The Albert Hall – another bastion of patriotism sacrificed on the altar of woke
Will no one rid us of these meddlesome, ‘woke’ priestesses? I’m paraphrasing Henry II because, thanks to ‘gender equality’, it’s laydees who are taking the axe to our institutions and culture, blatantly pushing the BLM ideology.
I’ll look at three items which had me fuming since yesterday: the BBC’s “Last Night at the Proms”, the British Library and ‘Our NHS’. It goes without saying that the broadsheets have again copied from each other.
Let’s start with ‘Our NHS’. It has taken five months for ‘Our MSM’ to report officially that ‘Our Sacred Cow’ told Care Homes to put out a blanket “DNR” (Do Not Resuscitate) notice on all their inmates (paywalled links here and here) This has been mentioned in local papers and on blogs such as Lockdown Sceptics ages ago.
What is infuriating isn’t just the fact that this was put into place by ‘Trust Staff’, not by staff in those care homes, nor that this was also applied to those with what is coyly called ‘learning difficulties’, it’s this:
“Staff also warned that some hospitals were operating a ‘no admissions’ policy for care home residents – even for non-Covid-19 conditions such as heart attacks – and some said they had struggled to make appointments with GPs for elderly people.” (paywalled link)
I apologise to all the good GPs and doctors out there – I understand that they’ve been told not to speak out in public. However, I have to say that a large number of them seems to have broken their Oath by letting managers, not clinicians, make such life-and-death decisions. That some are even unwilling to treat patients with non-Covid illnesses just because they’re in a care home is unforgivable!
There’s another piece to put into the Post-Covid Madness puzzle. It shows clearly how government, in the form of Hancock, is going to sell mass testing, aiming to test four million people a day from next year onwards. It’s to catch all those ‘asymptomatic’ CV-19 lepers:
“Matt Hancock […] has contracted Deloitte as consultants to help develop a mass testing regime that would identify asymptomatic carriers of the coronavirus, most of whom are currently missed by the current test and tracing. Such mass testing would allow ministers to see exactly where outbreaks are and stop infected people unknowingly spreading it. Mr Hancock also sees it as a critical to easing remaining restrictions on businesses and meeting family and friends.” (paywalled link)
Leaving aside the point that we peasants will have to pay astronomical fees to a management consultancy, we’re now being fed the next reason to comply with post-covid madness edicts: get tested or it’ll be your fault when local businesses collapse!
But if we comply like good little sheep, letting ourselves be tested regardless – will our GPs even look at us when we come down with something else? Who knows if an elderly person needing to go to hospital might not end up in the mortuary, thanks to ‘DNR’? How do we know that doctors or GPs are basing their decisions on clinical data and not on the latest covid-edicts given out by NHS managers?
And so to the BBC and the ‘Last Night at the Proms’. The Times reported yesterday that:
“The BBC is discussing whether to drop Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory from the Last Night of the Proms in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement. The traditional anthems are hugely popular with the flag-waving prommers who ordinarily cram into the Royal Albert Hall, but organisers fear a backlash because of their perceived association with colonialism and slavery.” (link, paywalled)
You really couldn’t make this up! And do note how the sloppy language used in that report implies that the Prommers might be ‘perceived’ to be associated with ‘colonialism and slavery’ because they love these ‘popular anthems’.
This jaw-dropping report was dutifully picked up by the DT in yesterday’s late afternoon. They’re not even hiding that they’re regurgitating what The Times published. Apparently, they’ve not been able to find a BBC spokesperson to deny or reaffirm that the BBC is trying to run the Proms in support of BLM. That doesn’t outrage either The Times or the DT! Instead, the reason given is … Covid! See this:
“This year’s concerts will be performed by a smaller orchestra, and without a live audience. Jan Younghusband, the head of BBC music TV commissioning, confirmed that the performance of Rule Britannia was under review. “We have a lot of problems about how many instruments we can have. It is hard to know whether it is physically possible to do [Rule, Britannia!]” she told the Sunday Times. “Some of the traditional tunes, like Jerusalem, are easier to perform … We also don’t know if we’ll be in a worse situation in two weeks’ time.” (paywalled link)
‘Rule Britannia’ was composed 250 or so years ago – it doesn’t need a huge modern orchestra! No – this is about BLM, about ‘woke culture’, about cancelling the musical oiks who wave the Union Jack!
