Not his fault – he wasn’t there! Had he, the famous ‘Big Dog’, been present he’d have won those by-elections …
As predicted, the Tories got slaughtered in yesterday’s by-elections. Tiverton – the constituency where that ‘porn MP’ had to resign, went to the Libdems. Wakefield in the North went back to Red. The turnout both constituencies was above 50%. The DM reports the truly gory details (link), with nice graphs.
We read that Johnson, asked before the result were in, said he’d not resign. We also read that Tiverton’s Tory candidate, Ms Helen Hurford, “locked herself in a room previously reserved for media interviews [….] when the scale of her defeat became clear.” (link) – oh dear. I shall refrain from saying what I really think about that. I’ll only say that this isn’t the behaviour I expected from a Tory candidate …
Above and beyond this electoral bloodbath there are two other aspects worth mentioning. One is that the rumours about a LibLab ‘election pact’, not to campaign against each other, were correct, confirmed by the results. In Wakefield – now Lab – the LibDem candidate lost his deposit with only 508 votes, in Tiverton – now LibDem – the Labour candidate lost theirs (1562 votes). The DM scare graph producers created a lovely graph illustrating these swings (link, scroll down a bit).
Matt Singh, an ‘election and opinion polling analyst’ according to wiki (I never knew we had such animals!) tweeted that this was ‘tactical voting on an industrial scale’. Just so! Such ‘tactics’ show me that we voters are only statistical toys in the calculations of party and election managers. It also shows that Lab and LibDem have party machines and party members who are happy to be told how to vote. Are ‘free elections’ where voters are voting according to their political opinions now a thing of the past?
I leave it to you to wonder how any of the non-establishment conservative splinter parties can ever hope to win when they separately lost their deposits, when a general poll after the by-elections, giving Lab an 11% lead, shows that all those ‘reform’ parties, added together, only achieve 7% of possible votes. Anybody still thinking that our political party system is just fine better think again!
While Johnson and wifey enjoyed themselves in Rwanda, there’s another significant development. The Tory Party Chairman Oliver Dowden resigned as chairman:
“Dowden, in a letter to Boris Johnson, said supporters were “distressed and disappointed by recent events, and I share their feelings”. He said the by-elections in Wakefield and Tiverton & Honiton were just “the latest in a run of very poor results for our party”. Dowden, who as party chairman runs the Tory election machine, said: “We cannot carry on with business as usual. Somebody must take responsibility and I have concluded that, in these circumstances, it would not be right for me to remain in office.” (link, paywalled)
The ‘allies of the Big Dog’ might applaud Mr Dowden’s resignation because clearly he and the Tory ‘election machine’ must have been at fault. BJ himself, after all, is a vote winner, innit, and doesn’t need to go. The Tories only lost because he wasn’t there – he was doing PM things in Kiev and now Rwanda – and now isn’t the time to deny him support, is it!
I however believe that Dowden’s analysis, that the Tories and by extension the PM ‘cannot carry on with business as usual’, that ‘somebody must take responsibility’, is a veiled but powerful criticism of BJ. The responsibility of these election disasters is Johnson’s. He and his allies cannot hide behind this ‘noble self-sacrifice’ of Mr Dowden.

Mr. Dowden’s polite thanks to BJ for letting him serve as Minister is as expected – he would have to write that! – damns BJ further by praising the loyal party ‘volunteers and staffers’ who are ‘the backbone of the Party and deserve better than this.’ Indeed – but so do voters deserve better, so does the country deserve better!
This morning’s print editions came out before the results were in but even so they demonstrate nicely what the Westminster MSM editors think of us peasants. They believe that all we’re interested in are our summer holidays, thus their outrage is dripping from their headlines about ‘travel chaos’, with BA staff threatening strikes as well. Some also mention “BJ in Rwanda” where he ‘rebuked Prince Charles’ for his remarks about that ‘refugee deal’. Here is the usual compilation.
Speaking of Rwanda and the Commonwealth Conference, we read in The Times that
“Boris Johnson has personally reassured President Kagame that sending asylum seekers to Rwanda is popular, The Times has learnt. Amid tensions between the prime minister and Prince Charles about the policy, Johnson told Kagame that it was supported by the British public.” (link, paywalled)
Has ‘the public’ actually been asked? The lefty, ‘human rights’ crowd certainly don’t support this, as demonstrated by the interventions by their lawyers.
There’s also a puff piece for Miz Truss in The Times, reporting on a speech she’ll give later today. Her speech is a veiled attempt to get the Commonwealth countries into the anti-Russia and anti-China fold:

