This night’s desks in the news rooms of our MSM
There is a clear division this morning between ‘what the papers say’, i.e. publish in print, and what they feed to ‘Generation Smartphone’ in their online editions. First, look at the front pages being sold this morning (link): they’re about ‘Sunak’s pledges’ and, of course, the NHS. Not one words about Prince H.
I dunno if Sunak really said ‘judge me on my pledges’, as The Express claims. One would have thought someone in his entourage might have told him that it’s easy to ‘pledge’ – Labour knows all about that! – but difficult to fulfil. I’d call it stupid, but what do I know … Only the DT in their print edition leads with an article about Starmer ‘promising’ that Labour is no longer the ‘party of big spending’. Yeah right.
However, The Guardian leads with a report about ‘PPE not safe for the NHS’. I wrote ‘however’ because literally overnight their lead online became:
“Prince Harry details physical attack by brother William in new book – Exclusive: Harry writes in new autobiography Spare that William ‘knocked me to the floor’ during confrontation in London in 2019” (link)
This ‘breaking’ news was published at 00.03am. Like a herd of Gadarene swine, the Westminster press followed, copying from that ‘exclusive’ and turning it into their top story. Starmer, Sunak, the NHS? Forget it. This is far more important! It’s happening now! There was royal blood on the floor, literally! Read all about it, faithfully copied from the Guardian!
As we all know, yon ‘spare’ prince has been on a whinge-feast about his hard life, mostly on Netflix for which he and his wife earned a cool $100m, allegedly. We also were well informed about ‘his’ book, ghostwritten, which was meant to’ve been published in Autumn 2022, before this Aitch & Em reality show was meant to be broadcast. However, the death of his grandmother, the Queen, allegedly made him scramble to change the publication dates, both for yon TV series and the book. Netflix and the publishers were having none of it, only the publication date for the book was moved to this year.
And so, despite the publisher’s ‘precautions as for the last Harry Potter book’, the manuscript was leaked, somehow, to the New York reporter of the grauniad who published his piece on his website according to the DM (link). Just like New York, the interwebz never sleeps and while the printing presses could no longer be stopped, online everything can be turned into ‘breaking news’ and given the top spot.
For the record, here are the ludicrous headlines in our beloved broadsheets, the DT being the last out of the starting blocks, their ‘Washington editor’ only posting her stuff at 3.36am today:
“’You attacked me’: Prince Harry recounts physical altercation with Prince William in new memoir – The Duke of Sussex in an extract says he was visibly injured from the row at his London home in 2019, amid tension around Meghan Markle” (paywalled link)
Crikey. The Times’ reporter, posting from Los Angeles, got his piece in at 2.05am, under this headline: “William physically attacked me in kitchen, claims Harry” (link, paywalled) but the non-paywalled DM beat them all, publishing at 00.40am, with an update at 02.10am where you can peruse the headlines at your leisure, if you must (link). Phew.
I’ll not go into the details which you can read online in the non-paywalled reports.I’ll simply underline the extraordinary fact that the Westminster MSM dropped everything to jump on that smelly bandwagon started by the Guardian.
I will however mention the further stuff in the DM which squeezed the last drop of blood from that leak, publishing ‘report’ after ‘breaking: report’. We learn for example that poor old Aitch phoned his therapist immediately after ‘Teh Beating – not his wife (link). This begs the question: why he didn’t phone yon therapist when she was ‘suicidal’, with nobody doing anything to help her? Something isn’t adding up here.
The nastiest piece from this thing is that Prince H. “[…] claims William and Kate TOLD him to wear Nazi uniform – and is angry they escaped blame for the scandal in 2005” (link). Oh dear. So poor old Aitch ‘only’ did as they told him, is it? Did they rent that uniform for him and forced him to wear it? Recollections, as we know, may vary – however, one side is prevented from speaking out on their own behalf.
I’ve gone on at length about this because this poisonous elaborate was meant to be published in the autumn, the Jubilee Year of the Queen, and right before the fantasy series ‘The Crown’, while The Queen was still alive. No thought was spared for her by her allegedly ‘favourite’ grandson.
Moreover, the fact that this was leaked to the lefty grauniad which is not precisely a bastion of our constitutional monarchy points to the increasing attempts of certain ‘powers’ to dissolve the monarchy and thus our country’s system of governance.
