It’s winter, innit like …

 

 

Looking at this morning’s front pages printed by the MSM, it’s difficult to believe that our MSM are not singing from the same hymn sheet provided by a Ministry of Propaganda (link): we have no other problem than a rogue rapist cop who ought to have been caught much sooner. Indeed so, but then again, that rogue officer didn’t commit his crimes on social media, did he, so how could the police know! After all, ‘hate crime’ investigations are more important than investigating complaints by the public …

Meanwhile, only The Times has the Teachers’ Strike both on their printed and online frontpage (link, at the time of writing). Has the Nation become so used to strikes that we’re expected to taking this one in our stride as well? Perhaps the lockdown years and the ongoing WFH experience has made us aware that we can survive such strikes without too much disruption?

There are two other issues though which must be of some importance because the DT (paywalled link) and The Times (link, paywalled) report this on their front pages. One is that Sunak has blocked the Sturgeon’s Gender Identification Bill which would permit anyone to declare their gender to be whatever they want. The Times is concise:

“Rishi Sunak’s government has blocked Scottish gender recognition reforms, saying that they risked “fraudulent or bad-faith applications” from people seeking to access single-sex spaces. Nicola Sturgeon described the move as an attack on Scottish democracy after ministers prevented royal assent for a law made in Edinburgh for the first time since devolution in 1998. Alister Jack, the Scotland secretary, said he was concerned about “the operation of single-sex clubs, associations and schools, protections such as equal pay, and chilling effects on single-sex spaces”, adding that the reforms would have a “significant impact” on UK-wide equalities law.” (link, paywalled)

The Sturgeon clearly didn’t grasp the issue. The DM reported her tweet, that: “the move is a ‘full-frontal attack on our democratically elected Scottish Parliament and its [sic!]ability to make it’s [sic!] own decisions on devolved matters’.” (link). Blimey. It’s actually amazing that Sunak has acted in this way because the other issue reported in the DT and The Times is about an ‘event’ in the Home Office. Those civil serpents were given lunchtime talks about ‘gender issues’:

“​​Home Office staff have been told to be careful about pronouns when addressing colleagues and to avoid using words such as “mate” and “homosexuality”. Staff at the department’s homeland security group, the unit responsible for tackling terrorism, were given a lunchtime presentation advising them on how to address people’s gender identities.” (link, paywalled)

Definitely a most pressing issue! Why the anti-terrorist unit must be taught to be careful about gendering rather than about ‘psychiatric problems’ – we remember, do we not, that all terrorists from a certain group always have psychiatric problems – that is beyond me. There’s more, showing that this wasn’t an on-off ‘event’. The DT, always eager to ‘reveal’, writes (my emphasis0:

“[…] the Home Office’s LGBT network held five events during working hours in as many months last year. The lectures included a 90-minute virtual session on The Queer Dead: Reconnecting with LGBT+ People from Long Ago, as well as an hour-long Power in Pride Trans Panel and a seminar on Challenging Assumptions of Masculinity to mark International Men’s Day. The other two events were called Power in Pride: Finally Me; and Imposter Syndrome, Social Mobility, and the Power of Positive Thinking. The former event lasted for an hour and a half, with the latter taking up a further hour of staff time for attendees.” (paywalled link)

What I’d like to know is if these lectures were also done via Zoom so that all those WFH civils serpents could ‘learn’. And the we read who actually did the investigative work (my emphasis):

“In its response to the TaxPayers’ Alliance, which uncovered the events, the Home Office said the events helped civil servants “to be their best selves at work, reducing sick leave and improving performance”. A Home Office spokesman said: “The Home Office is committed to supporting diversity and inclusion within the department. This document was used as part of an internal event in the Home Office, and is not official departmental or government guidance.” (paywalled link)

Note the weasel words used by the Home Office! I only want to know when this ‘document’ will become ‘official guidance’ because Whitehall surely must be concerned not just for their own employees but for all of us, right? Don’t ask if this is how they treat the dinghy drivers, don’t ask if the time wasted on this ‘concern’ could not have been spent more usefully in actually preventing them from coming here!

And so, as the Nation faces a ‘cold snap’ of four days, with temperatures below 0ºC and perhaps even snow and ice in certain, more mountainous regions, pensioners are ‘advised’ by our fabulous NHS, in the form of the UK Health Security Agency, to heat their homes to 18ºC because cold makes health problems worse (link, paywalled)! That’s clearly ageist, innit like, because babies and infants also need warm homes, don’t they. Still, it’s nice that the NHS is so caring to tell pensioners what to do. 

Also, do you remember Starmer’s beautiful proposal of changing the current set-up of GP’s surgeries, turning them from private enterprises into NHS employees? Well, what a surprise: “Labour’s plan to nationalise GPs would cost up to £15 billion upfront and add £1.7 billion a year to the NHS wage bill, according to government analysis.” (link, paywalled). Oh dear. Never mind – we’re all happy to pay even more taxes to ‘save and change’ the Sacred Cow, aren’t we!

That’s allI I have for today. I wonder if it isn’t time for another strike, this time by us taxpayers. Why should we pay for ever more government waste! Meanwhile, save the Sacred Cow by keeping the heating on high. Have a a good day.