Oh yes? Are all Commonwealth Countries expected to follow the UK, clearly the USA’s poodle on this vital issue? Here are some more fluffy quotes, dripping with inanities:

I’m sure the Commonwealth politicians will be impressed! There’s her hair-raising remark about us being in an ‘increasingly geopolitical world’ – really? Are geopolitics a new, Trussian ‘discovery’? Moreover, will the Commonwealth countries be prepared to ‘sacrifice’ their economies in order to be such ‘bulwark’, like we back home are expected to?
Aren’t Johnson and La Truss displaying, ahem, signs of ‘colonial imperialism’ when they tell the Commonwealth Countries to toe the anti-Russia and anti-China line? Perhaps BJ and Truss ought to ponder the economical consequences of their poodle policies. While Russia is exporting grain, food and fuel to Commonwealth Countries in need we won’t be able to because we’ll have nothing to export except inflation.
The two by-election results might have been a protest vote as is usual during a parliament’s mid-term. However, these results tell me that BJ’s and La Truss’ days are running out. We plebs want our elected politicians to do what is good for the country, for us, especially in times such as these where the economy is crashing down a cliff while our PM and his Foreign Secretary have become warmongers-in-chief.
Not that the ‘alternative’, LibLab, is any better! Certainly not when the true string-pullers in Whitehall are never called to account, not when the various right-of-centre parties aren’t capable of uniting. I’ll not even point out their ineptness in being unable to ensure tactical voting such as the LibLabs have done.

I find it impossible to trust him anymore. He also said Brexit was done immediately after the referendum result and he advocated the jab .

People that have tried to protest the loss of their life’s savings have found that their covid health passes have turned red and hence they’ve lost their right to travel.

Well I did think about that of course. and I ruminated over her motives in telling us all this. I think I did a comment here months ago about her article asking just that question but no answer. But what she says is largely on the right lines: I do think that the meltdown as I described above will come although some slippage from her predicted Oct 2021. ; and we should all prepare for it. We should always have a survival plan for when digital transactions fail; and food shortages are coming so I would stock up -but more than just the odd can here or there. Generally be prepared for surviving outside the corporate grid. A big cyber outage will come I’ve no doubt so essential to have on paper or USB’s proof of ownership of your assets.

Instead he has focussed his attention upon taking the Conservatives to the far left of politics with his crap green agenda, is presently doing little to support the population insofar as cost of living increases, has not made the most of what Brexit had to offer and scrapped the supposed ‘green’ taxes on our energy bills, and has gone about depleting our defence capabilities of tanks, air defence missiles and other weaponry and handed it to Ukraine in addition to financial aid and done his level best to provoke Vladimir Putin and make us a sitting target in the process. And all he has to say in response is business as usual and will listen to voters but won’t resign. Those useless lethargic MP’s Conservative MP’s presently sitting on the backsides doing diddly squat in the House of Commons, thinking that their own personal majorities are safe, need to set about changing the rules of the 1922 Backbench Committee, and get shot of the bumbling clown presently ensconced in Downing Street at the earliest opportunity, otherwise Brexit and everything else we hold dear in this country will be trashed and before we know it will back in the European Union.

