Churchill’s opinion of the current wannabe-Churchills besmirching his name
Collective madness gripped Westminster yesterday, infecting the newsrooms of the MSM. Therefore there’s only one issue occupying the front pages: yesterday’s visit of the Ukrainian PM and his begging speech to Parliament (link). Only the Star didn’t get ‘Teh Message’, going for the proposal of some MP to give a medal and an on-off payment to MPs when they lose their seat in a GE. It’s the only Zelensky-free front page of the lot.
As for the rest: there’s one phrase which clearly had all editors drooling: ‘wings of freedom’. This appears in one form or another in the headlines, in print or online. How the allegedly cynical, thick-skinned adults (he/she/it/they/whatevah) populating newsrooms and parliament can fall for such unashamed flattery, used to wring out yet more military hardware, is beyond belief.
Obviously, together with the MPs and lords listening to yon PM speechifying at Westminster Hall, they lapped up the reference to Churchill. Well, we know an erstwhile PM loved to see himself as Churchill’s second coming, so why not give yon Ukrainian PM the same accolade. After all, that’s why he ’admires’ the UK, provided we hand over more of our armaments. And lo and behold, he was also ‘inspired’ by Churchill, as the DT reports in one of their many articles on that visit:
“I sat in Churchill’s armchair and felt his bravery, says Volodymyr Zelensky – Ukrainian president speaks of how Second World War leader inspired his own resolve as he recalls 2020 visit to UK” (paywalled link)
I didn’t read further that that, thank you very much. All I’ll say is that it is regrettable that, sitting in Churchill’s chair in 2020, meant the Ukrainian PM felt ‘inspired’ to abandon his election promise to the Ukrainian people, of working for peace with Russia regarding the then separatist districts in the Donbass.
There’s worse though. In the early reports last evening there was a statement by our erstwhile PM who has become the driver of handing over our military hardware (my emphasis):
“Mr Johnson said in a statement: “It is time to give the Ukrainians the extra equipment they need to defeat Putin and to restore peace to Ukraine. That means longer range missiles and artillery. It means more tanks. It means planes. We have more than 100 Typhoon jets. We have more than 100 Challenger 2 tanks. The best single use for any of these items is to deploy them now for the protection of the Ukrainians – not least because that is how we guarantee our own long-term security.” (paywalled link)
What the fluff? Denuding our Armed Forces by handing over all we have, to go into the grinder that is the war in Ukraine ‘guarantees our security’? How can having no air cover make us secure when China and Russia could just send big balloons over our country and we won’t know a thing about it? The DM has a report describing what the Typhoons actually do – the ones BJ thinks we should just give away:
“The Typhoon is described by the RAF as a ‘highly capable and extremely agile multi-role combat aircraft’ that can be deployed for the ‘full spectrum of air operations’. This includes air policing as well as high-intensity conflict.” (link)
Yes, clearly, “we” don’t need those planes for “our” security and are happy to write them off when the Russian airforce targets them. Interestingly, the DM also reports a warning voice (my emphasis):
“Justin Bronk, senior research fellow for airpower at the RUSI think tank, said the RAF’s Typhoon force is ‘badly, badly overstretched already’ amid the demand for the planes to be sent to Ukraine. He has also questioned whether they would actually be suitable for the Ukraine conflict as they are not optimised for low altitude air-to-air conflict, and would struggle with short and rough airbases. Mr Bronk suggested any donation of Britain’s Typhoon planes would be ‘a largely symbolic gesture’. This would perhaps be made in the hope it persuades other nations such as the US or Sweden to provide more suitable F-18 or Gripen aircraft, he added.” (link)
How drunk does one have to be on that honeyed phrase: ‘wings of freedom’ to blithely indulge in gesture politics without saying one word about the costs, while at the same time there’s the ‘cost of living crisis’ which gets trotted out every time nurses or teachers are on strike and Hunt is being badgered to lower taxes!
While the Westminster denizens, politicians and news writers, were in a delirium of adoration yesterday there was one news item which made the rounds rapidly, as soon as it was online. It’s the report by the eminent Seymour Hersh, one of the very last true investigative journalists left. I linked to it yesterday in the comment posts. ICYMI here is the link again:
“How America Took Out The Nord Stream Pipeline – The New York Times called it a “mystery,” but the United States executed a covert sea operation that was kept secret—until now” (link)
I wondered if any paper would pick it up. Well, to my utter amazement the DM actually did – well down their online frontpage, but here it is, with maps and all, under the headline:
“Did Biden give the order to destroy Putin’s Nord Stream pipeline after Ukraine invasion? Bombshell report claims Navy divers carried out mission to kill Russia’s gas stranglehold on Europe in audacious mission overseen by president” (link)
That was brave of the DM – or are they simply catering to their readers? In their comment posts they are far less enthusiastic about our support for yon fight against Russia than the posh readers of the posh broadsheets.
