The ancient Roman statesmen really knew their stuff: in order to keep in power, they provided the plebs with ‘panem et circenses’, bread and games – for free. Nothing has changed when we look at present-day Britain. ‘Bread’ is free for a large number of those living on bennies, and then there are the daily circus performances, lovingly detailed in our MSM.
How our mandarins and some politicians must rejoice for being left off the hook. Last week it was this ITV ‘presenter’ saga and this week is already off to a good start because ‘The Spare’ has had his first day in court, making a clown of himself: “Newspaper headlines: ‘Harry’s reality check’ and ‘new low’ for Russia” (link).
I applaud our western ‘journalists’ who know, for certain, how and by whom that dam was destroyed, based simply on unverified stuff coming out of that unhappy region. I only wish they’d be as diligent when looking into the daily trials and tribulations we peasants here in the UK are undergoing.
Being thoroughly dissatisfied with the way our and indeed European MSM are able to provide us with ‘news’ in unisono from yon war, today I’ll look instead at something which happened in France. This was reported in the German conservative paper ‘Die Welt’, under the headline “Why Macron is now talking about the collapse of civilization” (paywalled link, in German).
That is a bit apocalyptic – or is it? According to the report, M Macron had invited four eminent sociologists to ‘lunch and talk’ about the situation in France. Here’s the summary:
“In search of ways out of the crisis, France’s President Macron invited four well-known sociologists to lunch. It should remain strictly confidential. Then it came out: The scientists criticized Macron very sharply. On a dramatic point, however, everyone agreed.” (paywalled link, in German)
I apologise for the bad translation of the above and the following quotes – it seems AI isn’t all that good yet! Apparently, M Macron has form, having invited eminent professors of politology for lunch, to tell him about the state of affairs and what to do. They seem to have advised him to raise taxes, to the collective outcry of the nation. Aren’t we lucky that our government is making reassuring noises of lowering our exorbitant taxes – sometime before 2030 … and there will be jam tomorrow …
And thus M Macron asked four eminent French sociologists for their opinion on the state of French society, over a beautiful lunch ‘with asparagus and turbot’:
“The staff of the Elysée had planned a “déjeuner confidentiel” without any publicity, no photo of it should appear in “Paris Match”, no article about it in “Le Monde”, the participants had to hand over their smartphones before dinner. Four days after lunch, a report about the “confidential lunch” appeared on a whole page in “Le Monde”, which reads almost like a protocol with the abundance of literal quotes. Even more sharply than the economists, the sociologists criticised the government: “They have no idea what is happening in society,” was the conclusion of one participant.” (paywalled link, in German)
The French government is as removed from the real lives of their citizens as our Westminster cabal: how fascinating! In the following we read that M Macron blames the protests in France on his citizens on the “declining willingness of the French to make an effort, which shows a lack of civic responsibility.”
However, the sociologists point out that this process is due to his aim of creating an ‘ecological society’. We over here call this ‘Net Zero’. They suggest that Macron simply needs a ‘good narrative’ about climate change to get the compliance of the French. The next point worrying Macron is:
“[..] the loss of purchasing power of the middle classes, who are too rich to benefit from aid measures, and too poor to be able to lead a good life. Jérôme Fourquet agreed with him: Purchasing power has become the decisive status marker, the loss of purchasing power shows the increasing feeling of declassification in the consumer society.” (paywalled link, in German)
‘Lack of purchasing power’ – how on earth did that happen? Don’t answer – that’s a rhetorical question! How increasing taxation or a new ‘narrative’ will help; well, one needs to be a scientist living in ivory towers to explain that to us thick peasants.
Finally, Macron talks about the increasing aggression in French society, mentioning various local incidents. One of the professors agrees, coining a new expression:
“There are more and more violent conflicts, the refusal to follow orders from law enforcement forces such as police, paramedics and fire brigade is the order of the day. A “process of decivilization” has begun, Fourquet analyses, […]” (paywalled link, in German)
Macron utilises this expression, instructing his government to pursue all aggressive acts “in the face of this decivilization process” relentlessly”. Well, this pursuit must be easier than creating a ‘narrative’ aimed at getting people to accept their ‘loss of purchasing power’, never mind alleviating said loss.
I find it fascinating that M Macron, his eminent sociologists, pundits in Germany and of course our own British opinion makers and politicians are so utterly incapable of seeing the real problem: ‘Net Zero’, which even a shiny new ‘narrative’ won’t make more acceptable.
I find it equally fascinating that over there, in France and e.g. in Germany, the governing politicians are blaming their people for becoming ‘decivilised’. I don’t know how decivilised we Brits are because, what a surprise, our local ‘news’ never make it into the Westminster press: if it doesn’t happen in London, it’s not happening.
I find it even more fascinating to observe how our eminent politicians and mandarins are as blind to the cause of this nation’s malaise – Net Zero – as the equally eminent politicians across the Channel and that they are equally bereft of a solution. I can help: just scrap Net Zero!
That’s all I have for today. It must be the French culture where talking points are debated over lunch in the Elysee Palace. Here, we have ‘Teh Spare’ to talk about, but no lunch in No 10 … Have a good day.
Are you there Charles 3, it’s me Thomas.
