Health warning: don’t drink while reading – put down your mugs!

 

Not much can surprise me nowadays when I look at how our MSM are MSMplaining the world to us, but there are days when the gap between the headlines – print or online – and the actual news is so huge that I wonder if anyone in the venerable institutions called ‘Teh Press’ is still capable of connecting dots, never mind apologising about having abandoned plain reporting for woke propaganda, for ‘driving the agenda’ and ‘framing the narrative’. 

Firstly, a quick glance at the print editions in the usual place (link): today they’re about ‘profit from misery’, ‘scumbags’ and ‘energy firms soaring profits insult workers’. Yes, you guessed correctly: that last one was from the Grauniad. There’s also a secondary piece of news: the ‘NHS child gender clinic’ which has been handing out puberty blockers is to close because these drugs are now deemed ‘unsafe’.  For the sporty ones: the Commonwealth Games opened in Birmingham with a ‘spectacular show’, with a huge mechanical bull. No, I’ve no idea why or wherefore such bull was needed, but I’m sure it’ll have cost lots of money.

Now let’s take a closer look at those ‘energy profits’. The Guardian has the relevant numbers and quotes from two CEOs and the TUC head honcho (link) – quite staggering. The dots which aren’t being connected: the MSM outcry not touching the reasons for those profits, i.e. the world energy markets scrabbling since February to get gas and oil as best they can thanks to sanctions –  a situation which has affected world energy markets – and the green Net Zero policies which have led to under-investment in infrastructure.

We recall the reports from a year ago about the lack of critical reserve gas storage. That was a one-day wonder then and didn’t matter to the government because they were trying to wean us all off gas anyway ‘because: renewables!’.  Yesterday I wrote about that near-blackout in London and how this was caused by non-investments in critical infrastructure. Today we find that the GLA (Greater London Authority) has told developers that they “may be prevented from starting projects in west London until 2035 because the electricity grid has run out of capacity to power new homes.” (link, paywalled).

Oh dear! Who could have foreseen that new homes would need electricity and water of which we again don’t have enough ‘because: drought! Climate Change!’. The DM has diligently copied from The Times, giving us a nice photo from the London Mayor who ‘is very concerned’ that there won’t be new housing (link). This calamity was also picked up by the DT, adding another twist to this saga of misery:

“Energy companies and regulators are scrambling to fix the problem while Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng has ordered officials to monitor the situation. The holdup promises to delay a string of schemes in London, where a typical property costs £526,000. Builders have raised fears that the issue may not be confined to the capital. The problem is understood to affect some areas in the Thames Valley as well. In a letter to developers, the Greater London Authority blamed the issues in west London on a string of planned data centres that are set to hoover up huge amounts of power.” (paywalled link)

While it’s good to know that the Business Secretary has ordered his minions to ‘monitor’ the situation, I wonder why our MSM, especially the lefty ones, haven’t made more of the ‘rich’ not deserving new homes while workers, especially in London, live in misery. I wonder why nobody, from the monitoring government down to the newsrooms, asks if perhaps housing ever more ‘newcomers’ might perhaps have an effect on the precarious infrastructure of energy and water supplies. I wonder how government will balance the demands of becoming a ‘hi-tech country’ where data centres are ‘hoovering up electricity’ with the demand for housing.

Let’s also not ask how “we” are supposed to become an ever more ‘hi-tech’ country when ‘electhow on earth “we”, i.e. government and industry, will manage to build such infrastructure when raw materials are in short supply while costing more than we can afford. But don’t be afraid – ‘help’ is at hand, a help clearly not affected by inflation, lack of raw materials, shortage of shipping and workers. 

In the best hysterical piece of ‘jam tomorrow’ he’s ever penned, Ambrose Evans-Pritchard writes that all will be well, under this headline: “Britain will soon have a glut of cheap power, and world-leading batteries to store it – Trailblazing Britain is leading the most ambitious rollout of offshore wind in the world” (paywalled link). He uses data from ‘RenewablesUK’, so that’s alright then.

Of course, we’re not told how and with what those bird shredders with their ‘high-tech turbines’ and those ‘world-leading batteries’ will be produced. Nor are we told how these ‘trail-blazing’ things will be paid for. It will happen, just believe, shut up and wail about ‘scumbag’ energy bosses if you have to open your mouth!

As the reality of ‘rubbing the Tories’ noses in’ by uncontrolled immigration finally bites, another woke shibboleth is also biting the dust – or is it? This woke scandal has come at an untold cost of lifelong misery to thousands of children. The Times reports that: “The gender identity development service at Tavistock & Portman NHS trust will close next spring after a review found that it was not a “safe or viable long-term option”(link, paywalled) – how bland!

We’re told that this ‘controversial treatment’ will now be taken over by NHS children’s clinics – so it’ll still go on. There’s more. This  sickening report comes from the DT (my emphasis):

“Eighteen years ago, Susan Evans blew the whistle on the NHS’s only gender identity service for young people at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust. […] She saw a service that was under “tremendous pressure” from trans campaign groups such as Mermaids […] Her complaints prompted an internal inquiry in 2004, but nothing changed […] In the 18 years that followed, as more than 20,000 children were referred, history repeated itself.” (paywalled link)

From time to time during those eighteen years, voices were raised but the writers were either howled down or their articles simply fell by the wayside, provided they were even published. Here’s another stunning quote:

“In 2011-12 there were under 250 referrals to GIDs [Gender Identity development services], by 2021-22 there were over 5,000. What was particularly alarming was that a few years ago the referrals were nearly all boys, and yet now it is nearly all girls presenting with “gender incongruence” in their early teens. Is this social contagion? Are there maybe very good reasons why teenage girls feel their lives might be easier without an adult female body?” (paywalled link)

I’ll not speculate about such ‘very good reasons’ but simply try to understand why teenage girls ‘feel’ they have these reasons despite the advantages of being female while maleness has become utterly toxic, not least thanks to our MSM. I’ll also point to the date when the first criticism was raised and brushed aside: 2004.

We oldies remember who was in government at that time. We also remember that ‘immigration’ and ‘diversity’ were pushed down our throats as ‘a good thing’ by that government. There’s one final news item reported by the DM: “White pupils are now least likely to go to university after drive to make intakes more diverse” (link), showing that “we”, that the universities, are not racist.

As we remember which political party was responsible for creating this depressing, dystopian society, we should be aware that this same party is now being pushed as viable alternative to the Tories. We should also remember that the political party currently in government has clearly done eff all during the last dozen years to change those policies they inherited. 

Never forget who was instrumental in suppressing criticism of those policies while pushing them onto us: our MSM. Never forget that they promoted the policies and politicians responsible for the utter mess our country is in. Never forget that it’s not about ‘the economy, stupid’ but about the communities and wider society which they’ve changed beyond recognition.

Never was the word more true, that man does not live by bread alone …
