All these false accusations against Dominic Cummings could have been checked easily by journalists before printing them. But such is the hatred and bigotry of sections of the press in Britain that the basic tenets of sound journalism are now just a recognised joke in what was once a profession but is now a series of ruthless political movements. The target of the south east based British media is a son of Durham and the stench of hypocrisy is overwhelming.
In the case of the British Prime Minister’s Special Adviser Dominic Cummings, who is accused of “arrogantly breaking Coronavirus law” the press lies have reached a new level: The left wing press have said over several weeks that Dominic Cummings:
“Had broken the Law” – LIE. Section 6 of the Coronavirus Act does not say travel from home is against the law if the purpose is reasonable. Like protecting family members, medical reasons, travel to work or to better self isolate. All these apply to the actions of Dominic Cummings.
“Was investigated by the police” – LIE. The police had visited to advise on his security
“Went to stay with his parents” – LIE. He went with his sick wife and young child to stay isolated in a cottage on his father’s farm.
“Had no reason to travel” – LIE. With both parents having suspected COVID19 symptoms their child needed relatives on hand to look after him if the parents became too ill. In fact the child became extremely ill (not COVID) and had to be taken to hospital.
“Left Durham returned to London and then travelled again to Durham” – LIE. DC was working, after his return, in London. This lie was given headline treatment by the BBC, The Guardian and The Observer – all extreme opponents of Cummings and PM Johnson’s policies.
“Opposed Lockdown” – LIE. He had long advocated it – and written over several years about the dangers of a probable pandemic
“Kept his trip to Durham secret” – LIE. A private matter is not a secret. He did not broadcast the fact. His own home was besieged by the press who hounded his family and even today fail to keep social distancing rules as they amass in front of his house.
CIVIL SERVICE ANTI BREXIT PLOT?
All these false accusations have led to a misinformed public and have therefore easily whipped up resentment against Cummings. The absence through illness of both the Prime Minister and his Special Adviser had led apparently to a conspiracy by civil servants to postpone (and therefore they hope abort) Brexit. Cummings’ return stopped it. The next target of attack will, I am informed, be the extremely effective David Frost the UK’s Chief Brexit negotiator. Apparently it is the “man with too many jobs” Sir Mark Sedwill (Cabinet Secretary, Head of the Civil Service and National Security Adviser) who is the threat to Frost – and Cummings and Johnson of course and therefore the democratic decision of the British people!
The enemies of British nationhood and democracy do not sleep. Their corporatist fascist plans for our permanent national destruction have been well laid. They know that Johnson and in particular Dominic Cummings are the drivers of our nation’s liberation. They will stop at nothing.
THE SOUTHERN ESTABLISHMENT BREAKS THE RULES
What sickens me about the attacks on Dominic Cummings is that nearly all the people I know in London have gone to their second homes in the country where they are often two or three generations “isolating” together.
One well known scriptwriter and Red nose fundraiser and his large family went to their home by the sea in Suffolk (three generations of them) where they have been swimming in the sea for many weeks. Stephen Kinnock went from South Wales to London and back for his father’s birthday. An MP Tahir Ali went to a Muslim funeral attended by 100 people. A Minister Robert Jenrick visited his parents in Shropshire. None have resigned. The Tory Minister who resigned in protest at Cummings, Douglas Ross, relocated after lockdown from London to Moray in Scotland and then back to London on 18th May. No apparent medical reason. Blair’s sidekick Alistair Campbell while attacking Cummings was photographed in close proximity (3 inches) to a member of the public in Hyde Park.
I am sure many other left wing luvvies, MPs and journalists have been fleeing the capital to live with elderly relatives – and not for any medical reasons or for the protection of a 4 year old child. But they draw the line at anyone having a family home in Co Durham – oh dear isn’t that full of dirty miners and coal pits? It’s “270 miles away” – surely no one could exist that far from London?
