Is being a man now dangerous?
Instead of more covid and more EU – important as these issues are – today’s column is about sex, sort of. It’s about the aftermath and fall-out from that Clapham vigil or demo, and how this influenced the debate in the MSM and HoC about new Laws. The one is meant to regulate police proceedings at demos, the other is about the clamour for new, stronger laws to regulate ‘male violence’ and misogyny.
It might have passed you by, but allegedly our society is not only racist, it’s utterly misogynist. We’re apparently a nation of ‘women haters’. That’s why a Bill is wending its way through Parliament according to which the police forces in England and Wales should be made to record ‘where existing crimes had been motivated by someone’s sex or gender’. Ms Stella Creasy MP (Lab) said that it’s now time to call misogyny a hate crime. The DT’s opinion writer Ms Walden correctly asks: “how do they and we decide what qualifies as a hate crime in a society and climate that has conflated sexism and misogyny?” (paywalled link) and then explains that sexists aren’t always misogynists but misogynists are always sexist.
No, I haven’t a clue how this observation is going to help in the debate, especially not when Ms Walden next describes her horrible experiences with sexism, wailing that “I have sat next to men at dinner parties who didn’t once see fit to ask me what I did for a living.” (paywalled link). Never mind that ‘talking shop’ at dinner used to be frowned upon in ‘High Society’. I’m sure your heart bleeds for her – stop laughing, you irreverent lot!
So were these males simply sexist or also deeply misogynist? we’re not told, but Ms Walden provides a clue: sexism is ‘cultural indifference’, whatever that means, while misogyny is ‘deep-seated hostility and violent intent’ towards a female person. No, she doesn’t explain how this would apply to transgender people – too much of a conundrum, perhaps?
Therefore, if our society is ‘deeply’ misogynist’, it must clearly be heaving with men with violent intent against women. This leads to the next question: if misogyny becomes a hate crime, isn’t this akin to thought crime because ‘violent intent’ is presumed to exist in mens minds because they’re male? Is this the latest poisoned fruit of ‘all men are rapists’? Does ‘violent intent’ in the form of misandry not exist – or do we not care about that?
Those of us who can remember further back than the last weekend, recall the “MeToo” movement which took off in 2017. This “movement” is now also bearing fruit. they claim at that time was that a woman’s word about her experience is the truth, no factual evidence needed to be given. This extraordinary turn-around in regard to criminal justice and court cases is demonstrated by a rather sinister statistic which was presented by Dame Vera Baird QC who is ‘Victims’ Commissioner for England and Wales’ (no, I had no idea such animal existed …). She warned of:
“decriminalisation of rape” and suggested that many women now “regard the streets as lawless when it comes to male behaviour”. Although police recorded 55,130 rapes in 2019-20, there were only 2,102 prosecutions and 1,439 convictions in England and Wales — less than 3 per cent. Baird fears that a clause in the crime bill, which gives additional powers to the police to download mobile phone data, may make matters worse by discouraging rape victims from pursuing cases for fear that their sexual history will be used to discredit them.” (link, paywalled)
Does she insinuate that over 50,000 ‘rape cases’ recorded by the police should have been prosecuted anyway? The observation that women won’t come forward because of worries that the police would get data from their smartphones again demonstrates that ‘women must be believed’ even when they’ve patently lied. Here are some nubemrs about convictions which bear keeping in mind:
“The conviction rate for rape in the 12 months to last July was 68.5 per cent, meaning that almost a third of defendants were acquitted. However, conviction rates have been improving: in 2015, the rate was about 57 per cent and in 2019 it was about 63.5 per cent.” (link, paywalled)
Horrible, isn’t it: a third of defendants were acquitted because the courts didn’t believe the wimmin! Here’s another crime statistic, reported in the Guardian, about ‘knife crime’. In the same period for which we have those rape case conviction numbers, there were 22,286 knife and offensive weapon offences, a 3% increase on the previous year, but see this:
“Nearly four in 10 (38%) knife and offensive weapon offences resulted in an immediate custodial sentence last year, compared with 23% in the year ending September 2009.” (link)
Compare and contrast the sentencing or conviction numbers: 38% for violence against most male persons v 68.5% for rape. Why am I not surprised that there’s no general outcry, no hashtag ‘movement’? about this discrepancy? Surely not because the victims are overwhelmingly male! Shouldn’t we perhaps talk about a pervasive misandrist or ‘man-hating’ attitude in the police and indeed in our society?
