Ed: Earlier this year we published the letter our reader Frederica sent to her MP (here). She received an answer, dated 21/1/21, which is government propaganda at its finest. First, the abbreviated letter from the MP – we’ve omitted the lengthy middle part:
“Thank you for your email. I am very aware of the negative impact that lockdowns have on people and businesses, but the alternatives to these measures to control Covid would be not only many more thousands of people dying from the virus, but also deaths from other illnesses that could not be treated in overwhelmed hospitals, and the prospect of even more of our economy grinding to a halt with so many people sick or in fear of sickness. […] People write to me every day with problems they are having with their businesses and mental wellbeing. I am not supporting these restrictions lightly and I am too well aware of their costs. The government has no choice but to take the action that it is taking to protect people. Once enough people are vaccinated I do hope we will be able to start lifting restrictions so life can start to return to normal. Please contact me again if there is anything else I can do for you.”
Here is Frederica’s reply, sent on 2nd February 2021:
Thank you for your e-mail dated 21/1/21. I have read it carefully. I note the item regarding NHS statistics. Statistics can be ‘cut’ to illustrate the required result! Statistics also depend upon the timing of their issue and dissemination! So the “fear and force” factor continues. It reinforces the belief – now held by many – that government will never admit fault and will stand by its dogma to the bitter end.
Fear has become the over-riding factor. Fuelled by government and “experts” to maintain totalitarian grip. “Experts” whose academic and moral probity has been called into question because their sensationalist “modelled” predictions covering previous crises have often proved to be wildly inaccurate!
Keeping the ‘fear factor’ at peak levels, ‘scientists’ repeatedly discover ‘new strains and mutants’. This morning (2/2/21) came the announcement that “the Kent Strain has mutated again to mimic the South African Variant. It has mutated to “escape immune response”! As though to imply that the mutant virus has some sort of ‘brain’ of its own and that the so-called ‘scientists’ are playing St George to the dragon of the virus!!! Thus the political ‘dictatorship’ uses this in order to maintain the state of ‘House Arrests’ for as long as ‘new mutant strains’ can be found!
“The vaccines may not be effective” they say. “Natural immunity will not protect people”! Natural immunity is ‘acquired’ through living! It is often true that the elderly have less natural immunity. However, most of them would prefer to end their lives having ‘lived’ rather than ’existed’! Vaccinations against known ‘diseases’ have been effective. Vaccination against ‘viruses’ has been known to be a ‘chancy’ process as viruses do mutate.
The ‘experts’ are no longer convincing the ‘thinking’ public. On every hand I read comments from those who have realised that the constant spin and hyperbole is designed to keep the population incarcerated and in fear of incurring the notice of the newly created Stasi Police ‘Force’!
The data relating to numbers of “COVID” cases and deaths is deserving of scrutiny. I read that 25% were through hospital acquired infection; some 30% resulted from the elderly being sent out of hospital and into care homes (without prior testing). The number of COVID ‘recorded’ deaths is being seriously questioned. It appears that, regardless of any other health implication, if a ‘positive’ COVID test can be applied, then that death records as a COVID death!!!
Hospitalisation seems to be very hazardous for the elderly. Because, not allowed visitors, there have been reported instances where families have found their relatives have been effectively ‘lost’ in the system and access to information has been stymied by poor communication processes. The current predilection for imposing (often without their knowledge or approval) of DNAR notices is a shocking trend. I have been reading personal reports that have been logged by concerned and angry relatives who have found they have been blocked by the ‘system’ from looking out for their elderly folk!
The government has been vociferous in its constant exhortations to “Save the NHS”. What for? The NHS no longer seems fit for purpose. It has become the “National COVID Service”. The ‘services’ that it provides are diminishing rapidly. Both hospitals and GP’s have closed their doors to the most basic of services. Surgery waiting rooms are empty! Services such as ear syringing and podiatry are mostly non-existent. It used to be a matter of routine to attend a nurse-led clinic to access such service. Now it is no longer available and patients (most likely to be the elderly) are obliged to pay £50 or more and wait a long time for an appointment as well!