AND THE STENCH OF HYPOCRISY
The Leader of the Opposition, Labour’s Sir Keir Starmer said he would have sacked Cummings. But Starmer not only did not sack Stephen Kinnock MP when the latter travelled during Lockdown to his father’s house in South Wales (“for a birthday celebration”) but appointed him a Shadow Minister at the Foreign Office some days later.
So for Labour you can travel to celebrate a birthday but you can’t travel to isolate yourself and your sick family in a cottage in your native county on your father’s farm.
The British press – particularly the left wing press (Mirror, Guardian, BBC) – camped outside Cummings House with no evident social distancing but haranguing Cummings and intimidating his family. One Guardian journalist chalked an insult on the road and photographed it as a news item! One photograph published showed a man approaching Dominic Cummings sticking two fingers in the air – a physical demonstration of the sophisticated level of political reporting now common among the press in Britain!
The last refugee of a journalist scoundrel – fake your own news and report it!
NEVER TRUST TODAY’S POLITICISED, UNPROFESSIONAL BRITISH PRESS
Overseas readers might be surprised how low so much of the British press has sunk in its frantic, abusive truth twisting degradation of the journalist’s profession. We are not talking about the expression of an ideological position or taking political sides – we are talking about outright lies, half truths blown up into lies, abuse of political figures, open fabrication of fake news and promoting and photographing the abuse of political figures.
It was not always so. When I was writing political economy and policy papers during the 1980s I was always reported by and treated with respect by newspapers like The Guardian (the former Associate Editor Michael White was particularly fair) or The Observer, even though I was promoting Conservative and free market capitalist ideas. Even the BBC Today programme gave me a fair hearing!
Unthinkable today.
I will copy this article and send to people I know who have said that Cummings should sacked. The article will be an eye opener to them. The mob mentality is sad and as a society we have not advanced nearly as much as we think we have.
I too saw the DT as the last foothold on melting ice but no more. There raise in price weened me off the habit of buying a newspaper. After a short period of withdrawal symptoms I feel relieved as even they have shown the stupidity of the others. Now I find news elsewhere.
Our society is sick and this article shows up the media for what it is and that is something which is no help to the public for information entertainment or balance. It is depraved. The puzzle page may is ok.
Yes please Kim copy far and wide. Unfortunately I can’t.
Rodney,
Absolutely inspired . Beautiful. But going on too long . Stop after lies.
Dominac Cummings and Boris need help. or we lose all we fought for’
The seven lies need telling.Tell them to everyone who wants to know more
Use UKIP branch network to get leaflets out
Make each one a slogan for remembering.for example’
Q. He broke the law. A. LIE. He checked with authorities first.
Q. Investigated bypolice. A. LIE They gave advice about Lockdown and the Media screaming.
Q.Visitedpensioner Parents in Lockdown. A. LIE.They stayed in different house.
Qetc etc
get cleaned up by sloganeer. BUT
Do it now. Do it quick, Do NOT wait for bureaucracy. Do not mess with Internet. Real Brits believe pensioners have considered more.and FINALLY Blame lefties and PC.
ONE OF THE MOANER’S MAILBOXES had the cheek to ask me for my signature, to a letter for Boris Johnson ! – What is so very sad, is that they claimed to have about 750,000 signatures already ! – It seems that the old ”Burn the Witch” cry from the Middle Ages, is the concomitant of the MSM with those of the Left, mixed liberally with Remain in the EU folk ! – Mix them all together, and you have IGNORANT LOSERS EN MASS !
JOURNALISTS AND FACTS just don’t belong together, so perhaps now you will understand why I haven’t bought a Newspaper for years ! – Once upon a time Journalists dug up the facts. – Today, they just repeat uninformed/ignorant drivel, then expect people to buy their drivelling rubbish !
DEBBIE SITS WITH ‘FREENATIONS’ AND RODNEY ATKINSON. – Take a bow Debbie. – Could it be that your a real Journalist ? – Trouble is that the ignorant losers don’t want FACTS ABOUT DOMINIC CUMMINGS. – They only want a target to put the boot in, and being truly stupid, they will believe MSM drivel, and without any questions asked ! ….. I BET IT’S THESE DRIPS WHO BUY THE PAPERS, AND KEEP THEM COMING !
