Warning: Huge Squirrel Ahead!
What a difference a year makes! A year ago the government decided to lock down our country because of covid. At that time we were all ignorant about that virus but the various images crowding the MSM, from TV programmes to frontpages, were sufficiently scary.
However, to displace the necessary debate about how this government drifted from one that is accountable to us, through our elected representatives, to one where we’re governed by unaccountable SAGEs, a giant squirrel has been produced. Yes, some papers have got their ‘health’ reporters and editors trying to produce an ‘analysis’. Here’s one quote which ought to have set the ball rolling:
“The Telegraph has learnt that the pivotal moment in imposing lockdown came on March 14 last year – nine days before lockdown started – when Mr Johnson was shown evidence that ministers and scientific advisers had badly miscalculated how quickly the NHS would be overwhelmed. The Prime Minister was “stunned” to be told by a Number 10 data analyst at a hurriedly-convened Saturday meeting that his “squash the sombrero” policy was not working and that hospitals were as little as three weeks away from being past capacity.” (paywalled link)
Instead of finding out who this ‘No 10 data analyst’ actually was, instead of asking, even in retrospect, why no time was given to see if ‘squash the sombrero’ would actually work, instead of opening a critical debate we’ve got the wall-to-wall cry: ‘look – a squirrel’! It’s the ongoing ‘outrage’ about the Clapham Common vigil and about violence against women. Again, data are bandied about – and again, just as with lockdown, it’s actually about behavioural change. “Men” must change, policing must change, but one entity doesn’t ever have to change: ‘our MSM’.
I’ll mention in passing that we’re again witnessing mawkish virtue-signalling according to which everything must be allowed, even the breaking of covid rules, because victimhood trumps all. This time, half the population is a victim, making the other half the perpetrator – aided and abetted by opinion writers in the MSM who are driving the debate. The comment piece in the DT, by the ‘police, fire and crime commissioner for North Yorkshire, Ms Julia Mulligan’, under the headlines “Police have a duty to victims to admit they got it wrong at the Sarah Everard vigil” (paywalled link) shows nicely how this narrative is going to be framed: ‘victims’ are in the right and non-victims must apologise.
Note well that it’s the ‘online narrative’ which counts, as the subtitle makes painfully obvious: “Forces believe they have made strides in giving women more confidence to report crimes, but the narrative online has differed this week”. For ‘online narrative’ read ‘hashtagged outrage on twitter’. What chance do facts have when ‘victims’ feelings’ are deemed to matter more! There’s one other paragraph which demonstrates the woolly thinking involved in framing that narrative. Ms Mulligan writes:
“Early on Sunday morning, my eldest teenage daughter confronted me in the kitchen, aghast. “Mum, how can the police expect women to go to them for help, when they arrest us for making a speech? And why are men allowed to get away with it when we are not?” Social media was awash with pictures of the police standing by and allowing Rangers fans to celebrate their victory over St Mirren with impunity. The fact that Police Scotland made 28 arrests that night was nowhere to be seen.” (paywalled link)
Indeed it wasn’t – and whose fault is that? I wonder if that Police etc Commissioner pointed out to her daughter that men didn’t ‘get away’ with it but that the MSM didn’t mention those arrests. Why didn’t they? Was it because this was only about a male football crowd? Was perhaps the “females are victims” narrative already being framed? How come we’re handing the narrative-framing power to the unaccountable MSM? Who actually gave them the power to do so? A factual statement like this one, smuggled in between ‘outrage’ paragraphs:
“The vigil on Clapham Common was initially peaceful. Police officers moved in to disperse crowds after dark and arrested three women, two of them teenagers, and one man.” (link, paywalled)
is clearly inadequate to ‘frame the narrative’ of ‘all females are victims’! It seems that the various chief editors are thoroughly scared of not screaming the latest hashtag outrage from their front pages. Instead of reporting calmly on what actually happened they’ll do anything to fuel the manufactured flames of female outrage: social media mobs rule ok!
