Abused, betrayed and neglected by ‘caring’ social services
First things first: everything is alright at Independence Daily Towers. I didn’t feel a thing nor did I wake up nor was my resident collie disturbed. I am of course speaking of yon earthquake which hit the Rhondda around midnight. It’s coming to something though when a national rag, the DM, has a better report with a good geological map (link) than the local rag, i.e. walesonline (link). Perhaps it was just a kick up the posterior for the Welsh rugby players facing England later today …
Next, the usual romp across the print MSM front pages (link). Gawd, it’s all so tedious and predictable. Again, honours go to The Star, now fully into turnips. Allegedly people are ‘stockpiling’ them as supermarkets have sold out of yon veg. ‘Tis nice of theStar reporters to elevate Ms Coffey’s quip into ‘government guidance’.
There was one report published yesterday evening in the DT which is worth referring to because it illuminates the utterly dire straits government services are in. It also provides a background for the larger scandal described in a book which was published two days ago. I’ve read yon book during the last couple of days. It describes a scandal which, although it has its roots in the last century, is symptomatic of our woke-drenched society. More on that below.
And so, to the report: it is about a ‘team manager’ for social services dealing with vulnerable children who WFH, living more than 100 miles away from the team and those children (this and the following emphases are mine):
“A social worker for vulnerable children in Gloucester lives and works from home on the Isle of Wight, The Telegraph can reveal. The manager, who oversees a team looking after disabled children, lives more than 100 miles away. A one-way trip takes four hours, including a ferry journey. The issue has been raised by the parents of Jacob Parsons, who has autism, ADHD, and Tourette’s syndrome. He struggles with mood swings, agitation and anxiety.” (paywalled link)
It gets worse. This manager, WFH from the Isle of Wight, had of course underlings in her team, one of whom was the case worker for this poor boy. You couldn’t make this up:
“Jacob’s social worker predominantly works from her home in Malvern, Worcester, around an hour’s drive from the family home in Gloucester, they claim. They say she has cancelled and rescheduled five face-to-face visits over the past year. Meanwhile, the team leader lives in the Isle of Wight. They say they have only met her in person once, 18 months ago.” (paywalled link).
Another WFHer … I hope the Starmer-wing of the Uniparty will refrain from bleating about ‘Toree cuts’ when their sacred social workers are happily WFH, not even seeing their clients. The weasel words of Gloucester Council deserve to be quoted, for the record:
“Gloucestershire County Council’s children’s services previously had an inadequate rating. In April 2022, Ofsted rated it as “requires improvement to be good”. A spokesperson for Gloucestershire County Council said: “We always aim to provide all children and families with the best possible support that most effectively meets their needs. We will always look into any concerns or issues raised with us, either in relation to our services or a family’s experience of engaging with us. We are sorry to hear the family are dissatisfied and we will continue working with them to discuss their concerns and see what other options may be possible.” (paywalled link)
How nice: the councils’ aims are so good, how dare people to be ‘dissatisfied’! At least they’ll ‘keep working with them’ rather than just chucking them to the wolves for having dared to complain.
This example is the perfect background for the book I mentioned above. Its title is “Time to think”, the author is Hannah Barnes. It’s about the scandal at GIDS, at the Tavistock Trust, which was originally set up to help children with gender dysphoria, using ‘talking therapies’, e.g. psychoanalysis. This service was started in 1989.
In the mid-noughties the medical ‘therapy’ using puberty blockers was introduced. This solution was then pushed as the only therapy from the 2010s onwards. It was meant to give those children ‘time to think’ about their gender ‘choice’ while alleviating their distress from going through puberty.
The decision to use those puberty blockers, even on children as young as 10 years old, was based on one (!) report by a Dutch clinic. That report had been picked up around the world even though the Dutch selection criteria for their small number of clients was never applied.
The heads of GIDS did try to develop a research project because obviously nobody knew at that time if and for whom the treatment would work best. That project was rejected by the research council because there was no control group – an unforgivable error. The excuse that the children were suffering and needed to be treated is and remains unacceptable because the aim of that clinic was ‘speaking therapies’, not medical intervention. A control group was thus readily available.
The book describes how local social services referred more and more troubled kids to the clinic where the NHS would pay for their treatment, washing their local social services’ hands off them. These kids showed the same spectrum of mental illnesses as the boy mentioned in the report on the WFH ‘manager’. If such children mentioned ‘gender’, they were sent off to be ‘treated’. I learned a new word though: children are no longer ‘in care’, they are now ‘looked-after children’, I kid you not.