Somehow we need to create a coalition of sensible independents to overturn the party system. I see some are already crowing about re-entering the EU; time for a robust treason and sedition law to be restored so they may be dealt with in the traditional manner.
What these by elections and other recent by elections have also taught us is that the current right of centre political parties like UKIP, Reform UK, For Britain, Reclaim and Heritage Party are not serving us well at the moment, and working at cross purposes with each other There are too many of them, many have similar policies, but none of them have a leader capable of putting across a strong and robust message in a coherent way to provide a viable alternative to the electorate. There is a political vacuum to be filled on the centre right, and at the moment it is not being filled. Richard Tice needs to step down as leader of Reform UK at the earliest opportunity as he doesn’t cut the mustard in any way shape or form. At best he is an admin man not a party leader and should be replaced by Nigel Farage who is the only politician of the centre right, who has the capability, charisma and knowledge base to form a broad coalition of like minded parties prepared to fill that political vacuum which the Conservatives have deserted under hapless Boris Johnson. All of the afore mentioned parties performed very badly at the two most recent by elections having attracted around 1% share of the vote or worse, and the time has come for their leaders to put their differences aside and campaign under one banner and under one leader. My message would be come on Nigel, the time to act is right now, step up to the plate, return to frontline politics and lead us to the promised land.
Certainly need one combined party with a charismatic leader / leadership team , this may attract financial backers, publicity and ultimately some success. Can only see a partially rebadged and revitalised UKIP as the candidate. Even though current polling is more than poor everyone in Britain is familier with brand UKIP.
If a broad coalition of right of centre political parties could be cobbled together it should NOT be called UKIP, otherwise it wouldn’t be considered a coalition would it. Serious consideration needs to be given to this now, as fighting elections on a singular basis and against each other is utterly futile and achieves nothing, especially in the present circumstances The individual party leaders owe it to their collective memberships and activist base and the electorate alike to at least explore this concept in my view. And any coalition that could be formed should adopt a name which does not include their individual party name or a part thereof . The coalition would need to be run democratically with a governing board made up equal numbers from each participating party. In my opinion no party can preach reform within the country unless it is open and accountable to its own membership. Insofar as UKIP is concerned, whilst the name was relevant prior to 31st January 2020 it is no longer relevant and is associated with unnecessary political baggage and should have re-branded when it had the opportunity to do so in 2017/18. However insofar as Reform UK is concerned it should have stuck with its former name The Brexit Party whilst at the same time democratised itself.
We already have everything that’s needed. It merely needs putting together, organising,and spreading the good news. It’s childishly simple. But first you must get rid of the conservative blockade in UKIP. It can be tried without ukip but far more difficult. Although not for much longer. Their Tiverton share was 0.7 %. So the important people in charge of ukip have managed to reduce its importance by 90% in the last 2 years and 83 % before, to give a total loss of support of 92.3 %. An heroic cock up. But they do still have an echo of memory which might save a couple of months. Better than starting from Reform or scratch anyway.
Ahh well……. Everything I’ve ever said has gone in one ear etc. Incidentally, by my calculations Inflation still has a further 26% on the original level or 21 % planned political but disguised intrinsic levels from now excluding the further QI they won’t be able to resist.

TG Spokes……….it has gone in one ear and remained in my mind in fact. You are entirely correct, the 0.7% share of the vote that UKIP achieved at Tiverton and Honiton is nothing short of derisory. And their candidate was the current chairman as well, but from what I heard him say on You Tube, he was not very impressive. It just reinforces my belief that some of the parties of the centre right now need to consider fighting under one banner in a loose coalition and under one leader. To do otherwise is completely futile.

If voting changed anything, they’d make it illegal – I’m not saying its pointless, just that it doesn’t do what you think it does. It only serves you as a comfort pill, a badge of participation and feeling like one is being represented. We’re taught in classrooms that democracy brings freedom and progress; but as long as democracy is limited just to voting, it will remain a means of wielding power and keeping control, scarily akin to Orwell’s 1984.

I for one hope that’s right, but in my own head I believe he has been toast for some time, as he has proved time again he simply does not have what it takes to hold high office. He has utterly wasted the 80 odd seat landslide majority he got in 2019 and the goodwill that was given him from across the political spectrum. He is lazy, scruffy, arrogant, unstatesmanlike, doesn’t listen, doesn’t pay attention to detail, way too fond of listening to his own voice and does not deliver on his election promises. His legacy will be getting us out of the European Union but even that wasn’t done properly. Even if he were somehow able to hang onto office until the next general election , he will lead his thoroughly inept party to electoral oblivion and in all probability will lose his own Uxbridge seat as well. He promised so much, but delivered so little…..