I leave you with the link to today’s Matt Cartoon which pokes a sharp pencil into the bloated, self-congratulatory ‘hero’ adulation having gripped Westminster yesterday. This is how far we’ve come: blanket propaganda for going to war-by-proxy because some honeyed flattery about ‘wings of freedom’ while only a cartoonist is able to point out that these Westminster types are cloaking themselves with false ‘heroic’ feathers.
That’s all I’ve got for today. My esteem for the ‘heroes of Westminster’, in Parliament or the MSM, has now sunk so low that it’s coming out on the antipodean side of the globe. Sickening, isn’t it. Keep safe and have a good day.
Having looked in at ‘Farage at Large’ from Luton this evening on GB News, he had some crap guests on who seemed not to know what they were talking about. One chap who was commenting upon the car industry in Luton said in relation to the ULEZ Charge, that somebody ought to stand against Sadiq Khan for London Mayor on an anti ULEZ ticket, and stated he knew of somebody who would be available to do this. Thinking he was going to suggest Nigel Farage himself, this chap suggested instead Boris Johnson of all people. I mean really you couldn’t make it up. This chap obviously didn’t seem to understand that Johnson is a fully paid up member of the Net Zero green agenda, and probably all for measures making it as difficult as possible to get around London by car or anywhere else for that matter. Doesn’t anyone at GB News check the credentials of potential guests beforehand, it seems not. The programme was a total waste of time and not the first evening this week Farage has had guests on that have also been crap, which has resulted in me turning it off.
I have just read that today the MP’s in the House of Commons have agreed to pay themselves a salary increase of £2500.00 for the forthcoming year. The contempt these utter charlatans have for British citizens whom they are supposed to represent is utterly astounding, especially when they are denying people in other occupations a decent pay rise to keep up with inflation. Our political class are an utter disgrace, and a mass clear out is urgently needed. Not next year but right now. So sick and tired with them.
All this moron of a PM can do is borrow borrow borrow on the strength of our money. Perhaps thevidiot should learn to say NO, its more Consservative!
Our military has already been reduced to a point where one must question its ability to defend our own country. Reducing it still further by giving aircraft and other equipment to Zelensky will surely leave it unable to do that. It has been paid for and equipped at the expense of the British taxpayer and needs to be kept for our defence; let BoJo and his mates dig into their own pockets to finance their crazy (evil?) dreams.
Whilst accepting that Ukraine is at war with Russia, what leader of any country would visit another country hoping to be taken seriously and given more war material looking like absolute tramp. It is obvious to any rational bystander that Zelensky has no idea how to be a statesman at least by his dress code that is with no attempt to smarten himself up. I mean meeting our prime minister and addressing MP’s in Westminster Hall and going to Buckingham Palace to meet King Charles wearing cargo pants and crew necked sweatshirt is is unacceptable in my view and he should have had at least packed a formal shirt, a half decent pair of trousers and tie in his suitcase, that is if indeed he has a suitcase. On the strength of what we’ve seen perhaps he packs what belongings he has within a plastic Supermarket carrier bag and long with a tin of Tennents Super Strength. And Sunak, the twerp that he is, removes his tie trying to look cool on a joint visit to an Army barracks in Dorset. By the looks of this pair they could both do with a spot of drill square discipline by a Regimental Sergeant Major. How standards have dropped….
I know it is a cliche, but I really do feel as though I am living in a parallel universe and that no matter how hard I pinch myself I cannot wake up. How is it possible for so many to believe, as they really do seem to, so many illusions, false realities? Emperor’s new clothes much. Sycophants R Us.
Every way you look there is a curtain of unreality, like stage scenery, hiding what is really there and what it is really there for: Ukraine, climate, net zero, plandemics, jabs, food shortages, 15 minute cities, anti-business taxes, gender, critical race theory, hate and all the ‘isms’. No one seems able to see they are being played. The water is almost bubbling but still the frog has not noticed.
Did you know the EU has passed a draft law, to be become active in seven years, that will make it impossible to sell a property that does not meet stringent green criteria on insulation, heating, etc. So most will be unable to move or realise their assets. And the young buy a property? No chance. Seven years. That would be 2030. Oh yes Agenda 2030 you will own nothing… and Klaus and pals will be happy.