Well, if there’s no live audience anyway, why would anyone want to watch whatever the BBC and the mostly female protagonists are going to replace it with! And yes – this is driven by women:
“Dalia Stasevska, 35, from Finland, who is conducting the Last Night, is among those said to be keen to modernise the evening’s repertoire and reduce the patriotic elements. A BBC source said: “Dalia is a big supporter of Black Lives Matter and thinks a ceremony without an audience is the perfect moment to bring change.” (link, paywalled)
She is conferring with the South African soprano who would have to perform ‘Rule Britannia’, both being “concerned about how to strike a sombre tone during a global pandemic and how to respond to the ongoing debates over race equality”. Oh yes, let’s all go about in sackcloth and ashes because of BAME and Covid!
This is how it used to be done (it might cheer you up!) – and that’s why the woke BBC wants to scrap it! Here’s the woke reason for silently also dropping “Land of Hope and Glory”, another of our favourite, patriotic songs:
“Edward Elgar wrote the music to “Land of Hope and Glory” and Arthur Benson added the lyrics in 1902, extolling the virtues of empire. They were said to be inspired by Cecil Rhodes, who left a fortune plundered from southern Africa.” (link, paywalled)
Yep – ‘tis because of ‘Empire’ and ‘Rhodes’, so un-woke! Meanwhile, the outgoing BBC Director General will give a speech today, as reported in both broadsheets, with The Times copying the DT this time. Do take some tranquilisers now, before reading this:
“Britain needs the BBC more than ever to promote the country’s “voice and values” after Brexit, Lord Hall will claim on Monday. […] The BBC needs more taxpayers’ money to combat a “second pandemic” of fake news spread by Russia and China, he will claim.” (paywalled link)
Words simply fail me! Not a penny for this woke organisation which is trampling our culture into the dust and which is now even trying to eradicate songs that have stirred us in the darkest times!
The BBC is in ‘good company’, though. The British Library, the deposit of all things published in Great Britain, is now also going ‘woke’:
“Internal emails reveal a policy-guiding staff group claimed racial “colour blindness” and believing mankind is “one human family” are examples of “covert white supremacy”. As an “anti-racist” antidote to perceived prejudice, resources disseminated at the library urge employees to give money to Black Lives Matter and support the work of Diane Abbott, the Labour politician. White staff also asked “fellow white colleagues” to educate themselves with a reading list covering their purported racial privilege, and the works of Marxist authors.” (paywalled link)
Some Tory MPs are now demanding the British Library should lose taxpayers’ funding when they were informed that:
“Leadership at the library, which receives more than £92 million in funding from the Government, declared in July that the institution would become an “actively” anti-racist organisation following feedback from staff. Members of the Bame Network, which helped compile material seen by this newspaper, will now lead a working group steering the library’s future approach to race.” (paywalled link)
We are paying for our national library to become ‘woke’. We are paying for our patriotic songs which have cheered millions to be scrapped because: ‘woke’. We are paying for not being treated by our GPs and ‘Our NHS’. Are you angry yet?
As for Brexit – well, Gove is working hard on it, but note this little piece of info, slipped in, surreptitiously:
“[Gove spends] the bulk of his time preparing for a no-deal departure. The latest talks between Lord Frost, the UK’s lead negotiator, and Michel Barnier, his EU counterpart, made no progress last week.” (link, paywalled)
So David Frost has been ‘created Baron Frost of Allenton in the County of Derbyshire’ – on August 12th 2020 (link). That has totally slipped past me – I guess I’m not the only one …
I leave you with news that our dear Mandarins have been busy, drawing up plans for a ‘worst-case scenario’:
“An emergency blueprint for responding to a no-deal Brexit coinciding with a sharp rise in coronavirus infections has been drawn up at Whitehall. The plans include deploying the army to the streets to help police manage public disorder and sending the navy to sea to prevent clashes between British and EU fishing boats, according to The Sun on Sunday.” (link, paywalled)
Nothing about illegal immigrants – they’ll probably stay in France during the harsh autumn and winter weather. I do wonder though what sort of ‘public disorder’ those mandarins are envisaging. Hordes of muzzle-wearing Remainers clashing with muzzle-refusenik Brexiteers?
Perhaps singing “Rule Britannia” and “Land of Hope and Glory” in public will now become a public order offense?
Never mind – it’ll all be paid for by us peasants!
KBO!
Re the Proms: I used to watch it over a decade ago, but they now play a dirty trick on us; They advertise a favourite symphony to be performed in the first half, so you tune in at 7.30pm to listen to it, only to be forced first to listen to some ghastly “modern” plinks and plonks for about 40 minutes. You have to stay tuned through all this since you dont know exactly when the symphony will start. Then someone gasses on for a long time. Then the symphony.