In support of yon narrative we’re presented with more statements- this next one is actually naming names and isn’t just quoting ‘a source’. Health warning: put down your mug or glass before reading and don’t splutter over your screen and keyboard:
“Nimco Ali, who is advising the government on tackling violence against women and girls, compared the Met’s behaviour to that of an abuser. She told Times Radio: “It does come from a handbook of abusive men, where . . . you’re constantly blaming the victim for your act of violence.” (link, paywalled)
Ms Nimco Ali is a ‘friend of Carrie’, according to a quote I published yesterday (here). As for her painting the police and by implication all men as using this fictional ‘handbook of abusive men’ – oh dear! Shouldn’t Ms Ali have asked instead how come the Met Chief, Ms Dick, allowed such alleged ‘culture’ from this alleged ‘handbook’ to prevail in her police force?
The funny thing though is that, by blaming the police, by saying that nothing would have happened had they not been there, those commentators don’t seem to notice that it’s now the police officers who’ve become the victims when they use the mantra that ‘the police made us do it’ … Anyway, they’ll use this excuse when defending any acts of violence and vandalism being perpetrated by ‘activists’ in future demos or ‘vigils’.
Meanwhile there’s an opinion piece in The Times where the author is lovingly adding details to this narrative’s frame. Under the headline “The Met’s dumb mistakes at Clapham Common turned Sarah Everard’s vigil into a protest” Ms Turner contrasts the dumb, male police ‘brutes’ with the soft, gentle, female protestors who ‘will have experienced a ‘feminist awakening’ – yes, she really wrote that! Are we now getting the ‘feminist woke’ version? This next sentence made me again bounce off the walls in fury:
“A male anti-lockdown campaigner who tried to mansplain to the crowd was shut down with cries of “not your place!” (link, paywalled)
Indeed – how dare he! Let no outraged female allow a mere man to speak! He’s only ‘mansplaining’ and no woman needs to listen to that! Does Ms Turner, do all those writers and hashtag exploiters not see where this is going? Do they not understand that denying someone his freedom of speech because of his gender is profoundly disturbing? It doesn’t matter that this bloke was not exactly tactful for having gone to this all-female demo: does he not have the right to do so? Would they have dared to say this if that man had been of a darker complexion?
Meanwhile, we’re going to be treated to an ‘investigation’, and ‘lessons will be learned’. We can be certain of that because certain male opinion writers are already signalling their surrender. Mr Timothy in the DT has written a long comment piece about how “we” must deal properly with male violence, incarcerating them and so forth (paywalled link). The point he overlooks – the point which all those outraged female writers and hashtag followers don’t mention – is that the same crowd, now so outraged, has been campaigning for years, if not decades, for lenient prison sentences.
It’s the left who has installed this culture of being kind to offenders in our criminal justice system. Calling for hard prison sentences, asking that ‘for life’ actually does mean ‘for life’ and not a release after some years, has been deemed to be unacceptably ‘extreme right wing’ for decades. I’m not going to mention that a certain group of criminals wasn’t prosecuted because of ‘community cohesion’. I’ll also not mention that there is a certain ‘handbook’ which does not just condone but prescribes violence against women: elephants in the corner mustn’t be mentioned.
The final twist to this sorry tale is that, on the back of this ‘outrage’, Labour will now not vote for giving the police more powers, for example in regulating demos (link, paywalled and paywalled link). Savour this remark by Mr Lammy (Lab):
“David Lammy, the shadow justice secretary, said that the killing of Sarah Everardhad “instigated a national demand for action to tackle violence against women”, making it “no time to be rushing through poorly thought-out measures to impose disproportionate controls on free expression”. (link, paywalled)
Don’t make the mistake of taking ‘free expression’ as meaning ‘Freedom of Speech’! Lammy means that demos must be allowed to go on, from BLM to green stuff, and never mind if those demonstrators commit acts of vandalism or violence against the police! At the same time, people mustn’t be allowed to have their say, they can be ‘cancelled’ – especially if they’re male. Do they not see that, outrage about violence against women notwithstanding, they are creating a society divided by gender where violence against males by males isn’t noteworthy because they’re ‘only men’?
Is this the future of our society, that Justitia must no longer be blind to colour or gender but mete out justice according to the latest hashtag mob? Are we no longer going to be equal before the Law? Is that the ‘lesson’ we must now learn?
