Scene from inside a Whitehall computer centre …

What a start to the morning! There I was, scanning the headlines in our beloved MSM and what did I find? Not a one about ‘case numbers are rising, we’re all doomed’! Instead we did get a hotchpot of earth-shattering news, for example that BJ said that all houses would be ‘powered with wind’ in ten year’s time. He was referring to offshore windfarms, so no, there won’t be a wind turbine on every roof of every building in this green but no longer pleasant land.

However, the less prominently placed articles were sufficient to make me doubt the collective mental power of the Westminster Cabal whose members permeate ‘Our MSM’, Whitehall and Parliament.

By now you’re all aware that the ‘fiasco’ of the ‘lost 50,000’ whose data were lost because of ‘a computer glitch’. This, it turned out, was due not precisely to a computer glitch but to the people who ran this scheme. They were using an Excel spreadsheet which had run out of space. Comment posters under the various reports were suitably scathing. There’s more:

“A computing malfunction caused phones to fail yesterday as tracers tried to clear the backlog of an estimated 40,000 contacts of coronavirus cases, only half of whom had been identified by yesterday morning. Almost 16,000 infectious people were missed because of an error caused by systems reliant on a 13-year-old version of Microsoft Excel and Matt Hancock, the health secretary, could not say when their contacts would be reached.” (link, paywalled)

Oh dear oh dear! Nobody could predict that the overloaded phones might fail. Computers ‘malfunctioning’ is totally unheard of – that never happens in real life! Does the whole sorry saga of Lockdowns, the fear & hysteria spread by ‘Our MSM’, rest on data stored and run in a 13-year-old version of software? Surely it’s worth investigating if this is the same software used all along since the outbreak of this ‘pandemic’.

Yesterday we quoted Lord Agnew (here) who observed that there were over £1bn wasted in Whitehall on “IT contracts that have overrun their expiration dates” and had not been renegotiated.” I hope you weren’t expecting ‘Our MSM’ to ask if perchance there might be a connection between that and these latest ‘computer fiascos’ – you’d be sorely disappointed.

There are also no questions asked about the trustworthiness of the latest ‘case numbers’ which are still accepted as ‘truth’:

“Latest data now shows cases have tripled in the last fortnight, with 12,594 daily cases reported last night, up from 4,368 two weeks before. The updated data also reveals soaring rates across swathes of the North, particularly in cities with universities.” (paywalled link)

Labour politicians, showing that they’ve fully understood that this whole situation is a political and not a medical one, are now bleating that ‘tis all the fault of London:

“In a tweet on Saturday Mr Burnham said: “The timing of the lifting of national lockdown was London-centric. Please remember this the next time you see politicians pointing fingers at our people.” (link, paywalled)

Does Mr Burnham not know to which Party the Mayor of London belongs? That this Mayor has warned BJ not to lock London down? Never mind – here’s the next sentence in that report, it’s to be savoured:

“Restrictions have also been in place for weeks in Lancashire but boroughs with high case numbers remain.” (link, paywalled)

Did you expect to see even a singled raised eyebrow, never mind a question being asked about restrictions working or not? Hah! No – this is about ‘the most deprived areas’ – Labour-run, but never mind that – being hit the most, and that’s that. And let’s not ask about the make-up of the populations living in those deprived areas – that would be racist, innit!

There are two other Covid News items which are, or should be, of major concern. One is very funny, on the face of it. We’re told of a terrible ‘warning’ – this comes under ‘you really couldn’t make this up’ as well as under ’did they really say that?’. It shows that common sense has left the building and ain’t coming back:

“Rain can limit the effectiveness of protective masks, according to the World Health Organisation and Public Health England, which say they must be replaced if they become damp.” (link, paywalled)

Goodness gracious me! Do “we” need to wait for the WHO and PHE to make such a profound statement before we dare to go out in the rain – not an especially rare occurrence during the autumn and winter here in this green and no longer pleasant land? Yes we do, and the Nanny Covid Government must ‘give us guidance’:

“After heavy rain in much of the country Tim Spector, professor of genetic epidemiology at King’s College London, said: “It would now be useful if clear advice were issued to the public. Masks need to be changed regularly and this is particularly important to understand in damp and wet weather.” (link, paywalled)

Moar muzzles! On – off – on – off: but where to put the discarded ones? Has any intrepid investigative reporter tried to find out where those contaminated masks, especially the one-way ones, are ending up? Disposing of them surely must be a health-hazard issue – so are they ending up in special incinerators for medical waste?

