It gives me great pleasure to report a EU decision which Remainers overlooked

 

 

This week will be a hot one – not because of yon heatwave which is hitting us from today, according to forecasts and the inevitable MSM headlines, but because of the Tory Party leadership race. Nothing could show better the deplorable state of the Parliamentary Tory Party where MPs and indeed candidates are already slinging mud at each other. Meanwhile, important news are not even mentioned. We need to look at reports from the USA and India to find out. More on that below.

A look at this morning’s headlines exacerbated my nausea and despair (link) because they illustrate yet again how pernicious the Westminster MSM are. The Red Tops are the worst, with the DM screeching that Sunak must be in cahoots with ‘toxic Cummings’. No, there’s no proof, there’s only this:

“Mr Cummings has posted ‘poisonous’ claims online about Mr Sunak’s rivals for the Tory leadership, but the former Chancellor’s team insisted he had not spoken to the controversial adviser since he left No 10 in late 2020. A rival Tory leadership campaign source said Mr Sunak should ‘come clean’ about whether his team had any links to Mr Cummings – or if they had been in contact with him.” (link)

Not only is this ‘source’ behaving like the worst example from totalitarian regimes of the last century where spurious relationships with an ‘unperson’ were sufficient to jail them, no: our glorious MSM are happily playing their game by quoting anonymous sources which are so obviously biased that any editor worth their salt ought to have binned the whole thing.

The other headline is equally ridiculous. According to the print edition of The Express, Mr Zahawi wails that he’s being smeared over his taxes! (Scroll down a bit here). That’s gone from the online edition, but it is yet another instance of ‘allies’ of competing candidates gleefully muddying the waters. 

Why do the MSM editors think they need to do this? Do they believe that MPs, the colleagues of all those candidates, are going to be swayed by reading such smears in the national press? Isn’t the horse-trading going on in the HoC corridors not sufficiently interesting? Or would the ‘journalists’ need to know a bit more about how things work in regard to nominations? Can they not function without quotes from their ‘sources’? 

Be this as it may, the procedure and probable timetable is described in this article in yesterday’s ConHome (link), a site accessible to all, even the Westminster hacks or whoever is tasked with the copy&paste jobs when ‘sources’ aren’t available. You might also look at this live list of candidates and their backers which will be updated and amended. I was intrigued to see that Ben Wallace, who topped the Tory Party’s internal popularity poll, isn’t standing. I’d love to learn why not …

The other one who has been a regular popularity list-topper, Miz Truss, has now declared her candidacy and is ‘standing against Sunak’ by proclaiming she’d cut taxes from the get-go, according to the leading ‘exclusive’ article in the DT (paywalled link). She’s also penned (or had penned) an opinion piece for the DT which is … precious, writing:

“I am putting myself forward because I can lead, deliver and make the tough decisions. I have a clear vision of where we need to be, and the experience and resolve to get us there. I will fight the election as a Conservative and govern as a Conservative. I will hit the ground running as prime minister, whether it is in ensuring Vladimir Putin loses in Ukraine or getting the economy going.” (paywalled link)

Rah-effing-rah! PR slogans but no substance. A joker in the DT’s newsroom actually used a photo of her with Mr Lavrov whose opinion (low!) of her is well known. Remember that at their first meeting she displayed her ignorance by saying that Rostov-on-Don ought to be returned to the Ukraine …

Another Tory politician, that very good friend of ‘her upstairs’, has also written something for the DT readers, aimed at the leadership candidates. It won’t come as any surprise that this is Zac Goldsmith. He declared that “Ditching net zero would be electoral suicide for Conservatives” (paywalled link). Oh dear. Not only does he seem blissfully unaware of such mundane things like inflation, he seems to believe that fuel poverty, that the rising prices in gas and electricity, doesn’t affect voters at all. He concludes:

“Some candidates are already promising to abandon our climate and environment commitments, and others are maintaining an ominous silence. Yet if we throw away the UK’s international leadership on the environment, we will lose the support of a broad coalition of voters. We will be digging our electoral grave.” (paywalled link)

No, that grave is already well and truly dug by Goldsmith’s ‘Net Zero’, by the imbecilic policies of ditching gas as home fuel, by the demand to replace all gas boilers by 2030. Since the Green Big Wigs are operating internationally, here’s an interesting development which hasn’t made it into our MSM. Perhaps the BJ ‘will he – won’t he go’ theatre was too important to find a space somewhere. 

It’s a decision by the EU Parliament. This omission is surprising, given that our Remain-sodden MSM and MPs are generally slapping EU decisions round our heads. Reuters reported on the 6th of July: “The European Parliament on Wednesday backed EU rules labelling investments in gas and nuclear power plants as climate-friendly,” (link), as did CNBC (link) and an Indian news site (link). How could our green MSM have missed this vote?

Rounding up, there was also a report that Ukrainian ‘activists’ demanded the EU Parliament reject this ‘gas vote’ because ‘it would be a vote for Putin’ (link). Funny that Lord Goldsmith omitted this clear call to support Net Zero because doing otherwise would make one a Putinophile. I believe Miz Truss really ought to pick up that sort of reasoning for her campaign! 

Perhaps Lord Goldsmith ought to have addressed an educational issue rather than warbling about Net Zero. The Times writes:

“Children should be taught more about plants to help to address climate change, scientists have said. A new study claims that pupils have become “disconnected from the botanical world” when understanding flora has become crucial to ecology. Even students starting master’s degrees in biology lack a “basic” ability to identify plants, the research suggests. Data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency reveals that from 2007 to 2019 one student graduated in plant science for every 185 who qualified in other life science degrees. The lack of botanical knowledge means people cannot identify invasive species and damage is being done as trees are planted in the wrong places and wildflower meadows are harmed.” (link, paywalled)

Isn’t this typical for all those Net Zero Gretaists! They shout about ‘saving the planet’, demand the culling of farm animals as in the Netherlands, forbid using fertiliser as in Sri Lanka where this diktat has led to such a crash in rice production that the people have now toppled their government. They spout slogans and threats about ‘losing the election’ – but haven’t the faintest idea about ecology, about plants from wildflowers to trees. 

Meanwhile our MSM indulge in exacerbating the blood sport that is the Tory Leadership campaign, promoting candidates which claim to be the greenest, most tax-lowering contestant who will also ‘stand against Putin’ while doing nothing about overpopulating our country with immigrants, legal and illegal. 

Enjoy the heatwave while it lasts. We all know what happens when ‘the authorities’ impose a hosepipe ban: torrents of rain, that’s what.
