Our MSM stoke the fire and provide the fiddles for ‘players’
Today’s motto is: ‘Fiddling while Rome burns’. It applies to the Tory Party as well as the MSM and their esteemed columnists who are providing both the fuel for the fire and the violins for the fiddlers. The MSM – dead tree press, online papers, online TV “News” – are heaving with headlines about Truss having to U-Turn, Kwarteng having to go, plots to replace Truss with a Mordaunt & Sunak combo. Not a word about inflation or energy prices.
For some light relief the Daily Star’s front page asks the ‘most urgent political question of the year’, namely which will last longer: a head of lettuce or Truss. Mind you, that lettuce looks fresher than the unfortunate photo of Miz T they selected. Scroll down a bit in the usual place (link).
Let’s look at the fiddling first. In a nutshell, see the customary headline in the DM which provides a handy summary of the ‘news’:
“Liz Truss ‘has 17 days to save her job’: Chancellor jets back early from US trip for crunch U-turn talks with PM as mutinous Tory MPs round on her over mini-Budget debacle and ‘line up Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt as a joint ticket to replace her’.” (link)
Why 17 days, you may well ask. This is why:
“Mutinous Conservative MPs have given Liz Truss 17 days to save her job.Tory whips warned she could face a leadership challenge if Kwasi Kwarteng’s economic statement on October 31 fails to end the turbulence in the financial markets.” (link)
Let that sink in: the same Tory MPs who elected Truss as one of the Johnson-replacement candidates are not only showing a severe case of buyer’s remorse, they are also handing over a decision of who is running the country and ultimately our economy to ‘the financial markets’, i.e. the faceless globalist bankers.
It’s not only the Tory MPs who’re doing this. They are only the unfortunate current placeholders. It’s also the MSM chief editors and columnists who are the fuel-and-violins providers. See this subtitle for James Forsyth’s column in The Times:
“An economic plan that satisfies the markets without alienating the Commons or voters looks increasingly out of reach” (link, paywalled)
I didn’t need to read any further: we, the voting, taxpaying peasants are of no importance compared to ‘Teh Markets’ which need to be satisfied. The current HoC – that includes Labour – comes a pale second. Has it occurred to Mr Forsyth that ‘Teh Markets’ won’t be satisfied, ever?
Meanwhile in his column for the DT, Ambrose Evans-Pritchard huffs and puffs and dazzles with irrelevant BS but at least warns, right at the end:
“As a general principle, markets should not dictate policies to elected governments. But first you must get your house in order.” (paywalled link)
Indeed – but then, why is it that he and his ilk are doing their utmost to keep the current government from getting this house in order? Perhaps a report in The Times gives us a clue? It’s about us voting plebs, based on a YouGov poll, what a surprise:
“Almost half of Conservative supporters believe that their party chose the wrong leader this summer. In a YouGov poll for The Times not a single political group, age group, area of the country, gender or other demographic said that Liz Truss had been the right choice as prime minister.” (link, paywalled)
Excuse me – but wasn’t she the dahlink of the MSM this summer when there wasn’t a day without reports on how she wowed the country? Didn’t we observe at that time that the MSM treated this like a GE campaign, omitting the fact that only Tory Party members were going to vote for her? Wasn’t she the choice of the Westminster MSM who celebrated her in order to stuff Sunak?
Never mind – this is all in the distant past! Now Tory MPs, the ones who elected Sunak and Truss as the two suitable PM candidates on which the Party members had to vote, those Tories, are trying to overthrow their decision:
“Senior Conservatives are holding talks about replacing Liz Truss with a joint ticket of Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt as part of a “coronation” by MPs. Party grandees are in discussions about replacing Truss with a “unity candidate” just weeks after she became the fourth Conservative leader in six years. Unlike the summer leadership contest, MPs would propose just one person to succeed the prime minister.” (link, paywalled)
In that same article, the authors also refer to yon YouGov poll, using harsher words (my emphasis):
“YouGov polling for The Times found that almost half of those who voted Conservative at the last election want the party’s MPs to oust Truss. Sixty-two per cent say grassroots members made the wrong choice in the vote for leader, with 43 per cent wanting the party to install a new prime minister compared with 29 per cent who oppose the move.” (link, paywalled)
So it’s the Tory grassroots who are to blame – make them vote again until they get it right, is it? Were those ‘conservative voters’ polled at the time, declaring they preferred Sunak? I cannot recall such poll.
