Bye-bye, Ms Merkel: a socialist wolf in green conservative sheep’s clothing

 

What do the coming elections in Germany have to do with a music festival in Reading? This: the shift from conservatism to green socialist policies, promoted in the MSM, and how this influences the behaviour of people who are happily supporting anything which looks ‘green’.

The seismic change in German politics, due to the elections to the Bundestag on the 26th of September, has so far not even been a blip on the horizon of our MSM. Well, let’s not blame them overmuch. There are only so many pixels that can be sacrificed every day. The poor things also have had their hands full during the past 20 months or so, what with covid, Trump and now Afghanistan. Any remaining space in their propaganda universe was allocated to green ‘issues’ which were presented to us as facts about which “we” must do something – now and in the near future. 

Still, it is mildly astonishing that the huge shift in German politics over the last four Merkel-years hasn’t found much interest here in the UK. It’s furthermore quite astonishing that the fact that there won’t be a Ms Merkel as Chancellor of Germany and Empress of the EU after the 26th of September hasn’t worried our editors, not even those who are firm Remainers. They and their ‘sources’ in Whitehall seem to think that what happens on the Continent is uninteresting even though they still blame everything on Brexit and would rather we rejoin. 

They seem to think that the EU president, that German lady whose name escapes me for some reason, might turn out to be a nice substitute for Ms Merkel who, after all, had handpicked her. It doesn’t matter that the EU was conspicuous by their absence in the recent withdrawal from Afghanistan and their  It doesn’t even matter that there’s been no general Brussels covid policies, not even a Brussels mandate on which masks are EU ‘approved’. The latest EU ‘initiative’ in regard to Afghan refugees is however pure Merkel: 

“Britain’s commitment to rehome 20,000 Afghans risks creating a “pull effect for migrants”, Germany suggested on Tuesday as it ruled out plans for an EU-wide target. Britain has promised to rehome 20,000 refugees from Afghanistan in the coming years, with 5,000 arriving this year. Brussels is instead preparing to offer countries neighbouring Afghanistan – such as Iran, Tajikistan, Turkey and Pakistan – about €600 million to host Afghans before they can reach Europe.” (paywalled link)

On the one hand here’s the Merkelian ‘chequebook diplomacy’, on the other there’s the sly insinuation that it’s our, the UK’s fault for BJ’s policy regarding Afghan refugees which makes them leave their country, wishful of coming to Europe. Many EU countries have refused outright to take in any Afghan refugees, so it makes eminent sense for them to have the EU pay for refugee camps in those neighbouring countries.

That was Merkel’s policy until 2015 and it was also an excellent method of e.g. Turkey to blackmail Brussels and Berlin to accede to Turkey’s political wishes. Negotiating with Iran, with Pakistan which doesn’t want to take in any Afghans – what political nous on display! Still, any difficulties will emerge after Ms Merkel has left, so why should she bother. Blaming the UK as a final poisonous dart is just the icing on her cake.

But there’s the greenery and the shift to green socialist policies which Ms Merkel herself has initiated during her years in office. Of course, our wonderful MSM had their hands full promoting Remain so it’s understandable, is it not, that anything even faintly critical of Ms Merkel didn’t make it into the news nor did anything even faintly critical of the shift to green both in Ms Merkel’s party, the CDU, in the German MSM and in the German political landscape. After all, didn’t “we” also bend the knee to Greta and don’t “we” now have a green string-puller right in the PM’s bedroom?

It’s thus unsurprising that not much has been made over here of the German Green Party’s candidate to replace Ms Merkel, a certain Ms Baerbock. Never mind that the one remaining conservative paper in Germany, Die Welt (link, mostly paywalled) has been reporting on her fraudulent CV which crumbled under scrutiny – the rest of the German MSM are firmly into green socialism.

Also, nothing has been reported here on that hugely ‘democratic’ way in which the German Greens elected Ms Baerbock. They have the policy that, regardless of their abilities, a ‘Frau’ has to be elected as top candidate, from the lists for the Bundestag elections all the way down to the running of their local branches. I bet Carrie would love that! Mind you, conservative consensus in Germany is that this is a blessing in disguise because her male counterpart is by far the better and more impressive politician who might have had the chance of becoming Germany’s first Green Chancellor.

Instead, this morning The Times, a.k.a. Remain Central, has a piece by their chief editor which reads like an obituary for Ms Merkel. It has the subtitle: “Angela Merkel’s departure is another blow for the western alliance, which depends on its parties’ confidence and cohesion” (link, paywalled). Daniel Finkelstein has apparently not the faintest inkling that actually, Ms Merkel, a former member of the East German communist youth movement and allegedly, according to unconfirmed rumours, even a member of the infamous Stasi, has been shifting from centre right to socialist green, especially in this, her last stint as Chancellor which is now coming to an end. 

His opinion piece is mostly given over to a look back at the era of Mrs Thatcher and Ronald Reagan, swerving to the obligatory criticism of Trump, and then end thus:

“With the retirement of Merkel, with the Republicans still in the shadow of Trump, with Britain politically divorced from its centre-right neighbours, there isn’t an obvious figure to bring the mainstream-right family together.” (link, paywalled)

There’s not even a hint on the decades of defamation of Mrs Thatcher. There’s not a hint on the ongoing defamation of anybody looking even remotely like such an ‘obvious figure’. Not even France is getting a look-in – Macron won’t be pleased! – but note that Mr Finkelstein and his Westminster ilk are looking for some ‘obvious figure’, some sort of ‘saviour’. This must be a ‘mainstream’ one where the ‘mainstream’ as defined by that ‘elite’, be it here in Westminster, be it in Berlin or Brussels or indeed Biden’s Washington, must be a green-cloaked socialist because that, they are telling us, is ‘Teh Future’.

This report documents with stunning photos the mess left behind by festival goers this weekend. This is the mostly reddish-green youth who are happy with all policies restricting our lives as long as they’re based on green bovine excrement which they themselves can of course disregard when it interferes with their lives, with their ‘having fun’.

Is this the future as hoped for by our Westminster Village dwellers who despise proper conservatives? Is this why they now mourn a future without Ms Merkel’s ‘unifying’ policies’, policies which have shifted from conservative to green socialism? A future where green Greta disciples can leave a non-recyclable mess behind for others (us peasants!) to clear up because they’re ‘good’ whereas we conservatives are despicable and must be denounced? 

The future is bright – the future is socialist green, is it?
