CHAOTIC EASTER OF PROTESTS FORECAST
The Daily Mail reports that several Kill The Bill protests are scheduled to take part in a National Weekend of Action’ over what could be a chaotic Easter, following more violent clashes in Bristol. Calls for protesters in all cities to gather to oppose controversial anti-protest legislation on Saturday April 3 have been shared widely online. Protests are expected to take place in London, Plymouth and Bournemouth on what is forecast to be a sunny weekend and the first to benefit from the easing of ‘stay at home’ lockdown restrictions. Kill the Bill demonstrators yesterday ignored officers’ pleas to stay at home as they marched in rallies across Britain – another night of violence in Bristol saw ten protestors arrested. In Manchester police made eighteen arrests yesterday, as pictures showed protesters clashing with officers.
THE DEVIL’S IN THE DETAIL
Reuters reports from the Vatican that Pope Francis led Palm Sunday services in an almost empty St. Peter’s Basilica because of coronavirus restrictions for the second consecutive year. In pre-coronavirus times, Palm Sunday, which marks the start of Holy Week and leads to Easter, tens of thousands of people would pack St. Peter’s Square holding olive branches and intricately woven palm fronds in an outdoor ceremony. “The Devil is taking advantage of the crisis to sow distrust, desperation and discord,” he said, adding that the pandemic had brought physical, psychological and spiritual suffering. Since he was elected in 2013, Francis has made clear that he believes the devil to be real, saying in a 2018 document that it was mistaken to consider him a myth. In a small-scale version of a traditional Palm Sunday service, the 84-year-old pope and the cardinals processed to the altar holding palm fronds. Palm Sunday commemorates the day the gospels say Jesus rode into Jerusalem and was hailed by the people, only to be crucified five days later.
RETURNING TO WORK COULD BE UNSAFE
The Guardian reports that millions of workers could be returning to unsafe workplaces without Covid risk assessments while the vaccines are still being rolled out and dangerous variants are circulating. A survey of union safety reps by the TUC suggests almost half of employers have not carried out a Covid risk assessment or have outdated, inadequate measures in place that may not prevent transmission of the virus. This comes as staff at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in Swansea prepare to strike over safety concerns following the largest workplace outbreak of the pandemic. The Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union notified the government agency last week that hundreds of staff in the Welsh city’s offices, where more than 600 workers tested positive, will walk out unless occupancy levels in the buildings are reduced.
WARNING FROM FORMER CHIEF CONSTABLE
The Guardian reports that a former police chief has warned that new protest laws move Britain dangerously towards paramilitary policing and that UK ministers are flexing their muscles via their police force like repressive regimes around the world. The warning from Michael Barton, the former Chief Constable of Durham comes as policing braces itself for a report expected within the next 48 hours after Metropolitan police officers were accused of heavy-handed tactics at a vigil on Clapham Common for Sarah Everard. The home secretary ordered a report expected on Monday or Tuesday from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary. The key question it will answer will be whether the Met’s actions were proportionate or not.
FREE HOME COVID TESTS FOR STAFF
The SUN reports that bosses will be able to offer free rapid Covid tests to staff to take at home as the government extends its workplace testing programme. Home test kits will be provided to firms with more than 10 employees where it is not possible to set up on-site testing, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said today. The DHSC urged firms to register by April 12 to access free lateral flow tests until the end of June. It was not clear whether the tests will be paid for after that point. The home tests are being targeted at companies unable to set up testing in the workplace, either because there is insufficient space or because they operate over multiple sites. Employees will be told to inform their bosses of a positive test result, as well as the NHS, which will offer them a confirmatory PCR test.
DELAY OF COVID TESTING MEANS 40,000 TRUCK DRIVERS WILL ENTER UK
The SUN reports that truck drivers arriving in the UK will need Covid tests from next week to stop mutant strains, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced today. Truckers travelling from outside Britain and Ireland must take a coronavirus test within 48 hours of arriving, then one every 72 hours after. It comes as cases surge across Europe, with one in ten infections in France linked to the South Africa strain, which experts fear is more resistant to vaccines. The new lateral flow testing rule, which kicks off from April 6, applies to all lorry drivers staying for more than two days. Delaying the move until April 6 means around 40,000 lorries will arrive in the UK before the mass testing plan starts.