I got so fed up with it I ‘d go off and listen to my own CD recording of same symphony.
I really think they deliberately were trying to reduce viewings .
Reading Viv today and particularly the DNR notices, I thought I must be living in Nazi Germany.
Then I thought ‘no it is East Berlin under Communist rule’.
Is THIS really BRITAIN in 2020?
Re: the NHS and GPS. My favourite quotation is from Jane Eyre “I must keep in good health and not die”.
Re: the perfidious BBC. Don’t pay!
When I was a child my favourite 78 record played on our very old wind up gramophone was “Land of Hope & Glory”. It still is my favourite, closely followed by “Jerusalem” and “Rule Britannia”. I have all three on CD and will play them at full blast any time I like whilst sticking up two fingers to the Treacherous, treasonous, apparatchiks that currently inhabit what used to be the bastion of British patriotism and nationhood. Shame on them all!
Indeed – shame on them! But good for you, for blasting these songs out whenever!
It seems the BBC has ‘removed’ the excellent version of Rule Britannia sung by Jonas Kaufmann in 2015 (he’d most brilliantly sung Nessum Dorma before that, too!) – and there’s only a decrepit old recording from the 100th Prom in 1994, form a German Tv programme. That ws the one with Bryn Terfel, all dolled up in Welsh stuff. Gawd – he was young then … and gawd, what a voice!
Yep, shame on the BBC and those woke ‘artists’.
I remember Bryan Terfel. As you say…what a voice!
We used to sing Jerusalem regularly at school assemblies and it was a staple on our school lunch party programme Then, visiting dignitaries were invited to a concert and lunched with specially selected girls and staff whom the headmistress deemed to be worthy of the honour!!! Then it was sung by the choir in a special arrangement. (I had a fair voice then!!!) it sent shivers up my spine then and still does today. What sort of school was this you might ask? Answer… a normal, state run girls grammar school with a martinet for headmistress! We had the best times. I don’t think they will ever come again!
“Britain needs the BBC more than ever to promote the country’s “voice and values” after Brexit”
Hahahahahahahaha. Full stop.
I obviously haven`t been paying attention.
Viv`s advice that there have been notices issued known as DNR (Do not Resuscitate) en masse is news to me.
When I read the circumstances Viv detailed, my immediate reaction was this is monstrous and I thought, if true – criminal.
This afternoon I had a call from my younger daughter and I related to her what I had read here. It appeared she had been well aware of the situation for some time quoting programs like Panorama and Dispatches she too agreed this was monstrous and she too queried why “nothing had been done about it” quickly adding that “they” have no interest at all in the old who are “disposable”
My daughter also agreed that as a young 85 year old I was directly in the firing line.
Personally what I cannot understand such is the enormity of all these dastardly dealings and now so overt, that there is not a public outcry, where is the MSM “moral compass”? indeed where is that of anybody in the government or their partners in what must be regarded as a conspiracy of silence at least or culpable elderly persons genocide.?
A French word springs to mind j`accuse Is there nobody preparing and publishing a document detailing and assembling the various elements of this grand crime as an indictment, surely the European Court of Human Rights must have some observations in the matter, despite our doubts about its function.
Yes Roger. NHS hospital managers gave care homes the advice “Do Not Resuscitate” regarding care home residents who slipped into a coma. Or was it a command rather than advice ? Can the NHS give out commands like that? In any case, care homes were told not to revive and save those residents.
This was after NHS hospitals had discharged Covid positive patients back into care homes. NHS managers have often referred to elderly patients in NHS hospitals as “bed blockers”. It’s almost as though NHS managers seized the chance to rid themselves of as many “bed blockers” as possible.
Pot and kettle. OK the managers arent blocking beds but theyre taking up resources and occupying office space. Do they really earn their salary?
“European Court of Human Rights must have some observations in the matter”, It wouldnt interfere with the progress of Agenda 21. It’s in the business of advancing this Grand Plan, and its cause is not ours.
The “woke” idiots need to really waken up to reality. It’s simply astonishing that they can be so easily led. There will be an almighty mess to clear up if they are allowed to carry on; it’s bad enough now.
A GP I know has said privately what is going on with Covid etc. is an absolute scandal but they have been “muzzled”. BBC – I hope as many of those senior citizens as possible refuse to buy a TV license. I do my bit to spread the lies that have come from TPTB but few are listening as they have been “brainwashed”. Emails to my MP are largely ignored. BLM – useful idiots.
