When nudging doesn’t work any longer …
Today is the vernal equinox, the astronomical start of Spring. Even though the sun may not be visible for all of us, the garden birds certainly ‘know’. Their wonderful dawn chorus is now hard at work. Make the most of it because on the coming Sunday the clocks go forward and the mornings will again be as dark as in winter.
Speaking of winter: the good old Star is again stepping out of line. Their front page tells us that winter is going to make a comeback, with snow and icy temperatures. Well, this has never happened before, so it’s certainly newsworthy. The rest of the lot – check it out here – has the Rwanda scheme as their top news, followed by the erstwhile PM, BJ, allegedly having ‘a dossier’ rebutting the ‘Lockdown Partygate’ hearing.
We are also told that the Swiss Bank UBS will buy up the crashed ‘Credit Suisse’ bank. Looking at all those print frontpages there’s one striking omission: there’s not one report about the Ukraine. That is surprising because, as far as I understand, yon war is still going on. We’ve also not heard anything from Mr Wallace about handing over more of our arms. What is going on?
Still, the DT editors needed to poke the bear just a little bit, reporting that Mr Putin visited ‘the scene of his crime’ on the weekend. This referred to his visit to Mariupol – this is, you understand, ‘occupied’ territory – and to the arrest warrant published by the International Criminal Court at the weekend. Of course, the DT only quotes Ukrainian PR statements:

It came as Britain pledged £395,000 to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to help convict the Russian leader. Ohh – I feel a ‘Lancaster House declaration’ coming on …! I’ll refrain from pointing out that Mr Khan allegedly got his brother, a former Tory MP, out of jail where he lingered for alleged pedophile crimes. I’ll also not mention that suddenly Mr Raab is a nice person and not a terrible bully. After all, he’s helping to prosecute Mr Putin.
Naive as I am I wonder why the ICC represents “Teh World” when neither the USA nor Russia nor China have signed up for this ‘court’. I also wonder why evacuating children from war zones is now a ‘war crime’. And I really do wonder why yon ICC isn’t mentioning other ‘war crimes’ in their accusations. Wasn’t there something called ‘Bucha’ which had “Teh World”, or rather: the western MSM, in an uproar about a year ago?
Moreover, isn’t it interesting that this ‘arrest warrant’ was published precisely at the time when Mr Xi, the leader of China, is coming to visit Moscow? Reading between the lines in the report by the DT – The Times hasn’t updated their online front page as of yet – it becomes obvious why this arrest warrant was presented to the public at the weekend, ‘just in time’ (my emphasis):
“While China has insisted it remains neutral over the war in Ukraine, Mr Xi and Mr Putin have met and spoken several times since the war began, continuing to hail their “no-limits” friendship. Mr Xi has also refrained from denouncing Russia for invading Ukraine. Experts say such close ties mean China has no credibility in playing a role in peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, despite Beijing repeatedly suggesting the idea.” (paywalled link)
The really close ally of Mr Z, the USA and their president, is of course totally neutral and would therefore have lots of ‘credibility’ in any ‘peace talks’ – peace talks which can obviously not involve the president of Russia because ‘he’s a criminal’. Equally obviously, NATO and the glorious EU have oodles of credibility because they’re ‘neutral’ and are not criminals at all. Isn’t life easy if one simply accepts our government propaganda!
I simply cannot resist leaving you with news about bikes. The Times dedicated a report on this issue, under the headline: “Bike sales fall to lowest level in 20 years – Pandemic boom has become bust despite millions spent on cycle lanes” (link, paywalled).
We’re presented with various reasons for this ‘bust’, from moans that there are still too many potholes to people have satiated their desire for bikes to kids having become lazy. They just don’t wanna bike no more. And wouldn’t you know it – right at the end of this report we read:
“The Bicycle Association is calling on the government to commit to multi-year funding for Active Travel England, the agency that promoted walking and cycling.” (link, paywalled).
Yes: hand over more of our tax money to ‘nudge’ us into proper Net Zero behaviour! Let the plebs pay for their own re-education! I suggest people don’t buy bikes any longer because they’ve learned that they get stolen immediately, with no police action. Why throw good money after bad during inflation?
That’s all I have for today. I wonder if the ICC will next issue an arrest warrant for Mr Xi, because: covid lab leak! Ah well – let’s instead enjoy the first day of spring …