Yes Phil, there is not one subject that our dozy MP’s seem to understand. Our planes are not suitable for rough bumpy runways! We have no money in the coffers, the PM borrowed £300 Bn last year, so is borrowing to give away. Now include the scams of Wohan Flu and Net so called Zero all I can say is we are Fools for allowing it to continue – sleeping FOOLS
Diabolical disorientation.
The Fatima predictions are interesting and apparently offer a solution.
I just don’t get it. A punter who stole his clothes from a tramp racks up in Parliament and demands, this that and the next thing, worth thousands of millions of pounds and he is welcomed like a long lost brother.
With this country going down the tubes, maybe we should offer him a load of illegals to fight HIS war over the hills and far away. We have plenty, and ‘a la Putin’, offer to empty our prisons to become the tramp’s front line troops.
Good idea, I second that proposal??
Yes Michael D. I vote for Biscotte on that one too.
That’s where Nelsons navy got most of its sailors. Good organisations can transform the worst into usable.. Most of Adolf’s troops were other countries captured soldiers in another country. SO ?….. YES !…. It’s the British officers that would worry me. Only their god and their Civil Servants know what they’ld do.
TG Spokes, I don’t where you get your facts from, but in fact the majority of the Wehrmacht (German Army) during WW2 were in fact German nationals, as indeed the SS (Schutzstaffel) were as well. When the Germans invaded countries like the Netherlands, Norway, Belgium, Denmark, Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and France the SS set about recruiting nationals from those countries as well. They didn’t just take anybody as members of the SS had to be committed Nazis and fit a certain criteria. And in Ukraine, the Germans recruited Auxiliaries to staff Concentrations Camps etc. The Germans also recruited about 38 British nationals into the SS from POW camps, but were not utilised on the battlefield as far as I know. And your comment about British officers, I don’t know what you mean by that comment at all. Are you talking British Army officers in WW2?
Crackpot Parliament wants a war. What would Mark Steyn say?
Excellent report Viv!
Thanks, Jake
Viv- Bravo. Your report yesterday and today of the blowing up The Pipelines identifying the culprit (who would have guessed?), has exploded (ha!) across the web-waves. The biggies – Russia Today, sonar21 plus many, many others have reported it.
Maybe, just maybe it wasn’t Russia? The msm can run, but cannot hide from this. It is well and truly ‘out there’.
Biscotte 1.06pm. In what way has Russia imposed a stranglehold on Europe’s gas supply? After all if Europe produced enough of it’s own gas it would not be ‘forced’ to buy from Russia. Strikes me U.S.A. wants Europe to be forced to buy from them.
PB- I don’t think I alluded anywhere to ‘a stranglehold on Europe’s gas supply’. Culprit was mentioned.
You are of course dead right by following the money. LNG at up to five times more expensive than Russian gas, plus limited number of sea ports that can deal with it. Then decanting, gasification and similar. And all bought at elevated price from the pipeline vandals across the ocean – super.
Taking gas out of a country will increase the price of what is left in that country. But at up to five times the ‘normal cost’ . . . lodesamunny.
It was the conclusion that popped up after I heard about the pipeline damage.
One thing I don’t really follow is this. Three out of the four lines were destroyed over a couple of hundred yards each They are repairable, but until the rampaging of an ‘out of control’ nation is stopped, why would you? With one line remaining (as I understand), there is still the possibility of supply. Agreed much less gas than before, and no alternative pipeline when the pumping and so on equipment needs to be inspected or serviced – always assuming the Americans will allow spares and repairs to be carried out (can you believe?). Lucky ‘sur le continent’, this Winter has been the mildest, as the bbc would say – since records began. But it is still only February.
apropo to nothing in particular, but
msm – it was Russia wot dun it’; ‘Ukrain is outside the gates of Moscow’; ‘eeyurope is financially rich as creasus’; and on.
politicians – it will be in the manifesto ust like bliar’s manifesto – page 21 (right hand page) we (he) shall not introduce fees for university. Six weeks after the election.
Read this, this morning which made me think of the above:
African proverb says “He who swallow a coconut have great trust in his anus.”
Biscotte…….are you sure it wasn’t Hugh who came out with this proverb?
Dunno Colin, I’m not aware of . . or copyright – I saw it today and just thought it appropriate / funny.

These people are truly evil and the only way to stop them is clear; they must be locked up and silenced. However that will not happen until we can mobilise enough people rise up against them….
