Are they written by the signatories? Most likely not, and with that, the one from the EU, I would suspect, only had scant regard.
There is a place for diplomacy but were does the balance sit in terms of cultural differences and objectives. Given the behaviour and stance of the EU in the past I would have expected a far more business-like letter from our PM.
The case, I believe, is one where our politicians are having to return the Sovereignty they have stolen from us, the people of Great Britain.
But then they also have to go to the people they given that Sovereignty to, and ask for it back, so that they can return what they have stolen to the rightful owners.
This perspective, for me, this explains the style and content of Mrs May’s letter. It is almost a pathetic apology. Not the communication expected from the leader of a proud Nation.
For example the last sentence ‘strong partners’, I never saw us as being partners, captives would be more appropriate. ‘Close friends’, maybe for those political lackeys but clearly not for the British public. Finally ‘good neighbours’ well ‘good fences make good neighbours’.
Those weasel politicians need to toughen up and put right the wrongs they have done. The EU letter requires no comment.

Politicians just never read their history books unfortunately, maybe they should look up the Munich Agreement.
“Peace for our time”, another worthless piece of paper flapping in the wind. We all know how that ended.
The letters are not in the Treaty text itself. This is a poor attempt by May and the EU to obfuscate the situation. Besides, the signatories will be long gone by the time the transition ends, At that point the new incumbents will say, “Sorry guv, this was signed by my predecessor and these letters aren’t legally binding anyway.” Junker’s & Tusk’s terms ends in 2019, as I said they will be long gone.
Nice try EU & May, think we are THAT dumb?
This time, instead of the Sudetenland, Germany, in its new guise of the EU are annexing N. Ireland and turning the rest of the UK into a vassal state. Britain will be a conquered people once again.

The words in those 2 letters do nothing to alleviate my concerns in respect of our continued subservience to the EU. I was tempted to produce translations of them into their real meaning but quite frankly I’ve had more than enough of the shenanigans and just want a clean exit on 29 March.

The tool used by the enemy here is ignorance. Some are too busy in their careers, others “too busy” watching tv soaps and sports and too many with a view that government actually represents the interests of those who elected it.
How we get through to these people and reverse the indoctrination before war on the streets erupts is beyond me. Certainly UKIP, with the tarnished view of it promoted by the press, is not the vehicle for the job.

Quite frankly, I am no longer open to debate on anything that comes out of this PM’s deluded brain. Neither am I interested in giving any credence at all to the conniving, twisted utterings that emanate from any of the EU dictators.
As far as I am concerned the moot points here are:- A). the EU will never allow the UK to leave the ‘union’ easily or peacefully (they have too much to lose regarding sending out the wrong message to the other dissenters in the bloc!). B). Neither Mrs May nor any of her cohorts has the least bit of honour or integrity (thus she will – as a fully paid up Remainer – argue that black is white and white is green, red or yellow depending upon her current mood (so long as it gets her where she always wanted to be – firmly retained within the bowels of her beloved ‘European Union’!)
Give it up Mrs May……la la la la…..we cant hear you!!!!

is the most crucial part of this letter.
It confirms the AG’s already expressed Opinion ( which today he is maintaining clearly has not changed ) that as far as the legalities go there is no, repeat, ZERO, mechanism for the UK to make its own independent decision to exit the Backstop ( and all it entails, which is basically BRINO ).
All the rest of his letter of today’s [ 14 Jan ] date is political waffle and padding.

I totally agree with your comment. The EU and May are, once again, trying to confuse all concerned by using waffle and flannel to conceal a hideous ‘deal’ that will leave the UK eternally subject to the EU and without any say, whatsoever, in any future laws or rules or directives that the EU throws up.
That ‘dangerous fantasy’, that the liar Clegg so easily dismissed, is now a dangerous reality. That dangerous reality could see our children used against us by an unscrupulous EU. Remember Catalan? That situation, it seems, was an internal Spanish matter and nothing to do with the EU, (they say). I think differently !

The EU agrees that the backstop won’t be used for longer than necessary and that the EU will negotiate a permanent deal as soon as possible.
Wasn’t that how the whole thing was descried when presented? Has anything changed? (I dozed off while reading the letters so may have missed something)

What a load of bollox from the Attorney General or I could call it meaningless waffle if I were being polite. As for the others it’s late here so they can wait until the morning without any expection of a good outcome.

I hope nobody thinks Ms May had sat down and typed that letter herself, this morning – with Tusk (the letter must’ve been sent by carrier pigeon for the quick response!) sitting down immediately and penning his careful reply.
The bastards have prepared, drafted and polished this probably last week and then just added today’s date for ‘impact’.
They do think we’re offing idiots, don’t they!
