The curtain is coming down – on 2020, on Brexit, but not on covid

 

Today we’ll be treated to a most wonderful day of Peacock Theatre: the ‘debate’ and vote on the Brexit Bill. Today we’ll also learn how many more regions will be placed into tier 4. Our beloved MSM weren’t quite certain which one of those two ‘events’ deserved their top headline, Brexit or covid, but the covid scare headlines are of the finest scaremongery because readers, simply not interested any longer, need a larger dose of ‘panic’.

Let’s firstly look at covid and tiers and all the rest of it. There will be more tier 4 restrictions because – London’s hospitals are ‘running out of ICU beds’? Because some London hospitals are ‘running out of oxygen’? Omigawd! “We” need ‘moar tier 4’ because:

“Hospitals in London were running out of intensive care beds and drawing up plans to send Covid-19 patients to other parts of the country after doctors expressed fears about how the health service would cope in the coming weeks.” (link, paywalled)

To make quite certain that “we” remain suitably frightened, the DM shouts that ‘doctors will have to make horrendous choices about who will live and who will die’ (link). Oh dear. But they are planning to send ICU patients to York, for example … and that’s why people in rural districts must als be locked down – to ‘save London hospitals’:

“Last night ministers were considering imposing the toughest measures on parts of the southwest and Cumbria, where the new variant also appears to be gaining ground even though cases remain relatively low.” (link, paywalled)

Makes sense, doesn’t it – well, it does if you believe that life as we know it must stop until there’s not one covid case anywhere. Oh, let’s not forget that yesterday’s reports on the dismantling of the Nightingale Hospitals must have been fake news! Today the NHS says they have kept them … well, some of them. Two are ‘on standby’, in Birmingham and Sunderland. One is being used – in Exeter. The one in Manchester is being used as some sort of rehab facility. Ah. So that’ll be of great help for London.

Btw – the huge London Nightingale hospital has indeed been emptied of all equipment, due to staff shortages! Staff can’t be shuttled around between Nightingale and normal hospitals, we’re informed, because that would disrupt ‘normal services’ and anyway:

“NHS leaders said that staff absence was double its normal level for the time of year owing to coronavirus infections or self-isolation, and nurses had been offered extra pay to cover shifts.” (link, paywalled)

There it is again: ‘self-isolation’ – all thanks to T & T. Remember: asymptomatic people must be the dreaded ‘super-spreaders’, therefore everybody must stay in quarantine, especially nurses, covid-ill or not.

However, there’s a senior doctor who has published his observations in this morning’s Lockdown Sceptics Newsletter. He explains graphically – yes, using graphs – what is really going on and then raises some very awkward points. After explaining that this 2nd wave or ‘winter resurgence’ was expected since May, he writes that the NHS is now better equipped than it was in Spring, pointing out that

“There have been six months to train extra ICU nurses to treat a known disease process. Six months to upskill already trained staff to enhance their capabilities and confidence. Six months to plan redeployment of staff from other duties to Covid wards. Six months to run tabletop exercises, to practice organisational and logistics drills, to stress test contingency plans in the event of predictable problems such as rising staff sickness rates.” (link)

Indeed, and these are ‘known knowns’ – so why are none of the ‘health’ editors in our MSM making those points? Are they scared to do so? Next, this doctor asks questions which actually are a horrendous indictment of ‘Our Sacred Cow’:

“Surely, our NHS cannot be as poorly prepared for winter COVID as it was in the spring? Surely, with six months to prepare, our experienced NHS managers must be confident in their ability to cope with a predictable risk without the system being ‘overwhelmed’? Surely, after six months of preparation, the British public has a right to expect that our healthcare system should be in a position to manage winter pressures without constant advocacy of intensified national lockdowns and catastrophic shroud waving in the press from senior Government advisers.” (link)

Indeed again! With ‘moar tier 4’ more of us will have to sit at home, thus more of us can write to our locked-down MPs and demand answers. After all, since “we” have sacrificed so much to ‘Save Our Sacred Cow’, surely we deserve to be told why they’re still unprepared? 

And so to that Brexit Bill Theatre. There will be a tedious non-debate in the ghastly, empty HoC Chamber, starting at 9.30am, with the vote taking place at 2.30pm. That shouldn’t take much time since most MPs, as we’ve been pointing out repeatedly, are voting by proxy. Some Labour MPs, the SNP and DUP will vote against. Then it’s the turn of ‘Our Noble Lords’, who will start debating at 3pm and are expected to conclude at 11pm. Apparently, proceedings might take longer should the Lords insist on amendments: 

“If there are amendments, the Bill will go through “ping pong”, in which it passes between the Commons and the Lords until the amendments are passed or defeated, before it is sent for Royal Assent.” (paywalled link)

I hope the ‘Noble Lords’ think of the poor Queen who will have to stay up until the early hours of the morning to give Royal Assent should her Lords squabble! Her assent is expected to be given from 11pm to 1am and the whole thing will come into force tomorrow at 11pm because that’ll be midnight Brussels time.

Oh yes: there’s one more ‘High Theatre’ event. Ms vdLeyen will ‘sign for Brussels’ mid-afternoon and the RAF will fly that signed Treaty to London. How exciting! Will our TV meejah accompany that flight with their own helicopters or drones even though there may be rain and sleet, according to the Met Office?

I’m sorry, but it’s obvious that this BRINO Bill will become Law, nicely orchestrated by BJ who hasn’t given Parliament any time to debate and scrutinise it properly and in depth. I also suspect that there has been some almighty horse-trading en coulisse, to alleviate the objections of the ERG who will vote for that Bill.

I believe this is the actual reason they’ll vote for it: “The Agreement contains a provision for termination on 12 months’ notice.” (link). Sir John Redwood has pointed this out already. In this morning’s Diary he appears to take the Agreement as springboard for demanding further, clarifying legislation (link).

So that, it appears, will be that. Apologies, but I won’t be watching this ‘historical’ exercise. Why waste time observing how our, the people’s noses, are being rubbed into the mire of impotent anger by those ‘elites’, by those peacocks toeing the mandarins’ Remain line, selling us out.

And finally, in order to make us feel regretful and afraid, we read yesterday that we’d now have to fill in a customs form at the Post Office if we want to send parcels to the EU. Gawd. The horror! Never mind that we had to do this well into the 2000’s. Today there are reports in RemainCentral (of course – where else!) that hauliers are still not ‘ready’ for the new rules, accompanied by a heartbreaking outcry from a Logistics Association director who said that:

“European hauliers may be reluctant to send lorries into the UK after noting the “lack of concern for driver welfare” as thousands of hauliers spent Christmas in Kent, waiting to cross into France following a negative coronavirus test”. (link, paywalled)

Will Macron, will Brussels now demand “we” provide toilet facilities, ‘just in case’, for all those lorry drivers before he permits them to leave France? I wouldn’t put it past him! Here’s another horror vision: we may not have seen the last of Barnier – he’s allegedly not ruling out standing as candidate for President in the French elections (paywalled link) in 2022. That’s all we need!

As the covid year is trundling to it’s close, as the government’s Brexit show is coming to an official end, there’s one last point to be made: the Westminster Elite, this coalition of mandarins, politicians and MSM chiefs may feel they have the upper hand, that they’ve cowed us sufficiently. They may think that our anger is impotent as their juggernaut rolls over our objections, be they to the Brexit Treaty, be they to their covid restrictions.

History however shows that those ‘elites’ who deem themselves the most secure are the ones who usually fall the more easily and quickly. So let’s not give up the fight. Let’s remember Churchill’s words in our darkest hours – not that BJ will want to remember them! – and