Then there are the numbers. From around 2015 onwards, more and more adolescent girls were referred, demanding this treatment which was meant for children who had not yet entered puberty. Nobody asked why that suddenly was the case. Authors in the USA had already pointed out the pernicious influence of social media and pressure groups, but those clinicians who did raise their concerns were brushed off by their clinic managers and were accused of being ‘trans-phobe’.
Repeatedly the book describes how severely troubled children were referred to this sex-change clinic without anyone in those local authorities providing any service alleviating these mental illnesses. Some clinicians at GIDS who did not put those kids on the medical conveyor belt of puberty blockers – sex hormones – surgery found that ‘talking treatment’, when given a chance, made those ‘gender change wishes’ go away. Meanwhile nobody knows what the long-term effects are which those newly ‘trans’ children will face later in life.
One significant attitude in that clinic, from the top down, was that these children ‘knew’ what they wanted. They were not to be questioned because that was ‘disrespectful and trans-phobic’. When figures of authority – and what could be more authoritative than a clinical psychoanalyst! – are working from the premise that ‘the child is right’ it’s not surprising that kids have grown up with no boundaries. This mindset, after all, is taught at universities and has been trickling down into medical and social services as well as schools for a generation.
We should also ask how and why it is that WFH is still acceptable in areas where personal contact, face-to-face, is of huge importance. The incessant wail that there’s no money for more social workers falls flat on its face when one becomes aware of the many ‘managers’ managing ‘compliance’ of their underlings, never mind all the ‘diversity’ and other ‘managers.
The full title of the book is “Time to Think: The Inside Story of the Collapse of the Tavistock’s Gender Service for Children”, the author is Hannah Barnes. You can buy it in all the usual places. If there are reviews in tomorrow’s papers I’ll let you know.
That’s all I have for today. Frankly, after reading this book I am even more disgusted by our MSM which provide propaganda theatre rather than spending time and effort to dig out the scandals up and down the country perpetrated by ideology driven ‘social’ services, schools, academe and medicine. Have a good weekend.
You just know when you read on the BBC online news site like today that when Leo Varadkar has been boasting about the impending signing of the Northern Ireland trade deal, that the new deal which will replace the existing NI protocol will be a crap deal for Britain. I fully expect our misguided and worse than useless prime minister will sell this country down the river and cave in to the demands of the European Commission. If that is the case, he will be toast. The Conservatives have given up on this country, and to be honest come the next general election the majority of the electorate will give up on them. His tenure as prime minister should be held up as a text book example of how not to run a country. If they foul these negotiations up, I feel that they will never be entrusted to run the country ever again. They are going down the same route of the Liberal Party of the early 20th century. The problem for us however, who will replace them?
“worse than useless prime minister”; I prefer the term “treasonous prime minister” for that is what he seems to me.
After several months of occasional watching telly I now only watch perhaps two programs of GBNews.. and three of their reporters. Since I am very slow ( By choice ), and cannot nowadays think, consider and analyse my opinion quickly enough. This comment is limited to generalities. So IMHO.
Every presenter cannot stop itself from its own idiotic opinion.
With a few notable exceptions, .The left AND right commentators are distressingly ill informed.
Both left and right , but in particular the lefties. Who swim in an ocean of platitudes, slogans, and wrong assumptions. AND actually believe and persuasive in the nonsense they purvey because they are so eager and familiar with the closest misconception. This means No original thought. No ideas no nothing, just new words and slogans. I’m tired of it.
I some-times feel, that in spite of their assumed sincerity , that the left is not worth fighting. Just ask the question of every sentence.
TG Spokes…..do you know I agree with you with regard to GB News. It was a breath of fresh air when it started in terms of what was on offer, although the production values were a tad naff with the echoing in the studio and the utterly ludicrous and maniacal self advertisements that go on for sometimes four minutes. That hasn’t changed, but the echoing has largely been stopped but some of the presenters are just plain awful, Lawrence Fox and Mark Dolan being two examples. And some of the panellists, well they do my head in with their left wing agendas. Even Nigel Farage’ Talking Pints’ section is becoming crass to the point where I am forced to turn it off. I don’t want to know what ‘Z’ list celebrities are up to……
Hello Viv. Apologies fo not commenting yesterday. I’ll say it today. Yesterday’s ‘Betrayal’ was especially good. You gave us much accurate historical detail and sensible comments. So far as I know lettuce has absolutely no food value for us or any other species! One reason for not saying all that yesterday – T.P.T.B. have devised a new scheme to make my life difficult. I was also engrossed by a comment by Wanderer in John Redwoods Diary, about just how much NATO, EU, and USA, have done to ‘poke the Russian bear’.
