and breathe without offending any edict or ukase have been effectively removed.

It has been so easy and so successful – this removal of Liberty!  The most effective of weapons, psychology, has been used to anaesthetise, capture and train the majority of the people into obeying, almost without question, the diktats of raw ‘Power’. We are now the most obedient of Circus animals cavorting, on command, around the carefully created three-ringed-circus of ‘statistics’, ‘complicity’ and ‘despair’.

The manipulation of ‘statistics’ is systematically and very effectively dismantling the World we knew and enjoyed. The expression:  “Lies, damned lies and statistics” has never, in my opinion, been more apposite.

I close this ‘Grumpy Old Woman’ episode with a passage, often quoted by myself. It’s one that I carry with me everywhere.  I believe that it illustrates and encapsulates exactly the situation in which we currently find ourselves existing – you will note that I do not call it ‘living’:

Plunder has definitely been the order of the day and a ‘power seizure’ has been lately enacted by this government.  Their sanctimonious justification for such action and the deleterious effect that it has had upon society has absolutely, in their eyes, ‘glorified’ it.