Another Westminster mask has dropped: grassroots cannot be trusted to make the right decision. Therefore, we can surmise, it must be possible to run another referendum on the EU. After all, doesn’t Scotland lead the way with demanding another IndyRef because those stupid grassroots voters didn’t vote properly in 2014? Shall we perhaps ask the global markets how to vote and whom to vote for next time?
I leave you with a little news item, showing that lovely, shiny Labour is not as nice as the current MSM chiefs want us to think:
“A former Labour frontbencher has been suspended from the party amid an investigation into bullying accusations. Christina Rees was shadow Welsh secretary under Jeremy Corbyn as party leader. The Guardian reported that her suspension came after complaints from constituency staff.” (link, paywalled)
Bullying, racism, anti-semitism: that’s Labour. Add to it blatant nepotism because Ms Rees is the wife of Ron Davies of ‘Clapham Commons’ and ‘Welsh devolution’ fame, making the Principality into a permanent Labour fiefdom. And these are the people the Westminster cabal wants to see in No 10 …
In conclusion I note that the Westminster swamp, from No 10 and Whitehall to the HoC, have dropped their masks. Their games of who is ‘in’ or ‘out’ are more important than the welfare of our country. Promoting ‘Teh Markets’ as final arbiter of how we’re governed while dissing the grassroots is beyond belief. It may play well on the Islington Dinner Circuit – it won’t play well outside the M25.
Meanwhile we better stock up on candles and blankets because blackouts seem to have become an acceptable feature for this winter. Sadly, the fiddling of the Westminster ‘players’ won’t entertain us in the dark days to come, no will Rome burning, the fire being stoked by the Westminster ‘fuel providers,’ keep us warm.

Just wonderful, thank you
Agree Kwasi analysis of the “British disease” was accurate, not sure a entirely about his solutions, but I’m not even an amateur economist.
All I ca say is that I supported all out dash for growth, unfortunately it put the wind up the rest of the “merchant bankers” who would be shown up
The way I see it all is like they say about the alcoholic, he has to be at the absolute bottom before he can begin to reform
The nation is there now, there is only one way to go and that is upwards.
Perhaps we deniers will all unite now and in effect fight Brexit all over again.
There can only be one battle front and that is the preservation of our COMPLETES independent sovereignty.
BREXIT MUST NIT BE REVERSED, we must stand up as one and FIGHT
I have to write. Maybe it’s a coping mechanism.
When I heard that Kwasi had gone, the first thing that came to mind was Private Fraser’s catch phrase, and it’s still going round and round on a loop; I can’t shake it off.
There was brief flickering of hope with the Brexit vote, but they soon stitched that up.
There was another flickering when the Tories gained an 80 seat majority, but Boris soon blew that away.
Recently, after Lord Frost decided not to stand and Badenoch and Braverman were (surprise, surprise, not!) eliminated, we had the Devil and the deep blue sea choice of a millionaire globalist banker committed to a CBDC, and an ex-Remainer, pea-brained war-monger. But out of the wreckage came Kwasi. Finally someone who gets it. So bright he thought he need not explain because the answers were so obvious to him that everyone must see them. After the hiatus of the Queen’s funeral he gave us a quick starter-budget, because there was no time to lose, pulling all the right levers, annoying all the right people. Alistair Heath in the DT called it the best budget in his lifetime. Even the IMF, not known as fans of Britain, came out, after a few day’s thought, in support. A potential road to salvation for the economy and the hard-pressed people, and to restore confidence for investors in this country’s future.
Then it started. Can’t have that it’s against the narrative of managed decline. And the suffocating globalist blob began flowing through all the channels like an inexorable tsunami: The BoE, whose governor is on the board of the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, the primary globalist tumour, continued managing in a way to create the greatest market turmoil and uncertainty; One Nation Tories (meaning you oiks jolly well do as we patronisingly tell you) and Remainers (often the same people); the unprincipled, laughingly labelled Opposition taking their main chance; the lefty and globalist-bought and paid for media, all piled in to create a mood of doom and panic. And Gossamer strength Liz caved. Another surprise, not!
And the upshot? Jeremy Hunt, whose name several BBC presenters Freudianly mispronounced when he was in office. A recognised serial failure in politics: Culture, Health and FO. And whose wife allegedly has close links to the CCP. He urged Brexiteers to back May’s capitulation deal with the EU. What’s not to like apart from every atom?
