Obey!
I’ve long had my suspicions that our society is surreptitiously being transformed into a ‘New Matriarchy’. This morning’s headlines made me delve into dry statistics to confirm my suspicions. Reading that ‘girls are cleverer than boys’, as shown by today’s GCSE results and of course the A-Level results I wonderned how this came about. I also remembered that not so long ago we were told that it’s sexist to claim that boys were cleverer than girls. Must we now understand that making this claim for girls isn’t sexist?
When one digs a bit deeper into these and other reports one finds some very worrying facts which indicate that some of the mess our country and indeed democracy finds itself in could well be caused by those ‘clever girls’. Bear with me while I line up the dots, sorry: ducks.
Firstly, those GCSE~ and A~level results. Regardless of how they came about during the many months of no schools “because: covid!” they’re a fact, as is the fact that more girls achieved top grades than boys:
“The results show that girls have extended their lead over boys in achieving top grades. The proportion of girls who got an A or higher was 46.9 per cent, 4.8 percentage points higher than boys (42.1 per cent). Last year, girls led boys by 3.2 percentage points (39.9 per cent girls, 36.7 per cent boys).” (link)
Yep, definitely more clever, those girls! Perhaps “we” ought not to wail about ‘grade inflation’ because that would be – misogynist, wouldn’t it! Grades are so high because there are so many ‘clever girls’ taking them, helped by the many female teachers who were ‘given guidance’ to base these A- and GCSE-results on their own assessment. After all, there couldn’t be proper exams “because covid!”. Now look at the proportion of male to female teachers:
“30.5% of these teachers are male, and 69.5% are female. However, at primary school level, this rises to 82.4% female – a proportion that is steadily increasing.” (link).
It would of course be horrid of me to suggest that ‘older sisters are helping their younger sisters’, to make up for the oppression by the patriarchy! The high number of ‘clever girls’ achieving top A-Level results translates, as one would expect, into student numbers attending Uni.
The HoC Research Briefing shows that in 2020 43% of new admissions were girls, 31% were boys (link). Clever girls – ‘clever’ ever since the change from O-levels to A-Levels in 1988 – have got nice degrees, many having entered the civil service or the medical profession, a.k.a the NHS.
The latest Government figures for the civil service shows that over half of them (53.8%) are women and that “The overall representation of women in the Civil Service has remained above 50% since 2010.” (link). No – these aren’t all cleaners, tea-trolley-dollies and typists. The government’s own page linked to above has a lovely graph showing the rise and rise of women in the highest civil service grades where they’re currently making up 47%. Keep these numbers in mind as I take a look at the ‘gender gap’ in the medical profession.
Given that clever girls have consistently outnumbered boys studying medicine, to a tune of 59% accepted in 2017 (link), it’ll come as no surprise that there are more female doctors. The GMC, using lovely woke language, reports that overall there are 48% female doctors (link). In case you smell a rodent, the GMC points out that this is due to more of the older, male doctors, retiring. In 2019 “the proportion of GPs over 50 has declined from 41% to 37%.” (link).
A quick dot-connecting exercise of those percentages means that the younger GPs would be mostly female. Might this explain the reluctance of GPs to see patients, sadly demonstrated ‘ever since covid’? One surely is permitted to wonder …!
Back to the civil serpents, most of whom are WFH. No, don’t even go there and wonder if more females are WFH than males: that’s misogynist and we’ve been told again and again how hard it is for the female species to WFH and teach their kids and do the household chores all at the same time! Of course they can’t flock back to their offices because their sisters in the teaching profession were following Whitehall ‘rulz’ and didn’t teach … that would be stabbing ‘sisters’ in the back!
Still, according to the Times, ministers are now planning to reduce the number of civil serpents because the Treasury demands it. Here’s a very interesting piece of information:
“Ministers and officials have been told that they need to reverse headcount increases as a result of Brexit and the coronavirus. Civil service numbers have significantly increased every year since the EU referendum in June 2016. […] Between 2010 and 2016 the size of the civil service fell by 19 per cent, from 470,000 officials to 384,260 at the time of the EU referendum — the lowest in more than 60 years. But since then numbers have risen significantly. In the past year alone the number of civil servants increased by 30,540 (7.2 per cent). Overall, 68 per cent of the job cuts made between September 2010 and June 2016 have been reversed.” (link, paywalled)
Amazing: during the lockdown months the government took on over 30,000 new civil serpents! Are these the people who are turning the ‘rulz are rulz’ screws? Moreover, there are shelves full of research papers showing that females are more averse to risk-taking than males. In the context of covid, our friends at the admirable BBC have dug up a little research paper from Scotland which documents that generally, more females followed ‘covid rulz’ than males and ‘young people’ (link). Well, if ‘sisters’ have set up those rules then of course more wimmin would obey them.
Having lined up all those pretty ducks, there are some conclusions we must reluctantly draw. The most troubling is that there won’t be any end to the lemmingfication of or country. More female teachers, more female doctors and more female civil serpents pushed to the top means more rules to be obeyed and not to be questioned. From ‘mummy says’ to ‘teacher says’ to ‘doctor says’ to ‘government says’: an edifice of rules and ‘guidance’ not to be questioned but to be followed!
The funny thing is that even so, given all their privileges, some of those ‘powerful females’ are not playing by the rules of the new matriarchy. I’ll only mention the influence of the unelected Mrs Johnson on policies which affect us all.
However – it’s us old laydees who have been standing up to the Karens, it’s us old laydees who are standing shoulder to shoulder with the gentlemen carrying the fight to the power-grabbing, feminised ‘elites’ of Westminster – not the ‘clever girls’. I for one reject this ‘new matriarchy’ which has produced the sad and horrible state we find ourselves in.
Looking ahead I ask myself if we mightn’t soon see a clash between those clever girls running the New Matriarchy and those representing the Old Patriarchy – those who’ve been welcomed into our country by the ‘clever girls’ – and then what? Will they cry for help from the boys and men they’ve contemptuously denigrated for so long?