Thanks, Pauline – and no need to apologise: this here ain’t no classroom where one has to sign in … or else …
I hope you can defy .TPTB
Now I am most worried about Snake’s Brexit Deal. Looks like he is intending to cave in to the EU in spite of it losing the DUP and Northern Ireland.
No doubt under instruction from his globalist mates / masters.
More squandering of our taxes:
https://www.gbnews.uk/entertainment/fury-as-eurovision-song-contest-to-be-funded-by-31m-subsidy-from-british-taxpayers-why-are-we-paying-for-this-bull/448515
Surely support for this event should be removed along with any other hangovers from our EU membership, whether directly related to it or not.
True Jack T at 12.18pm. Even worse to my mind is that we give overseas aid to China!
That really angers me, the eurovision crap is a total waste of our money- they have as far as I know, have constantly shown they hate Great Britain.
We are treated like a money box!
The real scheming, Janus faced traitors are British citizens from within our own corrupt establishment.
Michael………..chuck your tv on the local rubbish tip and cancel your tv licence through TV Licensing Authority at Darlington and save yourself £157.00 per annum. The standard of television is dire compared with what was dished up 40 years ago. The golden age of Television has passed and has had its day. Time to use your time more wisely and get some new interests…..
Why? Because Ukraine innit! I said last year they would ‘win’, and they will probably ‘win’ again this year. Mind you it is the only thing they will win.
The decline of Western civilisation has reached the point where children belong to the state. Its various agents, from teachers, social workers, doctors, local authorities, and various ‘charities’ to whole institutions feel free to supplant parents and have been inserting themselves into what used to be known as family life that was once only minimally the concern of the state (as when parents failed in basic duties). Its most advance form (for now) is in Sturgeon’s Scotland. There are schools that will indulge a child electing a new gender without informing parents (let alone seek consent from them) and doctors who will perfom medical procedures without informing parents or seeking consent. Underlying this is the breakdown of family life. Single parenthood has proliferated, children lead feral lives on sink estates, and parents are no longer role models for good citizenship – drug dealing or drugged up, or criminals – and so the need for the state to intervene has grown. The insecurity and uncertainty about life in failed families has extended across most of adolescence via social media. The belief that the state knows best leads it to infiltrate areas of life and families that do not need it. A leviathan state is the left’s project (except for muslims who get a pass on child abuse and misogyny) and the desire for power, which most of the state’s agents pursue, is a way of coping with the flux and chaos of identity in a multicultural society. GIDs is the outcome of a society with no anchors.
Charles Moore recently wrote: “The famous separation of church and state is often depicted as the defeat of the former by the latter, but its roots are Christian. Jesus’s words “Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s” were sophisticated political philosophy. From them, a cohabitation of the sacred and the secular within free nations gradually developed. (It is a great problem for democratic pluralism that Islamic thinking still seems to struggle with this subject.)
The pursuit of women’s rights and, more recently of LGBT+ rights, also has Christian roots, via Christianity’s concern for the dignity of each human person and the overriding obligation (which Hitler hated most of all) of compassion. The same applies to the focus on defeating racism.
It is also true, however, that these preoccupations are now so strong in public policy, and in top-down culture such as that offered by the BBC, that they attain to the status of a new religion. The highest religious duty has moved from loving God and neighbour (and relating the two) to loving yourself and whatever identity for that self you choose to select.”
Adolescence used to be a phase without loving yourself as a socially sanctioned leitmotif. Some children would cope better than others, but it was known to be a period of experiment and rebellion as well as acute anxiety for some, but at root just a phase to be passed through until identity and a place in the world was achieved (called adulthood) whereupon autonomy in decision making was realised. Somehow, the idea that adults no longer knew best and that children themselves knew what was best for them took hold in the more deranged corners of left wing thought. Initially, that just led to child-centred education but that in turn led to ‘progressive’ parents boasting how their child is changing gender. (I wonder though if those parents let their children choose their bedtime.)