Thanks Mike. 🙂
Journalism was never a profession, it is at best a trade and is none the less for that.
Cabinet makers and plasterers are honest tradesmen and highly respected. Far too many journalists today are mere leftist activists to whom truth is something they no longer respect even when they recognise it.
Not all of us Badger!
Rodney Atkinson says it all here. There is, of course, one massive blessing from all of this: many more thousands of people will have learned NOT TO TRUST TODAY’S POLITICISED, UNPROFESSIONAL BRITISH PRESS.
Absolutely right. Unlike some others I am glad that Boris Johnson is seriously putting his foot down on the media at these Downing Street daily briefings. Quite a lot of us are sick to death with the politicised BBC and its left wing agenda, and I was really pleased that he put that Laura Kuensberg in her place. Just who does she think she is, addressing the prime minister in the way that she does, and Peston is just as bad. The day of reckoning for the BBC is fast approaching I feel……
The Anti-Brexit Plot is the Withdrawal Treaty that was made law by our MPs in Westminster in January this year. It says that British judges will have to strike down future British laws if the European Union considers that those future Acts of future British Parliaments are contrary to EU law. It commits the UK to military cooperation with the EU and military command by the EU . It says that future British foreign policy must not be contrary to EU interests. It commits the Bank of England to paying out up to five hundred billion Euros to restore the solvency of central banks of EU member countries when they become insolvent. (No doubt the B of E will end up paying out more than 500 million Euros when EU banks go bust). It makes Britain subject to the Court of Justice of the EU after Britain ceases to be a member of the EU. And there is no way in the Withdrawal Treaty for it to be terminated. The real anti-Brexit plot is the misnamed Withdrawal Treaty.
Surely it is unlawful to subject our country to control by the EU when we have left whatever the WA says? Heath got away with it because people trusted politicians in those days. Now many of us are aware of their treasonous nature and will simply not accept it. With regard to ongoing military cooperation (aka subservience) likely we must call on our relatives and friends in the military to break ranks and support us against government if and when it becomes necessary..
Ralph Prothero has got hold of a vastly exaggerated, bad analysis of the withdrawal treaty.
It is not perfect no. But providing the government continues to hold firm we really can be out end this year.
Basically, WE ARE ABLE TO WALK AWAY WITH NO TRADE AGREEMENT and with no agreement on defence, fishing, EWA, law, ECJ or anything else.
The Withdrawal Treaty makes Britain a bondslave of the European Union. Articles 4, 87, 89 &127 in the Withdrawal Treaty empower the Court of Justice of the EU to command British judges to nullify laws passed by British Parliaments if the CJEU considers those laws contrary to the spirit of the Treaty.
So the United Kingdom will continue to be subject to the Court of Justice of the EU when it is no longer a member of the EU. The Withdrawal Treaty is intended to change Britain from being a member of the EU into being a colony of the EU.
I am thinking of sending this article to my MP if I may.
Rodney Atkinson says anyone is free to circulate it wherever they like.
Starmer’s children are currently being educated at north London schools (Mail Online 08:06, 23 May 2020 | UPDATED: 11:18, 23 May 2020). They qualify because Starmer’s wife, Victoria is a “key NHS worker”. Victoria Starmer is a solicitor. In what conceivable way is she a key worker? Maybe she writes deathbed wills, for free for people dying of C19 (because “our NHS” bundled them out of hospital, into care homes)? Absolutely sickening. Starmer should resign – not Cummings.
Judging by the amount of newspapers left on stands within supermarkets and newsagents in the evening at the moment, whereas before this Covid situation you stood virtually no chance of buying a paper at that time, I think the writing is now on the wall and a lot of newspapers will go bust. It is not so much as the risk of catching the virus off the paper itself, but the fact that public no longer feel what is written in the columns is based on fact but based on the personal opinion of the journalist,and/or editor, which we don’t really want to know. Also bearing in mind that these supposed journalists have been to university and studied media whatever that is, their understanding of the English is pretty dire to say the least. Too much use is made of words like ‘boss’ whereas in days of old it would have been ‘manager’ and ‘dad’s’ and ‘mum’s’ whereas in better days they would have been called ‘fathers’ and ‘mothers’.
typo error-8th line should read English language.
