Look what I found …

 

Let’s have a quick romp through the ‘news’ before I look at a Brexit ‘theme’. To start with, here’s the usual front page compilation by Auntie Beeb’s ‘staff’: “Newspaper headlines: Sunak on ‘woke politics’ and a big win for Comer” (link). Comer, in case you wonder, is the person wearing this strange red dress, splashed across all front pages. Never heard of her? Me neither …

Staying with the laydees: Finland’s nice, young PM, a WEF-Schwab figure who had catapulted Finland into NATO, sadly lost the elections yesterday. I love the choice of labels used by Remain Central (all emphases are mine):

“Sanna Marin, Finland’s prime minister with an international rock-star image, has been ejected at a general election as her Social Democrats came third behind conservatives and populist parties. Days after securing her country Nato membership, Marin conceded defeat in a white-knuckle count. Her party was heading for 43 seats with 19.9 per cent of the vote, behind the National Coalition on 48 seats (20.8 per cent) and the Eurosceptic Finns Party on 46 (20.1 per cent).” (link, paywalled)

Blimey – a ‘Eurosceptic Party’ got 20% of the votes? How can that be? Note well that any political party not belonging to the equivalent of our Uniparty has to be ‘populist’. Well, it’s a step up from ‘extreme far-right’, I suppose.

Back here in Blighty, the ‘Dover misery’ continues. While the DM for example has a reasonably straightforward report (link), Remain Central makes it quite clear what the cause is: Brexit. The Remainers just lapped it up. Under the headline “Dover delays: Officials dismiss claim that queues are ‘not to do with Brexit”, their ‘Transport Correspondent’ wrote:

“Officials at the port of Dover have dismissed claims by the home secretary that the queues are nothing to do with Brexit as passengers endured a third day of major delays. A spokesman for the UK’s busiest passenger port said that the processing time for each passenger had increased since Britain left the EU and it was a factor behind the disruption.” (link, paywalled)

Of course, what does the Home Sec know … and what does a ‘source’ know! Here’s an excellent example by Remain Central of how to spin a statement:

“A source close to the home secretary later suggested that the issues are the result of how French officials have decided to do post-Brexit checks. However, the checks carried out by French border officers are the same for all arrivals from so-called third countries, which are outside the bloc. Although the new post-Brexit border checks came into force on January 1 2021, international leisure travel was significantly reduced because of the pandemic. The port has suffered significant issues at all peak times since last July — the first major getaway since Christmas 2019 — when passengers faced waits of more than 20 hours to board ferries.” (link, paywalled)

It seems  Dover ’officials’ thought travel wouldn’t pick up after we were let out of lockdowns. How interesting!  Also interesting is the ‘warning’ that from November things will get even worse because the EU will finally have their new Entry Scheme (EES) according to which:

“Under the scheme, all arrivals from outside the European Union will have four fingerprints scanned and a photograph taken. The data will be captured on the first entry to the bloc and verified on subsequent visits.” (link, paywalled)

This is how Brussels will ‘secure’ their borders – because of all those ‘illegals’, I assume. Will Swiss travellers, will travellers from Japan, the USA or South America, from India and the Arab states all be happy to have their photo and fingerprints taken and ‘captured’ by the EU?  Or will there be ‘exemptions’, begging the question why our Brexit ‘negotiators’ were not negotiating such exemptions for us?

Perhaps it’s because of this: these data ‘will be captured’ and kept on file ‘for later’. How does this fit in with the ‘privacy legislation’ which is especially stringent in the EU? Is it ‘fine when we, Brussels, do it while all you peasants better not transgress’? Next see this:

“Currently, post-Brexit checks take about 90 seconds for a car. This is already at least double the amount of time compared with when the UK was in the EU. Once operational, the EES will replace the “wet stamping” of passports and will also provide border officers with an automatic countdown of how many days Britons have spent in Europe. Under post-Brexit rules, Britons without the right to work or reside in the EU can only stay for 90 days in any 180-day period.” (link, paywalled)

Isn’t it … illuminating that none of the Remainers/Rejoiners seem to be the least bit bothered by Brussels harvesting and keeping private data! I can’t help but think that HM Government is only too happy to get their fingers on all those data as well. Have we become so ‘relaxed’ about this data collection because ‘foreign holidays’ are ‘important’ that we’re happy to sell out our privacy?

This also recalls the argument during the referendum campaign that “we” must remain because roaming charges for smartphones would rise for Brits ‘after Brexit’. Now it’s travel delays which “we” could have avoided had we Remained … 

But never mind all that: let the British lemmings enjoy their holidays while they can. After all, in the not too distant future, private ICE (internal combustion engine) cars will have been made to vanish from the EU roads because: ‘Climate catastrophe’!, and they’ll probably become forbidden here as well because ‘Net Zero’, so why bother now.

That’s all I have for today. Imagine what this ‘Dover crisis’ would look like if all those cars were electric. Would there be loading stations every 100 yards along the motorways? Would smartmeters cut off electricity to private homes during such ‘holiday traffic crisis’? The mind boggles. Have a good day!