TG Spokes…you missed a bit…..’The Tank Engine’
So the plebs are “causing de-civilisation “. The US blows up the Nord Stream pipeline and nobody bats an eyelid. The UN/Ukraine/uncle Tom cobbly and all blow up a dam (it woz the Russians of course) and WE are causing de-civilisation! A handful of snipers should do it. I unfortunately caught a snippet of Jeremy Vine this morning according to reports it is not known who blew up the dam and the Russians have denied it but according to everyone on his programme it was definitely the Russians wot done it. World war three here we come.

The German Situation: Citizens No Longer Scared Of Lefty Labels. Tuesday 6th June 2023
Today I see this
Watchdog suggests banning one of Germany’s leading parties.
Can you guess which one!
https://www.rt.com/news/577651-germany-watchdog-suggests-ban-party/
Of course I can guess – don’t even need three guesses: the AfD. I regard this as an excellent attempt at deflection: the AfD is rising in the polls, let’s try and get them banned. I would not want to predict what would happened next – and not only in the former communist Bundeslaender where the AfD could well take local government places given that they may achieve majorities.
All part of the destruction of Western civilisation. Here Neil McCoy-Ward talks about the latest insanity that will destroy the West. Climate reparations from the West to the third world – India, Pakistan etc – to the tune of trillions of dollars and we’ll have to pay for it from our taxes, this is breaking news that will destroy our countries. I can’t see Sunak putting a stop to this, indeed he’s an Indian, he’s probably going to get a commission.
“BREAKING! THIS IS ABSOLUTELY INSANE! (Climate Reparations & 200,000 Cows To Be Culled In Ireland!)”
I have written an IOU on toilet paper, go wipe your BTM with it for that is all your getting from me.
Sunak can give some of his packet as they are going to get FA from me!
Collapse of western civilisation. At least there seems to be some evidence that some European nations are fighting back against their establishment parties. Unfortunately, the British people (even the majority of those who claim to be on the centre Right) have chosen to remain in snooze mode.
The German centre Right AFD party are somewhere about 19% in the polls and already have a real presence in the Bundestag (78 Seats). In fact, all over Europe we are seeing centre Right parties making headway in the polls and in some cases replacing Leftist governments (Italy).

Viv, that pic of a bit of rag – blue to the mast, red to the last. Someone told me it was the regime that our ‘all powerful Great British army’ now swears allegience to. Y/No?
What is this ‘all powerful British Army whereof you speak? And never mind swearing allegiance …
Decivilisation is happening across Western societies but in slightly different ways according to national character. One constant appears to be the increasingly violent behaviour of the state. Remember Catalonia’s bid for independence and the shocking violence from the police used on ordinary citizens who were protesting non-violently? Remember the violence from French cops during the Gilets Jaunes protests? People lost eyes, limbs and a few were killed. For Macron and other leaders to lament increasing aggression in society is ironic indeed.
Net Zero is akin to the Virgin Mary. Her goodness is a given and beyond debate. Getting net zero out of government mind sets looks as likely as getting the Pope to turn on the Virgin Mary. And so ‘decivilisation’ will continue. Where it ends up is uncertain still but it won’t be anywhere we want to go.
SY- Just finished watching Tucker Carlson’s first comeback / twitter(?) programme.
It has nothing to do with your topic, but well makes the same point.
Its true cos we say its true. Repeat until everyone believes it. Then build on the lie. Hook, line and sinker. (Liked your Virgin Mary comment – how true).
Similarly, don’t publish anything that might detract from – look outside! a hang glider- ‘news’.
Putin is a bad madman, Churchillian Elensky is a Saint, Trumpski is the return of the commie Anti-Christ / Bidet our dynamic Saviour, uSA and NATO combined are destroying Poccia on the battlefield and also ruining them financially / Mccan girl seen in (insert any location), Steven Lorence, Prince wota-wasta, burning tower blocks to eu specs. Oh sorry didn’t mean to tell the truth about the tower blocks full of immigrants.
And all that from occassional msm glimses. . Tucker worth a look.
“…getting the Pope to turn on the Virgin Mary.” I would not put it past the current Pope to do just that! A standing joke about Francis is “Is the pope a Catholic?” meaning he isn’t. He appears to be a useful idiot serving the Deep Church (like the Deep State in politics) which is hollowing out, secularising and protestantising the Catholic Church, thus making it redundant. Many people will welcome that, but maybe they should be careful what they wish for?
“… the governing politicians are blaming their people for becoming ‘decivilised’…
That’s rich: most Government policies, string pulled by the Great Resetters, are designed to destroy our civilisation and our prosperity (net Zero, mass invasion, schoolchildren indoctrinated with filth and propaganda etc etc), But isnt that just typical of how politicians speak: they deny with their lips what they’re doing with their hands, and add insult to injury by shifting the blame on to the the people..
Mary – given that our politicians are a bunch of wan*ers, I think that we know what they do with their hands. Our politicians are so stupid that they probably spend most of their time wondering why they have two hands and only one dick. I don’t really want to know what they do with their lips.
Hee hee. The mind boggles !
I’m fed up of news about the spoilt royal brat already…but I guess it is another useful diversion for those in government.
It was said on GB News yesterday by several commentators, Nigel Farage and Jacob Rees-Mogg included, that Harry didn’t land a glove on the Daily Mirror yesterday, and did not appear to be on top of his brief when giving evidence. It is thought if the other days go bad as yesterday he will lose the case and will have to stump up damages and costs running millions of pounds. At the end of the day who is interested in this utter charade, apart from the news channels. It saves them having to report proper news. The whole spectacle is sleep inducing in the extreme, and should be served up as a cure for Insomnia.
