Is this deal written in English ? or 27 other languages.? Tax treaties I knew of were loaded with loose translations and they only involved ENglish plus one other lingo .
Arcane sure. open to unilateral action ? you betcha
It looks as if the deal will pass through commons, so we are where we are. Clearly we could have been in a much worse place had the Conservative party not achieved a majority which was helped along because The Brexit Party stood down candidates. The deal itself is will probably be ok, we have achieved much of what we wanted from an initial position of complete hopelessness 15 years ago, so not too bad a result.
The legal eagles of Brexit persuasion will, no doubt, find any nasties lurking that we can address at a later date, but the overall position does seem to be one we can accept.
The next challenge is political reform because we should never forget the catastrophic damage this government has done the economy and the destruction of our free society by diktat, without even our supine parliament having a say. As the truth unveils, the pointlessness and severity of this dictatorship will create the opportunity to do just this.
Perhaps we need a Machiavelli to read through those pages……….?
Season’s Greetings to all contributors, to the site, not the ‘Treaty’ (suicide note? Time will tell!)
Not happy with what I’ve read of the summary document on fishing – except the bit that APPEAR to say either party can walk away from the deal with six months (or was it nine?) notice. Although it starts by referring to our being recognised as a sovereign nation and in charge of our own waters, it then lists all the conditions which are going to string it out for 5 and a half YEARS and contains vague references to us allowing EU boats to continue fishing in our waters where they have “Historically” fished. That could mean ever since we gave away our fisheries in the 1970s, meaning EU boats can just carry on as before. I hope I’m misinterpreting that!
Tom, that sounds a bit like BRINO for fishing.
All need to look closely at this because the devil is in the detail. Here are the facts not those from political spin activists and salesmen but from the Treasury & HMRC. Go to the point 29mins in, it outlines that the ROI or any of the 27 EU nation’s can Veto our involvement or benefits from future UK International Trade Deals.!

Raymond, that sounds a bit like BRINO for Britain’s international trade.
I notice all of them say “trade deal done”
Any reason the word “FREE” is not mentioned?
Re: the reputed 1000 page surrender document if there is one mention of the words European Court of Justice ( except as specifically excluded) then it should not be ratified by our parliament.
I agree – and Northern Ireland has been betrayed by the PM
Astute comment seen on The Slog..
“It’s difficult to believe that there’s no link between the unblocking of the blockade at Dover and the agreement of a Brexit deal.”
Yes, I think the world and his dog knew what Macron was up to. However, the government walked straight into it by doing ‘the right thing’.
Let’s wait until we have a detailed view of what Boris has really given in to before celebrating, not his words to a press conference.
Quite agree Jack. Do you fancy going through 2000 pages and doing a write-up for us?
2000 pages is four times as much legalese in small print as the Withdrawal Agreement. I doubt if many MPs will read through it, even if they could, especially at Christmas time. John Redwood might though. But given Bojo’s record (backing HS2 and “Decarbonisation”) the omens are not good for avoiding a BRINO.
