Batten down the hatches – it can only get worse

 

Firstly, apologies for running late: the lurgy I succumbed to over Christmas has knocked the stuffing out of me. Secondly, one look at the headlines of the dead tree press for this morning made me wish I’d stayed in bed. Look at them at your peril (link).

Delving deeper into the morass that is the online MSM, I wonder if the chief editors are still on holidays. There are some ‘articles’ which really ought not to have seen the light of day. The DT gets ‘first place’  in this run to the bottom of ‘news management’, but only because I opened that site first. They give us one ‘sweet’ piece, ‘heartwarming’ and all, about how happy those Ukrainian refugees are who were placed on cruise ships moored in Edinburgh. Read the headline only if you’ve got a strong stomach:

“‘We’ll return to Ukraine when it’s safe but, until then, living on this cruise ship gives us a community’ – After escaping the trauma of war, a host of Ukrainian families are finding solace on the MS Victoria in Edinburgh” (paywalled link)

This, you understand, happened because all our other ‘refugee centres’ are already overflowing. I wonder if the Surgeon pulled this off because there were sweeteners from Westminster. I also wonder why it is that the Home Office hasn’t placed those dinghy drivers in such accommodation. It surely would be cheaper to have 1,000 of them on one cruise ship than in, say, ten hotels, no? Or would that be ‘racist’, by any chance? 

Interestingly, next to this ‘happy’ piece is one about Brits emigrating, under the headline: “‘Why I’m emigrating from zero-growth Britain’ – High taxes and inflation are pushing more and more young professionals to move overseas – and not look back” (paywalled link). 

These are ‘young professionals’, see, where ‘young’ means they’re are around 40 years of age. Oddly enough, these ‘professionals’ don’t seem to have grasped the fact that inflation is as bad in the countries of their choice – Germany, for crying out loud! – or Estonia or other EU countries.

Of course, ‘fleeing’ to Dubai sounds wonderful, inspiring even, especially for that age group which is usually watermelon-like and vociferous in their support for green and lefty crap, like ‘refugees welcome’ and ‘save the Sacred Cow’: all those sacred ‘human rights’ and ‘stop the white patriarchy’ or ‘climate change’ don’t apply when the ‘artificial grass is soo green in those islamic desert states. Funny how these ‘professionals’ are so unaware of the reasons for the tax burden we have to shoulder and which they see as incentive to emigrate.

And then there’s The Times which has managed to sink even lower than the DT. They published a ‘report’ over which even their now more guardinista-like comment posters have poured buckets of mockery. This is the headline: “Russian sex industry suffers as clients are sent to fight” and this is what yon ‘reporter’ reported:

“When President Putin’s mobilisation drive began in September, earnings fell by 30 to 50 per cent, according to the online magazine Sekret Firmy. Hardest hit were the escorts charging 3,000 to 10,000 rubles (£35 to £115). Their main clients had been Russia’s shrinking middle classes who departed the country en masse when the war began.” (link, paywalled)

Oh, don’t our hearts bleed for those poor women! Why didn’t those ‘sex workers’ flee the country as well? After all, earnings in the ‘rich West’ surely would be better? Never mind, they are resilient and so must that intrepid Times ‘reporter’ have been because this is what she found:

“Sex workers, especially those at the middle and lower end of the market, have been reporting a fall in revenue, but business has been picking up near training camps for mobilised soldiers, such as in the Siberian city of Novosibirsk.” (link, paywalled)

How does she know that? Did she get to travel to Novosibirsk when travel to Russia is generally ‘off limits’ for normal people, even Times ‘reporters’? Or did she just copy and paste some stuff found on social meejah? What brilliant reporting! Of course, we’re not told what happened to the Ukrainian ladies of that profession or where they’ve gone to ply their trade. No, don’t speculate, that would be misogynistic and sexist.

And so to the ongoing strikes. The DM writes:

“’No 6am start for me!’: Commuters’ joy as rail strikes force millions to WFH on first day back after Xmas with 80,000 trains cancelled over five days – while National Highways staff downing tools today could spark chaos on the roads” (link)

Wahey! People falling back into Lockdown mode and ‘WFH’ without the government nudgers forcing them to! Well, that ought to slow down the horrors facing our poor doctors and nurses manning and womanning our poor Sacred Cow which is of course creaking and overwhelmed. If everybody stays at home then nobody can catch the flu or covid, right?

It gets even better, according to The Times. See this headline: “Millions will shun trains for ever, government tells unions – Ministers fear permanent harm from worst disruption in 30 years” . Oh dear. Oh dearie me. Here’s the inevitable ‘source’, nameless as usual even as The Times now enforces a policy of ‘true names’ for all their comment posters:

“A government source said: “This is an act of self-harm — a generation of passengers will just write off the railways. We’re talking about permanent scarring. The longer the strikes continue, the greater the risk.” (link, paywalled)

Indeed – and wouldn’t that scupper the Net Zero crap according to which we will all have to use rails and other public transport and shun our cars! Perhaps local and national government will insist on people only using their bikes, forcing them to move closer to their work? Where are the weepy stories about nurses not being able to get to their work places? Oh – they drive cars, do they? How un-green …

And finally, with apologies for making you suffer and feel ill as much as I do, the latest warning by Paul Goodman for The Times: “Brace yourselves for a Boris Johnson comeback – Supporters of the former PM can see a path back to Downing Street for him if the Tories are floundering in the summer” (link, paywalled). Words fail me! What is the matter with the Westminster swamp dwellers, be they politicians, be they MSM ‘employees’? Are they all reading Harry’s ‘book’?

That’s all I have got for you today. Apologies again, for being so late and for the misery I had to inflict on you. Never mind how bad things are: it can and will get worse. So batten down the hatches: you have been warned!