Why is the 100,000 ‘milestone’ of deaths over a period of ten months deemed so ‘grim’, when in any one year around 600,000 people die for all reasons. Many of them, being elderly, succumb over the winter period to all the usual respiratory ailments (usually ‘flu and pneumonia) because of either their extreme age or fragility or they have other health constraints.
You mentioned the backlog of mortuary cases in Kent. I suggest that this backlog has been caused more particularly by the “COVID secure” requirements. Sixteen years ago my mother died in November. The death certificate was issued the following day but I had to wait over a week to obtain an appointment with the registrar and it was a further 14 days before she was interred. I call that a significant delay time from death to burial. It was not a year when the NHS was under any more ‘strain’ than usual! There was no suggestion that bodies were being held in makeshift mortuaries then because of pressure of numbers!
Many feel that government has become hostile to the people (and the elderly in particular) and have now turned from the MSM to other sources for information and debate:
“That a ‘fact’ or ‘view’ has come from an authority should never place it above debate and discussion, as all researchers know. Indeed, authorities can (and have historically) sometimes been wrong, ‘got at’ or otherwise become unreliable. ‘Official’ does not automatically equal ‘reliable’, valid or true.
- It is only through considering conflicting, knowledgeable and substantiated viewpoints from an objective, informed, unimpassioned perspective that we can hope to arrive at a worthwhile level of understanding. Without such discussion, statements like ‘following the science’ are not merely a nonsense, they’re misleading and dangerous.
- None of this would matter if, and this is the point, much of the mainstream media had not effectively positioned itself as an authority competent to judge the content, rather than engaging in investigating and reporting on the debates raging (and I do mean raging) among scientists over COVID-19.”
You cite “overwhelmed” hospitals. I contend that, if hospitals have been recently in danger of being “overwhelmed”, then it is through poor management rather than case numbers. Following the first wave of COVID and during March 2020 lockdown, there was ample illustration for management to deem, that action was needed to ready the NHS system to prevent any recurrence of infections compromising the ability of the NHS to cope. The Nightingale hospitals (installed at great expense and with such fanfare!) were never used and were stood down. Complacency rather than planning by management?
In this last “wave”, NHS staff are attesting (in ‘non-MSM’ arenas) that the hospitals are no more “overwhelmed” than they have been at this time of year than in any other ‘bad ‘flu year’. I add a link to an article by James Delingpole that appeared in “Conservative Woman” 28/1/21. I believe he reflects the situation very succinctly!
You mention the number of ‘excess deaths’ being recorded this year. I see reports that around 100 people per day have died during 2020 due to an unnaturally (government enforced lockdowns!) sedentary lifestyle, leading to cardio-vascular disease, diabetes and cancers. 100 per day over, say, 300 days (ten months) equates to 30,000 excess deaths. No-one can be sure how many more will die in the coming months/years through poor diet, lack of exercise and loss of hope or of losing their employment or businesses due to the government enforced ‘house arrest’!
The Federation of Small Businesses reports 250,000 businesses will collapse in 2021 unless there is support or relaxation of government restrictions. They say it would bring the total number that have closed to 470,000. So, what is the government plan? You say that vaccination of the population will bring about the opportunity to start lifting restrictions. As it has been stated that none of the vaccines can guarantee to prevent contracting COVID (and now the mutations!) and vaccination will need to be followed by a three week isolation period before the efficacy can be felt, it is hard to feel any degree of confidence in the programme!
The number of illegal immigrants still arriving in this country (many of them apparently testing COVID positive) is a scandal! The fact that they are allowed to wander freely in the community (presumably even they are allowed out to ‘exercise’!) is appalling! Yet there seems to be no will within government to resolve this unsatisfactory situation. Defending our borders does not seem to be such a priority as keeping the populace under house arrest!
As things stand, there is no sign of any political will either to relax lockdowns or, at any future time, repeal the hastily implemented laws that have denied a whole people the freedom to live and work normally. Government is ‘savouring’ the power that these totalitarian restrictions have brought them. Laws are made with minimal Parliamentary scrutiny and this week, ‘adjusted’ on the say-so of the Health Secretary! Government does not seem to be in any hurry to relinquish such power! The suspicion now is that there are plans to circumnavigate democracy and cancel the May elections yet again!!