Let’s also keep in mind that this princely wail aims to paint the heir as an irrational bully who should better never follow his father. You know where this is going when The Times’ leading columnist, David Aaronovich, penned a lovely (not!) piece under the headline “The problem with Prince Harry? He’s not wrong”, where we read (my emphasis):
“You know what the problem with Prince Harry is? It isn’t that he’s a traitor to his relatives, that his mind has been poisoned by the post-Marxist philosophers of wokeism or even that he’s under the manicured thumb of a royal-family destroying American Maleficent (see also “Duke of Windsor”). The problem with Harry, as I will try to explain, is that he’s basically right. And that is unforgivable. This isn’t a popular view. By the time ‘Spare’ hits the shelves and the review pages next week, I don’t anticipate being joined by legions of other 50-plus Harry-defenders.” (link, paywalled)
Aaronovitch is clearly in love with his own eloquence and erudition. In his defence I’ll mention that this … thing was published yesterday at 5pm, before the book-leak hit the ‘news’. It is nasty because Mr A manages to bring Bexit, Trump and Hilary Clinton into this piece, which, together with his slur about ‘50+ Harry defenders’ insinuates that our country would be better off without all those Brexit~ and Harry~loving oldies, without the monarchy, but ought to follow Prince H. onto the therapy couch and to ‘break lose’.
This should come as no surprise because ‘breaking loose’ of history, traditions and institutions is the aim of the Common Purpose Left running this country. Equally unsurprising is that Mr A seems to think the ‘oldies’ love Aitch. As Westminster stalwart how could he possibly be in touch with the plebs outside von charmed circle!
By all accounts it’s the generations ‘under 50’ which are more enamoured of him and his wife, indoctrinated in lefty thoughts from cradle to the present, brainwashed by TV ‘series’ which are Hollywood fabrications and, for the more ‘intellectual’, by such leading articles in the formerly posh Times.
Starmer and Sunak and their PR teams must be mightily peed off by this ‘bombshell’ of ‘news’. It has deprived them of their platform of preaching to us about what all they’ll do for us. They still think we’ll believe a word they say. So perhaps, in a strange way, they should thank their lucky stars that ‘Teh Nation’, according to the Westminster MSM, is talking about something else today, allegedly.
That’s all I have for today, Aren’t we all lucky to have no other problems!
Harry………..what a dork he is. His brother and sister-in-law allegedly tells him to wear a WW2 German uniform together with a Swastika armband to a function. Even if its true, he was the one who put the uniform on, so the blame lies with him. It occurs to me that he must be thick if he thought it wouldn’t go un-noticed. What’s holding King Charles 111 back from stripping him and his wife of their titles as he is no longer a working member of the Royal Family, and is being hyper critical of things that should be kept within a family and not made public knowledge. Harry will still be his son, so what does it matter if he has no title.
I think its because, whilst Harry Doormat can be stripped of the Sussex title he is still a prince, making the narcissist a – gawd help us- a princess!
My commiserations if you live in Sussex.
I have good news! The NHS has loads of cash – it’s just going elsewhere, not to the nurses and ambulance drivers. This just came in: “Trusts told to appoint board director with responsibility for reducing racism” – you couldn’t make it up …
I rarely swore but these last few years have released a tsunami of profanities. FFS.
Could Charles111 ‘disinherit’ the ‘spare’? Harry is really not needed is he. Is there any precedent? Nrearest I can think of is when it was claimed James11 son had been smuggled in, in a bedpan! That put England firmly back on the rails as a Protestant, Christian,, country with no ties to Catholic France. (Or any republics in Europe for that matter.) Just wondering. Wouldn’t it increase the value of the Royal Family as a tourist attraction as well.
Off topic. Since everyone is tired of Royals and Rishi can recommend “ Stonehouse “ the 3 part ITV presentation which has been very entertaining.
I know how ends. I saw the original in the 70s.
PoS- OK but amongst the political dwarves, who will take the heroine part of Madam Thatcher?
Despite the fan club, cant see a nigerian / american of south african parents doing any good.
Jake…….I thought you said some time ago that you didn’t have a TV Licence, so how is it that you’re watching that? You going to tell me you watched it through the front window of your neighbours house no doubt
Colin. You are correct I haven’t paid a licence fee for going on 13 years and have no intention of ever doing so again. The £160 I save from not doing so is donated to centre Right challenger parties and this year to TCW and Daily Sceptic. Delicious! Denying the fetid BBC of the cash and giving it good causes. But never have I said I do not possess nor watch a TV whilst it is being broadcast live!