I wonder why our peacocks and MSM ‘journalists’ are so blinded by this latest ‘anti-misogynist’ hashtag wave, why they’re so keen to signal their virtue, showing that they’re not women-haters. Don’t they see that introducing these laws will prevent police officers to protect all of us, irrespective of gender, from crimes against our persons? For example, see what is proposed:
“Police officers in plain clothes will be stationed undercover outside bars and clubs across the country in the coming months in a new scheme to keep women safe on the streets. New government funding amounting to £25 million has also been announced to improve lighting and put up CCTV cameras in neighborhoods that could see women at risk of attack.” (paywalled link)
More police officers needed – or less police time spent on other crimes since even police men only have 24 hours per day. I’ll just note that this scheme demonstrates that women must be kept ‘safe’ even if they drink themselves into oblivion. Women apparently don’t need to take responsibility for their behaviour – asking that they should do so would be misogynist. Do women really prefer to have Nanny State watch over them rather than rely on themselves?
Is it too harsh to think that somehow women seem to like living in a constant state of fear and trepidation? When it’s not covid which must be fought by lockdowns, it’s ‘fear of males’ who happen to be around who apparently all harbour ‘violent intent’ because they’re men. No wonder then that this scheme:
“will be rolled out as Covid-19 restrictions are eased in the coming months. Pubs and bars are allowed to reopen outside from mid-April, with clubs likely to return in late June.” (paywalled link)
Restricting our civil freedom because of covid isn’t sufficient – there must be more restrictions because women must be made to feel safe, without having to take responsibility for this themselves. Funny that no prominent female has called for more courses in self-defence! Regarding the clamour for harsher sentencing of ‘sex offenders’, a category hugely enlarged now, allegedly to include men who wolf-whistle – here’s an interesting and quite staggering intervention:
“David Lammy, the shadow justice secretary, wrote to Buckland last month expressing dismay that he had not published a full equalities impact assessment of the plans for longer sentences because they would have a “disproportionate” impact on black and ethnic minorities.” (link, paywalled)
Oh dear. I can’t help but wonder if this means that BAME defendants should be sentenced less harshly “because: ‘racism!”. Is this going to be the new criminal justice system according to which police and courts must find in favour of women, regardless, because doing otherwise means they’re misogynists while they also must be lenient to BAME defendants because doing otherwise would be racist?
This leaves one group right at the bottom of the heap: white males. That is neither racist nor misandrist, is it! This anti-male attitude has been growing for a long time. Concerns about white boys underachieving in schools to prostate cancer and the ever growing number of male suicides can only be mentioned in passing, it seems.
Who can forget Jess Phillips MP sniggering at the suggestion that these male issues should be debated in Parliament on ‘International Men’s Day’! Well, it is forgotten now. After all, this happened in 2015, Even though the numbers on male suicide and cancer deaths given in the report in the DT (paywalled link) have become worse, clearly “we” must only be concerned about women.
Strangely enough, nobody asks what mothers of boys should do. A male Times columnists says they should teach them to ‘respect women’, before declaring that he’s stymied as to what to tell his sons when it’s easy to tell his daughters that the can do everything boys can do. Well – perhaps it’s time to teach our boys that they can do whatever the girls can do? After all, Nanny State will surely look after them as well as looking after girls, won’t it?
Perhaps this whole mess might ultimately be solved when all women have become lesbians and all men gay. No rapes, no misogyny – because males and females won’t need to have sex with each other. A thoroughly British solution …
KBO!
I feel so sorry for sarahs parents. Could we all just give them some peace ??
I wonder what Freud would have said about these Hysterical Women that need protecting from all this sexual harassment that may or may not be happening.
Or rather – I can guess what he might have said – Wishful Thinking ??
As culture moves further away from instinct a deep sense of unease gains momentum in the subconscious – This is particularly depressing for women because the arithmetic of reproductive potential means promiscuity which is on the face of it great fun has far less inherited deep satisfaction than for men for whom it has been a way to vastly increase the potential of passing on their successful reproductive behaviour – In other words it is inevitable that men can have far more babies than women through promiscuity literally hundreds where women are lucky to have made a dozen promiscuously or not – The pill and abortion etc provide the ability for women to behave like men but it seems the more our culture and technology provides in this direction the deeper the unsatisfied unease goes? – The more we do to add to the mix with laws to protect women’s freedom to be sexually rampant by demonising men’s response the more depressing it seems to get for women.