The existence of GIDS is an indictment of modern decadence as has been the length of time to close the Tavistock though whether it is really closed and not just dispersed is far from clear. But, it is just a more extreme outgrowth of trends that have been underway for decades.
There is absolutely no sign of any of this going into reverse. Badenock may occasionally say something sensible but she is an outlier in Parliament. Her function appears to be to throw some red meat to conservatives to placate them without anything actually changing.
Mark Trafford KC stood as a conservative candidate in Bradford during the 2017 election. the most common question, and only question, he experienced on the doorstep was what was his position on Kashmir. How long before the BBC wants to know every parliamentary candidate’s position on Kashmir?
I agree with Yaram Hozany that unless we win the culture war there will be no space for conservatism – politics is indeed downstream of culture – and Lord Frost recently gave a talk on the same theme. While true, none of these talks makes a shred of difference for while they are strong on diagnosis none have a realistic solution. The demographic base from which a solution might have been possible is shrinking fast. Raspail’s ‘The Camp of the Saints’ and Houilbec’s ‘Submission’ are where we are heading and too little, too late is all we are left with in the culture war.
I recently attended a dinner talk on Voltaire. It would take too long to explain, but I think he must be spinning in his grave. I got into an argument with a well known novelist (and committed Labour party support) about British history after he had butted into a discussion I was having with an American lady opposite me. At root, he could not tolerate some of the points I was making and was trying to shut me down. Oh the irony at a talk on Voltaire.
Stout Yeoman, I agree with your opening statement about children now belonging to the State.
Wasn’t it true of the U.S.S.R.? Isn’t it also true of modern China? It is probably even more evil than what the Jesuits used to do.
Stout Yeoman.
Was, is, freemasonry, Masonic thought, at the heart of this rot of Western civilisation.
It appears that there is far more to freemasonry than is suspected by the local policeman or businessman with the funny handshake.
https://dr-david-harrison.com/papers-articles-and-essays/freemasonry-and-the-frenc
Stout Y : PS: did you ever read The Shadows of Power by James Perloff
Of course SY you are absolutely correct in pointing out the fast closing point of no return for not only our British culture but also our freedoms too. As well as the culture wars the information wars are being cranked up too in order to root snuff out any criticism of the official narrative.
For me, I will engage in any centre Right local activism going in my or local constituencies up to 2024. If the Tories are not totally crushed and the centre Right make serious headway in that election then without doubt it will be sensible to realise that it is game, set and match to the globalists and their colleagues on the Left.
As for the current state of play on the centre Right. UKIP are holding a meeting on the 4th March in Winchester. Rebecca Jane, Deputy Leader of the UK Independence Party has been working hard over the last months attempting to “unite the right” engaging with the smaller right wing splinter parties. That ‘engagement’ does not include the Reform Party who are holding a Spring Rally in Derby on the 15th April. The Party claims it has over 700 candidates for the council elections in May.
This has really hit a nerve. The skivers charter is alive and well and it truly disgusts me how children are used and abused in this way. I understand some of the difficulties with confused children but this is “almost” all caused by deranged adults.
Looks like it’ll soon be necessary to put barbed wire fences round allotments the way things are going.
Stealing veggies and other stuff from allotments was already ‘a thing’ 25 years ago …
HA……..the peas have done a runner with beans have they?
Re gender identity… Enid Blyton is clearly to blame for this.
I wonder when the wokists will get round to rewriting her books. Or maybe they’ll be in favour of them!
‘George’ in Enid Blyton’s Famous Five books did not cause me or anyone else to want to change sex.
HA……you’re not still reading Enid Blyton are you, blimey? It could explain a few things though. No doubt at home you say to your other half ‘can I have lashings of ginger beer with my boiled turnips’ followed by I’ll have peaches and cream for dessert, can you serve it to me in my house boat on the river’……some people never grow up.
It seems that government is broken at all levels. WFH just provides an opportunity for skivers to have an easy life, courtesy of the taxpayers.
Jack…….not just broken, but smashed to smithereens. Can anyone of sound mind who is not completely round the twist or stone drunk state exactly what Sunak has achieved during his period of being prime minister so far. As far as I can ascertain the only thing he has managed to do is to switch on the Downing Street Christmas lights, and even then he was assisted by the First Lady of Ukraine. The sooner he is out of office, the better it will be for all concerned.