We perceive a government that has wilfully pursued action indebting the country to many billions of £s (to be paid by taxation burdening the current and the next generations). I see the prospect of a shattered economy; devastation of small business; mass unemployment and a broken and health-compromised population. The concept of Marxist control seems to have taken hold. So I end with the following quotation:-
“Lenin was once asked what the main ethos of Communism was, he replied “control.” Control means control of the people. Control of you, control of me, control of everybody. So everything about the people must be politicised in order that they may be controlled by the dominant political ideology. And as such, nothing can be trusted for the simple reason that reality, factuality, decency, morality, reason and honesty are the antithesis of fanatical politics which believes in only one thing – control.”
And that is what is now perceived to be this Government’s intent! Prove us wrong!
Respectfully, Frederica
I am only half way through “Frederica’s reply” but it is shurely (sic) a call to arms! Cast off the Mask for STARTERS. Sadly not here (UK) tho!
I confess that I have nor yet read the reply but (am sorely tempted) having read Craig Murray’s blog of late me thinks I can jigsaw who the MP is. I know it’s a bit of a game but my first pitch is a MP in Cornwall. Good Game, Good Game (thanks Brucie).
Sorry J.Butties but no it’s not Cornwall. Sounds like they’re all out of the the same mould though doesn’t it? Good old Bruce! I remember his shows. Nothing comes close to it on the box these days. It’s all ‘edgy’ inanity and loud with it now!
That was an excellent response to the letter received Frederica but lets not get facts in the way of a good pandemic.
I also received a reply to a letter from my MP (below) which suitably passes the buck. A letter to the AM just produced a short reply that he would look into it!
……………………………………
Thank you for getting in touch with me to share your thoughts on the new variant of Covid-19 and the measures that have been put into place to help control the spread of the virus. I appreciate you sharing your views on this.
I have been publicly sceptical about a number of measures brought in by both UK and Welsh governments but I am afraid I am not one of those who argue that life can carry on largely unaffected while this virus is among us. Lockdowns are a very blunt tool but that does not mean that they do not work.
The recent rapid spread of the virus has been driven by the new variant and that is why the Prime Minister and First Minister in Wales simply had to act by re-introducing strict measures to control the virus. I am persuaded that there is no viable alternative plan for minimising the number of deaths and the action is necessary to protect our NHS and save potentially many thousands of lives. The restrictions are not part of a grand plan across the world to restrict citizens liberties, they are needed right now to prevent an unnecessary loss of life.
Of course, devolution has meant that each Government in the UK is responsible for its own policy in relation to the management of COVID-19 and I would urge you to raise your concerns surrounding decisions taken by the Welsh Government to your local member of the Senedd, (details given), who is best placed to raise your concerns directly with Welsh Government Ministers.
If you would like to discuss anything further, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Flipping heck Lisa! I think they all share the same letter template and just adjust a word here and there. Makes me mad! They are all so patronising! Why do they all thank us “for sharing our views” when they really couldn’t give a monkeys!!!! Viruses mutate….fact! If thy did not there would be no need to keep re-jigging the annual flu vaccine which they gamble on this year’s version being the one the mutating virus will manifest itself in! If lockdowns worked the ‘case numbers’ wouldn’t be so numerous. As for deaths….they will pin COVID on every corpse now if they can do it by stealth. After all most people wouldn’t query what the doctor put on the death certificate. We are all conditioned to think that the professional men know it all!!!!! Keep complaining! Don’t let them think they have convinced you. It just increases the size of their egos!!!
An excellent letter Frederica.. I have been a consistent opponent of lock downs and have spoken out against them on many occasions in the Welsh Parliament. I have quoted statistics from the ONS sowing that there is a huge manipulation of figures. In his reply to my last debate Vaughan Gethin accused me of being a Covid denier but did not question any of my figures, all refuting the UK and Welsh government figures. I and just afew others have spoken out against the lock downs. The three main parties , Plaid. Labour and the Conservatives have all supported them, and have never questioned either their efficacy or the statistics behind them. I truly believe that all UK legislatures, having panicked at the beginning of the so called pandemic cannot now back down and admit their reaction was totally wrong
David Rowlands Member of the Welsh Parliament . . .
