The football god has punished the top virtue-signalling nation

 

 

There is a god – a football god that is, and he punished the woke. Rest assured, I’m not going to write about yon game with the round ball and who kicked that ball where. It’s about wokeism and the attempt of the Alphabet Groups to enforce their views – decidedly western ones – on the rest of the world. 

Firstly though a quick reminder that NGOs are trying to roll back Brexit. In this case it’s the Trade Unions together with the CBI which was always Remain. It’s on the front page of the FT this morning, under the headline:

“UK business and unions demand scrapping of planned bonfire of EU rules – Letter from broad alliance of groups says bill will ‘cause significant confusion and disruption’” (link, paywalled)

Big Business and trade unions would become ‘confused’ should those EU rules be scrapped? I find this amazing because we peasants are always being told to be ‘flexible’ and accept that times change. And the CBI and TUC cannot? Or do they in fact not want to? The Times writes:

“Rishi Sunak has been told to drop plans to remove EU-derived law from the statue book by several business, legal, worker and environmental groups. The alliance of more than a dozen organisations including the Trades Union Congress, the Institute of Directors (IoD) and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, said the proposed changes would cause difficulties for several sectors. In a letter sent to Grant Shapps, the business secretary, last night the alliance said the plans would create further uncertainty for businesses.” (link, paywalled)

All those powerful entities which ‘govern’ businesses and by extension the economy are incapable of dealing with ‘uncertainty’? Like the ‘uncertainty’ we all have to live with thanks to the energy market disaster, the exorbitant energy prices? That crisis, the one already in the making last year, manifest by the first horrendous price rises last October, months before the war in the Ukraine started? That crisis? Do these NGOs believe the EU is dealing so much better with this?

Instead of adapting and demanding those EU rules be scrapped, it looks as if they have been working hard, en coulisse, to set up Rejoin. Is this why the Westminster swamp dwellers are so keen to heave Starmer into No 10? Given the way the MSM, with help from the antisocial meejah, have been ‘nudging’ us into lockdowns and vaccine acceptance it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if other nudgers have been hard at work to create this ‘groundswell for Labour’ or indeed nudging us into wokeism.

And so to the footie World Cup! Certain European footie governing bodies had decided that their captains would wear a lovely armband, with a heart in rainbow colors, saying ‘One Love’. After all, showing the world, ion a muslim country, how the West is united behind Alphabet groups would be oh so powerful! It would make the rest of the world really take note!

As the whole circus kicked off, the top entity, FIFA, told those countries that the captains would get the yellow card and points would be deducted. These countries were England, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and Wales. In the UK there was a mild wailing about the decision of the FA to obey. In Germany however – a EU member state, in case the TUC, CBI and the rest have forgotten – the MSM bewailed the spinelessness of the DFB, the equivalent of the FA, printing acres of pixels both on ‘FIFA dictatorship’ and’western values’. 

Here in the UK the whole thing was quickly discarded thanks to the performances of the English and Welsh teams, now bereft of their woke statement for ‘One Love’.  The Germans however kept the outrage of the thwarted virtue signallers going. Suddenly, it was also about Free Speech.

And so, yesterday, before kick-off, the German players took ‘a stance’ against FIFA’s decision. In their team photo, they all put their hands in front of their mouths, symbolising that they were prohibited from ‘speaking truth’ about the woke value of promoting Alphabet groups. This photo graces the reports in the DT (here) and The Times (here) – you can see them without paying. To me, they look as if they’re all trying hard not to vomit, but that’s just me …

And so, the football god took a hand, punishing the proud, woke, ‘virtuous’ German team with a defeat. They were beaten by Japan (2 : 1, if you want to know). The wailing and gnashing of teeth by German sports writers was wonderful to behold. Their excuse was that the poor German players had been so distracted by that terrible FIFA diktat,  forbidding them making such powerful woke stand for “western” values. 

We’ve seen that woke groups have tried quite successfully to push their agenda onto the playing fields. I only need to mention the unspeakable ritual of ‘taking the knee’. While that might just perhaps have rung a bell in the rest of the world, the ‘One Love’ agenda certainly doesn’t. None of the other football associations were going to join this woke bandwagon – not even the USA.

The European countries thought their footie success would take the rest of the world by storm and make them change their minds. However, the football god decided differently and so one of the ‘big’ football powers, Germany, was being trampled under. Allow me a brief instant of gloating!

I find it interesting how we and the EU have again been shown up as poodles of the USA, letting ‘us’ take initiatives and bear the brunt when things go wrong while carefully disengaging themselves from the consequences even as their Washington mouthpieces make suitable noises. 

I find it even more interesting that this virtue signalling has come to a whimpering halt. Symbolic gestures like wearing of armbands do not change the world. Sadly, what does change the world is the way this woke agenda, this cancel culture, has been promoted in academe, jubilantly reported in our MSM.

Of course, we don’t hear from those other NGOs, those small groups up and down the country taking a stand against the indoctrination of our children. They do exist. However, all those powerful NGOs which now demand that EU rules not be scrapped still haven’t woken up to the destruction of the economy they so care for by those woke, Alphabet groups. But then again, they prefer to import people from other countries where woke is not the main issue, where education has been functioning properly. 

Perhaps our footie team, so woke, might try and educate not the footie-watching world while playing in the muslim country Qatar but make a start with all the ‘diverse’ communities here at home. Or is that too much to ask?

Well, let’s hear it for the footie god who punished the country which is always in the forefront of virtue signalling on the world stage, from green eco-terror to ‘respect’ for Alphabetarians, It couldn’t have happened to a more deserving nation!
