Ms Merkel – now the EU’s covid empress

 

It is always entertaining to watch when the powerful let their masks drop, inadvertently. It’s even more entertaining when these same powerful people show that their grasp of ‘teh science’ is pitiful beyond belief. They don’t seem to understand that they’re now regarded as that universally renowned emperor parading around nekkid. And then there are the ‘wolf’-criers who are clobbered with the Law of Unintended Consequences.

There are three ‘news’ items this morning, exemplifying perfectly the inescapable corner into which the mighty have manoeuvred themselves, all because of covid. Firstly, there’s the footie – you didn’t think this event would be untouched by covid, travelling, vaccines and all the rest of it, did you! I apologise for having to write about this, but needs must.

So, there’s this ‘European Cup’ tournament organised by the UEFA. It’s been rumbling on for a few weeks now and they’ve now arrived at the knock-out rounds. All the covid rulz have been observed, even unto two hapless English players having had to quarantine because they came into close contact with a Scottish player who tested positive. He didn’t have to self-isolate, he was needed for the next match. Never mind that now – there’s the latest match result which means that the Germans will have to come to Wembley and play England. 

This is where it becomes delicious. Not only has our covid government permitted those 2,500 UEFA functionaries and their accompanying sherpas to come here with no test & quarantine rules to be observed – what is permitted to the G7 VIPs has to be permitted to the UEFA VIPs! – 1,000 fans from each of the remaining teams are now also permitted to come.

But how does UEFA, how does our covid government reconcile this with the still existing travel bans for those coming from all those ‘amber countries’ like France and Spain? Don’t worry, the covid cabinet is going to look at this and may move some of those counties from amber to green. However, are they au fait with the latest demand from the still reigning queen or empress of Germany and thus the EU? She has spoken and uttered this wish:

“Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, called for European countries to restrict access to UK citizens. At present Germany requires most Britons to quarantine for 14 days on arrival in a move designed to stop the spread of the Delta, or Indian, variant which is dominant in the UK. Addressing the Bundestag yesterday, Merkel urged other European countries to follow suit. “In our country, if you come from Great Britain you have to go into quarantine and that’s not the case in every European country, and that’s what I would like to see,” she said. She said she regretted that the European Union had failed to agree common rules of entry for travellers from outside the bloc and criticised the decision to hold Euro 2020 matches in the UK.” (link, paywalled)

Oh dear – the mighty EU, mighty Brussels haven’t agreed on common EU covid rules, across the EU? Perhaps those countries whose economies need the income from tourism should close their doors – but only to Brits? Should they now all do as Germany, “we in this country”, are doing? 

What about “the science” then? How come ‘delta cases’ are allegedly rising everywhere in eu countries – even though they have all those restrictions, from muzzles to ‘social distancing’ still in place? Why, when Brits already had to submit to quarantine in Germany for the last couple of weeks, are these ‘delta cases’ rising in Germany? How is this possible? Do they not do ‘T & T’ and would therefore know who were these delta lepers, bringing in that virus from infested Britain to their pristine countries?

Strangely enough, Ms Merkel seems to think that vaccinated Brits are still prone to become sick with covid. In other words, as far as she and the EU countries are concerned, a British vaccination passport and a current negative test aren’t sufficient to document someone doesn’t have covid. Best to close all borders, but only to the British. Is there a sniff of ‘punish them for Brexit’ in the air? 

And then it becomes truly bizarre: why are footie teams, especially the pristine Germans, permitted to travel to London for their matches? Because – and you really couldn’t make it up! – the alternative was relocating all those knock-out matches to Budapest. That’s in Hungary … and Brussels and Germany loathe Hungary, loathe the PM, Mr Orban, because they’re all horrible, anti-LGBTXYZ people!

The last few days saw a huge storm in that particular ‘homophobe’ teacup because the mayor of Munich, where the Germans were playing Hungary last night, wanted to have that footie stadium lit up in rainbow colours which the UEFA eventually forbade.

What a choice for Merkel and the EU, what a choice for the virtue-signalling footie teams: go to Wembley, in covid-infested UK and take all precautions not to come into contact with the masses – or go to Hungary and come into contact with the ‘horrible homophbic masses. Awful, innit! One can ‘protect’ ones VIPs by creating a ‘footie bubble’:

“Many of the VIPs will fly in and out on the same day, while those who stay will probably do so for one night in hotels block-booked for the tournament — meaning they would be among fellow VIPs rather than the public.” (link, paywalled)

Would they have created ‘anti-homophobe bubble’, to protect VIPs from Hungarians should the whole thing have been shifted to Budapest? Hm. And where would that leave the entire footie world, so intent on virtue signalling, when their World Cup takes place next year – in Qatar? A country renowned for its acceptance of Western values, especially in regard to LGBTXYZ ‘rights’? What a dilemma!

Never mind, Madame Merkel has spoken: Brits must be punished with stringent quarantines and never mind test results and vaccine passports. I wonder if our own covid empire’s attempt to prolong lockdown by using SAGE scare data is the basis for Madame Merkel’s demand.

Moreover, I wonder if our own covid fanatics, our covid emperors and SAGE modellers have ever heard of what is called the ‘Law of Unintended Consequences’. It’s not unreasonable to suppose that their zeal for keeping us locked down, using all those impressive scare graphs means that the rest of the world has taken them at their word, that this is why they regard us as a hopelessly infested place, best to be shunned.

Doesn’t this illustrate nicely that calling ‘wolf’ all the time has indeed unintended consequences – consequences which we all have to bear, the SAGE wolf-criers, the covid politicians and certain VIPs of course being exempt.