TRACKERS AND GRADUATED DRIVING LICENCES FOR OLDIES
The Daily Mail reports that Drivers over the age of 70 who suffer from poor health could be allowed to retain their licences if they stick to roads in their local area. New proposals being discussed by the DVLA and Driving Mobility would also see elderly motorists installing a tracker on their vehicle as part of a ‘graduated driving licence’ scheme. The discussions come as data shows an increase in the number of drivers over the age of 70 on the road. Statistics also show that the number of deaths on the road involving motorists in this age group rose from 95 in 2010 to 145 in 2020.
RESPECT ISLAM
The Sunday Times reports that Muslim leaders in West Yorkshire are to warn Boris Johnson that Britain risks becoming like France if the government does not insist on respect for Islam. Adil Shahzad, imam of the Al-Hikam Institute in Bradford, said that a letter would be sent to the prime minister and to local MPs to show the strength of feeling after a teacher shared a cartoon of the prophet Muhammad. Many Muslim parents want the teacher, at nearby Batley Grammar School, sacked. ‘All we ask for is a bit of respect,’ ‘ Shahzad said, adding: If one teacher can do it, another teacher can do it five years down the line, and we do not want this to be the case.’
REJOINERS ATTEMPT TO TURN THE CLOCK BACK
The Express reports that a rejoiner organisation has launched a recruitment campaign to revive the pro-EU activist spirit and take the UK back into the bloc. Despite Britain completing its departure from the EU, The Young European Movement UK, has published a job application for a Youth Engagement Manager. As part of the team’s pursuit to reverse Brexit, the role will look to make a huge difference for young people across the UK, just five years after the referendum. Since the UK left the EU, rejoiner campaigns and movements have sprung up across the country despite the public voting to leave. Indeed, as many Britons filled out the census last week, Rejoin the EU urged the public to mark their nationality as European. In a post on its Facebook page, the group asked Britons to do so as it attempts to drag the country back into the EU.
WELSH FIRST MINISTER BACKS UK
The Express reports that Welsh First Minister and Labour leader Mark Drakeford has come under intense pressure to back independence, following a surge in support for a referendum in Wales. During a tense grilling on the BBC, host Andrew Marr pointed out it was very odd for a unionist party to have three Labour candidates in the upcoming election who backed Welsh independence. Mr Drakeford squirmed in response, as Mr Marr claimed that even a majority of his own party members are pro-Welsh independence. When pressed by Andrew Marr, the Welsh Labour leader insisted he was a unionist and so was his party although 51 percent of his party members are pro-independence.
SNP BELIEVES DREAM OF SCOTTISH INDEPENDENCE IS CLOSE
The Daily Record reports that the SNP is closer than ever to achieving their dream of an independent Scotland, the party’s deputy leader has claimed just hours after two MPs quit. Keith Brown pointed to the results of recent opinion polls showing more than half of Scots are in favour of leaving the UK – although some more recent polls have shown a drop in support. It comes as the Nationalist leadership is scrambling to deal with the launch of the new Alba Party by former first minister Alex Salmond. Two SNP MPs, Kenny MacAskill and Neale Hanvey, have this weekend walked out on Nicola Sturgeon’s party to join Alba.
AND FINALLY
From ‘My London’: A group of pensioners in West London face being fined and arrested after gathering to play dominoes and backgammon in a market square. A predominantly black Caribbean and Irish community from Maida Vale, the group could face action if they’re deemed to be causing noise and disruption. Westminster Council has secured a special injunction from the courts to allow officers to fine those that fall under this bracket. The over-50s who frequent the square claim that this order threatens to shut down the community mental health support system, developed over decades of friendships and of meetings for a coffee.
Sorry I’m late commenting on today’s news selection, but managed to get a game of golf am/pm and then went to buy a new hose reel and bedding plants.