I don’t ‘do’ social media but I do have a Twitter Facebook Instagram account because so many people/organisations and political parties do use it. Many UKIP branches didn’t have websites they just had a Facebook page and it seemed to suffice. We can’t undo the tech advancements on mobile phones/social media etc they are here to stay. You can to some extent work your way around the privacy/ snooping thing by having spare Pay As you Go. ‘burner’ sims as I do and just have a contract sim for friends/business etc.
Anyway, the Reform Party had a press meeting announcing that about 9 or ten Brexit Party MEP including Ann Widdecombe are joining the Reform Party and becoming activists again. That’s good news especially, as I expect they will stand at the next general election in marginal Tory seats.
Only thing that bothered me was when the Daily Express reporter asked if the Reform Party seek to reform or replace the Tory Party. Richard Rice went a bit wobbly and seemed to equivocate. I have long wanted to know the answer and it seems it is still not clear.
Having said that this is a positive step forward for the Reform Party.
Jake….its a pity that a politically clued up person wasn’t present to ask Tice whether he intended to democratise the party and and go all out to form local branches made up of members who in time would form the activist base. Without an activist base Reform UK doesn’t stand a hope in hell. The man is politically naive and clueless.
Colin @ 5;13 I do have sympathy with your views Colin but there is a fairly valid point to made that there isn’t time to build up a national network of branches in time for 2024 election (or even earlier). Regional organisers will be in place which is what the Brexit Party used to fairly good effect. Also, most of the activist/candidates will be able to maximise Zoom and the internet to communicate with each other. Having said that, there may be moves afoot to create a branch network – who knows at this stage.
I was an Regional Organiser, and it wasn’t effective. Not one bit. In 2019 it was just me and the candidate doing all the work with nobody else to help, and had to get UKIP activists to help out. You just simply cannot use Zoom and the Internet to connect with the electorate. You need boots on the ground, in other words activists and a lot of them. Muddled thinking abounds, and thank goodness I wont be involved.

Jake………….some big announcement, Reform UK must take us for fools. Nigel Farage has announced that he is returning to the fray by being involved in an honorary and advisory capacity. Big bloody deal. What has significantly changed since yesterday, last week, last month, or last year. Not a lot by all account, apart from unnamed people sharing the burden. Farage was the honorary President was he not so I would assume as a shareholder of the company he would have had some input already as to the direction of the party. I would have been far more impressed had Farage stated that Tice had decided to stand down, and that he had resumed leadership of the party. If that had occurred, I would have gone online immediately and rejoined the party, but as its more of the same with the same ineffectual leader there is effectively no change at all, I will save myself the £30.00 in the circumstances.
In addition to above……….this utterly ludicrous announcement by Richard Tice was made in a panelled room where most of the seats were untaken and to which the press were invited. Amateurish in the extreme was my take on it. At the very least Tice should have got members on board and got them to take all the seats to give the impression that the room or hall was full. It sums Reform UK up for me in a nutshell. Not good enough and not good enough by far….
Colin. I understand your sentiments but I am not as enamoured of Farage as some are. So a back room role is fine by me. Sad to say, I haven’t forgiven him for his parting shots with UKIP. His utterly stupid statement saying ‘his job was done’ immediately after the referendum sent members and activists rushing for the door and at the same time ringing the death knell for UKIP. His nasty, unfounded remarks about the competence of the National Executive committee are still used to slag off UKIP as is his intimation that the Party was becoming extremist. I never joined or supported the Brexit Party and I am glad I didn’t as I would have been calling for him to be shot after he marched his men up the hill and back down again gifting the wretched Tories an 80 seat majority to suck up to the globalist agenda, unleash mass immigration, roll out net zero madness and failed to deliver the Brexit we voted for.
Jake……it sounds to me as if you have been taken in by it all, and there was me thinking you were a fully paid up member of UKIP. The sad of the matter is that nothing has changed despite the mock hype. Same ineffective leader in charge of a party that will not go anywhere. I would have joined the party had Farage, Ben Habib or Belinda De Lucy become its leader. All three speak well and passionately, and are believable, and would have at least done a half decent job. As a consequence I will attend the polling station at the local elections and spoil my ballot paper, as I will also do at the next general election. As someone else has said this past week on this site, nobody sits up and takes notice when there are only 0.1% spoilt ballot papers, but they would do so if there was 25% of ballot papers spoiled.
Unless there is some sensible cooperation between the various opposition parties that I might support then my default position is to spoil the ballot paper with some suitable comment as I did in the local elections. I might also contact those various parties and explain why I won’t be voting for them.

TG Spokes……..there is a difference of opinion between the right of centre political parties and what policies they should pursue, and more importantly they all have individual leaders who think that their party is the one that will make the unlikely electoral breakthrough in due course. If there were to be a loose alliance of such parties who would decide what individual leader should be the main official spokesman. As it stands at the moment the right of centre political party which attracts most votes albeit pretty damn low and not likely to make an electoral breakthrough any time soon is Reform UK. And I for one wouldn’t want Richard Tice leading a loose alliance because he is about as effective as a chocolate fireguard. You say if they don’t come together they should be destroyed. By what method should they be destroyed and who would replace them. I would be more interested if you had said that the Conservative Party, Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats should be destroyed as they are the parties that have brought this country to its knees. If you do want to turn them off I found them at the bottom of the list of Notifications on my phone. Something I didn’t even know was there.
This may work: Go to settings on your phone, scroll down to apps and notifications, click on advanced and scroll down to emergency alerts and make sure all the alerts are off. You could also put the phone in an empty tin to stop radio waves. Just turning the phone off may not be enough..
I see the pseudo scientists are pushing their climate change projections again (BBC) this morning. How they consider their predictions accurate based on a few years of “data”, quite possibly selected to give the required result, is astonishing. However, as usual, that “data” is selected to give the required result. “Scientists” they are not.