Great comment Lindsay! Succinctly and very accurately put! You have defined the situation exactly.
It just aint fair is it Lindsay!
There is an organisation called ‘Fair Cop’ which seems to be made of former police officers who are thoroughly disgusted with the way to force has been politicised in recent years. Their first report can be found here and it makes for disconcerting reading, especially in light of who is providing the training programs. https://www.faircop.org.uk/politicised-police-are-misrepresenting-the-law-new-report-reveals/
bohma. Sounds good.
If we males are going to be labelled as misogynists simply because we are male, then there’s nothing else for it – we will just have to self-identify as women.
OMG Jim! That’s a stomach churning thought! If that ever comes to pass, humankind will be finally and completely screwed!!!
Or ‘not screwed’ Frederica !
What utter fool thought that idea up of having plain clothed police officers inside and outside night clubs. This country at the moment is run imbecilic idiots who have no experience of the real world who just go from foolhardy and unworkable idea to the next. Also quite a lot of our senior police officers are quite plainly not up to the job and have no idea as to how to police the streets, and some have never ever patrolled the streets or if they did, did the absolute basic minimum. And why is this? Simple graduate entry from university to senior ranks therefore by-passing street level policing at Constable and Sergeant level or joining the police from industry and again doing so at a senior officer level, thereby bypassing policing at street level. Of course this policy has been politically driven by utterly incompetent politicians who are just interested in quick fixes. Policing requires basic common sense, of which it seems is in short supply these days, not a blasted degree in sociology, social sciences or criminology. We need to return to a point where all senior police officers are required to join the police at Constable level and serve at least two years at street level so that they gain a thorough understanding and grounding of what is required. A freeze on police recruitment has reduced levels of manpower to the lowest level in 20 years. I would suggest that there isn’t the capacity to devote plain clothed officer inside and outside nightclubs, however what the public at large do want to see are more uniformed police officers on foot duty in built up areas. That is the way to reduce crime and is basic common sense. What we don’t need are inexperienced youngsters coming out of university thinking they know everything, but in fact don’t know anything, and joining the police at Chief Inspector level and putting forward their left wing indoctrinated ideas into practice. We’ve seen that and it doesn’t work and it is time to get back to basics……
Thank you Colin, it’s a shame you can’t influence the powers that be to stop playing politics with peoples lives. They are a waste of space.
Seconded Lisa.
Plus having a basic fitness test before entry and annually thereafter..
I’m sure you are right Colin Hussey about how the police should be run and how it is being run badly now. It is common sense isn’t it.
Well said Colin. It is clear that your years in the force weren’t wasted! You know what is wrong and what is required. I agree with Lisa. It would be helpful if you could become an ‘influencer’ of ongoing policy. Let’s hope you’ll be on the first step to that goal after the May elections!
Sorry your ‘onor , but I forget what I nicked ‘im forr as I’d ‘ad a couple o tots just to melt into the croud. Like!
Yes Mike Durrans I was thinking similar. How would they dress. Particularly their boots/shoes, so as to melt into the crowd. Would they get an ‘alcohol allowance’?
Where was Stella Creasy with her ‘outrage’ when all those poor girls were being serially abused by gangs of men of a ‘certain religion and ethnicity’? How I abhor these grandstanding female MPs with their constant ‘virtue signalling’ pseudo morality that they persistently trot out on the slightest provocation if they get the slightest whiff of he chance of personal ‘kudos’!
Young women pushing the boundaries i.e. ‘getting drunk and mixing it with the blokes’ has long been something of a rite of passage! The trouble is that it has got out of hand. It used to be restricted and kept within bounds to a certain degree by the licensing laws. Thus when pubs closed at 10.30pm and nightclubs were very thin on the ground the capacity for consuming alcohol to excess was more limited. Since bealzebub Bliar changed the laws to permit 24 hour drinking it opened the floodgates of excess! But why should men respect women when women seem hell bent on illustrating just how little they deserve such respect! I suspect that most men (in their hearts) would much prefer to know girls who respected themselves and kept a certain ‘distance’.
As to why women seem to have lost their self respect, I am perplexed. I suspect that it is a complex conundrum.linked in many ways i.e. sexual freedoms that were once considered ‘not appropriate’ are now deemed to be perfectly normal. With the pill being freely available, fear of sexually transmitted diseases apparently vanquished and abortion on demand, what barriers are there to doing just as you wish (or as peer pressure encourages!!). Once upon a time women desired marriage, a home and children. Now they can have careers and run their own lives and not fear to be pitied for ‘not being married’. Now is the time for women to start ‘pulling themselves up by their bootstraps’ and reclaiming their own self respect as well as engendering it in the men with whom they come into contact!