Anyway first a word a bout the war on we ancient well experienced motorists, I make regular journeys from Midlands to Scotland to visit girl friend, can make visits to Cornwall/Devon to visit Brother’s family and cousin and other friends, visit daughters Midlands to Surreyand New castle oh and occasionally “commute” to Surrey for hospital check ups (hospital where I live was going to remove my kidney, hospital by daughter saved it – apparently it was also my best kidney) and I am a rural dweller , so train journeys awkward
Need I say anymore about taking me off from my normal full life and I’m also averse to travelling on public transport where people can still walk off a plane or ship and travel all over the country by bus or train.
Anyway this increase of 95 to 145 over 10 years possibly about 5 per cent per annum,
What has been the annual increase of over 70 licence holders? Wouldn’t surprise me if that was about 5 per cent or even higher.
Anyway how does 95 or 145 compare with other age groups, I’ll bet there’s worse ones around.
I remember way back this was a Torquay Chief Constable who was hot at getting us all on our simmers and electric scooters.
Bl&&dy Liberty
I was also going to comment on the Islam question, but again I’m a bit late to the discussion
I have read through some of the comments below and would point out that whether all Muslims are infected with base instincts or not,if they are so clean why don’t the goodies instead of standing silently by physically root out and destroy the baddies.
Surely if they are so overwhelmingly in the majority the solution to their gathering respect lies in their hands.
It’s not a bit of good some standing there wringing their hands and shedding crocodile tears drastic action is required, then they might aver they are entitled to some respect otherwise they must all sink together
Into the bear-pit that is religion, The God Delusion by Christopher Hitchens explains it all. I was born into a faith based family but knew in my early teens that I didn’t believe any of it. All wars start with religion so why bother? I have many religious friends who accepts me for who I am not what I believe. In fact one devout Christian tells everyone who bothers to listen that she thinks I am more of a Christian than any of the others that she knows. You don’t need religion to know the difference between right and wrong. May your God go with you.
My journey was in the opposite direction Lisa. Father atheist, mother agnostic. Prevented from going University, five years later went as mature student. Transferred, Economics to Philosophy. BA(hons)Philosophy, 1971.
Throughout I wondered but generally did not believe.
Eventually, aged around 60yrs, logic told me there is a God. Of all the conflicting accounts the Christian God is the most believable. Did an Alpha course and was Baptised.
I’m sure my beliefs and attitudes are far from any accepted dogmas even now.
You are quite right, I learned about my conscience, knowing right from wrong, long before I settled my religious opinions.
Meanwhile they are threatening to take me off the road because of my age. Excuse me but I have never been involved in a court case, for my very minor mistakes. Only once was any other person involved and he was not hurt.
One thing after another. Perhaps it will not happen.
More car crashes by old people is because there are far more old people. Makes you realise how little our authorities understand about anything.
You leave the EU and get a new totalitarian boss Johnson. It’s like The Who song.
Agreed Michael. Out of the frying pan into the fire.
May have missed report here on ID but Government as I fully expected chickened out on licence fee.
Only one way to remove licence fee – don’t pay it.
https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2021/03/poor-broadband-means-uk-gov-stuck-with-bbc-tv-licence-fee.html
Oh, so it’s about to become set in stone till 2027. ‘They’ slipped that one past us. Well I don’t pay it Jake. Actually I don’t watch any TV – plugs are out.
Daft thing is, I continue paying Sky for TV and broadband!
Caught up with a friend and his wife over the weekend. They had been stabbed with the flu moderator. Husband was OK. Wife no so. Two days in bed like death, then after three days was in garden and passed out face first onto concrete steps. Bad bruising and emergency dentistry. Not the first of such reports that I have come across.
Talking to aother friend this morning, she said she was down at the beach at the weekend. Loadsapeople, no masks, no bikinis, no distancing, no worries.
Guardian and returning to work = be afraid, be very afraid.
You can fool some of the people some of the time, you can fool most etc., etc..