KBO!
How strange it is reading examples of peoples attempts to rationalise the recent, and not so recent events in the public focus. Those explanations and complaints assume we live in a civilised, sane world that is somehow going a little awry but with a few corrections sense will prevail.
No!
We are living in a madhouse where your neighbour, nay your brother, your sister, even your best friend is quite happy in oblivion of what is happening to their freedoms. Their medical freedom, their freedom of association, speech, movement and their freedom to privacy is being taken away from them and they acquiesce, complicit in their compliance. As happy as pigs in shit, excuse my language.
Women, men, black, white? Do these labels matter? No! We are fed madness and lap it up with the eagerness of hungry cretins. “Please, sir, May I have some more please?” The only thing I see from this Clapham Common incident is that Dick is compromised, nothing more.
Today I received a second dose of mailed junk from a political party. Smiley faces, probably very nice people with loving relationships and well-meaning aspirations and of course the money to do mail drops while others are locked up.
Unless we wake up from this sleepwalk and get these people out of power we will continue to be patients in the asylum. Of course that will never happen just look around you. Where is the beer!
Kim Well said. Too bloody true.
Today (Tues) postman brought me junk from 2 political parties. Beat you Kim!
It would be good if Cressida Dick is toppled by Clapham Common.
Kim is right isn’t he mary. The only issue that really matters now is that we are losing all our freedoms.
I wonder just why it is that Boris seems to think that the Police did not have enough ‘existing’ powers in place to deal with the BLM and XR demos. Why does there need to be more legislation? I would have thought that the existing laws of this land were more than robots enough for the job! My main worry is that, under the guise of dealing with said BLM and XR, this proposed bill will actually contain clauses expressly designed to prevent the rest of us plebs from demonstrating our dissent about the, ever increasing, draconian measures being heaped upon us! This government has demonstrated that it is prepared to go to extraordinary lengths to crush the freedoms and rights of the truly oppressed (i.e. we ordinary and usually well behaved masses!) under cover of the message that ‘we are dealing with those ‘naughty BLM and XR hooligans’!!!! Gotcha!
Frederica, you have hit the nail on the head. Of course there is sufficient existing legislation in place already to deal with wrongdoers in BLM or any other disruptive demonstration. However the sad fact of the matter is that we have utter idiots running the country at the moment who want to stifle all forms of free speech and protest. That is the sum of it really…….
“under the guise of dealing with said BLM…bill will actually contain clauses expressly designed to prevent the rest of us plebs from demonstrating our dissent about the, ever increasing, draconian measures being heaped upon us! ”
Spot on Thats how they operate constrantly
PS Thinking they’re idiots will never solve the problem. Its deliberate; and unless all concerned get that in their heads, we’ll never solve this or get out of this hell.
PS
On Conwom today, under article link below , there is a long comment by “Pretty Polly” which is well worth reading detailing the sorts of dirty dealings by our politicians with the Deep State devils. Our politicians : Idiots or evil criminals?
https://www.conservativewoman.co.uk/i-hate-what-is-being-done-to-my-country/
The last paragraph in “Your Daily Betrayal” above says : “Is this the future of our society, that Justitia must no longer be blind to colour or gender but mete out justice according to the latest hashtag mob? Are we no longer going to be equal before the Law? Is that the ‘lesson’ we must now learn?”.
No doubt that is the lesson we will all have to learn in the future, but it’s the lesson we’ve had to learn ever since the 1960’s also. And the police are left in no doubt about it.
The 2002 Hate Crime Manual of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) says on page 7 that “Colour-blind policing means policing that purports to treat everyone the same way. Such an approach is flawed and unjust”. It’s flawed and unjust to treat everyone the same way!!
Hence the police must not to treat everyone the same way. Instead they must give the “sacred cow” groups, supposedly victims of Racism (which is always white) and of all the other Hate Crimes, more protection than others.
The politicians we elected made laws about social gathering.
The police have to enforce them, whatever it takes.
Whatever happened to Boris’s water cannon?
A good soaking would have sent these silly bints home.