Jake 6.26pm yesterday. How do you get away with it? TV licensing are still hounding ‘the occupier’ who actually does have a TVset, never switched on. Just this morning I received a letter telling me they have been authorised to visit this my road. They will call morning or evening and of course TV must not be accessed from any device at this address. Presumably they still can not enter without a search warrant ! Idiots could easily obtain my name from the electoral roll. Surely you get similar hounding.
Pauline…I think you will find that they do have a power of entry, but would probably not choose to use it. If a householder declines to let them gain access to check whether there is a device capable of receiving a signal, they will obtain the assistance of police to do this. A couple of times I had to assist them when I was in the police, when there was a course of conduct of failing to allow them to carry out their work. It is best to do this properly and contact the TV Licensing Authority direct at Darlington as I did by telephone 3 years ago. I answered all their questions truthfully and stated to them that were quite welcome to come to my home address and see for themselves that I had no TV. I was advised that I would be required to renew the declaration that I did not require a TV licence in two years time, and this happened last September (2022). Obviously one can access TV programmes via a computer and in order to do so you have to register on a BBC site and also ITV Hub which registers at Darlington, and if one has done that having told them you do not have a TV Licence, it is game on as far as they are concerned and will hound you regularly with demands to pay the licence fee and if you don’t eventually they will take you to court for non payment. I have never signed onto either the BBC or ITV Hubs so don’t get any letters from them. At the end of the day you can’t buck the system, and if you do you can hardly complain.
Well it looks like when Invisi-Rishi finally decides to pop his head out to deliver his blah, blah -smile, blah, blah – smile, blah, blah -smile, 5 pledges nobody is interested.
JB- I saw reports of what the Oligard Ritchie said – ”you…are…eleven…stone…six…and…a…half…pounds”.
Reform Party has the policies the processes and Manifesto. But he is just one bloke who appears a bit too wet and upper crust and without clout or numbers. He’ll need either less self esteem, or more money, or another rougher and active leader. Put Colin on the election list, or spread the power a lot, ’cause every policy requires no nonsense
Back to bed with lurgey.
Take care – this year’s lurgy is no fun and lasts a long time … trust me, I’m still ‘there’ …
Well don’t get tempted to accept any of ‘big pharmas’ latest offerings – pills or jabs. Just been reading about the Tamiflu conspiracy and all the harm it did.
That’s not gonna happen! I stick with my herbal tinctures: nettle leaf for coughs, makes any incipient bronchitis just slink away; elderberry for general immune support and good old rosehip for ‘moar vitamin C’. No Big Pharma or GPs with jabs are needed.
TG- have you got long lurgy, short lurgy, spanish lurgy, tibetan himalayan lurgy, one of the waterbourne lurgies – such as westmoreland, niagran, black sea or is it one the the really nasty ones?
There are about two dozen different jabs for them. All cause horrendous side effects, so much so such that you will forget about the lurg. (Works for big farmer, what’s not to like?).
Viv….what you need is a daily glass of Rose Hip Syrup which is very high in vitamin C, but where you would get it these days, goodness knows. Apparently during the Second World War the government encouraged country folk to go out and pick as many rosehips as they could from hedgerows, and people were paid something like 2d for a pound’s weight of them, there you have it…
There are recipes online on how to make such syrup, although getting rosehips now is a bit too late. Mind you – because of the amount of sugar involved – ’tis inevitable when one makes a syrup – I prefer the tincture which one can also get online.
Nettle leaf tincture? As in nettles steeped in alcohol? I often drink nettle tea, although an infusion of freshly picked leaves is much better, really fragrant and, in Spring, it’s nettle and wild garlic soup time – we have acres of wild garlic on our little patch of the North Downs.
Vit D (all year round, not just winter, since covid) Manuka honey and, for the first time in nearly 3 years, I bought some echinacea in Abergavenny in December, as so many folk down there seemed to have had a cold that left a lingering cough.
Yes, fresh nettle leaves steeped in alcohol and then decanted. Not that i make this myself, you understand, although I did try mu hands at nettle soup once – rathe crunchy, thanks to the silica.
