Address by the Convenor Hugh Moelwyn Hughes

Thank you all for attending.

The camaraderie of like minded people is important. The alternative of isolation and shouting at the television is barren and soul destroying whereas working together in a creative way is therapeutic.

Moreover, individuals can get nowhere in the world of politics. In order to make the world a better place we have to co-operate with our friends and here we know each other well enough to know which of us, if any, is in it for the money. Looking around today, I cannot see anyone who is here in expectation of financial gain. A modest financial sacrifice is the best we can hope for.

Fortunately Neil Hamilton, Ben Walker, Tom Harrison and George Pykof and other usurpers of UKIP are not here. Long may they be absent. Having destroyed UKIP in Wales, by alienating each of his fellow Welsh Assembly Members to the point where he was the only one left, and [supposedly] disbanding our successful Branches in Newport and South Wales East, Hamilton is now in the process of destroying UKIP nationally.

I worked for UKIP for 29 years, only to see it destroyed by one man and his acolytes. But that is enough about the past.

The only way to success for the Libertarian Parties is by co-operation. The Founding Principle of this association of Free Libertarians must be that the Libertarian Parties never put up candidates against each other.

And to that end like minded people in each County, and their equivalents, the 5 Regions in Wales, and the 8 Regions in Scotland,  should each form a self-governing Association to co-ordinate The Libertarian Movement in those areas.

As ever, the danger will be infiltrators, the carpetbaggers who seek financial advantage, and later the ambitious bureaucrats who charge eye watering sums in order to boss you about.

But a County based movement means that infiltration is more difficult – because you all know each other. And there will be no hierarchy trying to control you.

As a down-up grassroots movement we seek to complement the high quality talents of the present Leaders of the many Libertarian Parties. Those Parties will continue to govern themselves, and will, we hope, co-operate with each other.

Our County associations will be advisory only.

As we are the first of the County Associations may I suggest some basics for future consideration – that our South Wales East Association use standard committee procedures:

Those attending from the Region [County] can elect such officers as they wish – Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Convenor, and other functionaries as necessary. Committee Members could be elected, or we could treat all members attending each Association meeting as the committee.

Then we have to decide what we are here for. Here are some suggestions for your consideration:

No vaccine Passports – they are a precursor to digital identity and a Chinese Communist Party social credit system;

No to vaccinating children without parental consent;

No to the UN “Comprehensive Sexuality Education” (CSE) -in Britain called “Relationships and Sex Education” (RSE), a programme to sexualise children from a young age in order to undermine traditional family values. We should support parents who do not want their children to be confused by transgender ideology or taught explicitly sexual things in schools – apart from reproduction as taught in secondary school biology lessons.

Without Institutions we cannot process these considerations and because in South Wales East we have a cohesion which is unique in Wales, this is where we must start. In our patch we can consider, and, if so advised, adopt any proposal which furthers the founding aims of the Free Libertarians. In your County please consider these proposals, and adopt them as you think fit.

You will not have access to the membership or supporter base of any Party, because they, mistakenly, are wary of local “fiefdoms”. They have forgotten that the Conservatives, the most successful Party ever, have strong local institutions based on local friendships which endure, even when a vote for nominally Libertarian Boris means you get Woke Carrie.

Our County Associations will be more consistent than that.

So in creating your County Association of Free Libertarians you must rely on your own personal contact list, knowing that most of your contacts will have their own contacts. And that is how we, the underdogs, can create a grassroots libertarian movement.

We are here to make the world a better place.