There’s something far more worrying being brewed up for our kids and grandkids by this Covid government – something which doesn’t bode well for our country’s future:

“As well as potentially delaying exams by a few weeks, ministers are also looking at ways to cut down the syllabus to allow more teaching time.” (paywalled link)

Are they’re already planning for Lockdowns to continue well into next summer? That would chime with the remarks dropped by Hancock yesterday – we reported that here – regarding the time when that ‘vaccine cavalry’ is expected to come galloping over the horizon: by next year’s summer.

The proposals by those ‘ministers’ demonstrate that they are happy to further dumb down the generation now in school. Just look at their proposals:

“Earlier this year, the exam watchdog announced a series of proposals for ways in which courses could be slimmed down to accommodate for students missing months of school during lockdown. This included axing formal tests on spoken language skills for GCSEs in French, German and Spanish as well as stopping science experiments and cancelling geography field trips. For pupils sitting GCSEs next summer, a series of history topics will become optional rather than compulsory under the proposals, meaning courses will be shortened by up to 20 per cent.” (paywalled link)

Stopping science experiments … ah, who needs science and maths when we have computers! Who needs languages when there are translation apps on smartphones! Don’t ask if such vital topics like ‘diversity training’, ‘racism’ ‘slavery’ and the rest of the woke syllabus might also become ‘optional’. The answer clearly will be ‘no’ – as this wail by headteachers shows:

“But headteachers have warned that these changes do not go far enough to make up for the amount of disruption that children have faced as a result of the pandemic.” (paywalled link)

Yes, well, there would be sufficient time to make up for the disruption if the whole woke syllabus were dropped. But our education system has been woeful for decades, so why worry about reducing it even further! Could these ‘computer glitches’ and the whole Covid fear & hysteria campaign have been averted had the current generation, sitting at their computers, playing with their smartphones, had a better education in Science, Maths and English? I think we can answer that one on the back of a postage stamp!

I leave you with a hilarious report on the latest ‘computer glitch’. The Tory Party is running their annual conference online. This is what happened:

“Business leaders awaiting a virtual Q&A with the prime minister and the chancellor were left staring at a buffering screen for almost an hour as technical glitches dogged the Conservatives’ “virtual conference”.” (link, paywalled)

Oh dear oh dear! There’s more – I couldn’t stop sniggering when I read next:

“The system has crashed meaning that various fee-paying business leader guests have spent the last 50 minutes looking at a screen with the Conservative logo and an uploading circle,” complained one industry leader. “It’s not a great advert for a government battling off allegations of technical incompetence in other areas.” (link, paywalled)

‘Tis truly amazing: those ‘industry leaders’ noticed this government’s incompetence only when they were at the receiving end of such computer glitches themselves! This was not the only one:

“When the session did start it was repeatedly interrupted because of a “dreadful feed”, a guest said. Ministers’ “break-out” sessions yesterday afternoon were similarly bedevilled by technical glitches. “It’s been a complete shambles to be honest,” one disgruntled figure said. Complaints over accreditation failures that left many frozen out of the first day of the conference have fuelled discontent.” (link, paywalled)

Blimey! How positively awful! Could it be that, just like the civil serpents, these ‘organisers’ are woefully ignorant of IT? That they have perhaps not grasped the fact that being able to play with their smartphones doesn’t mean one is ‘tech savvy’? I have to concur with this general assessment:

“Although some have applauded a brave attempt to replicate the annual gathering, others say it has made painfully obvious the vacuity of much of the content of a conference which has a main purpose of raising cash from paying attendees and sponsors. Cabinet ministers privately admit that participation in the event has been an afterthought and that planning has not been as meticulous as in previous years.” (link, paywalled)

Yeah well – reap what ye sow, innit! Perhaps WFH might not be conducive to meticulousness, but let’s crack on with it anyway because the fear & hysteria campaign must be sustained. Above all – don’t ask if perhaps such ‘computer glitches’ happened in schools as well and might happen in our Unis now.

Even if our elected peacocks manage to vote down that ‘Rule of Six’ in the HoC ghost chamber later this afternoon it’s sadly too much to hope that they start demanding BJ and his Covid Government stop their whole Covid madness.

KBO!