This horrible new “matriarchy” was a ploy by enemies of Western civilisation, to undermine family life. Encouraging young mothers to go out to work and hand the care of kids over to a child minder.
Oh Yuk! Yuk! Yuk! Heaven save us from this lot of ‘wimmin’! The so called ‘grade-inflation-fest’ has come about purely because the pusillanimous government (whose education secretary was a fire-place salesman in an earlier incarnation!) cancelled proper education inline with the Bliar teaching manual!
If proper written exams were set (and set inline with the levels of expertise needed several decades back), I doubt whether the ‘standards’ would be anything like as high as they are trumpeted today!
Of course the grades have risen. Teachers are judged according to the results they achieve with their pupils! So of course, left t their own devices they will ‘mark-up’ their pupils. Female teachers are nothing like the female teachers from my days in the educational mincing machine. Years of Guardian reading and Common Purpose inculcation has ruined teaching in my opinion. Teaching is no longer anything about learning to reason and use logic. It’s all about memorising what the system wants you to know!

“A levels have changed to a system where students are taught intensively for two years. After two years they are subjected to 5-10 hours of exams, their results are in most cases based entirely on their ability to regurgitate information from up to 24 months ago accurately.
In the days of the Internet and a calculator in literally everyones pocket we should not be basing a measure of intelligence on ability to recall, we should be measuring it on reasoning. In fact when young people go on to higher education this is what they need and universities are increasingly keen on assessments which contain coursework elements or are entirely course work.
I would postulate that the only reason to continue with this charade is to avoid teaching young people to think because if they did they might apply that thought to the political system and try to change it.”
The teaching profession was once respected and revered (a bit like the police). But now…..I dont think so! Heaven preserve us from the new ‘Sisterhood’. What was that expression “The female is more deadly than the male”!!!
Frederica I’m a bit puzzled on two points there.
Are pupils more likely to demonstrate reasoning skill in their course work? I would not have dared. The last two years at my particular ‘grammar’ school were the worst years there. Tell me what yours were like because I’ve a suspicion I may have been particularly unfortunate.
Which Universities do you mean are keen on the course work? I thought Unis nowadays often did not deserve the name so to hear them described as looking for reasoning ability surprises me.

Sorry Pauline. The bit you have referred to was the bit I was sent by my son who found it on Facebook! They were not my own thoughts. I have merely re-quoted it here because I was struck by the fact that someone else had ‘issues’ with the current system and was putting it out on Facebook, a site I always think of as being particularly repressive these days!
I’m not sure why you would not have been allowed to use your own reasoning and logic in your grammar school. I guess we are of similar age. I never found any inhibition regarding using my own reasoning in my grammar school. I think you were unlucky!
My grammar school, not a million miles from yours in SW london was marvellous.
It got me where I am today. The sooner they are resuscitated the better.

The dreaded Comprehensive schools had arrived in my part of Surrey, so that Girls only school, using the old grammar school curriculum must have seemed like the only option.
And don’t forget, in those days girls were ‘educated’ different to boys.
Also when I think back now, I suspect Wimbledon County School for Girls was more ore less forced to get it’s favoured pupils from daughters of the lesser diplomats living in and around London.
Add in to that, teachers needed a career path and that school was not offering much of one.
I’d always been a bit ‘passive’ and my mother probably genuinely did not understand what was happening.
Having been prevented from doing the subjects I would have been interested in and of course discovering the opposite sex, I probably stopped trying to question things and just rehashed a minimum necessary to pass.
Never mind. I finally insisted and got an excellent second chance at Sheffield University. Probably only just in time.

I am not an expert and i am probably wrong, but emotion, , shape, movement, recognition, memory, connection, relationship, words and thought , simple logic, complex logic, Non linear logic, non logic, intuition, weight and variation, illogic,Then Visions, dreams, guessing, ( The intuitive jump ), funny,
The ordered mind has control of these,,although i personally find that irritation and good solid hate helps enormously with the movement between, and use of, these things.
Much food for thought there and I tend to agree Viv. Certainly this old woman objects to the new matriarchy. In fact I’ve tended to distrust women more than men all my life.
That bit about women being more risk averse, reminded me of how little time my brother spent on his homework yet in the eyes of the world you could say he had a more successful life than me. There again, he did not quite make it to three score years and ten.
What does that word clever mean anyway? Studious? Intelligent? Just plain Crafty! No I do not like them and those two professions just happen to be the cushy ones.
I’m not criticising all my ‘sisters’. Indeed, us being more risk adverse has a very good and sound evolutionary motive, since numerically speaking we are more necessary to produce and care for the next generation. One male can produce far more than one female.
Any way, it’s all a bit yuk. Brave new world or something.
Oh, and I see your point about needing plenty of our own males around to defend us from the ones we’ve invited in.