They might well have set the freedom from lockdown back by months with their stupid actions.
Where were they when kids were being abducted and raped?.
But then where were the police when BLM was breaking the same law?
Where were the police when statues were being vandalised?
Harry Again (oh not him again). The water cannon purchased by the Metropolitan Police were sold a few years back. Come on keep up……..
There is a great parallel between the Covid and Climate Emergency playbooks.
Yes, squirrels, as Viv likes to call them, plus keeping the ball deep in your opponents half, and prohibiting any dissenting views, however learned.
WITH CLIMATE CHANGE, everywhere we see discussion
on limiting CO2, or carbon as it is misrepresented (one is an invisible trace gas that enables life on Earth – the other is soot), and never mind the cost to ordinary people.
The whole game has managed to move out of the territory of discussing
whether limiting CO2 will actually have any effect (it won’t, by the way; well as they pretend it will.)
But more importantly it has moved way out of the territory of discussing the actual proposition,
whether there is an emergency at all (there isn’t, by the way.)
And discussion of the untold potential damage,
of the long term effects of the oligarchs’ ‘remedy’, zero carbon (utterly impossible to achieve, by the way), for the fake emergency, is absolutely not allowed.
WITH COVID, everywhere we see discussion
of how to distribute the ‘vaccine’ as it is misrepresented (it is not a vaccine, by the way, by any normal definition) and what new fear/reason can be misrepresented for maintaining lockdowns; and never mind the cost to ordinary people.
The whole game has managed to move out of the territory of discussing
whether the ‘vaccine’ is safe (it isn’t, by the way) and whether it even works (it doesn’t, by the way, except to limit symptoms) and whether lockdowns even work (they don’t, by the way.)
But more importantly it has moved way out of the territory of discussing the actual proposition,
whether there is any emergency at all (there isn’t, by the way: certainly not one that could not have been mitigated by selective shielding and provision of cheap, readily available, long approved, drugs.)
And discussion of the untold potential damage,
the danger to the human race of the oligarchs’ ‘remedy’, Human Genome Ver.2.0 and depopulation (a very real prospect), for the fake emergency, is absolutely not allowed.
Actually Phil, I’m a bit disappointed because I thought covid would be like Myxomatosis in rabbits, and clear out large sections of tightly packed ghettos
A few examples in history of such slum clearance Mike.
A stealthy stiletto. Thank you.
JF
Mike, The virus may not this time around, but with the vaccine’s help in restructuring our immune response, it may well clear out large sections of everywhere in due course. This is why Gates could not suppress a smirk when he said people may not be taking this pandemic too seriously but would have to take notice of the next. He’s long publicly advocated a target of just 500million for the world population. But he may have unleashed a monster he cannot control.
“unleashed a monster he cannot control”. Wouldn’t it be lovely at least though ,if that monster turned and bit back the likes of him !
Vernon Coleman has written explaining about this issue recently, among other people I believe.

Health section 2nd item down
Phil O’Sophical. After your comment 9.50pm Mon. I understand a bit better why you believe we are threatened by genome change and depopulation.
Presumably, only those who have not had the virus OR the vaccine will be the only people surviving.
Since no virus can be eradicated once unleashed it rather looks like it is ‘out of control’.
Phil O’Sophical. I agree with the whole of your Comment. Except the last paragraph. I’m not convinced there is a conspiracy to change the human genome or a deliberate plan to effect depopulation.
The Climate Change due to CO2 SCAM wasn’t going to destroy Western Economies fast enough. So the Covid SCAMdemic was unleashed.
And like you say – any discussion of the genuine propositions, has been prevented.
Phil O’Sophical, as you write : “…. discussion of the untold potential damage, of the long term effects of the oligarchs’ ‘remedy’, zero carbon (utterly impossible to achieve, by the way), for the fake emergency, is absolutely not allowed.”…. The damage wreaked by ‘zero carbon’ won’t be potential, it will be the actual ruination of the industry & economy of any countries silly enough to try ‘decarbonisation’.
Only western countries seem to be silly enough to try it, with the UK easily the silliest among them so far. People in the UK can look forward to skyrocketing electricity bills and frequent power cuts from their hopeless wind and solar sources.