I prefer the tincture(s) rather than tea, and while Manuka honey is great, I’ve gone off it. An infallible remedy for harsh, persistent cough is ginger root. There’s tea, but it must be without any other ingredients, just plain ginger. Alternatively, ginger root tincture. It really works. I’m allergic to echinacea which used to be my ‘go-to remedy’ of choice, so I’m relying on the ‘homely’ stuff like rosehips and elderberry. ‘Tis too late now, but elderberry syrup is really easy to make (beware the eagworms when collecting and preparing the berries!) and works really well. Oh btw, apparently there’s also some Quercetin in nettle leaves …
And let’s not forget good old aspirin! Mind you, if your really want to go down the ‘only plants’ road, there’s also a White Willow Bark tincture available …m sticking with the tablets in this case.
Sorry to hear that Viv. If you’re not vegetarian my home made chicken soup cures just about anything if you would like a very simple recipe.
Thanks, Lisa! Sadly, I’ve gone totally off chicken in any form and am not even keen on eggs – but a vegetarian I am not! Still cooking for myself ends up semi-vegetarian involving different beans, peas and lentils. And tomatoes, lots of them. Living alone means I can please myself: shovel on the hot paprika and herbs and don’t forget to add yoghurt or creme fraiche. No soup should go to table without that!
Viv My gran used to gather young tender nettles and serve them as a vegetable. She would gently sweat some onions, add a little flour and milk to make a white sauce and set aside. Separately she would cook the nettles as spinach. Then when well drained they were added to the white sauce, seasoned and served. Delicious and very nutritious!
That sounds like the recipe I followed when making nettle soup, with mashed potatoes added to the mil and onions, nettles cooked as you described and then plonked in. Still, even the younger nettle leaves were crunchy. It was tasty though.
Tice is a very, very wealthy man indeed. Look him up on Wiki. He has been a Conservative Party member and donor in the past. For me it is not so much about his election appeal it is about trust.
The Reform Party appears to be the personal fiefdom of Tice & Farage. UKIP is far more transparent and accountable to its members whatever TGS thinks.
Both Farage & Tice are Tories to the top of their boots with the key question being – are they prepared to deliver the killer blow to the Tories or will they march their candidates back down the hill once more if a Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph campaign gets under way at election time to accuse them of letting Labour take power.
Despite my anxieties I have joined the party for their email notifications (not membership) and I watch their progress with interest despite my membership of other centre Right challengers. With luck I will have a centre Right party to vote for in 2024.
Jake 1.28pm. I also get their emails. If I remember correctly, that Ukip leaderership contest when Farage apparently recommended the disastrous Henry Bolton, I actually voted for David Kurten. Also get Heritage Party emails. Being a member of Ukip doesn’t force me to vote for Ukip in 2024. Like you, I hope to vote for a centre right party when the time comes.
PB- I’ll vote for any party that will shut the doors, sew up the govmt pockets, and give me my Country back.
The polit parties have moved so far left, the Thatcher conservs would be called the Atilla Party nowerdays.
I wonder who will run the country next. We are being nudged, pushed, towards the common market again, and under their yourow army thumb speaking Jerman.
But alternatively we may find all of ourselves under the Putin Party the way things are going for the toothless tigers on both sides of the Atlantic. (80 yr old HoUSe speaker anyone?).
TG Spokes……….thanks for the compliment, but there is no chance whatsoever that I would ever become a member of Reform UK until they put in place a competent leader, and even less chance of me becoming one of their candidates. Been there and got the tee shirt. There is no way I am going to put myself in that position again of standing behind a street stall and going on the doorstep for a party that has virtually no policies. It was an embarrassment first time round thank you very much!!!
Perhaps its time that we consigned Royalty to being a simple tourist attraction. They certainly do nothing for the average native Brit yet cost we taxpayers money; e.g. not a whimper when we were joined to the EU.
Long past time Jack. That Queen should have been called out for treason when she signed the European Communities Act in 73.
Jake Bennett @ 11.55am. Easy to say that now all ‘records’ are lost. Surely it is more important to think of Gerrard Battens suggested remedy. Simply repeal the Act.
Pauline…….that is what should have been done immediately after the result of the 2016 EU referendum was declared, rather than going down the route of invoking Article 15. As Nigel Farage stated at the time it was a red herring designed to cause all sorts of problems which it ended up doing. The whole thing like everything else that emanates from the House of Commons, House of Lords and politicians in general, a lack of political conviction and protecting vested interests.
