The basis of this article is a dig at the European Union and nothing else. I have recently purchased a book entitled “Japan’s Radio War on Australia 1941 – 1945”. Emperor Hiroihito’s “Declaration of War” speech is written in the book. With the European Union’s present attitude to the trade talks and Michael Barnier’s summation of the talks I thought that Emperor Hiroihito’s speech could be modified to suit the present stance of the EU regarding the UK/EU trade talks.
I could have used Empire instead of Union. With the EU’s attitude in general I thought that Empire would better reflect the arrogance of the EU leadership.
Emperor Hiroihito’s speech is shown and also my conversion to an EU President’s fictitious declaration of Economic War.
No dishonour to Emperor Hiroihito and the Japanese people is intended nor I am I passing comment on Japan’s part in the Second World War.
Emperor Hiroihito of Japan made the following proclamation on 8th December 1941.
We, by the grace of Heaven, Emperor of Japan, seated on the Throne of a line unbroken for ages eternal, enjoin upon ye, Our loyal and brave subjects:
We hereby declare war on the United States of America and Great Britain.
Men and officers of Our army and navy shall do their utmost in prosecuting the war, Our public servants of various departments shall perform faithfully and diligently their appointed tasks, and all other subjects of Ours shall pursue their respective duties: the entire nation, with a united will, shall mobilize its total so that nothing shall miscarry in the attainment of Our war aims.
To ensure the stability of East Asia and to contribute to world peace is the far-sighted policy which was formulated by Our Great Illustrious Imperial Grandsire and our Great Imperial Sire succeeding Him, and which We lay constantly to heart.
More than four years have passed since China, failing to comprehend the true intentions of Our Empire and recklessly courting trouble, disturbed the peace of East Asia and compelled Our Empire to take up arms. Although there has been re-established the National government of China, with which Japan, has effected neighbourly intercourse and co-operation, the regime which has survived at Chungking, relying upon American and British protection, still continues its fratricidal opposition.
Eager for the realization of their inordinate ambition to dominate the Orient, both American and Britain, giving support to the Chunking regime , having aggravated the the disturbances in East Asia. Moreover, these two Powers, inducing other countries to follow suit, increased military preparations on all sides of Our Empire to challenge us. They have obstructed by every means our peaceful commerce, and finally resorted to direct severance of economic , menacing gravely the existence of Our Empire.
Patiently have We waited and long have We endured, in the hope that Our government might retrieve the situation in peace. But Our adversaries, showing not thhe least spirit of conciliation, have unduly delayed a settlement; and in the meantime they have intensified the economic and military pressure to compel thereby Our Empire to submission.
This trend of affairs would, if left unchecked, not only nulify Our Empire’s efforts of many years for the sake of the stabilisation of East Asia, but also endanger the very existence of Our nation. The situation being such as it is, Our Empire for its existence and self-defence has no other recourse but to appeal to arms and to crush every obstacle in its path.
The hallowed spirits of Our Imperial Ancestors guarding Us from above, We rely upon the loyalty and courage of Our subjects in Our confident expectation that the task bequeathed by Our forefathers will be carried forward and that the sources od evil will be speedily eradicated and enduring peace immutably established in Eas Asia, preserving thereby the glory of Our Empire.
Dedication.
The following is dedicated to the European Union leaders and negotiator.
We, by the grace of Heaven, President of the European Union, seated on the Throne of a line hope to be unbroken for future ages eternal, enjoin upon ye, Our loyal and brave subjects:
We hereby declare economic war on the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland,
Men, women and officers of Our Commission and leaders of the 27 shall do their utmost in prosecuting the economic war, Our public servants of various Empire departments, and of the 27, shall perform faithfully and diligently their appointed tasks, and all other subjects of Ours shall pursue their respective duties: the entire Empire, with a united will, shall mobilize its total energies so that nothing shall miscarry in the attainment of Our economic war aims.
To ensure the stability of the European Union Empire and to contribute to world peace is the far-sighted policy which was formulated by Our Great Illustrious Imperial Visionary Forefathers and our Great Imperial Presidents succeeding Him/Her, and whom We lay constantly to heart.
More than four years have passed since the United Kingdom, failing to comprehend the true intentions of Our Empire and recklessly courting trouble, disturbs the peace of the Empire and compelled Our Empire to take up economic arms. Although there has been re-established the government of the UK, with which the Empire, has effected neighbourly intercourse and co-operation, the regime which is in London, still continues its fratricidal opposition.
Eager for the realization of their inordinate ambition to dominate the Union, the United Kingdom, has aggravated the the disturbances in Empire. Moreover, this power, inducing other countries to follow suit, increased economic preparations on all sides of Our Empire to challenge us. The UK has obstructed by every means our peaceful commerce, and finally resorted to direct severance of economic , menacing gravely the existence of Our Empire.
Patiently have We waited and long have We endured, in the hope that Our commission might retrieve the situation in peace. But Our adversaries, showing not the least spirit of conciliation, have unduly delayed a settlement; and in the meantime they have intensified the economic pressure to compel thereby Our Empire to submission.