And the worst thing of this whole affair, evidenced by the opinion polls, even the rigged ones that are used to influence not to measure, is that after Lockdown – an event design to break the public as a wild horse is broken and never bucks again – it seems the public now has a blank stare, unquestioning believing everything the muck stream media dishes up, and seems unable to remember anything from about yesterday against which to make any judgements.
When, not so far back, some people pointed out the trailed plan to crash world economies, beggar the people and reset on a different path, they were labelled conspiracy theorists (just as they were for predicting an EU army, an energy crisis and the devastating consequences of the jab.) Nutty. How could that possibly be done, they were challenged. Turns out that with unlimited money, no scruples and a little planning, it wasn’t that difficult after all.
Oh damn. There goes Fraser again.
I vote P O’ for Prime Minister with support from ID!!!
Good points Phil and now I see a petition wanting a general election going the rounds; the last thing we need at this time. Just imagine the damage a Labour government could do now!
Who is Kwazi?
https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/kwasi-kwarteng-crispin-odey-government-bonds-profit/
Guilt by association? Most people have an ex-boss, or several, once you leave, their life is theirs and yours is yours. And many, many are cashing in on the crisis, that’s partly what it is for. Andrew globalist Bailey has engineered the perfect conditions for profit and the desired crisis for his masters in Basel. A win-win for them.
Bloody hell, Kwasi Kwarteng sacked as chancellor! As the banking, financial system and economy implode, we’re left with a pathetic, so called government that couldn’t organise a p*ss up in a brewery: god help us.
If we are to survive it must come from the British people because nobody else will help you.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2022/10/14/politics-latest-news-kwasi-kwarteng-latest-liz-truss-mini-budget/
See the power of the unelected! Kwarteng must be the Chancellor with the shortest ‘reign’: 38 days …
And he’s replaced by …Jeremy Hunt, god help us.
And now they’re gunning for Truss – well, at least the fun and games and political fireworks will keep us entertained.
What Liz and Kwarteng have cooked up is a tentative grab at a real government for the good of the country and it’s people.. What is ranged against them are:–
The worry of mortgage holders. Gambling markets. This has already happened and cannot be changed. It happened when Rishey + Treasury printed money for Covid. WFO and Furlough,( An appalling Treasury civil servants and sage decision . now being played out in inflation . Absolutely nothing to do with Truss etc. )
Corporate and USA and Democrats everywhere, who require the collapse of the £ to reduce its comparison with the Euro, to provide a single larger market. ( the big prize already half corrupted )( Like Ukraine )
British committees and captured institutions and a massive frightened bureaucracy, with no real job and EU propagated pointless anti- entrepreneur industries (. Usually linked to foolish Tek.
And , what many perceive as ‘safety’ of doing ‘more of the same ‘
Truss and Kwarteng are 100 % correct but it needs time and Care ( A bit late for care now, but try a less incendiary approach )
THE POSITION OF UKIP IS THE SINGLE ‘KEYSTONE’ PREVENTING DEMOCRACY FROM WORKING>
Macron’s solution to the looming energy crisis is to recommend polo neck jumpers to keep warm and appeared in one to reinforce his message. The p*ss take in French media has been very entertaining. Perhaps his cunning plan is to keep everyone warm by making them laugh! Meanwhile there is this: https://mattgoodwin.substack.com/p/this-isnt-working?utm_source=email
An acquaintance in the conservative party has invited me to a meeting on Monday night (in a room over a Mayfair pub) with a member of the 1922 committee. We hope to learn if they are planning to change the rules to allow Truss’ removal. My acquaintance views this a coup against the membership. Whether the 1922 committee member turns up remains to be seen. I hope he does as a bit of blue on blue could rival Macron for entertainment.
Ooh – do let us know what transpired at the meeting on Monday, if yon 1922 committee member turned up.
We’re deep into blue0on-blue warfare anyway, and given how that whole parliamentary party is leaking, another little leak would be neither here nor there.
Interesting piece by Matt Goodwin. I note that more and more of those ‘big thinkers’ and ‘experts’ are using setback as a means of publishing their thoughts. A pity though that they’re all ‘monetarising’ their writing – a pity because it creates many little in-groups who have the wherewithal to spend while leaving us peasants in an informational desert.
Not much joy today, but this came in from the DT late yesterday morning.

