‘The fighting Temeraire’ by JMW Turner – look at that sunset!

 

Let’s do what we used to do in the olden days when we had the freedom to roam our streets, shops, pubs, parks and all other localities where we used to congregate! Let’s talk about the weather. Who can forget the Spring and summer last years when we should’ve enjoyed the wall-to-wall sunshine but were stuck inside our homes because of that first lockdown, accompanied by the sadly outstanding fear campaign kicked off by the covid government – remember that ‘nudge unit’ in SAGE?

This campaign was so successful that even now people think they’ll die if they leave their homes without muzzles. Even now, they believe that any unmasked person they encounter is bent on killing them with covid. Never mind – they’ll surely all stay at home, voluntarily, because of the weather. 

So – let’s talk about the weather!  Well, the outlook is grim. Poor Bolton, as if being hit with that Indian ‘variant of concern’ wasn’t bad enough, now they had flash floods to contend with (link). Moreover, the Met Office is predicting worse to come:

“Having already suffered the coldest April in almost a century, the rest of May is predicted to be hit with a series of washouts, 60mph gales, 25ft waves bashing the south west coast – and even snow in Scotland.” (link)

It gets worse. I apologise for my private outburst of hilarity – I know full well that it’s no fun being out in the cold and wet on a day when one was looking forward to some gardening pursuits. At least from today pub goers won’t have to shiver outdoors, with rain diluting their pints. Here are some remarks about the gloom to come, from a Met Office weather expert:

“The torrid forecast means Britons will shiver into summer with wet weather and cool highs next week as well – as forecasters dubbed 2021 the ‘year without spring’. Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: ‘It’s quite shocking, with mid-teen temperatures and rain signalled over the next 14 days. Wet and windy weather and big waves are potentially on the way. Such cool temperatures across Europe are incredible for late spring.’ (link)

I beg to differ, profoundly. These ‘cool temperatures’ are only ‘incredible for late spring ‘ to those who expect more ‘evidence’ for ‘globull warming’ and thus expect lovely high temperatures and sunshine – just as we had during the lockdown spring last year. More worryingly these ‘experts’ show a profound lack of general historical weather knowledge.

Labelling this cold spell as a ‘year without spring’ is hyperbole plain and simple. Moreover, since this is a referral to the ‘year without summer’ it’s yet another piece of evidence that apparently ‘modern man’ cannot live without a daily dose of shock-horror and despondency, provided by the fearmongers in our MSM. That ‘year without summer’ was 1816, and the severe drop in temperature then was caused by the massive eruption of Mount Tambora in 1815 (link). 

The artistically inclined might find a report interesting which describes that scientists have analysed the paintings of 19th century painters, first and foremost JMW Turner – his face is on the £20 note. They found that the spectacular sunset paintings reflected the change in atmospherical particles due to the volcanic eruption (link).

As far as I’m aware there were no such volcanic eruptions last year – but what do I know, having been locked indoors all last spring and summer! Therefore, calling what is a normal weather phenomenon the ‘year without spring’ is at the very least due to ignorance. It goes hand-in-hand with the assumption that we plebs won’t know any better anyway and will swallow this statements because they’re the ‘experts’ and it’s ‘in the papers’. 

Now add to this an ‘expert inability’ to overlook the historical experience from continental Europe. There is profound historical evidence that these first weeks in May usually were cold, with rain and frost. Across Northern Europe, the saints for the days from May 12th to 15th have been called the ‘Ice Saints’ because they often and regularly brought spells of colder weather, including the last nightly frosts of spring. Well, ‘tis only ‘folklore’, and what do uneducated peasants know! But look at this quote – with an early example of ‘scientific’ correction, or ‘modelling’, refuted by ensuing empirical observations:

“Pupils of Galileo confirmed this weather pattern for the years 1655-70 and reported a marked cold snap over the days of the Ice Saints. However, in 1902 William Dines, President of the Royal Meteorological Society, used modern statistical techniques to demonstrate that the Ice Saints were a myth, brought about by selective reporting. On the other hand, a review of Kew Gardens data from 1941 to 1969 showed that 13 May was usually the warmest day of the month, and was followed by a sharp drop in temperature.” (link)

Interesting, isn’t it! Also interesting is that the modern Met Office with their supercomputer now predicts a continuing ‘cold spell’, even unto snow in the Highlands, until the end of this month – that surely can’t be just ‘folklore’. Here’s another little piece of ‘weather history’ which looks as if the present dire weather predictions are perhaps not so uncommon:

“In 1582, the replacement of the Julian calendar by the Gregorian calendar involved omitting 10 days in the calendar. So if the folklore predates the calendar change, then the equivalent dates from the climatic point of view would be May 22–25.” (link)

So ’tis not so unusual after all, is it. While our supercomputer-wielding weather experts and their ‘climate extinction’ helpers in the MSM wallow in dire predictions, expecting us to be suitably gloomy and fearful, there’s one rare example of how to deal with the dratted weather by looking on the bright side. There will be sunshine and even a heatwave – next month, that is – according to this article in Walesonline. 

That would be just the ticket to accompany the end of lockdown! Of course this’ll only happen if  “we” are all good little lemmings and do as the covid emperors and their MSM covid propaganda leaders in the MSM tell us. It would be the height of irony though if SAGE and the gloom-sayers were to determine that we need to stay locked down yet again – just when the proper summer weather comes along. 

Me, I’m determined to enjoy the sunshine whenever it comes – covid and lockdowns notwithstanding. Last year’s experience was sufficient for a lifetime – and who knows if we may not enter into a new Ice Age instead of ‘warming’. After all, it’s what ‘experts’ in the late 1970s warned us to expect.
