The masks drop: it’s really about crushing Brexit

 

In the aftermath of that North Shropshire by-election it’s breath-taking to watch the Westminster MSM in full swing, gleefully taking their wrecking ball to the Johnson government. Nothing wrong with that – it’s the quality of their wrecking ball which is questionable. It’s more indicative of their own hypocrisy and sleaze than of the Tory Party.

It’s the MSM who determine what we plebs talk about. Thus they’ve now turned the public discourse on covid and omicron, hysterical and overblown as it was and is, into a sideshow. Instead of several articles and reports, never mind analyses, about Javid’s and his civil serpent covid under-tsars extraordinary confession, that the scare number of 200,000 daily new cases is ’no longer valid’ but was only ‘a snapshot’, there’s only one in the DT (paywalled link). The ‘excuse’ by those experts is that the measures so far must have worked. Of course they did …!

Instead we get ‘vox populi’, with reporters braving the rural hinterland, interviewing voters in Oswestry about their voting decision. Funnily enough, these are mostly over-50s and were outraged by ‘sleaze’ and ‘that party’. There are two interesting observations which made me sit up because they amply demonstrate that our esteemed MSM are asking the wrong questions – on purpose. For example, after a long list of people who voted LibDem because of ‘that party’ and ‘that sleaze’, there’s only this one ‘vox pop’:

“There was some support for the government however. Simon Walker, 48, a labourer, and one of 12,000 voters who stood by the Conservatives, said: “I know Boris is going through a rough patch at the moment but I still think he is the man for the job. I think he’s been advised badly but he still has the best interests of people at heart. Boris deserves time to put things right.” (link, paywalled)

While this quote – the only one supporting Johnson – is rather moving, note well the label ‘labourer’. This is ‘framing the narrative’ with a vengeance, letting the proverbial animal out of the proverbial bag, namely that It’s the proper middle classes, those who’ve had a much better life during lockdowns and the rest of the restrictions who are now ‘horrified’ by Johnson’s SpAds ‘breaking the rules’.

These are the same people who have successfully turned Labour into a lefty middle class party, lording it over the traditional, blue-collar clientele. These people only know loyalty to themselves, as this other quote demonstrates:

“Many of these voters were first-time Conservative supporters whose willingness to stick with the party is perhaps all too easily eroded if their confidence in its ethics and competence are shaken.” (link, paywalled)

If politics and voting decisions are thus going to be about ethics, wouldn’t it behove the MSM to investigate if there were similar Christmas Parties for the office workers and activists of Labour politicians? Would Labour politicians really not reward their workers with a bit of festive cheer? Better not ask, right, dear MSM ‘reporters’? After all, there were no Christmas parties in the MSM newsrooms, not in the BBC, not in the print papers – certainly not! Would MSM ‘workers’ leak against each other? The idea …! And anyway, if it’s not reported it didn’t happen, right? 

The latest ‘omigawd- would you look at the hypocrisy!’ shock-horror is that the office workers of the Whitehall mandarin of mandarins, Simon Case, also had a ‘Christmas Party’ of which he must have known. This was helpfully leaked to the press as well. Case has recused himself from investigating the No 10 party, the investigation has now been taken over by one of Gove’s mandarins (link, paywalled and paywalled link). The delicious question is: are the other mandarins trying to topple him – or is that snake in the grass on a thorough anti-johnson government rampage?

And that brings us full circle to the Tory Party. The appeasers are out in full force, from one MP declaring that this was ‘two strikes’ and Johnson would have to go after a third one to others who declare that this isn’t the right time for a leadership contest, that perhaps the summer would do, after the local elections in May. Yeah right.

Meanwhile the leakers, the anonymous ‘gossipers’, are busily taking aim at Sunak. Again – nowt wrong with criticising him. what’s wrong is that it’s again done by anonymous gossip, that they’re spending time leaking to the MSM to blacken the names of perceived rivals, for example Sunak, alleging that he’d warned Johnson about not being too hard to Brussels (paywalled link). The MSM are happily lapping it up, painting the Tory lot as a bunch of incompetents in disarray, either partying, sleazing or knifing each other in the back. This is an exemplary quote:

“One cabinet minister referred to leading Covid rebels as “grumpy men in suits”. “Regicide is in their DNA, they can’t help themselves,” the minister said. “Whoever’s leader won’t be good enough for them because they think they are better. They are disenfranchised and bitter.” The prime minister, they said, finds himself sandwiched between two groups of MPs — Brexiteers who are “Ukippers in sheep’s clothing” and Remainers who are still plotting to remove him. “He has two packs hunting him down,” they said. “Nothing he does will satisfy either.” (link, paywalled)

Now it becomes finally clear: it’s about the old fight between Leave and Remain. ‘Sleaze’ and ‘parties’ are a welcome pretext. The Westminster swamp was and is Remain to the core. Labour was Remain and is now, under Starmer, “Rejoin”. The Remain middle classes who have never forgiven us plebs for voting ‘Leave’ are poised to roll back our victory. Sleaze in Labour – remember the criminal convictions for some of their MPs? – is irrelevant, as it their institutional antisemitism.

It’s again all about Brexit. The lockdown rules have shown that the Remain WFH middle classes who rely on the workers to keep the country running and make their cushy lives possible –  from frontline NHS staff to delivery drivers, shelf stackers and rubbish removal workers – will use anything to keep intact this class division. Of course they desire Labour to ‘get in’. They’ve infiltrated that Party, they shun and despise the actual workers as illustrated by their own partying at ‘events’ such as the G7 meeting and COP26 where the servants are muzzled up while they themselves enjoy food and drink.

So if we need to talk about stinking hypocrisy then let’s talk about the stinking hypocrisy of the WFH, labour-voting middle classes and the hypocrisy of the Westminster swamp in which lefty middle class swamp critters are in the majority. There’s the lefty Archbishop of York deploring that people in churches ‘couldn’t sing’ because ‘rulz, but footie fans could (paywalled link) – how dare the peasants enjoy themselves! There’s the report of three-hour queues at Dover yesterday, with Brits trying to get into France before Macron’s edict struck at midnight (paywalled link). Who, please, can afford to go on winter holidays in France? Not the low-paid labourer or shelf stacker who might not even have a job to come back to. 

This is the pervading hypocrisy of the lefty middle classes. Some Tories are playing right into their hands by leaking to the MSM, undermining their colleagues in order to become the leader of a party which they themselves are busily discrediting. There is for example that Tory MP Julian Smith, a former government chief whip and ex-Cabinet minister who criticised Sir John Redwood for his tweet in which he criticised the BBC. Mr Smith admonished Sir John Redwood thus: “Usual tricks’ is an unnecessary slur & just corrodes trust in another UK institution on the basis of no fact.” (paywalled link).

Words simply fail me! So it’s ok to leak anonymously to the MSM and the BBC, corroding trust in the government – but ‘trust in the holy BBC’ must not be corroded! You might well call it brown-nosing the BBC – I couldn’t possibly comment!