I totally agree with you David Rowlands. They are so far down the road of foolishness now that they dare not admit that they did anything wrong! Well done for standing up and confronting the manipulated statistics. As your accuser couldn’t think of anything worse to say other than calling you a COVID denier I would say you won that one! When they have to resort to cheap shots its because you have struck the bulls eye!
Excellent reply.
All of my ‘bubble’ of 5 are just getting over Covid. I am 70 this month and classed as extremely medically vulnerable due to a history of pulmonary embolisms (caused by a hereditary disease). My family promised me that they would not let me be taken to hospital and, although I live alone, I managed to get through somehow and 1 month later I am still recuperating. It appears that the government are more than happy to let it be known that the minute I step through their doors my DNR notice will be waiting for me. They are definitely working on fear to keep us away!
When I am back to my usual self I will continue brisk walking of 5 miles every other day and avoiding eating sugar and all the other things I do to attempt to remain healthy.
I have turned the experimental Covid vaccination down 4 times in as many days now as, despite my condition, my immune system has protected me so far and that has given me the confidence to rely on that as it comes without any side affects.
I sympathise with your recent experience Sandy and am glad to hear that you are now recovering. I would not say it was an exaggeration to claim that your family saved your life by helping you to stay at home. Hospitals don’t seem to be good places for the elderly at present. I was taken to hospital in November with suspected appendicitis. I strongly suspect that (although the nursing staff were very good) if I hadn’t been such a strong minded and feisty person! I might not have got off as lightly as I did! (It wasn’t appendicitis at all just a bad infection.)
My husband has a compromised immune system but he has been on a plateau for many months now and we take sensible precautions plus vitamin D and probiotic drinks every day and lots of water. Your medical history sounds tough but you obviously know how to look after yourself. I too plan to get back to walking just as soon as the weather lets up a bit!!! I told my GP long ago on one of my annual MOTs that I was following the Jane Eyre principle “I must keep in good health and not die”. Great doc…sadly now retired!! I’ve been doing that ever since.
I shall follow your lead about the vaccine. We have been chased up by the NHS and the surgery and were starting to waver a bit. But you have now stiffened our resolve again! Thanks!
‘The Government has no choice but to take the actions it is taking’. What a load of cr*p. No choice? How come it has never been done before for flus of various types, including ‘normal’ Winter flu.
Brave effort Frederica. Thank you for putting in so much hard work. The pathetic reply you have received goes to support the view that the whole thing is a matter of gaining dictatorial power and holding on to it.
Presumably you have already thought of disseminating this information as far as possible.
I agree with all that Frederica has said, but how luvky she has been to get an answer from an MP
I have urgently written twice to my North Devon MP concerning the disgusting actions of the eu against a part of The United Kingdom, all I get is a computer reply system followed by silence.
Its frustration that we have such low quality members in our parliament
Dont take that Mike Durrens. Keep writing to say how bad mannered it is not to reply to a constituent with legitimate concerns. Remind them that that is the reason why they are in Parliament and extremely well paid into the bargain!!!!
Pauline, I do agree with you. We have had very bad flu years and there has never been any suggestion before that imposing House Arrest was the way to go! Sounds like they have all got together at one of their global forums and stitched this one up to return us to serfdom!
I have been getting pathetic replies from my MPs for years. One (man then) even had the cheek to reply saying that as I held such strong views perhaps I should consider going into Parliament!! I wrote him back a stinker reminding him that as the three ‘pinko’ parties had stitched up the system the chances of me being selected were nil and I couldn’t afford the costs of standing as an independent as he jolly well knew! What really gets my goat is when they will write saying “it was kind of you to let me have your views”. LIke they were indeed!!!! Thats why I joined up with UKIP when the chance arose and canvassed for them instead!
I dont know where else I could send my thoughts/letters. For sure the MSM wouldn’t publish!!!!
Shame this letter cant be published in main atram media. It would galvanise more people to share their misgivings with a wider audience.
It is very obvious that MPs from all parties, particularly the Tories, are very reluctant to speak out for fear of compromising their future political careers.