Hooray Colin @4.00pm 5/01. We Agree !! Though I believe it was Article 50 that was invoked. Quick look and article 15 has little to do with membership of the EU.
It could be argued that joining a trading bloc, which is how that Act was presented, was not treason.
However, it may be apocryphal, but I heard at some point, that when presented with the Lisbon Treaty (that created the ‘country of Europe’ in 2009), the Queen quite extraordinarily delayed signature and asked the government whether they were sure about this. Her way of saying this is bloody wrong, mate! Jack Straw, I think, assured her that the snake oil was all good, Ma’am. That was the moment of treason from the Labour government; they overthrew the Crown. Other than creating a constitutional storm in those febrile times under Labour and possibly imperil the monarchy, she had no choice but to herself commit treason and subjugate the Crown to a foreign power.
If anyone can verify this I would be pleased the hear.
‘The European Communities Act 1972 was the piece of legislation that brought the UK into the Europe Union: it gives EU law supremacy over UK national law.’
That doesn’t sound like joining a trading bloc to me. It takes a bit of a stretch of the imagination to accept that Ted Heath told the Queen ‘ Nothing much here Maam, just a teensy, weensy trading bloc agreement maam – and how are the corgis’ today?’
Did John Major suggest the Maastricht Treaty was just about a little more cooperation with the EU when everyone knew exactly what was in the Treaty including making the Queen a citizen of the EU!
She knew exactly what she was signing and whatever excuses are made she broke her Coronation Oath even if she was told to sign. Better to have a constitutional crisis than break your Coronation Oath to your subjects.
https://www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/explainers/european-communities-act-1972
Leave the poor woman alone Jake. She is dead so can’t speak for herself. On the other hand villify Heath as much as you like! Do I have to be consistent? (l.o.l.)
Pauline………..you’re right it was Article 50 not 15. Silly me….
I agree Jake.
Verbal diarrhoea doesn’t begin to describe what passes for news these days, present company excepted of course.
A philosopher once said “The truth is still the truth even if nobody believes it and a lie is still a lie even if everyone believes it”.
Yeah, but who buys newspapers these days? There was a time when you went out in the morning that business people and those making their way to the local railway station would be in possession of a briefcase, rolled umbrella, a bowler hat maybe and a newspaper under their arm. I think newspapers have gone the same way as the bowler hat, in that they have become surplus to requirements, and rather than reading the garbage on the front pages of the Times, the latest glamorous girl on page 3 of the Sun, doing the crossword on the back page of the Daily Telegraph or reading the latest Adventures of Rupert Bear in the Daily Express, they are instead looking at films on tablets, playing games on their Smartphones or listening to drum and bass on their headphones. Gone are the days when the news stands would be devoid of newspapers by 4.30 pm, as now those stands are well stocked even at closing time. So who reads them, and how do the owners of those newspapers make a profit these days?
And a Katie Hopkins p*ss take of Sunak’s latest promises.
“Britain is dying. But Invisi-Rishi is coming to the rescue. With maths. … FFS”
A very disturbing video by Katie Hopkins.
“WATCH ..Two words about to disappear from our language. ‘D*ed Suddenly’”
I think Katie Hopkins hits the nail on the head with her observations and I do follow her, one of the few like Neil McCoy -Ward and Jeff Taylor on YouTube.
Is Katie Hopkins still involved in UKIP? At one time she might have been considered bad news for them, but like everything else in this world things change. Quite a lot of what she says now is very relevant to what is politically going on around us. So it begs the question, wouldn’t she make an infinitely better job of being leader of that party if she is still involved than the current leader. She certainly is a natural orator and is able to get a point across in a very succinct way.
She was a guest speaker once but don’t think she is involved right now.
My heart bleeds for Harry, I wish my life was that hard, I just don’t know how he copes. As for Sunak and Starmer, I just don’t listen the the worthless verbal garbage that comes out of politicians mouths anymore. Since I made this decision, it has saved me massive amounts of time, after all why waste time listening to something that you know to be BS, lies, deceit and probably worse, why allow this verbal pollution into your brain.
Just ignore politician’s, you’ll be a lot happier and hopefully one day they’ll give up and go away or if we’re really lucky, Putin will blow them all to smithereens.