Correct Ralph.
Did these women not realize just why these restrictions on meetings are there? The virus knows no politics, no gender, no ethnicity, no age, or no anything else. The virus is totally indiscriminate, and by gathering at all these women have made themselves ambassadors of infection. They should have been grateful for the gathering that they were allowed and should have left the area when asked to do so. It ended up looking like St Trinian’s without the hockey sticks.
Dont feed the troll re the three day to three week flu.
Come come, Burnt Toast, everyone is a troll now in your eyes. Trolls normally use psuedonyms and not real names………..
Colin. I don’t know exactly what ‘troll’ means. However, that comment by ‘Philip Smith’ was obviously designed by someone or something intent on keeping us all locked down permanently.
And if you notice Harry Again has accused the ‘silly bints’ of delaying release by the gathering. It’s making an excuse to not lift lock downs.
You jump to conclusions too quickly. I shall expect all these restrictions to end when the threat of Covid-19 is under control. If they are inconvenient to some people then that is just tough. We didn’t ask for this virus to infect us but we have to defend ourselves now it is here. If you reply to this then please get my name right.
The restrictions will never end, wake up. Can’t you see that the goalposts keep being moved every time figures improve. Deaths fall so look at cases. Cases fall so look at infections. Infections based on a discredited PCR test run to as many cycles as will give sufficient positives to keep the narrative going. The hospitals that are always on the verge of being overwhelmed that are merely run to 95% occupancy as in every winter as that’s more efficient for the managers.
Average age of death from Covid is 82, a year more than the average mortality. Disease is almost irrelevant to anyone under 50 but lock down everyone and crater the economy and all our hard won social and legal freedoms. Childrens’ development set back years. Untreated cancers and other far more serious conditions at appalling levels. Nuremberg Code violating soft and soon maybe hard coercion to have experimental unlicensed “vaccines” most don’t need.
This will only end when unquestioning gulls and virtue signalling collaborators (no offence) wake up and refuse to go along with this steady fall into authoritarianism.
Pauline….Biscotte is talking about Internet trolls who are people who spend their entire life on websites criticising others or more to the point being obnoxious and abusive towards other posters. Most of them use psuedonyms and do not use their real names so they can’t be traced. Obviously Biscotte doesn’t use his/her real name for that reason and but he/she doesn’t quite fit into that category but accuses others posters such as myself of being a troll on account of my apparent obsession with alcohol and time travel. At the end of the day its just a bit of light hearted banter insofar as TGS is concerned. One cannot take life too seriously, especially when dealing with political matters.
Two ‘points’.
The bill being – err – ‘debated’ today is badly worded. It is so vague that police can be directed to shut down any form of protest that the dictator wants to silence.
The WHOLE ISSUE may be a large squirrel. Today is the day the VACCINE PASSPORTS petitions are to be discussed.
The police have been throwing women to the ground and handcuffing them behind their backs for standing in a public place since last summer – I’ve been watching it and fuming with anger – but it largely escaped public notice on grounds ‘they’d never do that unless a serious offence had been committed’.
In Clapham they hit on a group that could generate public awareness about it via the media. It may not be fair that a ‘hashtag’ group gets the coverage but it’s very helpful generally. Now the cat is out the bag. The Government wants to ban protest and treat protestors as serious criminals. It’s all part of making human rights privileges. But they did not want to outright create a legal ban since it looks terrible. So they left the law sneakily vague to have their cake and eat it – with exception of a few weeks last summer when protest was in the law. After around three weeks they quietly removed it again.
The current law does not specifically permit or specifically ban. Low animal cunning typical of politicians.
Its been going on for a long time. Since before Tommy Robinson prevented from addressing crowd at Speakers Corner (BC – before covid).
What would also not have come to a lot of observers were the Large number of men dressed in black with black balaclavas hiding their faces spread among the “activists for some reason!”
I think this is another push in a campaign towards the selective application of the law. From institutionally racist the police are heading, being led, towards regimented politically correct. Everyone loses.
Oxford English Dictionary:-