Parliament by approving the Coronavirus 2020 Act last March abdicated its responsibilities and since has failed to even attempt to take them back.
We have government by decree because of that Act and nothing will change until that Act is repealed.
All the adhoc diktats that are issued with regular monotony are done so under the Public Health Act 1984 BUT they still need parliament to debate and approve retrospectively for them to become law. That fact took me three emails to my MP to establish but we are still none the wiser how they are made law because parliament is only meeting virtually and there is never any mention of Statutory Instruments being involved.
As Frederica so rightly and eruditely points out the vaccine is a shambolic gesture to cover up for this hapless government’s performance. Even the costs are never mentioned and assuming each dose costs £1 and the delivery at the point of administration is charged at £6 then the 400 million doses ordered and paid for is costing the UK taxpayer £470 million which is 40% of the total NHS budget for one year. I expect it could well be much more costly than that.
All that is on top of the initial £270 billion that parliament approved for the Treasury to spend at the start of this saga and we are heading for years of misery and a substantial rise in the cost of living.
Should the May elections be cancelled again, as well they might, then we will be denied once again the opportunity to show our disdain for this government as they must know.
I dread to think what would happen if a real public health emergency came begging.
Matt Hancock the government’s Frank Spencer said ” Stand back Betty I’m going to beat this South African virus with my hammer ” “Oh do be careful Frank”. Now look what you’ve made me do Betty. I’ll just have to say it was broken when I started”.
It’s always someone else’s fault isn’t it Frank.
You are right in every respect Geoffrey Bastin but unless we all keep complaining to our MPs (useless though most of them are) and letting them know that we know what they are doing, they will simply assume that they can (in the words of Neil Ferguson) “get away with it”!! Cancelling the elections is exactly what they are scheming for. Killing of the remains of our democracy is definitely what the agenda is now! That is why we need to keep on at them tooth and nail every single day and fill their e mails and post bags with complaints to let them know that we don’t intend to go away any time soon!
Geoffrey Bastin………..haha, very funny, I like it. Matt Hancock, the government’s Frank Spencer. That he most certainly is. In normal circumstances he would be a prime minister’s worst nightmare. I just cannot believe how he was selected to be an MP in the first place. Whatever constituency he represents must have been short on candidates on the day of selection. Words fail me to be honest, but he sounds like a Dalek when he speaks which is set at a tedious monotone pitch. Dynamic he is not. His voice would be an excellent remedy for anybody suffering from Insomnia though. 100% guaranteed to work…..
An excellent response by Frederica to her ‘on message’ MP. In the current hysteria little more can be done than continue writing to our MPs. From my personal experience the MSM are quite reluctant to print letters pointing out that the fact that the cure is turing out to be worse than the disease.
Very well written letter. Your MP reminds me of the Prison Governor in the Shawshank Redemption. The killer question is how can they be so ‘obtuse’?
And that didn’t end well for the governor.
Matt up North – thanks. I never saw the Shawshank Redemption so I will look that up.
How can they be so obtuse? It’s all in the training they get. 1) How to obfuscate and patronise the electorate and 2) How to milk the public purse 3) How to make the most every self promoting publicity opportunity on every occasion.
I did tell my MP in a previous letter (there have been quite a few over the past year) that the course being taken wouldn’t end well! But they are also taught to ignore us plebs!
Jake I am hoping that more people will write. It is all we have at present. I do get a feeling that there is a bit of a ‘headless chickens’ moment going on in my MPs office. Two days ago i received a second ‘auto acknowledgement’ for the letter I wrote in January and to which the above shows part of the MP reply. So perhaps, just maybe, they are getting bogged down with incoming letters and the system is clogging up! Jolly good job too! Perhaps they might get the message that we are all as angry as a pit full of scorpions!
How I wish we were all as ‘angry as a pit full of scorpions’! Looking aound me when in town it looks and feels more like an invasion of zombies.
I agree with you Lorrinet. It is disheartening. But I do wonder whether some of the zombies really do feel comfortable with the status quo or whether they are just sh*t scared to do anything about it or make any kind of complaint or demur in case the Stasi Police descend on them!