Observing the rest of the news just irritates:
Pope declares the Devil exists OK. To paraphrase PPB – the Devil comes in many forms. He concocted that worse than yellow fever virus dontchaknow.
Meanwhile the highlight of the Christian calendar is celebrated with Easter Eggs by only one vendor in TessieCohen’s. The rest are chocolate eggs. May the pedophile prophet be praised.
Chief Constable – Britain dangerously moving towards paramilitary policing – towards? As CC you should know what the rest of us already know!
Nanny wants to get the over 70s drain on the No Health Sevice off the roads. Sounds like something Vince Cabal thought up.
Snp collapsing due to infighting – shame.
Remainers, like the song are ‘dead but wont lie down’.
Viv and Co – I don’t know how you and your crew stick at it day after day.
But thanks!
Heh – it’s to keep a record of the ongoing betrayal by both our government and the MSM. I’m blowed if we let the lying bastards get away with this just because they fondly believe we’ll have forgotten by next Tuesday. Not on my watch!
🙂
BraVO!!
Unlike you Biscotte, I don’t ‘do’ text speak very much, so I don’t know what PPB means.
However, I’m pretty sure the devil does exist and is very active in the world now. So I agree with the Pope on that one.
The head of the Church of England by contrast, is now working on behalf of Cultural Marxism – the work of the devil if you like.
Otherwise I agree with your comment, except it was a FORMER chief constable.
Perhaps your eyes need testing.
My wife was called ‘Princess’ Pauline. Add B for Baxter. Just habit I suppose, sorry.
That’s OK Biscotte. Forgive me if I call you Crispbread some time in future. I’m sorry your wife has gone.
My full name is Pauline Marian Baxter so I could call myself P.M. Baxter. Seems a bit pretentious don’t you think.
On the other hand idiots have called me pee this and pee that from time to time. Including Peeline.
A friend was teased at school for being I Ball. You’d think parents would know better. Especially as her father was Willie Ball.
Pauline…….what a hoot. Princess indeed…I think ‘Burnt Toast’ will suffice for the time being.
I foresee more road crashes as a result of their vile vaccine, than caused by over 70’s driving. I heard at least one report about someone passing out behind the wheel of a car within an hour or two of getting the rotten jab.
REJOINERS ATTEMPT TO TURN THE CLOCK BACK
This is why we need to work with like-minded friends in Europe to bring about the destruction of the EU. With so many Remoaners in Parliament that is the only way we can be sure of remaining independent. Surely there must be little understanding of the EU and its future plans for such support to exist?
Yes Jack, The Remainer undead. Zombies. They’re still around.
RESPECT ISLAM:
Not on your life! We need rid of this evil religion and its followers. I’m beginning to think that unchecked immigration of its followers was a deliberate intent by government to oppress us native Brits, just as Covid and the Great Global Warming Scam are being used more recently.
Why were workers from Islamic countries allowed in and given indefinite leave to remain? A sensible policy would have required time limited visas and work permits renewed annually. Add to that allowing thousands of mosques and it starts to look like just such a plan…
I would suggest that Islam, the religion, should be respected as much as any other mainstream religion around today. It is what some people do and say in the name of Islam that should be condemned in the strongest terms possible. The extremists are trying to get people to oppose anything Islamic in order to drive a wedge between us and moderate, mainstream Muslims who are happy to live in our society as it is. We must not alienate people who live law-abiding lives and try to integrate into our society and contribute to it. We must not become the same sort of extremists as some of them are.
….Islam, the religion, should be respected as much as any other mainstream religion around today’
The real test is whether it can also be disrespected like any other mainstream religion too. My religion Christianity has been disrespected in the form of mockery since the 1960s to my recollection. Sauce for the goose…….
All religions should be respected, especially Christianity in this country. We must learn to differentiate between a religion and what happens in it’s name. Eastern religions are from a different world to ours and tend to inspire intense emotions. There is no point in provoking a reaction by defaming the religion itself, but the religion should never be accepted as an excuse for bad behaviour or criminal actions.