This woman gave a very powerful anti-Covid speech in Nottingham earlier today. – It gives one hope:
https://youtu.be/_6YLwruACzU
She’s a hero
Thanks Viv for making me aware of these further scandalous invasion of all that is held dear by the real UK citizens. Aren’t the COVID and care homes actions illegal?
Agree with the sentiments of the other comments but have they taken action and written to their MP’s ! ?
We all need to “Woke” (WAKE!) UP to the undermining of our society and take action.
I Keep BGO with my MP and hope everyone else is with theirs!
Still not received anything in the post about what to do regarding my loss of my free TV licence, has anyone else?
Yes – ish, Robin Hill. A DEMAND that since it is no longer free, I start paying. Straight into recycling with that. They only assume I am still alive/at this address. Make them spend money – going to court or whatever. If the bailiffs arrive, they can only come in with a warrant. Only then will I prove that I’m on pension credits.
Actually I’ve not switched it on for yonks, plugs are out and when and if I do use it, it will be for radio or dvds.
The long march through the institutions proceeds apace. Comrade. (Yes I know they don’t call each other that anymore. That’s why I said it.)
Following on from the long march through the British Empire, which I’ve been watching from around the half-way point in Bulawayo in the ‘60s. And now they’re here!
Civilisation being dismantled piece by piece.
This is not about right and left. It’s about right and wrong.
There’s a reason we’ve been shut out of our churches.
What’s been fighting us is pure evil.
I agree one hundred per cent Michael.
East Europeans show the way.
Dead right.

Unfortunately many clergy including Pope Francis and Archbishop Welby are batting for the Other Side.
TPTB are itching to destroy everything good about European culture. They plonk ugly post- modernist “sculptures” and buildings everywhere. They spend millions enlarging the horrible Tate Modern to make room for even more elephant- dung displays. They hate our musical traditions and composers, symphony orchestras and opera singers. Incidentally I think it’s no accident that for years they’ve been trying to make operatic performances as unenjoyable as possible from the visual point if view. As a random example out of many, I have a 1980’s DVD of Verdi’s Nabucco performed with extremely stylish colourful (and fun) costumes in Verona amphitheatre, with world class principals in their prime. With horror I compare this to the performance of this opera recently by an aged and unsuitable Placido Domingo. He and the chorus looked as if they had got their clothes from a charity shop. Drip drip drip, TPTB are trying to demoralise us in every way possible.
I predict that even if we get no- deal Brexit we will still get stitched into the EU Criminal Injustice System, with the EU Arrest Warrant and Public Prosecutor, and giving the diplomatically- immune and doubtless lethally- armed EU Gendarmerie Force the right to come here to “keep order.” The vile TMay was itching to ” invite” the EGF here. For, I predict, our treacherous Government will sign a separate Security Treaty to “ensure cooperation with Europe over international crime and terrorism.” In reality it will ensure our subjugation, and provide security to our oppressors not to us.
And then, there is the little matter of our armed forces etc being under centralised EU control…..
I’m sorry Vera, “Bluebirds” has to go and be replaced by blackbirds, What they might do to Dover is a struggle. Perhaps “the green hills of Dover “
Wokeness/ BLM. Don’t have a TV licence nor have I ever bought a lottery ticket. Both are vehicles In their own distinct way for funding the liberal agenda
Agreed. I don’t have a TV Licence, never ever bought a lottery ticket, don’t own a mobile phone, don’t read newspapers, switch the radio off when James O’Brien is on, and today have started to chuck Conservative Party members drivel in the recycling bin. A four page pamphlet telling me what a great job they’re doing, locally and nationally. What a laugh, not……………
So a Finn and a Saffer get to decide what we British can sing along with at our main musical event of the year. You couldn’t script it. It’s beyond time I cancelled my TV licence. I almost pulled the plug on it in July but will definitely do so from Oct when I get a chance. And the National Trust is attacking our built heritage with wokeiness too. If they haven’t seen what really lies behind BLM yet they are as dumb as oxen and will be similarly slaughtered by BLM once their wafer thin veil of “racist oppression” and “peaceful protest” is cast aside.
They can stuff it where the sun don’t shine, and kiss mine twice!!
Sylvia, I like it, and made me smile, but you sound like Harry Callaghan with those choice of words……………
Sylvia or Harry for P.M.!! (I hope I triggered someone there). It would certainly make my day.