Watch: King Charles mutters ‘Dear, oh dear’ as he meets Liz Truss
Every now and then I ind myself in full agreement with the old fellow… A wonderful example of British Understatement.
Cheered me for the rest of the day.
A huge number of the British public will have declared ‘Dear, oh dear’ at the prospect of the Queens passing and her idiot son becoming King Charles 111
Indeed Jake; Charlie is too green by far in every sense of the word.
My God Viv! you are a trojan reading the utter tripe that is thrown about in the papers so we don’t have to.
If the MSM are in the pocket of corporations, billionaires and NGOs how about approaching and offering space for centre Right challenger party leaders to publish their points of view on Independence Daily?
Done that when we started INDYD – followed by resounding silence. Those leaders believe that writing is outdated because ‘nobody reads any longer’ and that podcasts and videos and stuff on twitter are better at gaining interest, never mind votes.
I’m recording the daily sewage spewed out in our MSM because I believe we’re witnesses of the accelerating destruction of our country and therefore such record must be kept for those who later wonder how this all came about. Someone, after all, has to do it …
I agree with Jake B “My God Viv! you are a trojan reading the utter tripe that is thrown about in the papers so we don’t have to. . ”
Besides which, I personally I prefer to read an A4 size script that comes straight to the point, to videos or podcasts that take on average 10 to 15 minutes to watch.
We’re totally on our own and have been for years, in this mess. Nobody among TPTB are coming to our rescue.
Thanks, Mary – couldn’t agree more with your preference for the printed word.
Moreover, I find that I can read faster than the podcasters can speak and can also write notes in the margins.
The best argument for having written text is that one can use it to quote from it, with reference.
Saying “I heard XYZ say so in his podcast” doesn’t quite cut it, not even when one links to the said podcast which demands the other person listen to the whole thing as well: what a waste of time and resources!
total agreement.
Dear Viv,
just out of interest do you use a software that coverts ‘speech’ into text?
How do you and for e.g PoS do it? ie volumes of written text.
Me? I suspect my hands look somewhat ‘KINGLY’ when it comes to clacking keyboards.
Dear J.B. Esq – no, I don’t use such software. In my mis-spent youth I used to work as typist/secretary. That was in the days when electric typewriters were only used in posh offices belonging to Footie companies – not in the places I started working. Then we did get electric typewriters which made life much easier on hands and fingers.
So now these wonderful keyboards are like a dream for me – no effort needed, the fingers just glide over the keyboard. And when I think back to ye olden times when we really had to cut paragraphs from typed pages and paste them together, when we had to type and re-type all the corrections … sigh. That was a lot of typing … now it’s easy and fast – I’m fine with the word-processing software, no speech-to-text needed.
As a member of a centre Right party I shall propose changes then Viv!
An article listing those “Right challenger parties” and their stated policies would be useful. Jake? However they must agree to cooperate to defeat the common enemy.
Jack To paraphrase Jack Kennedy – Ask not what centre Right challenger parties can do for you but what you can do for them!
Jack Do you seriously need an article to list the centre Right challenger parties? On your second point, you sound like a passenger on a stricken liner that demands to see the health and safety certificate before jumping in a liferaft. With the greatest respect Jack, as someone who has been an activist and continual member of a centre Right party and movements since 1992 I have learnt to take no notice of political gadflies.
Meanwhile, no doubt rubbing their hands at the prospect of adding to their already excessive wealth, the globalists are quietly planning more measures to convince us that their global government is the answer to all our ills. Nothing happens by chance when those guys are involved; building their empire requires that everything we might hold dear has first to be destroyed. They are doing a pretty good job so far aided by their plants in government. I wonder what BoJo is up to behind the scenes?
The UK seems to be well on it’s way to third world status.
Actual third worlders arrive unasked in droves on our shores while our government is in a turmoil previously only seen in third world countries, Blatant self interest rules, our MPs are only worried about their cosy jobs with their snouts in the trough.
Meanwhile the workshy population can only prepare for Winter Armageddon.
Fill up your freezers. Get the firewood in. Buy your Winter warmers.
You read about it first in Independence Daily:-

Do you have a wind-up freezer too HA.
Read the article. I have a petrol generator which can run them in the event of power cuts.
Harry F Again- Miles of copper wire within. And petrol! What, juice of the Devil? Not very green is it?
Especially when you could have rare earth metal storage batteries, powered by a small windmill with maraging steel blades to charge it.