Education is playing a big part in our downfall. Now that Schools think that it is their job to teach children about sex (in all its forms) rather then parental choice as to time and place for such teaching, I fear that things can only get worse!
This Country needs to take a step back and consider its cultural future before it falls down the rabbit hole of total decadence and oblivion as has happened to past ‘civilisations’ when they have pushed the boundaries just that bit too far!
I blame the pill. Everything gone downhill since it’s invention.
Harry Again………(oh no not him again) Dear oh dear, is that the best you can come up with. Keeping on taking the tablets, not the pill….
“This Country needs to take a step back and consider its cultural future before it falls down the rabbit hole of total decadence and oblivion as has happened to past ‘civilisations’ when they have pushed the boundaries just that bit too far!”
Correct of course Frederica, but I am afraid they are far too engrossed in shaping their own political and potentially future corporate earnings and advancement. They are not stupid! It is the general pubic who do the same thing over and over again (Vote LIB/LAB/CON) and expect things to turn out different.
I weep
Plain clothes (police)men hanging about outside bars and clubs to make women feels safer from….men becuae of the alleged murder of a woman by a (police)man – priceless in a holding head in hands kind of way. What the hell has happened to our reasoning and deduction in this country.
I am a white male and however much society is sliced up, I will always be in that category, regardless of what measures that category deems necessary for self protection. There is no doubt in my mind that society is being sliced up in order to destroy it and dominate it, by the Left using division as the weapon of choice (perhaps their most potent but also last in their armoury) aided by the selfish, the intellectually lazy and certainly when it comes to our”government”, the weak.
It comes as no surprise to me when I see (Lab) appended to any crackpot idea being proposed and there is no better indicator that the Labour party has abandoned the working/middle class by proposing measures to restrict about half of the electorate/citizens on the basis of the actions of a minute minority.(There are other major political parties available, all equally useless).
The coralling of the white male population is not in my opinion an accident or unfortunate by product of a necessary process, but necessary to the destruction of our way of life and indeed to the whole Western civilisation.
The progressive Left are brilliant political strategists exploiting and riding the growth of big government, big academia, big welfare and big business to further their toxic agenda. With power and money in fewer hands than ever before they are not going to let this supreme opportunity be lost.
It appears that the political and corporate establishment find their careers and lives far easier, more secure and more prosperous by cosying up to the Left than championing the values of conservatism. Until it is apparent to the corporate and political establishment that their business and career prospects are in grave risk by plotting their current course then the march of the progressive Left will likely continue.
I read these articles and the various responses with great interest. What we are witnessing here (and briefly touched upon by Jake Bennett) is in fact ‘The Long March Through the Institutions’ as propounded by the German Marxist, Rudi Dutschke back in the 1960’s.
We speak much about ‘Political Correctness’ these days, which is of course more properly known as ‘Cultural Marxism’ and this is now pervading every aspect of our lives. This insidious and sadly inexorable advance of an extreme socialist ideology began so imperceptibly but is now gathering momentum. Not for nothing has that word ‘Momentum’ been taken by the extreme-left as the name of their movement, for it so accurately describes the increasing speed of the penetration of this unconscionable evil into the very fabric of our society.
Much of the MSM, particularly the BBC of course; the education system, particularly the universities; the police; the judiciary; an increasing number of associations, such as the National Trust; many charities; a significant number of Local Authorities; a great many pressure groups such as BLM and Antifa – the list of institutions through which this long march advances with ever-increasing arrogance is becoming endless!
Due to the increasing confidence of the young, the general apathy of the old and the fractious weakness of the political ‘right’, I fear it may already be too late to reverse this tide of societal change. The cancer (for that is undoubtedly what best describes it) has now planted itself very firmly in the vital organs of our nation and only major surgery (such as a military coup perhaps?) is likely to reverse it.
It is not the Corona Virus which we need to worry about so much as this disease – it portends to be far more life-threatening!
You are right Jim. The proposal to station plain clothes cops in and around clubs and bars is ludicrous! Just another ‘grandstanding’ idea coming out of a threadbare and clueless government!
I also agree with you that the ‘white male’ is becoming an ‘endangered species’. It is more than worrying that such a trend is being overseen by predominantly ‘white male’ government! Presumably, they never look in the mirror!