The newspaper companies will struggle now to make hard copy sales break even. The logistics of the whole operation is just too expensive. Maybe they have got to the point when they would like every one of their readers to go to subscription on-line reading.
Oh bother! there goes my paper round! (age 73) But there are some good journos in the DT. I’ve volunteered to deliver in my locality because the Council has withdrawn permits for youngsters due to the bizarre idea that they might be in danger of catching the virus of an early morning out in the open air. You couldn’t make it up.
The Daily Telegraph is the exception to this of course. It is indeed a welcome oasis in a sea of garbage, however it is far too expensive to buy on a daily basis.
”A welcome oasis”? The Daily Telegraph? I’d have agreed up to a few months ago – but suddenly it became a hysterical, liberal leftie rag, full of third-rate writers who show no professionalism or flare, thinking themselves witty if they find a way of insulting the POTUS.
Ever since it began screaming ”be afraid” and causing panic buying and so forth, then moved on to ”we’re all doomed” day after day after day, it’s sunk very quickly.
I am so sickened by this degraded rag that I have cancelled my online subscription – even that’s too high a price for what is now such a rubbishy publication.
I’d much rather come to this site for a good overview of what we need to know day by day.
“It was not always so.”
Rodney what’s changed is the position of the front line in the ongoing battle between Western Freedoms and the totalitarians who strive for a world that closely resembles present day Communist China. (If that day ever comes the world might then be a lot worse than present day China.)
When I was a boy at school in Bulawayo in the then Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) I could compare what was happening where I lived and what I’d learned from my friends that’d moved down from Zambia with what I’d read in the sixth form Library in magazines like Newsweek and Time. The difference was quite staggering. I then went on to live in South Africa, on the next front line.
Now that I’m here in Blighty it comes to me as no surprise that the front line is now here. 90% of what we read is less than half true. We’ve now reached the point where they don’t even bother to hide it as your fine piece so ably demonstrates. I know from experience that this usually means they think they’ve already won and it’s all over bar the shouting.
Since I now have no intention of going anywhere else I watch this space with interest.
Nice article. I wonder if you could get the BBC to transmit it or the Guardian to publish it?
I’m not sure it would matter very much, even if they did. Fewer and fewer are reading, listening or viewing. I know many folks who no longer own voyeur-vision machines and no longer buy daily rags. Faith and trust in them have been destroyed, and it was their own doing.
Local newspapers are still worth reading, there is less spin in their reporting. But they are terrified of being sued if they discover corruption in local government, as they don’t have so much money to risk in legal proceedings. And corruption in local government has probably grown, since the National Audit Office was phased out.
Local newspapers worth a read, I don’t think. My local here newspaper here in Kent has a left leaning agenda. Back in January this year (Wednesday 29th January 2020 to be precise), one of their journalists somehow found out that I was a former UKIP branch chairman even though I had resigned from that party and joined the Brexit Party, and e-mailed me to ask whether we should celebrate leaving the European Union on the 31st January 2020. I gave it some thought and replied straight away which was positive and upbeat in content, stating the Union Jack should be flown on all public buildings, and that we would be celebrating in Parliament Square. When that edition came out on Friday 31st January 2020, there was a two page spread on the issue, and whilst the views of the Labour Party, Green Party and Liberal Democrats were printed, my contribution as an activist of the Brexit Party was not nor was there anything from the Conservative Party. It was obvious that my reply did not suit their narrative, in that this country should have remained within the European Union etc etc. I pressed the journalist in question why she hadn’t printed my contribution, and came up with a cock and bull story that she was part time and didn’t read email replies when off duty. The local paper is published by Reach, which I believe is part of the Mirror Group Newspapers, so no surprise there……