This trend of affairs would, if left unchecked, not only nullify Our Empire’s efforts of many years for the sake of the stabilisation of Europe, but also endanger the very existence of Our Empire. The situation being such as it is, Our Empire for its existence and self-defence has no other recourse but to appeal to economic warfare and to crush every obstacle in its path.
The hallowed spirits of Our Imperial Visionaries guarding Us from above, We rely upon the loyalty and courage of Our subjects in Our confident expectation that the task bequeathed by Our forefathers will be carried forward and that the sources od evil will be speedily eradicated and enduring peace immutably established in Europe, preserving thereby the glory of Our Empire.
POLITICAL CORRECTNESS STATEMENT
The adaptation is based entirely on the titles, not the home countries or personalities of the holders of office within the European Union hierarchy.
It has long been my belief that the EU WILL wage an economic war against us. I can imagine them making NOT trading with us a condition of any new trade deals they negotiate with other countries. (I wouldn’t want any Remainers to think I’m accusing the EU of ‘punishing’ us for leaving as we all know the EU is such a reasonable organisation that nothing would be further from its mind……)
Excellent David Turgoose. Is that really how Emperor Hirohito saw things? One can ALMOST understand him and also what followed. I believe the victors allowed him not only to live out his natural life but to remain ‘in office’.
I wonder what we would have done with Hitler if he had not taken the coward’s way out.
And then there was the USSR. Hmm . . . .
There must be a lesson there somewhere. Do we think perhaps it is something like – let each Nation State look after itself until it builds an Empire and wants to rule an ever expanding area.
Pauline, Emperor Hirohito was a figure head Emperor and like our present Queen, he had no effective power unlike Hitler who had absolute power. If you study the history of the Japanese state there is a part lesson to learn from what the Emperor said, After the wars with Germany and Japan ended there was, unlike at the end of the First World War, the Allies aided the recovery of the two nations. The Japanese savagery , treatment of military prisoners and treatment of the citizens of the countries it occupied were absolutely unacceptable to the Allis. These occupied countries included China, Korea and Manchuria. The USSR’s continued occupation of some of the Japanese home islands is, to me, not acceptable.
The United Nations was formed at the end of WW2 by the victoriious powers and that is a part of the reason that the UK has a seat on the Security Council of the UN. The EU would like to take the UK’s and France’s seats on the UN Security Council.
In Europe the USA’s Marshall plan aided the recovery of the west European countries, to the detriment of the UK, and led to the formation of the EEC and hence the EU.
If my memory is correct the BBC motto is was “Nation shall speak peace to nation”. In the UK the BBC seems to have forgotten this memo which should be “Citizen should speak peace to Citizen”. Between engineering and politics I prefer engineering, at least engineering is based on facts not opinions.
Yes David I agree with your analysis of last century history. There was one parallel between Nazism and Japanese savagery I believe – they both considered themselves ‘The Master Race’ or at least a ‘Superior Race’.
The BBC has forgotten a hell of a lot, like why it was set up in the first place. Beside the point, really, as there is no place for a compulsory tax on us, to watch channels that fund themselves.
I repeat, your post was excellent.
Electric cars because global warming! Beware OPINION will overide engineering!
David I only partially agree with your assessment of the allies post war treatment of Japan.
I watched a program last night dealing with Japanese war factories.
Yes the allies did cold shoulder Japan until North Korea invaded South Korea 25th June 1950, apparently that was when the rebirth of Japanese industry began, particularly factories like Mitsubishi and the modern Japanese industrial miracle was fostered by Uncle Sam
( as an aside I would mention that I was completely clueless about much of the war against the Japs in the Far East, nor how they armed themselves, developed super planes “the Zeros”. I also learned the army was the state and I guess as you say that is why the Emperor was in effect a bystander. I think the program was “Yesterday “, but I don’t know if they do catch-up)
An Unpolitical Statement!
Sounds very like Verhofstad to me!
As usual they are thick and cannot see they will never win, I have been boycotting eu goods and produce since 2016 and it is an eye opener, however well they hide the origin it is satisfying to catch them.
The main lesson was that I could always get an alternative which in many cases was better than the eu item.
I’m watching eagerly to see who is next to leave. I think its evens between the Netherlands and Italy
Hilarious……..but unfortunately too close to the truth.
My approach to the EU Empire?
Jaw jaw is better than War, war. However……if it is to be a ‘war of attrition’……….then we are girding our loins and will defend our Island and meet your aggression with equal aggression.
Let battle commence. And we will advise our people in the words of The Marquis of Queensbury ..” Defend yourselves AT ALL TIMES”.
Hello Pauline
Thank you for your kind comment.
Electric cars have batteries that require recharging. Where do you place charging points in areas where there is no off road parking. On narrow pavements charging points can make the pavements unusable. Charging points in car parks will reduce the number of parking bays. I suspect that the present electricity supply network will require more substations and cables to maintain the statuary supply voltage..