If devout Christians have had to put up with mockery of their deeply held beliefs in the name of tolerance and free speech then there are no grounds whatsoever that other faiths be treated different
Two wrongs don’t make a right, Jake. Remember, we ask for our trespasses to be forgiven, just as we forgive those who trespass against us. That could turn out to be regrettable, I reckon.
@Phillip Smith
The ideology of Islam:
1. Death for Apostasy
2. Death for Homosexuality
3. Stoning for Adultery
4. Death for disrespecting Islam
5. Death for Blasphemy
6. A woman’s word is worth half that of a man’s
7. Female Genital Mutilation
8. Halal throat cutting
9. Honour killing
10. Rape of thousands of young white girls in our country
How can you possibly suggest that this “religion” be respected? And, by the way, this is what ALL Muslims believe in. There is no such thing as a “moderate” Muslim.
Ideology disguised as religion. Why so insistence on Respect? Could it be the whole charade falls apart when they cannot stone their critics?
Quite apart from Jesus saying ‘He that is without sin cast the first stone’. It amazes me that the prophet Muhammed coming hundreds of years later, taught that he knew better than Jesus.
It’s often forgotten that Jesus was a Jew. Isn’t it the case that Jews and Moslems originally came from the same racial stock?
Funny old world isn’t it.
Is God the God of Love or a god of Hate. Perhaps Dualism is true. There are two deities fighting it out. But the Ancient Hebrews ‘discovered’ there is just one true God.
Did God so love the world etc.
As Lisa says – the bear pit that is religion!
I don’t know where you get this information from, but from contact with Muslims, both within this country and abroad, I dispute you saying that ALL Muslims believe in the atrocities you list. I think that you are just stereotyping and are closing your mind. I have been treated by several specialist doctors with Islamic-sounding names, and I don’t believe that they go off raping white girls at the weekend.
This “information” is written in the Koran and the Hadith (the sayings of their so-called Prophet).
All Muslims are expected to adhere to these writings and although some may sit back and watch others carry out the deeds they must believe in it or they are not Muslims.
I didn’t suggest that all Muslims (including Muslim doctors) “go off raping white girls at the weekend” but they see it taking place by their fellow followers of the ideology and do nothing to stop it.
The last people to rely on explaining Islam to non believers, kuffars, are Muslims. This because it is contained in the Koran instructions to lie, to deceive by various means, even going as far as denying Islam if that denial promotes Islam. All Muslims must obey and believe in the Koran and for this reason the true nature of Islam must be obtained elsewhere, there is no picking out the “good bits ” of the Koran any more than picking out the “good bits” of say, Mein Kampft. They may however remain quiescent for long periods, even lifetimes, but to be Muslims they must submit to all of it, but this merely gives the (very useful) impression of moderation.
What about the Muslim doctors who fire bombed Glasgow Airport in 2007? I had occasion to talk to one of their neighbours a few years ago – very pleasant normal people according to him.
If you are really interested in discovering the true nature of Islam spend just a few quid on Harry Richardsons excellent book, “The Story of Mohammed – Islam Unveiled”
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Story-Mohammed-Islam-Unveiled/dp/1496019334?ref=silk_at_search
Sharia law to replace the host country’s law, by any means.
These things are in the Koran apparently and ALL Muslims are forced to believe and act on these rules or they are apostates and will be killed.
Many of us that call ourselves Christian, do not follow Christian precepts. However, if we did, those precepts themselves, are no way as outlandish and barbaric as the words of Allah.
Blair etc. was not acting on his Christian beliefs when he bombed Iraq.
Isn’t it time we left other Countries to find their own way. It is definitely time we made sure our country was safe from theirs.
How can you FORCE someone to believe something?
Agreed!
Well you can’t Force a GENUINE Belief, it’s true but think of any repressive societies, now and historically and even without torture, people will ‘toe the party line’. Even to the extent of joining in with the oppressive actions. If you don’t join in it will be noticed and the violence will be turned on you.
Fortunately UK has not reached that position yet.
So many battles to be fought and won Jack. The EU opened it’s borders to them. The UK is still suffering.
Well said sir, respect the cult to that prince of darkness never!
